Presentation on construction collaboration technologies given to Collaboration Cafe symposium at Building Centre, London on 30 March 2010. Covers web-based tools for collaboration, the changing IT landscape (eg: looming changes of BIM, mobile computing, Web 2.0) and some of the people and process issues.
Dassault Systemes is at the forefront of using 3D modeling and simulation to transform industries and help solve problems through sustainable innovation. Their 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows companies to digitally design, test, and simulate products and processes. Dassault is working with partners and cities like Singapore to create "digital twins" that can be used to model and test urban planning decisions. They are also exploring applications in healthcare through multi-scale modeling of the human body. Partnerships are core to Dassault's approach to drive innovation, and they aim to balance legal processes with agility to enable collaboration at a global scale.
This document discusses meaningful connected products and how they have transformed from being purely functional to also being emotional. It mentions examples like the B&O MC40 speaker and "furby" as products that achieved this transformation. The document also discusses the importance of understanding the context of use, both temporally and through empathy, when designing meaningful connected products. It proposes a process for designing (eco)systems that involves analyzing contexts, identifying actors, creating and specifying actor networks, and defining outcomes.

This document summarizes an interview between Jan Groenefeld, a UX designer, and Dr. Samuel Reimer of Ottobock regarding exoskeleton technology. Dr. Reimer explains that Ottobock focuses on passive exoskeletons that provide support without increasing strength. He discusses how they aim to maximize support while minimizing weight and movement restrictions. Dr. Reimer also emphasizes the importance of user needs and acceptance, and states that Ottobock closely involves users in testing and development. Finally, he expresses optimism about the future as exoskeletons incorporate more sensors and connectivity to provide additional data and insights.

CEO Henshall on Citrix’s 30-Year Journey to Make Workers Productive, IT Stron...Dana Gardner
Citrix has pioneered ways to make workers more productive for 30 years by enabling remote access to applications before cloud computing existed. Now, Citrix is charting a new future of work that focuses on abstracting productivity above apps, platforms, data and clouds. The goal is to empower, energize and enlighten workers while simplifying and securing anywhere work. Citrix collects data from across clients, applications, files and networks to gain insights using AI/ML that can automate tasks and anticipate needs to guide work and simplify workflows. This positions Citrix to inject intelligence into work and help change how people get their jobs done.

24 Hours of UX, 2023: Preventing the FutureJoshua Randall
On our current trajectory, the future of UX design will look much like the present, only worse. The gold rush mentality towards UX design as a “career” combined with Gresham’s Law (“bad money drives out good”) applied to design combined with automation from software platforms means we are increasing the pace at which bad designs proliferate. In this talk Joshua Randall will cite data from larger research companies like Baymard and Nielsen Norman Group as well as draw on examples from his career to paint a picture of the coming dystopia.
The People Pillar of Cloud Adoption: Developing Your Workforce & Building Dig...Amazon Web Services
A successful cloud-transformation journey incorporates three pillars: people, process, and technology. Far too often, organisations focus on process improvements and technology implementation, but ignore the human aspect. Many leaders acknowledge that the first two are easy to modify, while influencing culture is more difficult. This session covers best-practice methods meant to empower customers to address this challenge. Learn about roles and responsibilities germane to the transition and post-cloud adoption phase. Assess your organisation’s gaps among the requisite skills and competencies, build effective training models, and shape an effective DevOps culture.

Service Design vs Experience Design: Chicken & Egg or Wild GooseBen Melbourne
Experience design (XD) focuses on the quality of the user experience and culturally relevant solutions, with less emphasis on functionality. Service design plans and organizes all aspects of a service to improve quality and the customer experience. Some argue that service designers can only set the stage for customer experiences but cannot design the experience itself. There is a blurring distinction between products and services as products become more connected, and the role of a user experience designer in service design is an emerging area.

Code Freeze 2018: There is no such thing as a microservice!Chris Richardson
This is a talk I gave at Code Freeze 2018:
The microservice architecture is becoming increasingly popular. However, frequent references to using “a microservice to solve a problem” suggest that the concept is not universally well understood. In this talk, I define the microservice architecture as an architectural style and explain what that actually means. I also describe how the primary goal of the microservice architecture is to enable continuous delivery and deployment, and how it achieves that. You will learn why the architecture that you pick for your application matters. And you will learn how to solve key challenges with decomposing an application into microservices. This talk explains why there is no such thing as a microservice!

19. PRACTICE EXERCISE 2
Think of your own experience through public transportation.
What are all the things you noticed? What sort of arrangements
were they in? Model this arrangements to form pairs. They join all
these pairs to visualize the larger configuration.
24. That was quick!
Notice how with just a few
rules you were able to quickly
model a complex system?
How easy was it to build on
each others’ configurations?
29. A complex system that works is invariably
found to have evolved from a simple
system that worked.
A complex system designed from scratch
never works and cannot be patched up to
make it work. You have to start over with a
working simple system.
