The European University of Tirana organized the first international conference on business modeling, information systems and enterprise optimization from July 13-14, 2011. The conference brought together experts from Albania and abroad to analyze topics related to business modeling and information systems. Some of the main topics discussed included sustainable waste management systems, evaluating website usability, digital business ecosystems, and optimizing efficiency in organizations. The two-day conference was well-attended by professionals and government representatives from Albania and universities from Turkey, Italy, Macedonia, the UK, USA, and Italy.

collaboration with the Centre for Applied Optimization (University of Florida) and High Performance
Computing and Networking (Institute of Italian National Research Council, Italy) organized the first
international conference on business modeling, information systems andenterprise optimization.

2. In this conference, initiated at EUT, participated many experts and professionals from Albania and abroad
who made a detailed analysis of business modeling and information systems. Some of the main topics
were: the Turkish case of sustainable waste management system and green logistic network design in
plastic industry; effective ways for evaluating usability of web sites; taxonomies of digital business
ecosystems; dynamic business models for complex industries; challenges and obstacles for the adoption
and utilization of ICT and e – commerce by the SME; approaches to build wireless sensors systems; some
models to optimize the efficiency of IT in organizations; cyber defense against Ddos attack; data mining
and knowledge discovery in dynamic networks; strategic information systems which need to be
incorporated into value chain of Albanian Higher education enterprises etc. The conference lasted two days
and gathered up well – known professionals and representatives by the Albanian government, businesses,
Albanian and foreign universities such as: Deputy / Minister of Innovation and technology of Information Mr.
