This document describes the author's journey to overcome shyness through literacy. As a baby and child, the author was very shy and uncomfortable around others besides their mother. In elementary school, the author had few friends due to shyness. This social difficulty continued through junior high. However, in sophomore year of high school, the author had a breakthrough. For an assignment in Mrs. Nelson's class, the author gave an oral autobiography presentation, which was very challenging but a success. While this one presentation did not immediately cure the author's shyness, it started them on a path of becoming more open and social through classroom participation and assignments.
