Alexander Von Humboldt established relationships between temperature, altitude, vegetation and agriculture through field studies in America. He accurately recorded latitudes and longitudes. Carl Ritter believed in unity in diversity and used a regional approach to geography rather than systematic studies. He saw races as defined by skin color and continents and viewed regional geography as evidence of God's plan.
