To A Mouse Essay
Romantic poetry demonstrates a focus on nature and simplicity by displaying everyday life through
the use of everyday language. "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns displays the common motif found in
poetry at the time; the unity of man and nature. Poets of the Romantic time period believe that all of
nature, even the smallest parts, is connected. "To a Mouse" portrays the use of iambic tetrameter and
structural organization by using sequence of events with the main idea expressed in the last two
stanzas. This poem displays the equality of man and nature, simplifies situations, and illustrates the
natural instinct of living things to survive. A universal thought presented by romantic poets is the
belief that man conflicts with the natural course of

Mrs. Molnar's To A Mouse
Dreams often just bring grief and pain and not the expected joy that we hope for. In the teacher's
summary of "To a Mouse", Mrs.Molnar wrote, "mouse is shivering and terrified...And now her little
winter house is all in a ruin. He imagines the mouse planning ahead carefully for the winter–she
worked so hard to make her nice little nest, and then, BOOM". The mouse had a dream to live in its
winter house, keep comfortable, so the mouse planned out everything to strive for the dream.
However, the man came and destroyed the house that was all part of the mouse's dream, now it only
leaves so much pain and grief that the mouse is shivering so much and the promised happiness had
been broken. Then in the poem, "To a Mouse" the mouse is written about

Mouse Forestomach Essay
ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION
The stomach is a part of the muscular sac and characteristic curves of the proximal digestive tract1
that has an evolutionarily diverse structure and plenty of functions including food digestion,
hormonal regulation of metabolic homeostasis, and immune regulation1–3. In mouse, the stomach
contains three main parts: forestomach, corpus and antrum1,4–6 and its ontogeny starts around
embryonic day 9.5 (E9.5)7. The stomach is protruding and visible at E10.5 and then enlarges7,8.
Around E12.5, it migrates to the left side of body and a day later the forestomach starts to develop a
stratified squamous epithelium while the glandular stomach begins to develop simple columnar
epithelium8,9. The glandular stomach differentiates into smooth muscle and muscle layer thickens
at E14.5 and different type cells become mature1,7,10. Currently, most studies on mouse stomach
development are on a certain protein or signal. Sox21, Barx111 and Hoxa5 12, FGF signal1,3,4,
BMP signal13 and SHH pathway14 take part in the process of mouse stomach development
together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introduction
Nowadays, mouse has become an important part of the interaction between human and computer.
I've use a mouse since when I was still a kid for playing the computer games. But before I enter to
the Business Information Technology lecture and tutorial class, the word "mouse" for me is only a
thing that can connect to computer and let us to function the computer screen easily. I have no idea
with who was invented a mouse, and the others information about mouse. I think many people have
the same thought with me about to know more about mouse and what does it can be used for.
What Is Mouse
Mouse is also a device that can fit in everyone's hand palm with comfortably. (Shelly et al. 2005)
The idea of the called of "mouse" is derived from the shape of it, because mouse looks like the
animal mouse, and the wire that connect with it also can be imagine as the tail of the mouse.
Computer mouse can be rolled across a flat surface. Computer user can use the mouse to function
the computer by pressing the button on the mouse to perform the required activities and tasks on the
computer. Mouse is a good helper that helps people to do task on the computer with flexible and it

To A Mouse Allusion
Human beings and animals are both equal because we breathe the same air, walk the same land, and
whether you're an animal or a man your plans are prone to be thrown of track. In the short classic
novel Of Mice and Men the author John Steinbeck tells the story of two friends, Lennie Small and
George Milton. They are migrant ranch workers who move around California in search of jobs in
order to achieve their dream. Their dream is to own their own piece of land. Yet due to Lennie's
disability, he gets into big trouble and their dream is demolished. George is a smart man who is
Lennie's guardian and best friend. Lennie is a very strong man but he has an unknown mental
disability. Lennie has the urge to feel soft objects but anytime he does they die. Due to this
Steinbeck brilliantly foreshadows the death of Lennie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of Mice and Men is an allusion, To a Mouse a poem by Robert Burns. An allusion is a figure of
speech, which is meant to refer someone to another piece of literature and borrow from their ideas.
To a Mouse is a poem about the speaker accidently turning over the mouse's nest which the mouse
had prepared in order to survive the winter. Much like humans "the best laid schemes of mice and
men," will go "askew" and we will be left to wonder on our own (Burns 4). Therefore the title itself
indicates that the character's plans will not go as planned and will end

room from the animal facility and allowed to acclimate for 15 minutes prior testing. During
acclimation, the stainless steel EPM was set up for the experiment. The EPM consisted of two
opposing open arms (35X5 cm) and two close arms (35X5X15 cm) with a center platform (5X5cm)

LH Mouse Model
Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models
Abstract:
Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation
of the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the
ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER)– a nuclear receptor. Estrogen
plays an important role in the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on
gonadotropin–releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a
cyclic reversal of estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and
pituitary levels. This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces
the massive surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only
secreted during this surge– it is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on
the implications on LH pulsatility by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries.
Introduction:
In both the male and female, the coordinated actions of hormones from the hypothalamus, anterior
pituitary, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Estrogen has a bimodal effect on the hypothalamus with both inhibitory and stimulatory influences
on GnRH secretion. The stimulatory effect of estrogen is seen at the end of the follicular phase
where estrogen triggers the preovulatory GnRH surge. The ability of estrogen to induce a surge
declines with age in female rodents and women. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in
estrogen induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on
GnRH secretion and GnRH gene expression has been show in in in vivo studies indicating that
estrogen inhibits GnRH pulse amplitude in the early follicular and luteal phase of the

Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse
Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them suggested we hide it
in Mrs Pratchett's jars of sweets. I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did
so, I made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face
risky consequences. Once we reached there, I've started planning my own mouse plot by tricking my
friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn't. We barged in the sweet shop,
and we saw Mrs Pratchett's dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop
like a pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the
mouse in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won't be expecting any
tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my
plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while.
She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had
to clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately
flushing the mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what
was going on. It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there
wasn't , my plan could have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse's germs off
my hands (the water there wasn't very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was
starting to get a jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can't
really call it a mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come
inside, and they all have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I
was chuckling quietly to see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I
whispered to Thwaites that the mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I
even pulled out a few bucks to emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn't find any
trace of mouse in there. Confused, Thwaites asked her to keep

To A Mouse Literary Devices
The poem from this week's module that most appealed to me was "To A Mouse" by Robert Burns.
While the prospect of the poem is quite simple, consisting of a sympathetic farmer who seeks to
comfort a mouse that he's unwittingly left homeless, there is a lot more to the poem than it may
seem at first. From the author's background to the philosophical ideas introduced or the literary
devices used, "To A Mouse" is a fascinating introduction to the subject of Scottish literature. The
aspect of the poem that most affected me was the humble nature of Burns as a person, portrayed via
the actions of the character featured within. The farmer spends the poem profusely apologizing and
comparing himself to a lowly mouse, as if they were equals. In ... Show more content on

After lamenting the ruined plight of the mouse and apologizing on behalf of all mankind, the farmer
delivers an ingenious line with profound implications for all forms of hierarchy. The famous quote,
"The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men / Gang aft agley" (Burns 39–40), expresses that anybody
can fail regardless of their social or ethnic background. Burns spends the entire poem up to this
point expressing a humble sympathy for the mouse, but it is with this line that he finally presents the
reason behind his ideas. It is with this quote that Burns places all mortals on an equal plane, as they
can all suffer from the misery of ruined plans. While the farmer expressed such a thought for the
purpose of comforting the mouse, Burns likely had a much deeper purpose for his words. Given the
logic behind these words, men are equal to mice and the rich are equal to the poor because none are
safe from disaster. Any plan made is prone to failure, and in this sense all are equal. This is a
surprisingly thought provoking idea given the narrative context of the poem, and is likely the reason
why the poem continues to be studied and debated today and remains a standard against which other
works are

Essay on To a Mouse
In the poems Robert Burns' "To a Mouse" and "The Mouse's Petition" by Anna Letitia Barbauld,
many feelings and emotions about mice are brought forth. While both poems were written by
different authors, many of the feelings they share towards mice are common. The analysis of the two
poems will help to find the comparisons and differences in theme, political and social issues,
diction, and tone. Examples from the poems will help to show the similarities and differences in the
two.
The tone of each poet in the poems, many similarities become evident. Both poets portray a sad and
guilty tone when talking about mice. When Barbauld begins to write about what she believes the
mouse is feeling inside of the test cage, the reader gets an idea how ... Show more content on

Anna writes through poem that this act is unjust and should not happen to such a creature. Through
the use of the poem she tries to tell the scientist "Beware, lest in the worm you crush, a brother's
soul you find." (Barbauld, l.35–36) Barbauld relates that killing a mouse is not morally different
from taking the life of a fellow man. The poems theme is effective and pushes the reader to feel
sorrow for the poor mouse. In "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns, the ongoing themes are guilt and fear.
Burns knows what mice are up to, stealing his food from his crops and ruining his walls within his
home to make homes of their own. Burns however, does not care because he himself feels guilty for
the little mice. Burns feels like even though they may be a nuisance to some humans, the mice have
no choice but to do these things to live to see another day. "I doubt na, whiles, but thou may thieve;
What then? Poor beastie, thou maun live!" (Burns l.13–14) Burns explains why he is not bothered
that the mice steal his food. Burns also has the theme of fear in his poem. The mice fear men, and
for good reason, Burns is aware of this and makes minimal effort to scare the mice while they are at
work. "An' justifies that ill opinion which makes thee startle," (Burns, l.9–10) Burns discusses how
the fear mice have for men is due to the brutes who have no patience to understand what the mice go
through. While the two poems have different themes, one

THE CAT AND MOUSE GAME By: John Charles Roth So there was this cat in Chicago back in
1872 and this mouse and the mouse was a jerk and they kept battling. So naturally, the cat found a
wife and the mouse found a husband and more animals came and they formed the cat and mouse
gangs. And the gangs were both democracies. The cat and mouse who formed the gangs got elected.
They weren't really "gangs" they were more of battling societies so they both replaced the gang with
society. So they kept fighting. The everlasting war was a seesaw battle. The cats were winning. The
mice were winning. So we're gonna focus on a very important year for both societies. 1987. NO

particularly it would be a great simulant of discussion for the students, they can explore the different

I may ask if anyone had ever eaten to much candy or if anyone had tripped over something. Once
the students share their answers I will then ask them what happened once they ate to much candy or
once they tripped over something. Once everyone is done sharing I will introduce the topic of cause
and effect and explain to them using the previous examples what cause and effect is. For example,
when the students ate to much candy they got a tummy ache, the cause of the tummy ache was
eating too much candy and the effect of eating too much candy was a tummy ache, I will do the
same thing and use the example of tripping over something. Once they have a pretty good
understanding of the concept I will read the book to them. Once I am done reading the book the
students and I will go back through it and figure out all of the examples of cause and effect
throughout the book. For example, in the book it reads "If you take a mouse to school, he'll ask you
for your lunch box. When you give him your lunchbox, he'll want a sandwich and a snack for later."
After reading this the students and I would discuss that the cause of the mouse wanting the lunch
box was because he was going to school and because he was given a lunch box he wanted to fill it
with food for later and that was the effect the mouse receiving the lunch box. Once the students
understand this concept pretty well, they will break into groups of two and create a short story of
cause and effect using any animal they want. Just a couple sentences of using cause and effect so
that the teacher can check for their understanding. Having them create their own story will help
them to use their imagination, writing skills, and help them to work with a

To A Mouse, By Robert Burns
The poem "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns shows how man has become exalted above other living
creatures. The poem was written in the 1700s in Scotland and has a mood of friendly compassion in
the Scottish Dialect which it's written in. The major theme embedded throughout the poem is
hierarchy in nature, which is where creatures are separated based on their intelligence and strength
to survive.
The first difference that separates the mouse and the man is their strength to survive. The man
discovers the mouse stealing corn from him because he can't find food to survive the brutal winter.
Because of this line: "I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve" (Burns 13), it shows the man is the
strongest and most intelligent character because he realizes ... Show more content on

When things aren't equal or they are condensed into a hierarchy; it creates oppression, violence,
hatred and suffering in our society. This is found in the quote: "I'm truly sorry man's dominion, Has
broken nature's social union" (Burns 7–8). A real world example is the way America's meat industry
treats animals cruelly by not giving them a proper life before we use them as food, we should care
for them more and treat them as a gift and our equal.
The last stanzas explain the downside for the man being on top of the hierarchy of nature. It reads:
"Still thou art blest, compar'd wi' me/ The present only toucheth thee" (Burns 43–44). The mouse is
blessed compared with the man because the present only touches it and it doesn't have the capability
to worry or fear from the past or future. The themes in "To a Mouse" developed throughout the
poem to show all aspects of the hierarchy of nature: the struggles of the weak, the downside of the
strong and the way these two aspects balance the hierarchy of

Robert Burns in his poem, "To a Mouse," depicts the setting of a disastrous house that belongs to a
mouse after a man plowing a broad field, plows over it. Burns starts the poem off in a remorseful,
but comical tone while reminding the mouse to not show her fear towards the speaker since he
doesn't intend of chasing her. The speaker is apologetic as he says "a man's dominion / Has broken
Nature's social union," and then goes on to prove himself as someone who is just like the mouse.
The speaker proclaims that he is "An' fellow–mortal." The speaker's tone turns more mature as he

The Lion And The Mouse Analysis
A famous person once said "Judging a person doesn't define who they are. It defines who YOU are."
Don't judge someone by how they look comes out in both of the stories "The Lion and the Mouse"
by Rob John and "Wonder" by R.J Palacio. Both of the stories have characters that are different
from others. Both of the characters get judged, but are very helpful in the end. Never judge someone
by their looks is very important in "The Lion and the Mouse." In the beginning, the lion new he was
big and strong and the mouse was little and weak. So, he thought he would eat the mouse just
because of that, he never even new the mouse. The lion overlooked the mouse and didn't get to
know him. In the middle, the lion said "You? How could a tiny mouse help a huge lion like me..?"
The lion judged the mouse and thought that because the mouse was small he couldn't do anything.
No matter what your size you can always be helpful in some way. Towards the end, even the though
the lion thought the little mouse was worthless, he actually saved his life when he chewed through a

a seemingly simple mouse, who hears what others do not. He dares to question what is out of the

him to new ideas. When he has his experience at the river, he is given a new name, which signifies

complete: an eye of a mouse. Now it doesn't take long for Jumping Mouse to decide what to do. He
doesn't want the buffalo to die so he gives up half of his gift of sight by letting the buffalo have an

continued on with his journey. After he parts with the buffalo, Jumping Mouse meets with a gray
wolf that for some reason cannot remember the simplest of things. But being the kind mouse that he

of his problems. Now completely giving up his gift of sight is a very difficult thing to ever want to

Summary Of The Poem To A Mouse
In the poem "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns, the little mouse plans to build a home but gets
destroyed by the farmer with the plow. Similarly, in the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck,
George, and Lennie's dream of owning a farm gets destroyed by Curley. In the poem "To a Mouse"
by Burns, the speaker writes an apology to the mouse for the way it gets treated by humans. The
speaker describes the mouse as a "sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast" that is running away from
humans. He tells the mouse that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse, "why
dash away, so quick, so rash, in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you". The
speaker means no harm but the mouse's first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he
expects to get chased by humans. The speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes
stealing food. The narrator says "I have no doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You too

dreams and plans can be destroyed by something or someone.

Mouse Genotyping
Thus, after some time our strains bred and we recollected pregnant females. They were then
euthanized and we obtained all the embryos at the age of E12.5 and E18.5.
At this step embryo genotyping is required to identify each member of the litter in order to be able
to make future experiments. Mouse genotyping is the process of determining if they express or not a
specific gene. The purpose of this procedure in our case was to obtain purified DNA, amplify Cre
and Fog1 genes by PCR and run an agarose gel to see if the mouse expressed them or not. Control
embryos (littermates of Fog1cKO mutants) were then Cre negative and heterozygous or wild–type
for the flox alleles and displayed a similar phenotype to wild–type (ICR background) mice. In
contrast, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We took all whole embryo at E12.5 and just the brain for those at late stages (E18.5). During the
dissection, the tail of each mouse was taken in a single Eppendorf for carrying out the genotyping.
Tails were disintegrated with proteinase K treatment (1mg/ml) and put at +56ºC overnight. Next
day, a PCR was performed with the tail preps (see Protocol 1) and we checked PCR products
running a 2% agarose gel (see Protocol 2).
2. Tissue preparation: paraffin sections
The aim of this technique is to embed tissue into wax. Embedding tissue into paraffin blocks
supports the tissue structure and enables to cut very thin sections and mount them onto microscope
slides for posterior staining and analysis. I prepared tissue on paraffin sections for staining. This
technique is divided in different steps, most of them made automatically by a machine:
A. Fixation
Chemical fixatives are used to maintain the structural integrity of the cell and to preserve tissue from
degradation. Their main function is to cross–link proteins irreversibly and act as a bacterial killer. In
our case, embryos (E12.5) or embryonic brains were fixed in 4% PFA in 1xPBS (see Buffers and
Solutions) at +4ºC for 1–4 days. We put the embryos in cassettes ordered by numbers. Those
samples will be used for the final project

To A Mouse Analysis
"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men, gang aft agley." Robert Burns states this in his famous poem
To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first,
but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George
who are migrant workers in the 1930's during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch
with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority
of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care
of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple–minded, as he is a little
mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the
mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their
own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of
George and Lennie's dream that inspired the novel's title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert
Burns' poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we
can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George
includes when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

To A Mouse, By Robert Burns
Well, it seems to me that the big theme that Robert Burns is trying to get across in his poem "To a
Mouse", is that learning to live in the moment is an important part in achieving happiness . He starts
showing this theme by talking to the mouse about how he doesn't want to hurt it, but wants to help
it. He feels bad that mice and other animals have learned to flee when encountered by people in fear
of being killed. Burns shows his concern for how humans believe they are the smarter and better
than other life forms when he writes, "...truly sorry man's dominion has broken nature's social
union...". I assume that Burns is trying to say that he and the mouse are equals and that humans
should realize that everything living has an equal amount of potential. He then goes on to talk about
how the mouse is actually the lucky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of the poem, I understand why Burns was writing about the two smaller themes. He was
tying together the theme of "knowledge does not always bring happiness" by mentioning how
mankind seems to dominate everything and that he is happy that the mouse lives in the present and
is not stressed out. Burns used these as examples because he is explaining to the mouse that the
reason humans control everything is because they get anxious over the future by their past memories
of failure. He keeps saying how mice are just as equal as humans in life because mice don't go
through those stresses in life and they help keep the ones who do, sane. Another example of this
theme is with George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. George represents the humans because he is
in charge of making sure Lennie and himself stay alive and get jobs. Lennie plays the role of the
mouse because he keeps their dream of living on their own land alive in both Lennie and George's
mind. George needs Lennie to keep him happy and motivated and Lennier needs George to keep
him alive and out of

Mouse Plagues In Australia
The first article chosen to review is 'Population dynamics of house mice in Queensland grain–
growing areas, 2013, Wildlife Research, 40, 661–674 by Anthony Pople, Joe Scanlan, Peter
Cremasco, and Julianne Farrell'. This article focuses on the population field mice in the Darling
Downs. This region of Australia is an extremely arable district in south eastern Queensland that has
lost the majority of its native vegetation cover to agriculture (Fensham and Fairfax, 1997). The
theme of this ecological topic demonstrates how a population of a species can increase due to the
availability of food, and the methods to reduce numbers via poison baiting.
The article aims to answer whether it is possible to predict mouse plagues in grain crops in
Queensland. Plagues of house mice begin to damage cereal crops immediately after sowing (Mutze
and Hubbard, 2000), which can cause stunting and reduced plant growth. Forecasting plagues will
allow the mice to be proactively controlled by poison baiting, resulting in higher crop yield. It is
hypothesized that a prediction of these plagues, followed by poison baiting, will result in much
fewer numbers of field mice left to consume crops. Relating back to the main question, this
demonstrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since 1974, mice have been regularly trapped at sites within the Darling Downs, which shows the
population variation over time. Factors such as crop size and location, native forest clearing, rainfall,
and temperature have all contributed to the impact of mice numbers. Comparing these numbers with
other locations in Queensland will show a comparison of population fluctuations, which will enable
a prediction method to be created. This is an important study as it highlights the need to reduce mice
numbers to in turn decrease rodent inflicted yield loss, damage to buildings and machinery, health
risks, and rodent infested areas (Jacob et al.,

To A Mouse, By John Steinbeck
"One of the generalities most often noted about Americans is that we are a restless, a dissatisfied, a
searching people,"(Steinbeck America & Americans) John Steinbeck stated this when discussing the
topic of the American dream. He believes that numerous Americans are chasing after a dream that is
nearly impossible to reach. John Steinbeck expresses his belief on the American dream through a
general negative attitude toward the American dream and the failed dreams of his characters.
The book shares the same negative views about dreams with the poem "To a Mouse", by Robert
Burns. The poem tells the story of a mouse who has planned for survival through the winter, but his
plans were ruined by a farmer who was plowing his field leaving the mouse frightened and fearing
for the future. The seventh stanza includes these lines "The best laid schemes of mice and men, go
oft astray, and leave us nought but grief and pain to rend our day" (Burns "To a Mouse"). This quote
illustrates the fact that both the plans of mice and men will fail leaving them unhappy. The author
Robert burns shows in "To a Mouse" his negative opinion directed towards achieving dreams.
Steinbeck shares the same negative opinions about the dream in his essay, "America & Americans:
Is the American dream even possible?", he shows a general negative attitude towards the topic of the
American dream. In this essay, he states his opinion on the unachievable American dream which is

Transgenic Mouse Model
What is the major problem being addressed by this study?
This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic
incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete
PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus– where TLE
forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes
mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron
reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE.
What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them?
In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and
temporal lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post–stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other
intrinsic and extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the
ratio of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. To answer these
questions, we will use a transgenic mouse model and neuroimaging techniques to reconstruct the
abnormal neurons and then analyze them using neuron tracing software. Additionally, we will use a
transgenic mouse combined with advanced tracing techniques to trace abnormal cell inputs. ... Show

the pathology of PTEN Knockout cells is a primary driver for TLE or merely a secondary change

changes that occur within a genetic model of an epileptic animal. This will ultimately help delineate
mechanisms by which temporal lobe epilepsy develops. This will guide creating treatment and

Summary Of To A Mouse And To A Mouse
In 1786, Robert Burns published his first line of poetry "Poems: Chiefly in Scottish Dialect" which
made him well–known with the poems of "To a Mouse", and "To a Louse". His techniques included
writing six lines for each stanza. The rhyme scheme to these lines consist of AAABA giving the
first, second, third, and fifth lines four pairs of stressed and unstressed syllables. What I mean by if
you stress the first syllable, the subject will be totally different than an unstressed subject. In his
poetry, the fourth and sixth lines are different from the other lines. These two lines consist of two
pairs of stressed and unstressed syllables which is similar to a limerick or a ballad. This essay will
be a compare and contrast of his two poems To a Mouse, and To a Louse and a breakdown of these
stanzas. In Burns's poem of "To a Mouse", his first stanza is talking about the destruction of a
mouse's nest as the character is doing his winter plowing. As he addresses the mouse he is
reassuring the mouse there is no harm intended. It moves onto him, saying nature has been
destroyed by man's rule and how "man's dominion" is the reason the mouse is afraid of man. The
plowman's humanity is described as "poor," and the mouse's "earth–born companion." Daimen
means rare or occasional, an icker is one ear of corn, and a thrave is a measure of cut grain. He says
it's not a big deal if the mouse takes an ear of corn every once in awhile and it's not a huge request

The Critical Values Perceived Through "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse"
(A Discussion of "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse")
Throughout life we are asked to analyze multiple different things. For example, take kids in sports
that are analyzing how they played in their previous game. Even some parents are known to
overanalyze their kids events which often leads to them getting ejected. Often times we are asked to
review stories or poems that we have read in English class and although at times that can be hard we
are all slowly getting better at it. Robert Burns To a Mouse and To a Louse has multiple romantic
philosophies.
First of all, there is the philosophy of worrying about only the present. He shows this a lot in the
poem To a Mouse. This is shown because even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eulogy: Papa Mouse
Once upon a time, in a small clearing in the woods, there lived a mouse. This mouse lived modestly
with his wife and his two little tiny baby mice in a small cottage. Inside the cottage was a cozy
living room with a warm hearth, and 2 small bedrooms that were painted the color of yellow
dandelions on a ripe summer day. They all lived together in that tiny round house, and the two tiny
mice would often go out and play in the babbling brook a little while into the woods. There was
Papa mouse, who was tall and limber, and as clever as they come. Then there was Mama mouse,
short and stout, who had the best jokes in half the animal kingdom and kept the family entertained
for days. Lastly, there was Little Timmy and Alice. They played all day long, ... Show more content

Summary Of Jumping Mouse
The myth of Jumping Mouse has been heard by many people of all different ages and backgrounds.
However, the story originated from an Aboriginal Religious background. The myth holds several
themes within it. The story begins with the mouse living an ordinary 'busy' life, which every other
mouse seems to be content with. However, Jumping Mouse was so curious to find out more about
life, and the strange sounds he was hearing. When he asked his fellow mice about it they quickly
dismissed Jumping Mouse and continued about their routines. However, Jumping Mouse ventured
out to explore the unknown. During his venture, he came across several different 'guides' such as:
The racoon, frog, old mouse, buffalo, and wolf. At the end of the story we see Jumping Mouse
transform from a mouse to an Eagle. I believe that the myth is a representation of our human
struggle with being open minded/ taking risks. We are so caught up in our busy everyday lives that
we forget to truly live our lives, and realize our true potential. At the beginning of the story we have
an ordinary mouse, but by the end of the story our mouse transforms into an eagle. The buildup to

three drugs that interested me the most in this reflection. LSD was the first drug that struck my
curiosity when learning about the compound components to. Thus to no surprise, the rat that was on

Cocaine works by temporarily blocking dopamine transporters in the brain, leaving the synaptic
cleft built up with excess dopamine, causing the cell to get overstimulated. This effects the reward
center of the brain, making the user feel a sensation of positive feelings for a short amount of time,
therefore making it highly addictive. Moving onto methamphetamine (meth), in my opinion, by far
the worst drug out off all the others in this experiment. Meth is introduced to the body through
inhalation or injection, causing the dopamine transporters in the brain to start working in reverse.
Due to this, dopamine floods the synapse causing the body to have intense sensations of happiness
and pleasure for a short period of time. A result in using this, will deplete your dopamine levels
causing a dependency on the drug to feel happiness or pleasure. The information that was presented
to me over the course of the mouse party interactive experiment, had been very beneficial to my
understanding of how drugs effect the brain. Everything in this experiment correlated to what we

Mouse Metabolic
Introduction
Metabolism is defined as "the totality of an organism's chemical reactions, consisting of catabolic
and anabolic pathways, which manage the material and energy resources of the organism" (Reece et
al. 2014.) Every living organism has a metabolism; however, not every organism's metabolic rate is
the same. There are different variables that can affect metabolism in organisms. Some of these
include: age, free mass, and fat mass (Johnstone et al. 2005.)
The species that was studied in this research experiment was Mus musculus, a species of mouse that
is often used for laboratory experiments. Mus musculus mice are genetically engineered with a
specific gene strain to be a more domesticated series. Many experiments have been done
intraspecifically to test variables of this particular animal (Konarzweski and Diamond 1995.) ...

The reason I expected this result is because in humans, generally male metabolic rate is higher than
female metabolic rate. I found that in humans, the reason males have higher metabolic rates is often
because they have more lean body mass, whereas females have more fat cells. Fat cells have slower
metabolic rates than muscle cells. (Krotkiewski et al. 1983.) This however, only explains why
human metabolic rate is affected by gender, It does not explain why mouse metabolic rate does not
differ based on gender. One explanation may be that mice are smaller than humans, so they have less
variance in body composition between males and females. There were some trends in the data that
were observed, such as the initial measurements of male metabolic rates appearing to all be higher
than the averages for females. This is deceiving, as it appears that the trend will be the final result.
However, statistics show that the difference is not significant enough to be sure that there is a
correlation between the gender and metabolic

To A Mouse By Robert Burns
Robert Burns wrote the poem "To A Mouse". In this poem, Burns identifies the animal with the
human world, although the poem is essentially about himself. The mouse is interesting to him,
because its plight reminds him of his own. The comparison, however, is neither forced nor
sentimental, and the gap between the world of mice and men is bridged by friendly compassion. The
poem has charm and vigor, as well as technical skills. The poem gives us a momentary flash of a
philosophical view of an order in nature, which is not made the subject of moralizing but only
lightly suggested. Light though the suggestion is, it swells out and provides an implicit moral base
for the poem. In verse two, Burns states: "I'm truly sorry man's dominion; Has broken ... Show more

Here he tells the mouse that he realizes its need to steal the odd ear of corn, and he does not really

having your plans ruined is universal. In conclusion Robert Burns makes the reader think about life

In the poem, To a Mouse, by Robert Burns, is one confusing poem. From my understanding, when
someone knows what the poem is talking about it makes more sense. When you hear the poem being
read aloud, you can start to understand exactly what is going at. In this poem, a mouse's home was
destroyed by a farmer. Let's just say that, that farmer was pretty upset doing such a thing. Being a
farmer and not knowing what you are going to destroy, can be devastating, but at the same time you
when you need to get work done, you don't care what is in the way. But there are three important

Burns now realizes what he has done and he feels incredibly horrible. He realizes that he destroyed a

after destroying somethings home. Burns addresses the mouse as a "companion" he grieves the loss
of its nest. He believes that the mouse is blessed, compared to him. Secondly, we are somehow the
same. Robert Burns talks to the mouse saying how he can relate to the poor mouse's home. We can
only imagine how that mouse felt, losing its home and not having a place to stay during the winter.
One thing that caught my attention was why would the mouse choose the field? Maybe he didn't

To A Mouse And Louse Summary
Silly Little Critter
(Three Messages From Mouse and Louse) When Robert Burns wrote To a Mouse as well as To a
Louse, he had to have been thinking about it pretty hard, because the messages of each text connect
to one another in many ways. In both of these texts, he used little critters that might gross some
people out. He didn't really use a creature that very many people found cute in any way. It was a
very creative way to go about, because he decided he would use a animal/insect that people don't
really pay too much attention to. There was a very genius reason to why he decided to use pests as
the main topic of his texts, and that's because it made all of the messages more clear to the reader.
Robert Burns was a really known author, and many people thought very highly of him. According to
Brooke A. Stopford, "His greatest power, that which made him ... Show more content on

in the texts, is because Burns talked about how they don't have to live their life struggling because of
worrying. Something that humans do a lot of the time is stress over things that might be big, but
might also not be as important as we act like it is. In the text To a Mouse, Burns said, "Still thou art
blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth thee." What was being said in this sentence is
that even though the mouse's house got completely destroyed, instead of sitting there and worrying
about it, he just started building a new one. He doesn't know about the past, nor the future. All that
animals, as well as insects know about is the present, which gives them a huge advantage over us.
Same thing goes for the louse in To a Louse. He didn't know that he could get hit by something at
any minute and die, because unlike humans, they don't know about death until it

To A Mouse Essay

  • 1. To A Mouse Essay Romantic poetry demonstrates a focus on nature and simplicity by displaying everyday life through the use of everyday language. "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns displays the common motif found in poetry at the time; the unity of man and nature. Poets of the Romantic time period believe that all of nature, even the smallest parts, is connected. "To a Mouse" portrays the use of iambic tetrameter and structural organization by using sequence of events with the main idea expressed in the last two stanzas. This poem displays the equality of man and nature, simplifies situations, and illustrates the natural instinct of living things to survive. A universal thought presented by romantic poets is the belief that man conflicts with the natural course of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Mrs. Molnar's To A Mouse Dreams often just bring grief and pain and not the expected joy that we hope for. In the teacher's summary of "To a Mouse", Mrs.Molnar wrote, "mouse is shivering and terrified...And now her little winter house is all in a ruin. He imagines the mouse planning ahead carefully for the winter–she worked so hard to make her nice little nest, and then, BOOM". The mouse had a dream to live in its winter house, keep comfortable, so the mouse planned out everything to strive for the dream. However, the man came and destroyed the house that was all part of the mouse's dream, now it only leaves so much pain and grief that the mouse is shivering so much and the promised happiness had been broken. Then in the poem, "To a Mouse" the mouse is written about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Mouse Forestomach Essay ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION The stomach is a part of the muscular sac and characteristic curves of the proximal digestive tract1 that has an evolutionarily diverse structure and plenty of functions including food digestion, hormonal regulation of metabolic homeostasis, and immune regulation1–3. In mouse, the stomach contains three main parts: forestomach, corpus and antrum1,4–6 and its ontogeny starts around embryonic day 9.5 (E9.5)7. The stomach is protruding and visible at E10.5 and then enlarges7,8. Around E12.5, it migrates to the left side of body and a day later the forestomach starts to develop a stratified squamous epithelium while the glandular stomach begins to develop simple columnar epithelium8,9. The glandular stomach differentiates into smooth muscle and muscle layer thickens at E14.5 and different type cells become mature1,7,10. Currently, most studies on mouse stomach development are on a certain protein or signal. Sox21, Barx111 and Hoxa5 12, FGF signal1,3,4, BMP signal13 and SHH pathway14 take part in the process of mouse stomach development together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. To A Mouse Allusion Human beings and animals are both equal because we breathe the same air, walk the same land, and whether you're an animal or a man your plans are prone to be thrown of track. In the short classic novel Of Mice and Men the author John Steinbeck tells the story of two friends, Lennie Small and George Milton. They are migrant ranch workers who move around California in search of jobs in order to achieve their dream. Their dream is to own their own piece of land. Yet due to Lennie's disability, he gets into big trouble and their dream is demolished. George is a smart man who is Lennie's guardian and best friend. Lennie is a very strong man but he has an unknown mental disability. Lennie has the urge to feel soft objects but anytime he does they die. Due to this Steinbeck brilliantly foreshadows the death of Lennie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of Mice and Men is an allusion, To a Mouse a poem by Robert Burns. An allusion is a figure of speech, which is meant to refer someone to another piece of literature and borrow from their ideas. To a Mouse is a poem about the speaker accidently turning over the mouse's nest which the mouse had prepared in order to survive the winter. Much like humans "the best laid schemes of mice and men," will go "askew" and we will be left to wonder on our own (Burns 4). Anxiety behavior of these mice was tested using EPM under two trials with one week apart. Under the environment of 23 Celsius and incandescent light, the mice were tested between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the morning. Using the same path for both trials, the mice were brought to the behavioral room from the animal facility and allowed to acclimate for 15 minutes prior testing. During acclimation, the stainless steel EPM was set up for the experiment. The EPM consisted of two opposing open arms (35X5 cm) and two close arms (35X5X15 cm) with a center platform (5X5cm) in junction with all four arms. Supporting each arm of the maze was a stainless steel leg, facilitating the elevation of the EPM to 60cm above the ground. After putting the whole EPM apparatus together, the maze was situated inside a kiddy pool to prevent the mice from running off if they fell off during the test. An iPad was used as a video–tracking device was set up at an angle to put the EPM in full view of the four arms including the center platform. Figure 1 illustrated how the EPM apparatus was set up and how the mouse was initially placed on the center platform facing either side of the open arms. • 13. LH Mouse Model Comparative analysis of LH levels and pulse frequency in mouse models Abstract: Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone and is responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and of secondary sex characteristics. Produced primarily by the ovaries, estrogen binds to and activates estrogen receptor beta (ER)– a nuclear receptor. Estrogen plays an important role in the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis by acting on gonadotropin–releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons located within the hypothalamus. In females, a cyclic reversal of estrogen feedback produces a positive feedback loop at both the hypothalamic and pituitary levels. This is coupled with an increase in pituitary sensitivity to GnRH, which produces the massive surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation. However, LH is not only secreted during this surge– it is secreted in a pulsatile manner otherwise. This paper will focus on the implications on LH pulsatility by knocking out ER, as well as by removing the ovaries. Introduction: In both the male and female, the coordinated actions of hormones from the hypothalamus, anterior pituitary, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Estrogen has a bimodal effect on the hypothalamus with both inhibitory and stimulatory influences on GnRH secretion. The stimulatory effect of estrogen is seen at the end of the follicular phase where estrogen triggers the preovulatory GnRH surge. The ability of estrogen to induce a surge declines with age in female rodents and women. This appears to be due in large part to a decrease in estrogen induction of GnRH neurons, particularly in rodents. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on GnRH secretion and GnRH gene expression has been show in in in vivo studies indicating that estrogen inhibits GnRH pulse amplitude in the early follicular and luteal phase of the ... Both town and country mouse are the main characters. The country mouse archetype is a less fortunate character. On the other hand, the town mouse is more wealthy then the country mouse. The country mouse showed the other mouse around the countryside and try all the food that was offered. • 17. Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them suggested we hide it in Mrs Pratchett's jars of sweets. I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky consequences. Once we reached there, I've started planning my own mouse plot by tricking my friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn't. We barged in the sweet shop, and we saw Mrs Pratchett's dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop like a pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won't be expecting any tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while. She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had to clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going on. It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there wasn't , my plan could have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse's germs off my hands (the water there wasn't very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can't really call it a mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and they all have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I was chuckling quietly to see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn't find any trace of mouse in there. Confused, Thwaites asked her to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. To A Mouse Literary Devices The poem from this week's module that most appealed to me was "To A Mouse" by Robert Burns. While the prospect of the poem is quite simple, consisting of a sympathetic farmer who seeks to comfort a mouse that he's unwittingly left homeless, there is a lot more to the poem than it may seem at first. From the author's background to the philosophical ideas introduced or the literary devices used, "To A Mouse" is a fascinating introduction to the subject of Scottish literature. The aspect of the poem that most affected me was the humble nature of Burns as a person, portrayed via the actions of the character featured within. The farmer spends the poem profusely apologizing and comparing himself to a lowly mouse, as if they were equals. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After lamenting the ruined plight of the mouse and apologizing on behalf of all mankind, the farmer delivers an ingenious line with profound implications for all forms of hierarchy. The famous quote, "The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men / Gang aft agley" (Burns 39–40), expresses that anybody can fail regardless of their social or ethnic background. Burns spends the entire poem up to this point expressing a humble sympathy for the mouse, but it is with this line that he finally presents the reason behind his ideas. It is with this quote that Burns places all mortals on an equal plane, as they can all suffer from the misery of ruined plans. While the farmer expressed such a thought for the purpose of comforting the mouse, Burns likely had a much deeper purpose for his words. Given the logic behind these words, men are equal to mice and the rich are equal to the poor because none are safe from disaster. Any plan made is prone to failure, and in this sense all are equal. This is a surprisingly thought provoking idea given the narrative context of the poem, and is likely the reason why the poem continues to be studied and debated today and remains a standard against which other works are ... • 21. Essay on To a Mouse In the poems Robert Burns' "To a Mouse" and "The Mouse's Petition" by Anna Letitia Barbauld, many feelings and emotions about mice are brought forth. While both poems were written by different authors, many of the feelings they share towards mice are common. The analysis of the two poems will help to find the comparisons and differences in theme, political and social issues, diction, and tone. Examples from the poems will help to show the similarities and differences in the two. The tone of each poet in the poems, many similarities become evident. Both poets portray a sad and guilty tone when talking about mice. When Barbauld begins to write about what she believes the mouse is feeling inside of the test cage, the reader gets an idea how ... Through the use of the poem she tries to tell the scientist "Beware, lest in the worm you crush, a brother's soul you find." (Barbauld, l.35–36) Barbauld relates that killing a mouse is not morally different from taking the life of a fellow man. The poems theme is effective and pushes the reader to feel sorrow for the poor mouse. In "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns, the ongoing themes are guilt and fear. Burns knows what mice are up to, stealing his food from his crops and ruining his walls within his home to make homes of their own. Burns however, does not care because he himself feels guilty for the little mice. Burns feels like even though they may be a nuisance to some humans, the mice have no choice but to do these things to live to see another day. "I doubt na, whiles, but thou may thieve; What then? Poor beastie, thou maun live!" (Burns l.13–14) Burns explains why he is not bothered that the mice steal his food. Burns also has the theme of fear in his poem. The mice fear men, and for good reason, Burns is aware of this and makes minimal effort to scare the mice while they are at work. "An' justifies that ill opinion which makes thee startle," (Burns, l.9–10) Burns discusses how the fear mice have for men is due to the brutes who have no patience to understand what the mice go through. So naturally, the cat found a wife and the mouse found a husband and more animals came and they formed the cat and mouse gangs. And the gangs were both democracies. The cat and mouse who formed the gangs got elected. They weren't really "gangs" they were more of battling societies so they both replaced the gang with society. So they kept fighting. If I were to use this book in a second grade classroom and be questioned about it by the principle I would say that I am using it to teach the concept of cause and effect. Concept books are great to use because there are so many benefits that can come out of them. In this book particularly it would be a great simulant of discussion for the students, they can explore the different ideas within the book and talk amongst each other about their own opinions. For example, when the students ate to much candy they got a tummy ache, the cause of the tummy ache was eating too much candy and the effect of eating too much candy was a tummy ache, I will do the same thing and use the example of tripping over something. Once they have a pretty good understanding of the concept I will read the book to them. Once I am done reading the book the students and I will go back through it and figure out all of the examples of cause and effect throughout the book. For example, in the book it reads "If you take a mouse to school, he'll ask you for your lunch box. When you give him your lunchbox, he'll want a sandwich and a snack for later." After reading this the students and I would discuss that the cause of the mouse wanting the lunch box was because he was going to school and because he was given a lunch box he wanted to fill it with food for later and that was the effect the mouse receiving the lunch box. Once the students understand this concept pretty well, they will break into groups of two and create a short story of cause and effect using any animal they want. • 27. To A Mouse, By Robert Burns The poem "To a Mouse" by Robert Burns shows how man has become exalted above other living creatures. The poem was written in the 1700s in Scotland and has a mood of friendly compassion in the Scottish Dialect which it's written in. The major theme embedded throughout the poem is hierarchy in nature, which is where creatures are separated based on their intelligence and strength to survive. The first difference that separates the mouse and the man is their strength to survive. The man discovers the mouse stealing corn from him because he can't find food to survive the brutal winter. Because of this line: "I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve" (Burns 13), it shows the man is the strongest and most intelligent character because he realizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When things aren't equal or they are condensed into a hierarchy; it creates oppression, violence, hatred and suffering in our society. This is found in the quote: "I'm truly sorry man's dominion, Has broken nature's social union" (Burns 7–8). A real world example is the way America's meat industry treats animals cruelly by not giving them a proper life before we use them as food, we should care for them more and treat them as a gift and our equal. The last stanzas explain the downside for the man being on top of the hierarchy of nature. It reads: "Still thou art blest, compar'd wi' me/ The present only toucheth thee" (Burns 43–44). The mouse is blessed compared with the man because the present only touches it and it doesn't have the capability to worry or fear from the past or future. The themes in "To a Mouse" developed throughout the poem to show all aspects of the hierarchy of nature: the struggles of the weak, the downside of the strong and the way these two aspects balance the hierarchy of ... Similarly, in the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, George, and Lennie's dream of owning a farm gets destroyed by Curley. In the poem "To a Mouse" by Burns, the speaker writes an apology to the mouse for the way it gets treated by humans. The speaker describes the mouse as a "sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast" that is running away from humans. He tells the mouse that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse, "why dash away, so quick, so rash, in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you". The speaker means no harm but the mouse's first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he expects to get chased by humans. The speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes stealing food. The narrator says "I have no doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You too must live!" He knows that the mouse must find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little mouse had a home–built to keep warm but the farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its home. When apologizing to the mouse the speaker says "Your tiny house lies in a ruin, its fragile walls and–rent and strewn! Now nothing's left to build you a new one of mosses green." • 43. To A Mouse Analysis "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men, gang aft agley." Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930's during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple–minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie's dream that inspired the novel's title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns' poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes when telling Lennie about it. • 45. To A Mouse, By Robert Burns Well, it seems to me that the big theme that Robert Burns is trying to get across in his poem "To a Mouse", is that learning to live in the moment is an important part in achieving happiness . He starts showing this theme by talking to the mouse about how he doesn't want to hurt it, but wants to help it. He feels bad that mice and other animals have learned to flee when encountered by people in fear of being killed. Burns shows his concern for how humans believe they are the smarter and better than other life forms when he writes, "...truly sorry man's dominion has broken nature's social union...". I assume that Burns is trying to say that he and the mouse are equals and that humans should realize that everything living has an equal amount of potential. He then goes on to talk about how the mouse is actually the lucky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the end of the poem, I understand why Burns was writing about the two smaller themes. He was tying together the theme of "knowledge does not always bring happiness" by mentioning how mankind seems to dominate everything and that he is happy that the mouse lives in the present and is not stressed out. Burns used these as examples because he is explaining to the mouse that the reason humans control everything is because they get anxious over the future by their past memories of failure. He keeps saying how mice are just as equal as humans in life because mice don't go through those stresses in life and they help keep the ones who do, sane. Another example of this theme is with George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. George represents the humans because he is in charge of making sure Lennie and himself stay alive and get jobs. Lennie plays the role of the mouse because he keeps their dream of living on their own land alive in both Lennie and George's mind. This article focuses on the population field mice in the Darling Downs. This region of Australia is an extremely arable district in south eastern Queensland that has lost the majority of its native vegetation cover to agriculture (Fensham and Fairfax, 1997). The theme of this ecological topic demonstrates how a population of a species can increase due to the availability of food, and the methods to reduce numbers via poison baiting. The article aims to answer whether it is possible to predict mouse plagues in grain crops in Queensland. Plagues of house mice begin to damage cereal crops immediately after sowing (Mutze and Hubbard, 2000), which can cause stunting and reduced plant growth. Forecasting plagues will allow the mice to be proactively controlled by poison baiting, resulting in higher crop yield. It is hypothesized that a prediction of these plagues, followed by poison baiting, will result in much fewer numbers of field mice left to consume crops. To A Mouse, By John Steinbeck "One of the generalities most often noted about Americans is that we are a restless, a dissatisfied, a searching people,"(Steinbeck America & Americans) John Steinbeck stated this when discussing the topic of the American dream. He believes that numerous Americans are chasing after a dream that is nearly impossible to reach. John Steinbeck expresses his belief on the American dream through a general negative attitude toward the American dream and the failed dreams of his characters. The book shares the same negative views about dreams with the poem "To a Mouse", by Robert Burns. • 51. Transgenic Mouse Model What is the major problem being addressed by this study? This research aims at understanding how Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE) develops after traumatic incidents such as stroke. In our lab, we use a transgenic mouse model in order to selectively delete PTEN from dentate granule cells (DGC) found in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus– where TLE forms. The experiments have shown that deleting PTEN causes abnormalities amongst DGC, causes mice to display seizures, and is sufficient to cause TLE. By utilizing advanced imaging and neuron reconstruction we are able to test the leading hypothesis that abnormal DGC drive TLE. What specific questions are you asking and how will you attempt to answer them? In this proposal we want to know: 1) the relationship between abnormal cell morphology and temporal lobe epilepsy (the most common type of post–stroke epilepsy) 2) What are the other intrinsic and extrinsic cell changes that occur in this model 3) Whether there is an alteration in the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory inputs to the cell that can ultimately drive TLE. Summary Of To A Mouse And To A Mouse In 1786, Robert Burns published his first line of poetry "Poems: Chiefly in Scottish Dialect" which made him well–known with the poems of "To a Mouse", and "To a Louse". His techniques included writing six lines for each stanza. The rhyme scheme to these lines consist of AAABA giving the first, second, third, and fifth lines four pairs of stressed and unstressed syllables. What I mean by if you stress the first syllable, the subject will be totally different than an unstressed subject. In his poetry, the fourth and sixth lines are different from the other lines. These two lines consist of two pairs of stressed and unstressed syllables which is similar to a limerick or a ballad. This essay will be a compare and contrast of his two poems To a Mouse, and To a Louse and a breakdown of these stanzas. In Burns's poem of "To a Mouse", his first stanza is talking about the destruction of a mouse's nest as the character is doing his winter plowing. As he addresses the mouse he is reassuring the mouse there is no harm intended. It moves onto him, saying nature has been destroyed by man's rule and how "man's dominion" is the reason the mouse is afraid of man. To A Mouse And To A Louse The Critical Values Perceived Through "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse" (A Discussion of "To A Mouse" and "To A Louse") Throughout life we are asked to analyze multiple different things. For example, take kids in sports that are analyzing how they played in their previous game. Even some parents are known to overanalyze their kids events which often leads to them getting ejected. Often times we are asked to review stories or poems that we have read in English class and although at times that can be hard we are all slowly getting better at it. Robert Burns To a Mouse and To a Louse has multiple romantic philosophies. First of all, there is the philosophy of worrying about only the present. He shows this a lot in the poem To a Mouse. This is shown because even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown extremely well in To a Louse when the lady walks into the room and he spots a little louse jumping around on her hat but he decides not to tell her because he knew if he did it would make her feel like less of a person. "Now hard ye there yere out o' sight" ( Line 19 from To a Louse) When he says this, he is talking to the louse hiding under the woman's hat because he didn't want anyone else to see it otherwise they might judge this woman who believed that she was perfect. Often times we as people judge the person next to us or say something that might hurt their feelings or be detrimental to someone's self esteem. We only care about ourselves and things that will help us individually. Frequently self esteem can lead to multiple different consequences one of them being stress. "Among the individual differences that can explain capacities and risk factors in terms of suffering from stress in the individual's self–esteem"(Dolan) I believe this is important to understand because people commonly don't understand that what they say can hurt people in ways that might not be imaginable by ... • 61. Eulogy: Papa Mouse Once upon a time, in a small clearing in the woods, there lived a mouse. This mouse lived modestly with his wife and his two little tiny baby mice in a small cottage. Inside the cottage was a cozy living room with a warm hearth, and 2 small bedrooms that were painted the color of yellow dandelions on a ripe summer day. They all lived together in that tiny round house, and the two tiny mice would often go out and play in the babbling brook a little while into the woods. There was Papa mouse, who was tall and limber, and as clever as they come. Then there was Mama mouse, short and stout, who had the best jokes in half the animal kingdom and kept the family entertained for days. Lastly, there was Little Timmy and Alice. They played all day long, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every so often Papa mouse would need a herb for a recipe that would not be in his backyard, and he would go to the market to acquire it. Now he had gone to the market many times before, but this time it was different. This time someone was watching him. As Papa mouse walked along the forest path to the market, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up and he slowly turned around. What he saw terrified him (although he didn't show it.) A giant rattlesnake slithered toward him and came to a stop about 2 feet away from him. Papa mouse winced as the foul and poisonous breath came his way. "Now I apologize for that first impression," the snake said sadly. "Everyone is always scared of me and I have no friends. Will you be my friend?" Now Papa mouse was a very friendly and outgoing person, but he sensed that something was wrong with the snake's story. "Sure," Papa mouse said cautiously. "What do you want to ... • 65. Summary Of Jumping Mouse The myth of Jumping Mouse has been heard by many people of all different ages and backgrounds. However, the story originated from an Aboriginal Religious background. The myth holds several themes within it. The story begins with the mouse living an ordinary 'busy' life, which every other mouse seems to be content with. However, Jumping Mouse was so curious to find out more about life, and the strange sounds he was hearing. When he asked his fellow mice about it they quickly dismissed Jumping Mouse and continued about their routines. However, Jumping Mouse ventured out to explore the unknown. During his venture, he came across several different 'guides' such as: The racoon, frog, old mouse, buffalo, and wolf. At the end of the story we see Jumping Mouse transform from a mouse to an Eagle. I believe that the myth is a representation of our human struggle with being open minded/ taking risks. We are so caught up in our busy everyday lives that we forget to truly live our lives, and realize our true potential. At the beginning of the story we have an ordinary mouse, but by the end of the story our mouse transforms into an eagle. The buildup to the mouse's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author also uses imagery as a literary tool throughout the narrative. "Do you Hear a Roaring in your Ears, my Brother (Novak, 1994)?" Imagery closely relates to our physical senses. My prior knowledge on this subject matter was rather small, therefore my interest in this experiment was elevated. I chose to discuss three drugs that interested me the most in this reflection. LSD was the first drug that struck my curiosity when learning about the compound components to. Thus to no surprise, the rat that was on it was picked first. LSD relies almost completely on the serotonin neurons in the brain by rearranging and binding them together to create array of effects on the body. LSD is known for the way it reacts to receptor's in a variety different ways, making the hallucinatory effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cocaine works by temporarily blocking dopamine transporters in the brain, leaving the synaptic cleft built up with excess dopamine, causing the cell to get overstimulated. This effects the reward center of the brain, making the user feel a sensation of positive feelings for a short amount of time, therefore making it highly addictive. Moving onto methamphetamine (meth), in my opinion, by far the worst drug out off all the others in this experiment. Meth is introduced to the body through inhalation or injection, causing the dopamine transporters in the brain to start working in reverse. Due to this, dopamine floods the synapse causing the body to have intense sensations of happiness and pleasure for a short period of time. A result in using this, will deplete your dopamine levels causing a dependency on the drug to feel happiness or pleasure. The information that was presented to me over the course of the mouse party interactive experiment, had been very beneficial to my understanding of how drugs effect the brain. Mouse Metabolic Introduction Metabolism is defined as "the totality of an organism's chemical reactions, consisting of catabolic and anabolic pathways, which manage the material and energy resources of the organism" (Reece et al. 2014.) Every living organism has a metabolism; however, not every organism's metabolic rate is the same. There are different variables that can affect metabolism in organisms. Some of these include: age, free mass, and fat mass (Johnstone et al. 2005.) The species that was studied in this research experiment was Mus musculus, a species of mouse that is often used for laboratory experiments. Mus musculus mice are genetically engineered with a specific gene strain to be a more domesticated series. Many experiments have been done intraspecifically to test variables of this particular animal (Konarzweski and Diamond 1995.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I expected this result is because in humans, generally male metabolic rate is higher than female metabolic rate. I found that in humans, the reason males have higher metabolic rates is often because they have more lean body mass, whereas females have more fat cells. Fat cells have slower metabolic rates than muscle cells. (Krotkiewski et al. 1983.) This however, only explains why human metabolic rate is affected by gender, It does not explain why mouse metabolic rate does not differ based on gender. One explanation may be that mice are smaller than humans, so they have less variance in body composition between males and females. There were some trends in the data that were observed, such as the initial measurements of male metabolic rates appearing to all be higher than the averages for females. This is deceiving, as it appears that the trend will be the final result. However, statistics show that the difference is not significant enough to be sure that there is a correlation between the gender and metabolic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. To A Mouse By Robert Burns Robert Burns wrote the poem "To A Mouse". In this poem, Burns identifies the animal with the human world, although the poem is essentially about himself. The mouse is interesting to him, because its plight reminds him of his own. The comparison, however, is neither forced nor sentimental, and the gap between the world of mice and men is bridged by friendly compassion. The poem has charm and vigor, as well as technical skills. The poem gives us a momentary flash of a philosophical view of an order in nature, which is not made the subject of moralizing but only lightly suggested. Light though the suggestion is, it swells out and provides an implicit moral base for the poem. In verse two, Burns states: "I'm truly sorry man's dominion; Has broken ... He then marks a return to the bridge between the world of mice and men achieved effortlessly and with apparent casualness. Having linked mice and men in that simple phrase, he can proceed to speak of "us" which now means all mortal creatures. He goes on to state: "But Mousie, thou art no thy lane; In proving foresight may be vain; The best–laid schemes o' mice an' men; Gang aft agley; An' lea'e us nought but grieft an' pain; For promis'd joy!". Burns means whether you are a mouse, a man, or any other creature, the problem of having your plans ruined is universal. In conclusion Robert Burns makes the reader think about life in very different aspects for the time period that this poem was written. He shows that life is never easy. You can be an animal as simple as a mouse or as complex as a human and have complications in your life. • 73. To A Mouse, By Robert Burns In the poem, To a Mouse, by Robert Burns, is one confusing poem. From my understanding, when someone knows what the poem is talking about it makes more sense. When you hear the poem being read aloud, you can start to understand exactly what is going at. In this poem, a mouse's home was destroyed by a farmer. Let's just say that, that farmer was pretty upset doing such a thing. Being a farmer and not knowing what you are going to destroy, can be devastating, but at the same time you when you need to get work done, you don't care what is in the way. But there are three important messages from To a Mouse, the mouse's home gets destroyed, secondly Burns says that we the people and the mouse have some similar traits, and lastly we also have some differences. ... He says, "I'm truly sorry man's dominion, has broken natures social union." Burns notices that we humans, are the same in some ways. Robert feels guilt, I mean who wouldn't after destroying somethings home. Burns addresses the mouse as a "companion" he grieves the loss of its nest. He believes that the mouse is blessed, compared to him. Secondly, we are somehow the same. Robert Burns talks to the mouse saying how he can relate to the poor mouse's home. We can only imagine how that mouse felt, losing its home and not having a place to stay during the winter. One thing that caught my attention was why would the mouse choose the field? Maybe he didn't have any other place to look and wanted to find something fast and quick. Burns says, "But mousie, thou art no thy lane." The left flank of each animal will be injected subcutaneously with 5×106 cancer cells mixed with Matrigel Matrix. We will monitor tumor growth at 3–day intervals by measuring the length and the width of the tumor with a caliper as well as calculating the tumor volume on the basis of the following formula: V = 0.5ab2, using the longest (a) and shortest (b) diameters of the tumor. When the tumor volume reaches approximately 100 mm3, we will randomly assign the mice to the experimental groups as detailed below. However, because these agents are absent in proteins produced by human cells, such proteins are generally tolerated by the human immune system [36].Nevertheless, aggregation of human–origin proteins may induce an immune response [37]. Furthermore, due to its complexity, the process or degree of protein aggregation is unpredictable [38]. In order to minimize the likelihood of immune response, therefore, the protocol to produce our fusion protein takes into consideration the following, significant elements: (1) sequence optimization to avoid the epitope recognition by T–cells; (2) use of human cells for protein expression; and, (3) endotoxin–free ... • 77. To A Mouse And Louse Summary Silly Little Critter (Three Messages From Mouse and Louse) When Robert Burns wrote To a Mouse as well as To a Louse, he had to have been thinking about it pretty hard, because the messages of each text connect to one another in many ways. In both of these texts, he used little critters that might gross some people out. He didn't really use a creature that very many people found cute in any way. It was a very creative way to go about, because he decided he would use a animal/insect that people don't really pay too much attention to. There was a very genius reason to why he decided to use pests as the main topic of his texts, and that's because it made all of the messages more clear to the reader. Robert Burns was a really known author, and many people thought very highly of him. According to Brooke A. Stopford, "His greatest power, that which made him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very true message in many ways. The main reason why this is most likely the best message in the texts, is because Burns talked about how they don't have to live their life struggling because of worrying. Something that humans do a lot of the time is stress over things that might be big, but might also not be as important as we act like it is. In the text To a Mouse, Burns said, "Still thou art blest, compared wi' me! The present only toucheth thee." What was being said in this sentence is that even though the mouse's house got completely destroyed, instead of sitting there and worrying about it, he just started building a new one. He doesn't know about the past, nor the future. All that animals, as well as insects know about is the present, which gives them a huge advantage over us. Same thing goes for the louse in To a Louse. He didn't know that he could get hit by something at any minute and die, because unlike humans, they don't know about death until it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
