The Level 7 Diploma in Lean Fundamentals is a one-year practitioner program aimed at employees in operational, associate, or administrative roles, focusing on essential lean skills and knowledge. It includes a continuous improvement project that participants work on within their organizations, enhancing their learning through practical application. Undergraduate
The Diploma in Lean Fundamentals is a one year Level 7 programme (special purpose award) developed to
meet specified industry needs. It is aimed at operative, associate, or administrative level employees requiring
knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of lean. This Diploma is a practitioner programme, with participants
having diverse backgrounds and experiences and coming from a variety of organisations and sectors. Such
diversity enriches the overall education and learning experience for each participant. The innovative use of
work-based learning and an employer-based continuous improvement project enables practical application
of learning and skills acquired on the programme.

2. Diploma in Lean Fundamentals
Programme Outline
This practitioner programme is flexibly-delivered across three semesters, with the Applied Lean Organisation Project (ALOP) comprising 30 of the overall
60 Credits. The ALOP runs throughout the year and is an employer-based continuous improvement project enabling participants apply their lean
knowledge and skills to a work-related “problem”. This practical approach and engaging use of work-based learning ensures that the learning acquired
on the programme is realised and applied in real-time, providing concrete benefits to participants and their employer organisations.
Applications are invited from candidates on a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) basis wherein a candidate’s accredited (formal education) and/or
unaccredited (work experience) will be considered when assessing applications. In addition to meeting the minimum entry requirements, applicants:
•Must be nominated for the programme by their employers; and
•Must have a continuous improvement project from their employers to work on for the year; and
•Must have their employers assign them with an industry mentor for the year.

As members of WIT’s community of learning and practice in lean enterprise and operational excellence, participants will have the opportunity to attend a
number of activities throughout the year, including, the WIT School of Business Lean Practitioner Seminar Series, the Annual WIT School of Business Lean
Research Symposium, and the Annual WIT School of Business Lean Forum.
Entry Details
The minimum entry requirements for candidates to be accepted on the
programme are as follows:
i. Applicants should have a minimum Level 6 qualification, in any
discipline, along with a minimum of 1 year’s relevant industry
experience.
OR
Applicants who do not hold a Level 6 qualification may be considered
on the basis of a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application to a
Level 6 standard or equivalent provided they have a minimum of
1 year’s relevant industry experience.
ii. Applicants must be in employment in an organisation willing to
participate with the programme; and applicants must have an
assigned organisation “problem” approved by their employer that will
be the focus of the applicant’s ALOP; and applicants must have an
assigned industry mentor from within their employer organisation for
the duration of the programme.
