Teresa Lane has worked for almost three years at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. She was initially hired to implement Taskstream for accreditation purposes, and quickly mastered using and training others on the system. When responsibilities changed, Lane was reallocated to the Technology Department where she took on new tasks like managing the digital sign, transferring data between systems, and maintaining online courses, quickly learning the new skills required. The letter writer, Fiona Seels, describes Lane as motivated, responsible, and excellent at completing tasks ahead of schedule. Seels believes Lane's technical skills will continue growing and that she treats others with respect.
1. To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the privilege of working with Teresa Lane for almost three years.
Ms. Lane was hired into our department to take responsibility for implementing Taskstreamas
part of our School’s accreditation process. When she arrived I was responsible for her early
training with Taskstream and orienting her to some of our programs and processes. She was a
quick study and soon was able to operate very independently in the system and sought further
training on her own through Taskstream’s support services. She was soon able to not only
master maintaining our system and developing new templates, but also generating
documentation and training students and evaluators in how to use the system. In addition to
utilizing the technical writing skills that she brought to the job, Teresa also mastered screen-
casting so that she could create video tutorials to support the system.
When our school decided to de-prioritize accreditation efforts, Terry was reallocated to the
Technology Department, where I work and where she was quickly asked to master new skills.
She took over responsibility for our School’s digital sign. The content displayed there improved
dramatically. She has a good eye for graphic design and took time to make sure that slides were
formatted creatively and professionally. She also took it upon herself to seek out high quality
content to help increase the sign’s appeal to the community. A second responsibility that Ms.
Lane assumed was the process of regularly transferring data from our application systemto our
student information system. I was responsible for training Ms. Lane on this process and she
was, again, quick to master the export and import processes, working with a network file share
and with the various forms of human intervention required to deal with anomalies in the
process. The third new task she took on was maintenance and troubleshooting for a variety of
our online courses in Blackboard. This was another new skill for Terry that she mastered
quickly. It also required that Terry update her HTML and graphics skills, which she has been able
to to.
Overall, I would describe Ms. Lane as motivated, courteous, extremely responsible and
excellent at follow-through. She works well independently and can be relied upon to complete
tasks ahead of schedule. Her technical skills have grown impressively, largely on her own
impetus, during her short tenure in the Technology Department and I have no doubt that they
will continue to do so. Terry has accomplished all this while pursing a degree at the university. A
feat that I have the utmost respect for.
On an interpersonal level, Terry collaborates well with other colleagues and brings a warm,
caring dynamic into the office. She treats others with respect and has strong customer service
skills. I amgoing to miss her in her office, both personally and professionally and feel confident
that she will be an asset to any future endeavor.
Sincerely,
