1. Ti Alloy Application in Aerospace

2. Titanium and its alloys are widely used in aerospace and aerospace
applications. As the speed of aircraft and missiles has increased far
beyond the speed of sound, where the use of aluminum alloy, because of
its heat resistance requirements, has not adapted, so the use of new
materials, especially titanium and its alloys instead. Titanium density is
small, but also has a high thermal strength and lasting strength, in the
vibration load and impact load under the crack propagation sensitivity is
low, and has good corrosion resistance. So in the engine and shell
structure is preferred to use high-strength titanium and titanium alloy. US
high-altitude supersonic reconnaissance aircraft SR-71 is an early
application example (Figure 1), the 20th century, 60-generation SR-71
with titanium content of 93% of body mass, and the first use of β titanium
alloy.

3. The main application of titanium on aircraft is the engine, with titanium
depending on its size and power. The subsonic engine achieves 30% of its
mass and the engine weighs about 600kg. Titanium alloys are mainly
manufactured for forgings and plate structures for compressors. As in the
Pratt & Whitney J57 (Figure 2) engine, Ti-6Al-4V made 9
pre-compressor blades and impeller discs, Ti-5Al-2.5Sn board
manufacturing isolation ring and shell pieces. Since then, the United
States Pratt & Whitney and the European company has made a lot of
titanium alloy engine, such as Luo - Luo AVON engine 9 ~ 12
compressor impeller and leaves. There are 11 stators and 10 rotors in the
Olympus-593 engine for Concorde aircraft made of titanium alloy and the
first grade is made of Ti-6Al-4V and the other grades are manufactured
from Ti-6Al-5Zr-0.5Mo-0.2Si The Figure 3 is a Svenska aircraft with
post-burner improved Pratt & Whitney RM8 engine parts, compressor
disc and low pressure compressor blade with Ti-6Al-4V manufacturing,
high pressure compressor blade with Ti-8Al-1Mo-1V manufacturing ,
Isolation ring and engine commutation parts made of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn and
industrial pure titanium. The new generation of F-22 fighters F199 engine
(Figure 4) not only made with titanium alloy blades, and the engine
casing, afterburner cylinder and tail nozzle also used the newly developed
flame-retardant titanium alloy AlloyC.

4. The relationship between air inlet and outlet temperature and flight
