This document summarizes a discussion on a social media platform about whether the US should attack Iran. Several members express opposition to attacking Iran, arguing it could lead to wider war. One member states Iranians are arrogant but also notes "Allah Hates arrogance." Others note US foreign policy is influenced by industries and think tanks rather than politicians, and that nations can follow insane ideas and crumble. Most agree attacking Iran would be a mistake and make the US more enemies rather than friends around the world.

Saima Salman expresses concern over Americans celebrating Osama bin Laden's death while criticizing Muslims who celebrated after 9/11. She argues that justice is subjective and killing innocent people breeds more hatred. As someone originally from Pakistan who lived in New York during 9/11, she worries that continued U.S. drone strikes and killings in Muslim countries will create more orphaned children seeking revenge through terrorism against America. She calls on President Obama to acknowledge U.S. terrorism and stop harming human life, in order to significantly reduce anti-American sentiment.
Donald j. Trump a President like no other by Conrad BlackTheotis Davis
Conrad Black, bestselling author of Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Freedom and Richard M. Nixon: A Life in Full, turns his attention to his "friend" President Donald J. The document discusses the issue of sexual abuse in the United States military. It notes that approximately four in ten military women experience sexual abuse while enlisted. However, the military has done very little to address this problem and it remains largely underreported. This failure negatively impacts both current service members and veterans. Sexual abuse in the military can cause unique trauma for victims as they are often forced to continue serving alongside their abusers. It is also a leading cause of PTSD in veterans. If not addressed properly, sexual abuse will continue undermining the integrity of the military and deter future enlistment.

- Trump's 2016 victory was due to public frustration over issues like economic problems, illegal immigration, and being ignored by political elites. However, the analysis overlooks economic stagnation under previous administrations.
- If Trump loses, it will likely be by a narrow margin, and the Republican party will recover and win future elections. However, the author believes the Democrats' policies during the pandemic and on issues like crime and violence will lead to their defeat.

The US elections- the most awaited event of the year, is now out of the way. Red Meets Blue Left Rt Perspective On 2008 ElectionBennet Kelley
The document discusses predictions for the 2008 US election between Obama and McCain. It outlines ways each candidate could win based on polling in key states, and factors like voter turnout and demographics that favor Obama. Congressional predictions suggest Democrats will maintain control of both houses but may not expand majorities. The summary concludes by noting the difficulty of predicting elections and citing past inaccurate predictions.

The document summarizes several news articles and issues. It discusses tensions in US-Israel relations due to Prime Minister Netanyahu's upcoming speech to Congress. However, it notes that the US-Israel relationship is too important and intertwined to fail. It also criticizes a German study that trivialized anti-Semitism and accused Jewish groups of exaggerating anti-Semitism. Additionally, it discusses the UN Human Rights Council's disproportionate focus on condemning Israel compared to other countries.
This chapter discusses Richard Stallman's mother, Alice Lippman, and her influence on his progressive political views. It describes how she became politically active in the late 1950s in opposition to development projects in her neighborhood that displaced low-income residents. Her household openly opposed the Vietnam War. While Stallman admired his mother and father's activism, he was too timid to participate in protests. The chapter also discusses Stallman's academic success at Harvard in mathematics, though he avoided competitive exams and preferred solitary work.
The document discusses some of the key reasons why the North was ultimately victorious over the South in the American Civil War. The North had significant advantages in population, industry, transportation, and naval power. While the South had some advantages in generals and a defensive strategy, the North had greater resources and a united front around the goals of preserving the Union and abolishing slavery. Pivotal battles like Antietam and Gettysburg turned the tide in the North's favor, and the North's greater population and industrial capacity allowed it to wage a war of attrition that exhausted the South over time.
The Vietnam War took place from 1965-1975 and resulted in over 58,000 American deaths. Several key figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Tim O'Brien spoke out against the war due to the suffering of soldiers and civilians. John Lennon's song "Give Peace a Chance" called for an end to the fighting. Images from the war showed dead bodies and people fleeing explosions, highlighting the human cost of the conflict.
Temperance Lance-Council, an African American female presidential candidate, criticizes the media coverage given to Carly Fiorina compared to her own lack of coverage as a lesser known candidate. She argues that Fiorina benefited from white privilege in getting rules changed to include her in a debate after being excluded by initial rules. As the only differences between her and Fiorina are race and financial resources, Lance-Council believes she deserves equal opportunity to share her message and solutions for issues like the economy and inner cities. She has filed complaints about lack of inclusion of disenfranchised candidates and hopes the media will give a voice to outsider candidates beyond rich white males.

Donald Trump's incredibly unpresidential statement on CharlottesvilleAlicia Garcia
- A white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, VA turned violent, resulting in one death and 19 injuries after a car rammed into counter-protesters.
- President Trump condemned the violence "on many sides" but failed to single out the white supremacists. His statement was criticized for not being strong enough against intolerance and hatred.
- The article analyzes Trump's statement and argues he should have clearly condemned the white supremacists and brought the country together instead of listing his own accomplishments.
Senator Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States, becoming the first African American to hold that office. He defeated Republican Senator John McCain in a decisive victory. Obama's message of change and hope resonated with voters and helped drive record turnout. Democrats also expanded their control of Congress, gaining additional seats in both the House and Senate. Obama will take office facing enormous challenges, including reviving the struggling economy and ending the war in Iraq, but his victory represented a historic transformation and increasing acceptance of racial diversity in America.
After bush, the case for continuity in american foreign policyMalath Alagha
This document discusses a book that argues for continuity in American foreign policy after George W. Bush leaves office. The authors contend that key aspects of Bush's foreign policy approach, known as the Bush Doctrine, will continue under new presidents due to forces within the international system and American politics. Specifically, they predict that successors will continue pursuing the war on terror with similar dedication as Bush. The book draws parallels between Bush and Harry Truman, noting both presidents faced unpopularity by the end of their terms but their foreign policy approaches endured beyond their presidencies.
The document discusses the resistance to President Donald Trump's actions and statements from various American institutions. It discusses:
- How the judiciary halted Trump's immigration restrictions and mayors are removing Confederate statues in response to Trump's comments on white supremacists in Charlottesville.
- Top American CEOs resigned from Trump's business councils in response to his comments, showing a schism between Trump and the business community.
- Mainstream American media has continued reporting critically on Trump despite his attacks, and even Rupert Murdoch's New York Post has been critical of Trump's stance.
- Many see these actions as part of an ongoing fightback against attempts to divide America and undermine its democratic norms and institutions.

While the battalion performed well, it must be remembered that it faced inferior Indian border police rather than other army units.
This document summarizes the performance of the 9 Punjab battalion during the 1965 war with India. The battalion was part of the 12th Division of the Pakistan Army and was tasked with capturing the town of Chhamb. Despite having significant superiority in tanks and artillery, the 12th Division failed to cross the Tawi River on the first day. The 9th Punjab battalion suffered 15 killed and 31 wounded but managed to form a bridgehead across the Tawi. After the war, the battalion was praised for its performance and received several awards, though its strategic impact was limited due to the overall failure of Operation Grand Slam.
The battalion was deployed as a guard battalion but parts saw action in 1965 war including C Company commanded by Major Anis. C Company withdrew from its position exposing the rear of 16 Punjab to Indian attack, effectively sealing 16 Punjab's fate. C Company's withdrawal doomed 16 Punjab and was described as cowardly and the cause of 16 Punjab's debacle. While most of 8 Punjab saw no action, C Company under Major Anis performed poorly and was to blame for 16 Punjab's defeat.
1) The battalion was deployed as part of 11 Division along the Ravi-Sutlej Corridor according to maps.
2) The battalion faced a brigade-level attack from the Indian army using three infantry battalions and a tank squadron.
3) A captain from the Pakistani artillery played a crucial role by engaging the attacking forces with 60 medium shells, repulsing the Indian attack.
The battalion was deployed in September 1965 as part of Operation Grand Slam, relieving the 13th Punjab battalion near Dalpat-Chak Kirpal. According to Brigadier Rizvi, the battalion attacked towards Fatwal along with 13 Lancers, advancing up to 6 miles near Kasur and suffering 9 killed and 21 wounded. However, records list the battalion as losing either 9, 11, or 10 killed. The battalion had little impact as it joined the war late when the focus had shifted, and did not receive any awards despite actions in the Rann of Kutch prior to the war.
NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT OF FOOT IN 1857-59 BATTLESAgha A
This document provides biographical and career details of Major Agha.H.Amin, who was commissioned in the old PAVO Cavalry in March 1983. It discusses his education, various military and civilian positions held over his career, publications authored, and contact information. The document also briefly describes a study aid about British infantry battalions that participated in the battles of 1857-59 in India, including their roles, operations, casualties, and contributions to the outcome of the war.
The 2nd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment fought in the 1965 war against India. While it received several gallantry awards, the document argues that its role was exaggerated and it did not actually face most of the major Indian attacks. Only one company saw direct fighting on the first day, and it dispersed against heavy odds. The battalion was deployed away from the main sites of battle and did not face significant enemy forces apart from this initial engagement. Its impact on the decisive Battle of Chawinda was marginal.
This document provides information about Major Agha.H.Amin, including his military and civilian career experiences. It notes that he was commissioned in the old PAVO Cavalry in March 1983, attended Saint Marys Academy Lalazar and Forman Christian College Lahore, and served in various command, staff, research, logistics and instructional positions in the military. It also lists some of his civilian career projects and publications. The document provides his contact email addresses.

The 4th Punjab Infantry battalion arrived in Calcutta in November 1857, meaning it missed the decisive battles of the war, including the siege of Delhi and the relief and evacuation of Lucknow. The battalion's participation in the battle of Cawnpore was minimal and it suffered no casualties. The battalion played a significant role in the final assault on Lucknow in March 1858, leading the assault on Martiniere with the 4th Punjab Infantry while the 42nd Highlanders and 90th Foot attacked frontally. The British enjoyed overwhelming artillery superiority, evidenced by the 42nd Highlanders suffering only 10 fatal casualties over 10 days of operations culminating in the final capture of Lucknow.

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
Global Situational Awareness of A.I. and where its headedvikram sood
You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
Let me tell you what we see.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a multidisciplinary field of science and engineering whose goal is to create intelligent machines.
We believe that AI will be a force multiplier on technological progress in our increasingly digital, data-driven world. This is because everything around us today, ranging from culture to consumer products, is a product of intelligence.
The State of AI Report is now in its sixth year. Consider this report as a compilation of the most interesting things we’ve seen with a goal of triggering an informed conversation about the state of AI and its implication for the future.
We consider the following key dimensions in our report:
Research: Technology breakthroughs and their capabilities.
Industry: Areas of commercial application for AI and its business impact.
Politics: Regulation of AI, its economic implications and the evolving geopolitics of AI.
Safety: Identifying and mitigating catastrophic risks that highly-capable future AI systems could pose to us.
Predictions: What we believe will happen in the next 12 months and a 2022 performance review to keep us honest.

ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.

stabilize our relations with the region. We have seen since the 2bd world war
that American can not win the war or reslove any conflict in any region without
the help of local leadership and winning the heart and minds of local people.
USA needs Iran by all means necessary. When the Republican and their

A HafIZ The only way, the American can save America by electing Bernie
Sanders as our next President of the united States of America? Republican is
piece of shit and had not produced a single candidates who focus on the internal
public issues. Why the foreign policy is considered by Republican to always go to
war? Because, it is easy money getter overnight at the cost of public. In Iraq
war, by Chaney and associates and black water where is looting money, Gold
and Diamonds and other's lucrative items from the common citizens and after
looting, killing their whole families in order to destroy evidence of stealing and
looting the foreign assets. Are these sole reasons that Republican focus reasons
5. to wage wars against innocent citizens, first creating the dectators and kept
their citizens hostages under their dictatorship than creating a reasons against
the same dectators to wage a war against their innocent citizens is a ludicrous.
How American be liked by foreign countries to make any friend instead of all
enemies through the world. Creating and using NATO and using them where
ever warmonger wants to initiate war to promote wars and serk family and
friends interests at the cost of public where public suffers negative externalities
inside their country. America desperately needs a leader like Bernie Sanders to

that we should attack Iran. I don't even know where to start. 1) Iran is NOT an
ally of the U.S., including in the war on Terror. 2) Bernie Sanders (who has no
shot at the White House anyway) is for policies that would cripple our economy,
gut our military, and expose U.S. citizens to grave, grave danger.
Here is a good analogy for the Clinton/Trump race: U.S. citizens are looking at

being force-fed the poison. What do you do? Show less

James Coleman There are a lot of thoughtful, reasoned assessments on
whether or not to attack Iran. However, this isn’t one that requires thought. Sen.
Tom Cotton (R-AR) was paid a lot of money by ECI (Bill Kristol’s group) to get this
done. We’re going in. Reading Reuters, BBC, or whatever was on my thread,
during the P5+1, to a man or woman, Laurent Fabius (France), Frank-Walter
Steinmeier (Germany), Federica Mogherini (Italy) and Phillip Hammond (Great
Britain) fully understood that November 8, 2016 was an important date. The
Establishment has made it clear that it wants this. One of the reasons Donald J.
Trump is receiving some resistance is they think he might not give them Iran.
But they’re trying. The same players are trying to wedge their way in, i.e., Dan
Senor, Reuel Marc Gehrecht, Jamie Fly, Paul Wolfowitz, etc.—Iran is really the
only game in town. Inspections, “WMDs”, “Mushroom Cloud”, “Yellow Cake”,
