This document summarizes research by Cisco researchers on using traditional statistical and behavioral analysis techniques to detect and attribute malware that uses TLS encryption for command and control channels, without decrypting or compromising TLS sessions. The researchers analyzed network flow records, TLS metadata, DNS data, and HTTP data from malware and benign traffic to develop machine learning models that can accurately classify encrypted flows as malware or benign. Their best model achieved over 99.6% accuracy when using intraflow features as well as TLS extension, cipher suite, and public key information.

How can i find my security blind spots ulf mattsson - aug 2016Ulf Mattsson
Security Blind Spots
We need to automatically detect and report on security blind spots, including Sensitive Data that was not found in our initial Discovery and failures of deployed security control systems. Without formal and automated processes to detect and alert to new data discovery findings and critical security control failures as soon as possible, the window of time grows that allows attackers to identify a way to compromise the systems and steal sensitive data. This can also impact our real compliance posture.
Symantec Cyber Security Services: Security Simulation strengthens cyber-readiness by providing live-fire simulation of today’s most sophisticated, advanced targeted attacks. Our cloud-based, virtual training experience provides multi-staged attack scenarios allowing participants to take on the identity of their adversaries to learn their motives, tactics and tools. This gamification of security education helps level the playing field by providing a more engaging, immersive real-world experience than traditional security skills training.
Security Simulation allows participants to assess their game performance and provides structured guidance for on-going skills development. It also allows security leaders to strengthen their team by providing insight into individual and team performance, visibility of functional gaps within the team and the option of performing pre-hire skill assessments.

Gartner defines a SOC as both a team, often operating in shifts around the clock, and a facility dedicated to and organized to prevent, detect, assess and respond to cybersecurity threats and incidents, and to fulfill and assess regulatory compliance. The term "cybersecurity operation center "is often used synonymously for SOC.
A network operations center (NOC) is not a SOC, which focuses on network device management rather than detecting and responding to cybersecurity incidents. Coordination between the two is common, however.
A managed security service is not the same as having a SOC — although a service provider may offer services from a SOC. A managed service is a shared resource and not solely dedicated to a single organization or entity. Similarly, there is no such thing as a managed SOC.
Most of the technologies, processes and best practices that are used in a SOC are not specific to a SOC. Incident response or vulnerability management remain the same, whether delivered from a SOC or not. It is a meta-topic, involving many security domains and disciplines, and depending on the services and functions that are delivered by the SOC.

• Cyber security incident response
• Malware analysis
• Forensic analysis
• Threat intelligence analysis
• Risk analytics and attack path modeling

Critical Capabilities for MDR Services - What to Know Before You BuyFidelis Cybersecurity
24/7 coverage and skills shortages for post breach detection and response are driving the need for Managed Detection and Response (MDR) Services. Analysts are predicting 15X growth for MDR services over the next few years as security leaders shift their focus from prevention to detection knowing attacks are evading existing defenses, often without malware by using macros and scripts.
Managed services often use MDR marketing messages and this sometimes results in their security monitoring services not meeting expectations. Buyers must learn what to look for in an MDR solution to avoid falling into this trap.

Frank Brockners' presentation from the 2017 Open Networking Summit.
While troubleshooting or planning, did you ever wish to get full insight into which paths *all* your packets take in your network, understand whether your SLA is really in place, or were you ever asked to prove that your traffic really follows the path you specified by service chaining or traffic engineering? We approach this problem by adding meta-data to *all* packets. In-band OAM adds forwarding path information and other information/stats to every data packet - as opposed to relying on probe packets, which is the traditional method that tools like ping or traceroute use. This session will introduce In-band OAM, explain the technology and outline the reference implementation in FD.io/VPP and OpenDaylight using a example demos.
Presentation of a few mechanisms that can help to automate the bootstrap process in IoT environment.
This is the summary of my work done during an 8 weeks internship at red hat
20 years of web cryptography, and its amazing how frequently its configured sub-optimally. We've had numerous encryption algorithms, digests, protocols come, and should have GONE, but everyone has just left them on. Its time to shut out the legacy browser. The vast majority of the worlds browser install base now auto-updates, and with strict (and prescriptive) compliance in force, we get to drop the bloat form the past. In this talk we'll cover the current TRANSITIONS we're going through from a web admins perspective: TLS, Cipher Suites, HTTP Security Headers, CAs, the move to an encrypted-by-default web, and more.
The realities of insider threats and determined attackers have made it necessary to implement security technologies on the network interior. This session will discuss leveraging network telemetry, such as NetFlow and Cisco ISE, in combination with the Cisco StealthWatch System and in order to monitor the network interior to detect and respond to threats. Use cases on how to best organize and query NetFlow data will be presented as well as how to drive an investigation in order to identify an attacker's presence on the network based on the statistical analysis of network telemetry. The target audience for this session are network and security administrators and analysts interested in learning how to best leverage NetFlow, ISE, and StealthWatch as a component of their security operations center.
In Hands-on Encrypted Data Analytics, you’ll learn how to configure this new telemetry in Cisco routers and switches, use Stealthwatch to identify non-compliant devices and malware without encryption and speed up incident response and forensics.

Positive Hack Days
Positive Hack Days

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
