• Tourism in India is the largest service industry, with a
contribution of 6.23% to the national GDP and 8.78%
of the total employment in India.
• Top states in India to receive inbound and domestic

4. Kerala – God’s own country
• Kerala, an Indian state is located on the Malabar coast of
south-west India.
• Formed on 1 November 1956 by the States Reorganisation
Act by combining various Malayalam-speaking regions.
• Thiruvanathapuram is it’s capital.
• The state has an area of 38,863 km2 with a population of
3.33 Crore and is bordered by Karnataka to the north and
north-east, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and
the Arabian Sea to the west.

• Until the early 1980s, Kerala was a relatively
unknown destination.
• In 1986 tourism gained an industry status in Kerala.
• Aggressive marketing campaigns launched by
the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC).
• In 2000, with an objective to promote tourism, The
Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) was launched and was
registered as a society.

8. • Kerala was the first state to set up KTM as
permanent organization to promote the tourism
attractions worldwide.
• Kerala Tourism launched a 360 degree brand-building

• Along with print and TV advertisements it also used
below-the-line promotions to build its brand and
