Thucydides was an Athenian historian who wrote about the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta from 431 to 404 BC. He aimed to provide a scientific analysis of the war and its causes through collecting numerous sources and eyewitness accounts. While including set speeches, he acknowledged limitations in accurately recording words. Thucydides analyzed military and political events and their impacts through both evidence and his own judgments and interpretations of history.
