7. How To Secure Admission in B. Des and M. Des
Programmes by NIFT
Admission to the Bachelor and Masters of Design
Programmes are both through two written admission
tests:
◦ Creative Ability Test (CAT)
◦ General Ability Test (GAT)
The admission to other courses are by the GAT only.
8. Steps in NIFT Admission Test
There is an Entrance Test for NIFT every year.
The test has three stages:
◦ First there is a written test.
◦ Then the Situation Test for those who make it through the written
test
◦ Lastly the Personal Interview Round
9. When Are the NIFT Entrance Examinations to be held this
Year?
NIFT written exam for entrance to its UG and PG courses has been
held on February 12, 2017
The Situation Test / Group Discussion./ Personal Interview will be
held around April – May this year.
10. Pattern of Entrance Examination to NIFT
Phase I: General Ability Test – 100 Marks and Creative Ability Test
(CAT) – 100 marks
GAT comprises 150 objective questions that you need to answer in
2 hours
CAT has 3 to 4 questions that need to be answered in 3 hours
GAT tests the examinee’s ability to solve quantitative problems,
analytical reasoning problems, English communication and
comprehension and General Knowledge
11. Pattern of Entrance Examination to NIFT
CAT tests the student’s ability in design problem solving,
observation, perception etc.
Phase II: It consists of Situation Test of 2 hours duration.
The students are given materials to create a 3D model or a
handicraft.
