Touchscreens allow direct interaction with displays through touch. They contain a touch sensor panel, controller, and driver software. Touching the sensor causes a voltage change detected by the controller. Main types are resistive, capacitive, surface acoustic wave, and infrared. Applications include public displays, self-service kiosks, and devices. Advantages are direct selection and not needing keyboards, while disadvantages include lower precision with fingers and needing to be close to the screen. Touchscreens are widely used due to being user-friendly and replacing mouse and keyboard.
