- 1. TEXTUAL ANALYSIS (TOBY CARVERY “HOME OF THE ROAST”) • Radio Advertisement (30secs)
- 2. Target audience: 30-60+ year olds - old enough to have families, offering them a delicious meal at ‘Toby Carvery’. Appealing C1-D income bracket – having a casual/not- so-expensive meal (nature of advert). Both female and male voiceovers heard (of range of ages; older and adult); sound different from each other - showing of their own personalities and variety of voiceovers appeal a wider range of target listeners. The main male voiceover is heard near the end of the advert (16 seconds), giving the details and contact (website) of ‘Toby Carvery’ – sounds more refined/sophisticated than the other voiceovers, due to giving necessary information about the place. The voiceovers (except for main male voiceover) have more of a Northern accent (don’t have Southern, sophisticated accent) – connotes and relates with the nature of the advert.
- 3. Always directly addressing the listeners – using positive adjectives to describe the tastiness of their roast dinner served at ‘Toby Carvery’ (e.g. “suttle and tender”, “smothered in gravy”). Music Bed: Non-diegetic Instrumental score (primarily melodic piano solo) played constantly throughout advert, whilst voiceovers speaking overtop – connote the constant positive atmosphere audience will experience if they dine at ‘Toby Carvery’. Main voiceover states only one form of contact; the website – which is conventional for a radio advert to include and a way to end the advert; for listeners to access further information. Voiceovers indicate why you should eat there and what the meal includes (e.g. “surrounded by veg”) – they all sound enthusiastic and positive, and use slightly colloquial/informative language (in causal/relaxed tone).
