This paper introduces a programming course which provides second year mechanical engineering students the opportunity to develop engineering-oriented software and Graphical User Interface (GUI) using the principles of software engineering. Two object-oriented languages, C# and MATLAB) were taught in this course to make the students familiar with different types of programming languages. Methods used in teaching this course such as topics, class/laboratory schedule, and evaluation instruments are explained. The course objectives were well met according to the student learning outcomes and several Mechanical Engineering B.Sc. program objectives were also supported by this course. This course was taught by the author at University of Louisville and will be offered in University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Development of Computer Aided Learning Software for Use in Electric Circuit A...
Presently, instructors are required to teach more students with the same resources, thereby reducing the amount of time instructors have with their students. Because of this, examples may be omitted to be able to make it through all of the required material. This can be problematic with electric circuit analysis courses and other courses used as prerequisites. A lack of understanding in these classes will likely continue in future classes. While software is often used in these classes, often it is analysis software not meant to teach concepts. Teaching software does exist, but may have only a preset number of problems or only provide the solution. Others provide a ‘limitless’ number of problems by changing component values, but each ends up being the same basic problem. This paper introduces new learning software that addresses these shortcomings. The software provides a practically limitless number of problems by varying component values and circuit structure. Moreover, it provides both an answer and an explanation. Finally, it is designed so that students who need more help can get it, while those who do not can move on.

Mathematical models play a fundamental role in many scientific and en- gineering fields in today’s world. They are used for example in geotechnics to evalute the hillslope stability, in weather science to predict weather trends and produce weather reports, in structural design to study the resistance to stress, and in fluid dynamics to compute fluid flows and air flows.
Consequently mathematical models are evolving all the time: more and more new numerical methods are being invented to solve the Partial Dif- ferential Equations (PDE)s that describe physical problems with increasing precision, and more and more complex and efficient processor units are being created to reduce the computational time.
Therefore, the code into which the mathematical models are translated has to be “dynamic” in order to be easily updated on the basis of the con- tinuous developments (Formetta et al. (2014) [16]).
On the other hand, completely different physical problems are often de- scribed using similar PDEs. For this reason, the numerical methods which provide solutions to different problems can be the same. This suggest the implementation of an IT infrastructure that hosts a standard structure for solving PDEs and that can serve various disciplines with the minimum of hassles.
This work is focused on the application of what is envisioned above, with the main purpose of the creation of an abstract code for implementing every type of mathematical model described by PDEs.
We work on hydrological topics but we hope to design a structure of general interest. Obviously the final goal of any work of this type is to find a proper numerical solver, and therefore, part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of the problem under scrutiny, and the description of the solution found.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
