Running Head: CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY
1
CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three basic theories of sociology. The three basic
theories of sociology are functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These theories are
studied on the micro or macro level. The micro level is the sum of interactions between people
and groups. The micro level analysis is based on small groups and individuals versus the macro
level which is viewed on a larger scale and looks at society as a whole. In the functional theory
members of society share a common interest of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the
conflict theory there is a constant struggle between resources and ... Show more content on

One change or shift in society can either make optimal opportunities to the community or create
the start of a downward spiral. I have found that all three theories are based on society and how
an individual person or a group of people acts or behaves greatly affects each of these theories. It
is amazing the amount of changes that a person can go through by having to deal with social
changes.
Lastly, in order to explain which theory best describes our social reality we need to define what
social reality means. Social reality is basically created through social interactions, individual
motives, and actions. It is a little difficult for me to choose one theory that relates to our social
reality that we live in today. I feel that we could easily fall under each theory depending on the
circumstances. The functionalist theory is made up of different parts that all work together like a
puzzle to build stability or a strong foundation. This theory involves

families and large communities that have a strong bond formed to support one another. We must
support and invest in our schools and churches to make a difference in our community. If we lose
our church due to lack of finances then our community could lose its faith. The conflict theory is
generally when there is a struggle for resources. Let s face it, today we as a society are struggling
with obtaining resources needed as the

Representation Of Women By Bryan Singers
The Representation of Women in Bryan Singers X Men
Draft Two
Bryan Singers X Men (2000) was the first Hollywood superhero blockbuster made from a
Marvel comic book. The film is rated 7.4 out of ten on the International Movie Database (IMDb),
and has a 82% score by critics and a 83% score by audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is
based off the Marvel comic book by the same name and features a team of people with special
powers fight to save the world. the first X Men comic was published in 1963 and featured five
original X Men, including one female; Marvel Girl (a.k.a. Jean Grey), the other four are male.

The X Men movie franchise is based off the popular Marvel comic of the same name; This means
that the narratives in the movie franchise are adapted from the narratives of the comic books;
something Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) discuss while discussing Prater s (2012) view;
they say Based on comics from the 1960s and 70s, Prater argues that the more recent films
disempower the female X men, while trying to claim an alibi for this sexist representation.
It is an interesting view, highlighting how passive the audience becomes to hegemonic beliefs in a
movie if the story happens to be adapted from a comic that was written roughly 40 years earlier.
What Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) were stating, about the X Men film franchise, also
applies to the expanded universe of comic books. Hulshof Schmidt (2008) talks about story arcs in
comic that have a negative effect on the super heroines. Hulshof Schmidt (2008) talks about the
1980 s story arc within the X Men comic book series. The story involves a female superhero who
suffers a traumatic experience when she is possessed by a telepath, an experience which he
(Hulshof Schmidt, 2008) sates is an unfortunate tendency of the comics industry to run their female
characters through excessive turmoil.

Suicide In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
Arthur Miller is a man of many words and many plays alike. More often than not, Miller likes to
focus on topics that are fairly controversial and have an underlying political agenda or concept.
In 1949 when Death of a Salesman hit Broadway, it was very popular and it was also very
controversial. This is mainly for the openness of the events that occur throughout the plot, but
focusing solely on the suicide, a topic that was much more sensitive in the 1950 s than it is in
today s society. Arthur Miller was born in Harlem and lived a long life until the age of eighty nine
years old, in which he married the famous idol of many young girls in modern society, Marilyn
Monroe. While Miller s career started rocky with a few of his early plays, he eventually... Show

Instead of getting to Howard and calmly discussing the possibility of remaining in New York for
business, a fight ensues between the two. Things get heated as Howard repeatedly explains that
there is not room for Willy in New York. Willy is very offended as Howard s father and Howard
have both previously promised him an opportunity for a job in the city, something that is not
being held up. Howard then leaves Willy in the room to calm down and Willy tinkers with
Howards recording machine, a new favorite of Howard s. Willy then messes it up and causes a
great fit to which Howard quickly returns to asses. After a while more of bickering, Howard
finally admits that he is ready for Willy to be removed from the business. He states that he has
wished for Howard to be done for a long while but was not ready to admit it. This event pushed
Howard to the point of finally firing Willy, something that will permanently damage Willy. After
this, he goes and sees his boys at dinner, and the events only get worse and lead into the next major
event. When Willy is fired, he pushed even deeper in the depression that is often hinted at
throughout the story. He hopes that when he sees Biff and Happy that they will at least have good
news, yet they don t, only furthering disappointing the man. Willy is truly hurt at this point because

Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary
Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames
the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in
the dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism
between the Serbsand Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs
claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure
Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their
nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian
crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy
(1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia
through military force. With regard to Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their
ground against Milosevic and declared independence in 1991. While... Show more content on

Similar to when Hitler took over Europe, the surrounding states of Yugoslavia put forth little
military effort to assist the republics that were under siege. What Percy (1995) fully fails to
mention is that the Yugoslavian republics did not have the military capabilities to defend their
own states; regardless of it was against Milosevic or another outside force and was only amplified
when outside states provided no military backup (Baylis, Smith, Owens, 2014). Thus, it was
relatively easy for one party, with federal force and of one ethnicity, to come in and take over.
Additionally, without nationalism in the way, the Yugoslavian republics would have been able to
come together and develop their military force on a state and federal

November 11, 2016 Island: poetry and history of Chinese immigrants on Angel Island
Chinese immigration to the United States began in large number during the California Gold Rush.
Many people came to the country hoping to find jobs and fortune for themselves and their families
back in China. Among those immigrants many stayed in the country and others went back to China.
The point of entry for these Chinese immigrants to California between 1910 and 1940 was the
Angles Island in San Francisco. The Island was like that of the Ellis Island in New York. These
islands were the immigration detention headquarters for the immigrants waiting on their medical
examinations and immigration papers. It was also the holding ground for deportees awaiting
transportation back to the mother land.
Island: poetry and history of Chinese immigrants on Angel Island, by Him Mark Lai is a collection
of the poems that was restored from the walls and barracks of the Angles Island. The author had
selected the sixty nine poems which were classified into different categories to show the history of
the immigration. The five section are The Voyage, The Detainment, The Weak Shall Conquer, The
Westerners, Deportees, Transients. Each of these sections includes the restored poems found in the
barrack and the oral histories from peoples who spend their time in the Island, Immigration
Interpreters, Immigration Inspectors.

Examples Of What Are The Strengths Of The Sirens
The Sirens are beautiful and magical creatures. They have many abilities and have experienced
many things. The Sirens have plenty of strengths, and have faced many conflicts. They also use
their strengths to attract their prey. The Sirens have many strengths. They have the ability to use a
singing spell to attract any man within earshot to the Sirens. Once the man has reached them, they
make the man think they are extremely attractive, and then eat the man while he is vulnerable.
This shows that the Sirens have great power over any man. The Sirens also have experience in
conflict. The Sirens fight against the man s will to resist the Sirens magical song. They fought
against Odysseus s idea of using ear wax so his men were unable

Color Morphism Lab Report
Sexual selection and genetic color polymorphisms in animals Introduction: Genetic color
polymorphism is an ideal model system, which can be used to study evolutionary stages for
numerous reasons. First, high heritability can be shown from genetic basis that color morphs
provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide visual markers and can be seen in isolated
individuals when observing selection in the wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype
frequencies can be detected easily and derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time.
There have been numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to
study evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to strong

Such effect will enhance the heterozygote disadvantage and promote stable polymorphism
emergence as recessive alleles being masked in the process. Genomic architectures tend to favor
speciation by either eliminating or reducing recombination between traits that are correlated with
reproductive isolation. Such changes in recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy,
which result in magic traits. Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive
isolation and ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as
a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across multiple consecutive
generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain population, such as: physiology and
behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the population s morph sequences by fitness consistency.
Natural and sexual selection can work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this
study shows the tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process
especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. As a result, the target population will
experience a stronger evolutionary pressure when the two selections (natural and sexual) work in

Childhood onset usually begins before the age or ten years and is associated with ongoing
problems in adulthood(5). On the other hand, if the disorder begins in adolescence, there are more
positive outcomes when treated. These individuals usually do not display anti social personality
traits in adulthood. In addition the male female ratio is lower than the childhood type. Lastly, the
people with adolescent onset type have more normal peer relationships(4).
One closely related disorder to conduct disorder is oppositional defiant disorder. This is a disorder
usually seen in children younger than 10 years. It is characterized by a pattern of frequent
uncooperative hostile behavior towards authority figures. It is manifested by frequent temper
tantrums, excessive arguing, active defiance, deliberate attempts to annoy others, blaming others,
frequent anger and resentment, mean and hateful talking, and revenge seeking(6). While these
symptoms are part of normal development of two and three year olds they become part of a
diagnosable disorder when they interfere with the normal development of the child. This disorder is
often a precursor to conduct disorder especially the childhood onset type(4).
While the picture may seem bleak for those children and adolescents diagnosed with conduct
disorder, this is not necessarily the case. Less than 50% of cases are diagnosed with antisocial
personality disorder later in

The Enlightenment Era, And The Romantic Era
The styles we call High Renaissance, Baroque style, Scientific Reformation, The Enlightenment
Era, and The Romantic Era are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the
Protestant Reformation s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church.
Martin Luther, son of a rural coal miner had a mass impact in all these eras but Scientific
Reformation was more prominent than the rest. Luther was a German monk and Professor of
Theology at the University of Wittenberg. Luther s studies were put on hold by a political crisis in
Augustinians. He found himself agitated due to the corruption and lack of spirituality he saw in
Rome. He saw openly corrupt priests who would taunt the rituals of their faith. Luther sparked the
Reformation in 1517 by posting his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg,
Germany. The 95 theses were a list of statements which expressed Luther s concerns about many
Church practices. These Theses traveled around Europe. He felt in a manner, that the church was
not always right. He did not believe that the Pope was spiritual heir to Saint peter. The Church
known now as the Roman Catholic Churchwas very powerful politically and spiritually in Western
Europe. I believed that Martin Luther Help spark the Scientific Era was due to the fact when he
mad the 95Theses people began to second guess themselves. People began to have changes in
thought belief. I feel that many people gave up hope in the

Herbert Hoover s Contributions
Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack
while battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and
typhoid fever and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the
rest of their childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or
form foreshadow his future.
For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years
until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon.
Hoover was able to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in
California. While attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who
majored in geology as well. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college
Hoover worked in the gold mines of Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore
carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and
evaluated mines available for purchase for potential buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of
job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to start his own consulting business that
opened its doors in 1904.
Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover
learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of
diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for
public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hooverin the
forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted
Hoover and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe.
Hoover and many of his wealthy friends came together and created the Committee for the Relief of
Belgium, after Germany s brutal invasion of Belgium. Hoover successful pulled this off without
any government help; he was able to gain several millions of dollars to supply Belgians with much
needed medicine and food. Hoover ran the U.S. Food Administration at the request of President

Japan was a nation of ancient traditions and little contact with the Western world until the late
1800 s. Japan began trade with America and other nations due to visits from Commodore Perry
and American warships in the late 1850 s. In the years that followed, Japan took big steps
toward being a modern industrial nation. Japan was a strong nation by the 1920 30 s but lacked
its own natural resources. Japan looked to nearby countries like Korea and China for the majority
of their products however Japan s plan for East Asia conflicted with American plans especially for

Julian Bream Analysis
have a Julian Bream quote I keep close to my heart. I like it best edited, the way my clarinet
teacher first introduced it to me: I practice more than ever...mostly scales and arpeggios...and
anything I can t do . If I had come across this quote several years ago, I would have likely dismissed
it without so much as a second glance, instantly repulsed by the words scales and arpeggios . But
when I first saw the quote, I was not quite so repelled.
This is strange because I used to despise playing the clarinet, when I was younger, as it seemed
the only sound I could manage to produce was a squeak, ranging unpredictably from an airy hiss to
a deafening, shrill cry. But somewhere along the way, I developed an appreciation for those
squeaks, which, with time, transformed into warmer, more refined tones. ... Show more content on

The changes were subtle yet inexplicably complex. The clarinet, previously an instrument that

playful, sometimes calm, sometimes impassioned, dreamy or melancholic, like the weakened echo
of an echo, is like the indistinct plaintiff moans of the breeze in the woods. There doesn t exist
another musical instrument I know of that possesses this strange resonance.
Similarly, the music room, previously a place I didn t particularly enjoy being in, quickly became

Comparing The Seneca Falls Convention And The Declaration...
Throughout history, courageous people have stood up and worked hard to bring people together
and make change. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott are the two women who were brave
enough to stand up in front of the crowd and fight for what they believed in. By holding the Seneca
Falls Convention and drafting the Declaration of Sentiments they highlighted the issues that needed
to change. This is recognized as the beginning of the women s rights movement.
The early 19th century in the United States was a period of many social upheavals and reforms
including women s rights. The women s rights movement in the United States began with a
convention held at the Wesleyan Church chapel located in Seneca Falls, New York, which became
known as the Seneca Falls Convention. Approximately 200 people, men and women, attended;
many of them were already activists in various movements. During the convention the Declaration
of Sentiments and Resolutions was created and presented. This document defined the rights that
both men and women should have. This eventually led to women s right to vote, own property and

Lyndon B Johnson Accomplishments
Lyndon B. Johnson had only served one term, but he surprisingly accomplished a lot during his
only term. Johnson had the ability to pass the acts that Kennedy created during his time in
office. Some of these accomplishments include: Medicare and Medicaid, Education acts, and the
Civil Rights acts. In order to continue his war on poverty, he established Medicare and Medicaid
to aid poor families and the elderly. To further help families in need, as well as children, Johnson
passed education acts to fix and create more public schools in poor areas. Lastly, civil rights acts
were passed to give better opportunities for blacks within the United States. While these acts were

The Medicare and Medicaid federal programs were put in place as a way to help the less
fortunate. Individuals with severe disabilities or over the age of 65 qualify for Medicare. This
program helps them with health coverage, so the disabled and elderly who have Medicare do
not have to worry about their medical bills and not going to the hospital when they are sick.
Medicaid is a similar program, however, it only applies to low income families who cannot
provide for their children. Similar to Medicare, this program covers any health related problems
and takes away the worry and troubles that come with hospital bills.
Continuing his war on poverty, Johnson passed numerous education bills and acts. The Higher
Education Act of 1965 has had great impact on the American education system. In addition to
helping low income students, this program created scholarships, which created more opportunities
for students living in poverty. The Bilingual Education act of 1968 created a pathway for equal
education for students who could speak little to no English. While it didn t do much, the

The Pros And Cons Of The Woolly Mammoth
Biology Issues Investigations: Should we bring back the woolly mammoth from extinction? Or
should we not tamper with the past and leave things how they are?
Why do humans go to such extents to protect endangered species? The same questioning applies to
species brought back from extinction; it is to preserve biodiversity, to restore deserted and
destroyed ecosystems, to advance the science of preventing extinctions, and to undo harm that
humans have caused in the past.
Additionally, the prospect of resurrection is profound news. That something as irreversible and final
as extinction might be reversed is an astonishing realization. The imagination spirals does it not?
Just the thought of mammoths wandering the alive the wilderness again invokes the awe and
wonder that drives all conservation at its deepest level.
Woolly Mammoths were the dominant herbivore of the mammoth steppe in the far north, once the
largest biomes on Earth. In their absence, the grasslands they helped sustain were replaced by
species poor tundra and boreal forest. Their return to the north would bring back carbon fixing grass
and reduce greenhouse gas releasing tundra, which would be an extremely helpful and positive
environmental impact. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mark Twain s Influence on American Literature Essay examples
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by the pseudonym Mark Twain, has been central to
American literature for over a century. His seemingly effortless diction accurately exemplified
America s southern culture. From his early experiences in journalism to his most famous fictional
works, Twain has remained relevant to American writing as well as pop culture. His iconic works
are timeless and have given inspiration the youth of America for decades. He distanced himself
from formal writing and became one of the most celebrated humorists. Mark Twains use of the
common vernacular set him apart from authors of his era giving his readers a sense of familiarity
and emotional connection to his characters and himself.

He was one of the first to descriptively verbalize southern speech in writing. Not only was it
uncommon for people of Twain s era to write in vernacular, it was new fangled for him to write
about the subject of vernacular itself. It is a difficult task to write about, much less in, a dialect to
which one is foreign without appearing foolish. Twain s ability to both with ease marked him as an
authority on the subject.
Thus, Twain s early experiences in life helped him to flesh out a well rounded vocabulary and
sparked his interests in adventure and traveling. Twain spent his boyhood in the riverside town
of Hannibal, Missouri where he, experienced the excitement of the colorful steamboats that
docked at the town wharf, bringing comedians, singers, gamblers, swindlers, slave dealers, and
assorted other river travelers (Gribben). His exposure to much of the world at a young age
opened his eyes to people groups, travel, and differences in dialect that would all become subject
matter of his later writing. Twain wrote in Life on the Mississippi that he became acquainted with
all the different types of human nature that are to be found in fiction, biography, or history while
he worked as a steamboat apprentice (128). The diverse people and places he met during his time
on the river all became awe inspiring to him and served as the foundation for his works to come.

Buying Renting Your Vacant Home
To Rent or Sell Your Vacant Home
Have you ever thought whether it would be better to rent or sell a vacant home that you own?
Maybe you already have someone renting the home, or you have been considering renting it out to
tenants, but would that really be the better choice? Deciding whether or not to sell or rent your
vacant home is an incredibly big decision that requires a lot of thought. Therefore, you should
always look at the pros and cons of selling or renting your vacant home.
The Main Reason to Sell Your Home
Before you can look at the pros and cons of selling your home instead of renting it out, it s
important to look the main reason as to why you should sell your home. If the following reason is

If they believe that the value is not going to go up anytime soon, or at all, it s best to sell your
vacant home as soon as you can.
By going with a real estate agent to sell your vacant home, the process will go a lot more
smoothly when compared to doing it by yourself, especially if you need to sell it within a short
period of time. They will help you and tell you what to do when it comes to preparing the home,
like referring you to a plumber or an electrician to have them come in and do a walk through to
ensure everything is in order.
They will also give you advice when it comes to whether or not you should stage the home, or just
leave it empty of furniture, if you currently do not have any in there. Your real estate agent will also
guide you through the selling price, meeting with potential buyers, going over the negotiation
process, and finalizing the sale. However, if you would like them to handle the meeting with
buyers, negotiations, and closing the deal, you can sit out of these parts completely.
Although, if you are still unsure whether or not you want to sell or rent your vacant home, or you
re willing to take the chance in a neighborhood that is losing some of it s value, then the pros and
cons below will help you to decide on your final decision.

Reflection On Dirac Theory
After the Shanghai trip, I felt charged and refreshed ready to tackle the most important project
in my life. While I buried myself in a deep pile of monographs related to quantum field theory
and Dirac Theory, Ying, on the other hand, worked on a more practical front. After several
months hard work, he was able to tie things together and ready to go on with the most critical
stage in his program to perform the experiment. I hope my balance will push the measurement of

I can show you how my balance works. I was almost as excited as Ying was. But the moment of
truth was yet to come, as he performed the experiment. After that, computations, calibrations of
the result would tell if the project was a success or a failure. Anxiety in our works took over our

Tokugawa Traditions
Tradition played a huge role in shaping Japanese history during the Tokugawa period from 1603

kinds of things taught in education in Japan. Many traditional Japanese also still live in the same

warriors of Japan.
There were many different classes of warriors in Japan from the samurai, to the warrior Buddhist

Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism
As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s
Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is
existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and
experiences, this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and
interpretation of his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German
occupation, Existentialismis a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where
questions about morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any
many other) people. Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre
s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartres work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the
coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to
Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to
clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist,
Catholic, and Christian detractors.
Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism,
the first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker
of Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept

One way Cowslip s warren differs from Sandleford and Hazel s warren is that it is perceived as a

In The TГЎin and the MahДЃbhДЃrata, brothers slaughter and mourn over brothers, parents are
separated from their children, and husbands and wives quarrel and grow apart; the ideals of these
epics seem to suggest that avoiding desires and violence will resolve such familial conflict.
However, it is difficult to generalize from these dramatic epics since they do not necessarily resolve
conflicts within families or settle disputes realistically. Nonetheless, the texts offer explanations as
to why dysfunctional relationships exist, in that The TГЎin points to materialistic desires as the

Foreign Policy-Making Process Model
1. Invent your own model Current system of the US foreign policy decision making process is
best defined by Hilsman s model. My model aims to offer a different approach to the existing
policy making process model. According to my model; the main actor in foreign policy decision
making process is the National Security Council (NSC) instead of the President of the United States
. By putting the NSC to the center of my model, I aim to balance the president s seemingly extreme
power in the foreign policymaking process and prevent the destructive effects of internal conflicts

However, it cannot be always a beneficial option for the US that its decision making process is led
by a one leading figure. There are good examples such as Franklin D. Roosevelt but conversely,
there are negative examples in the US foreign policy such as; George W.Bush and Barack Obama,
which shaped and applied erroneous policies that undermined the US role in the post Cold War
international system. The NSC s structure in Classic model is controversial for me. The NSC
members are designated by the president and this might allow unchallenged and without
balanced foreign policy strategies under crusader type task oriented leader such as George
W.Bush. The congress can check the president s appointments but this will also lead a slow
down and can be regarded as a sign of weakness by the possible international challengers of the
US. In addition to this, the current role of the NSC in Hilsman s model can also lead lack of
coordination and open for bureaucratic rivalry under presidents such as Barack Obama. As I
stated above, bureaucracy s role in USFP is also too broad. In Hilsman s model, bureaucracy is
able to affect the decision making process and diminish the effectiveness of foreign policy
strategies due to inter institutional rivalry. People s role is quite limited in this model with only
election of the president. The public does not have any role to determine its country s foreign
policy staff. Although the congress can check the president s appointees, this usually leads an
administrative crisis and considered as a weakness by the challengers of the

What Does It Mean To Be A Good Girl
Growing up I was often told what it means to be a good girl...
A good girl doesn t wear make up.
A good girl doesn t date.
A good girl doesn t argue with anyone.
A good girl sits home, doesn t talk much, and accepts what her family says.
A good girl does not have an opinion.

the best of both worlds. More specifically, in my upbringing, money was tight and my parents

Analysis Of Midaq Alley
Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary
piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development
of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important
message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development
of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the
idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a
major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. As Midaq Alley is a translated book

The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1)
indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the
people of the alley showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that
the alley is facing. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no
one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression
propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of
the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow.
(Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative
claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a
color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the
color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it
was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The
alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again that
the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley and their life only

Significance Of Dracula
To what extent was Bram Stoker s Dracula based on historical figures?
In 1897, Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, the story of a monstrous Transylvanian count who terrorized

historically significant literary work, and its importance has caused many scholars to debate
whether Bram Stoker s main character Dracula was actually inspired by real historical figures.
Many scholars believe that Vlad the 3rd or Vlad the Impaler was the direct inspiration for Count
Dracula. Vlad the 3rd was the son of King Vlad the 2nd Dracul and as Prince, was the heir to the

The latter part of the 19th century (1870 1900) is generally viewed as a dark time in American
History. Called the Gilded Age this was a time in which increasing wealth was plagued by many
problems under the surface. The Gilded Age saw increasing industrialization, urbanization,
immigration, and the problems associated with them. Many people during this time period blamed
these problems on the government for being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in
order to benefit the interests of the people. Although the people were correct in the fact that the
government was not taking steps in order to benefit them, the claim that the government during the
Gilded Age was laissez faire is completely false. Through their... Show more content on

Thus, through the acquisition of wealth for the wealthy, the poor are able to obtain the necessities
of life, and society is advanced. While The Theory of Moral Sentiments deals mainly with the moral
argument for laissez faire, The Wealth of Nations justifies the usage of laissez faire at the national
level through economic arguments. In Book 4 of The Wealth of Nations (Of systems of political
Economy), Smith argued that government restrictions hindered industrial expansion and thus,
harmed the economy in the long run (in earlier books, Smith had equated the growth of industry to
the wealth of a nation and its individuals through historical analysis). Specifically, he stated that
protectionist tariffs served against the interests of a nation by causing increasing prices of foreign
and domestic goods, that export duties harm the economy by diminishing the goods that a company
can ship overseas, that trade treaties harm the economy by giving a foreign nation a trade monopoly
over an industry (since the other country will only be trading with them for that particular good),

Theme Of Iago In Othello
William Shakespeare has presented Iago as the antagonist, who manipulates other characters in the
play, Othello. From the beginning to till the end, he is a controller of other characters and his sole
motive was to take revenge on Othello and Cassio. Every character in the play believes that Iago is
the most reputed, honest, reliable, and direct speaking person. Therefore, he uses that trust to
manipulate every character in the play for his sake of revenge. Despite his negative intention in the
play, Iagolove for his wife Emilia is true and pure. Iago is truthful only to his wife. Iago was a good
with everybody in the beginning, but when Moor chose Cassio over him for the post of Othello
lieutenant, he got jealous. Iago believed that he was the only one who was worthy of that post
and who deserved a promotion. However, choosing Cassio over him made him hate Cassio and
Othello. This incident seeded the plant of revenge in Iago s heart for Othello and Cassio and he
wanted to kill them both. From this point of play, Iago starts his plan in manipulating another
character of play for his revenge. When Cassio got the post of lieutenant, Iago says, I follow to
serve my turn upon him: We cannot all be masters, nor all masters cannot be truly followed (Iago
Act I, Scene i). Iago is clearly bitter about not getting the post of lieutenant. However, he hides his
jealousyand reveals that he serves Othello only to serve himself. He says to Roderigo that men
cannot follow leaders if they want to lead themselves. After that, he refers to Othello and says,
that not all men are fit to lead and not all leaders should be followed. With that statement, Iago is
praised as the honest person. But Iago was burning inside for the revenge with Othello and
Cassio. Iago hated Cassio after he got the post of lieutenant instead of him, but Iago hated Othello
before that incident happened. Iago started hating Othello when he heard the rumor of Othello
hooking up with Iago s wife Emilia. And after finding out he was not chosen for the post of
Othello s lieutenant, Iago s hate for Othello change into revenge. Iago wanted to make Othello s
life a living hell and kill him. Iago makes people act in a way that benefits his plan of

Male Aged Four Years ( 48 Months )
Introduction
The subject of this case study is a male aged four years (48 months). The setting is a voluntary
aided faith nursery which follows a religious syllabus. It has children from a specific Islamic
background. Within the nursery each child is assigned a key worker, who works with the child on
a one to one basis and performs in partnership with parents or/carers to assist their child s learning
and development. There are about 17 children to 6 adults. Child A (as he will be known) has no
special educational needs, is an only child and English is his original dialect.

Consequently child A, through the scaffolding cycle, would be able to utilise his fine motor skills
to do his zip up himself. Hence, child A s skills are developing through the process of scaffolding,
as he will retain this information.
Intellectual
There was a specific observation of mention when Child A was in the computer corner playing a
water themed counting game. When estimating the number of objects on the screen, he used his
fingers to count the sea animals, 1, 2,3,4,5, 6 animals and looked at me for confirmation asking, is
it 6? . This shows that Child A is developing within the usual ranges of development, Estimates how
many objects they can see and checks by counting them , (Development Matters in the EYFS, 2012,
p.34).
Piaget believes children learn best by doing and that they must be additionally active in their own
understanding. He also believes that knowledge must be assembled and reassembled by the child.
Subsequently Child A, within the stages of schema, would experience a new notion of dealing with
numbers. The existing schema does not work as child A has no prior knowledge on counting sea
animals. Thus disequilibrium arises until Child A is able to assimilate and accommodate the
contemporary knowledge and attain equilibrium. Hence, Child A uses his fingers to count aloud
and signify each finger with a specific number. For future recommendation, I would have Child A
complete sums where he can count the objects in two

Gladitorial Combat in Ancient Rome Essay
Gladitorial Combat in Ancient Rome
The culture of Ancient Rome had a distinct way to entertain its citizens. Besides spending times at
the baths, Romans found pleasure and delight in the games held at the local coliseum. These
games were among the bloodiest displays of public amusement in the history of man. Professional
wrestling and boxing today, do not come close to the disgusting horrors that the people of Rome
took so much pleasure in observing. Although the games were very bloody and extremely brutal,
often killing many men and animals, the Romans enjoyed the scenery of life and death being very
near. Watching men fight and eventually die a dreadful death, is what fascinated the Roman
population in great degree as the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gladiators fought in various styles, depending on their background and training. Gladiatorial
combat was so important to ancient Romans that they had gladiator schools to train men to be
machines of slaughter for the scheduled entertainment (Johnston 287).
These trained machines fought in festivals held for ten to twelve day periods each year and
often coincided with Saturnalia, a festival celebrating the god Saturn. Professional sign makers
advertised with red lettered signs; heralds also proclaimed these spectacles. Programs were also
available to aid in the inevitable betting. The fights were very brutal and gruesome. The most
popular fights were against a heavily armed and shielded man against a fighter with only a net and
a small dagger. Depending on the emperor of the day, you might see dwarfs fighting women,
Amazons or even non human opponents (Johnston 297). Not only did people fight each other, but
also bears, buffalo s and other huge vicious animals. The gladiators would be forced to fight the
wild beasts unarmed. In addition, many times the beast would be victorious. Beasts were also made
to fight other beasts. One could watch bears fighting buffalos, buffaloes against elephants, elephants
against rhinoceros. Even the ostriches that were brought in to amuse the spectators were not spared.
After dashing around the arena, they were killed by arrows from archers who were located in the
stands. Fights between men and tame

Keep Blaming Canada Essay
Keep Blaming Canada
In 1999, Shawn Fanning and his little program called Napster created quite a stir in society.
Napster s software allows music listeners to open pieces of their personal hard drives to everyone
using Napster, sharing whatever MP3 songs they have already downloaded or stored. At any time,
thousands of people are online, sharing hundreds of thousands of songs, many of which are
technically illegal to download without the permission of the copyright holders. [1] This led to a
lawsuit filed by the Recording Industry Association of America, with the rock group Metallica as
its frontman. In this case, several issues were brought up, one of which was the right of the creator
of the music to control what happens with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the permission of people to make private copies of music for themselves. But realizing that
people would make copies for friends and family, the government decided to try and compensate
the artists. They added in a provision for the imposition of a levy on blank audio recording media.
The money from this tax would go to the artists and authors of the music.
But with the effects of Napster and pressures from recording artists and other organizations
being felt, Canada had to address the issue of peer to peer transfers of electronically stored
music. On December 12, 2003, the Copyright Board of Canada decided that peer to peer
uploading was illegal, but downloading would remain legal. The peer to peer component of the
decision was prompted by questions from consumer and entertainment groups about ambiguous
elements of Canadian law. Previously, most analysts had said uploading was illegal but that
downloading for personal use might be allowed. As far as computer hard drives are concerned,
we say that for the time being, it is still legal, said Claude Majeau, secretary general of the
Copyright Board. [3] The boards decision was based on the interpretation of the fact that the
country s copyright law does allow making a copy for personal use, but does not address the source
of that copy or whether the

The Experience Of My Life In New York City
My dad and I had always lived in New York City. After 15 years of experience and the guidance
of my older brother, you could say that I knew my way around town. The coffee shops with the
best lattes, the highest swinging swing sets in every park, and most importantly, the buildings
with the best views. You would think that after living here for so long I would get sick of seeing
the view of the city every day, but it just never gets old. The best spot is at the top of my apartment
building, on the far northeast corner, looking over the horizon and onto the Hudson. There was
no other way of completing my day, no matter the rain, snow, or blazing heat I sat on that rooftop
every night as the sun disappeared, along with the overworked New Yorkers for the night. The
most interesting part is, every single night, the color of the sky is always slightly different. No
sunset was ever the exact same. Anyways, as I was walking back down the stairs to my condo, 7B,
I got the jitters in my stomach, I was beyond excited for tomorrow, the first day of Winter Break.
My older brother, Todd, was taking me and my best friend Hannah up to Vermont to go skiing. I
opened our apartment door, took a quick shower, and fell asleep with Cooper on my lap while
watching Full House. I woke up with dried drool on my left cheek, and I heard the sound of my
dad making his daily smoothie. I got ready as fast as I could, because I was late, as always. I ran
down our seven flights of stairs and met Todd

Archaeopteryx Research Paper
For my research project, I did it on the archaeopteryx and the dodo bird. The archaeopteryx, also
known as the ancient wing . It comes from the 2 Greek words archaД«os, meaning ancient, and
ptГ©ryx, meaning wing. The Dodo bird or the flightless bird is another example of an extinct
species that is included in this paper.
The archaeopteryx, once thought of as the First Bird or Urvogel was a avian/reptile. The
Archaeopteryx was believed to live about 150 million years ago, towards the end of the Jurassic
period. The Avian dinosaurwas a carnivore and scientist believe it prayed on small animals, which
it would pick up in its talons. It also had wings like any other avian, but scientist are not
completely sure if it could fly, glide or it even be another type of flightless bird, like the Dodo.
The structure of the reptilian/ avian has many similarities and differences to the modern bird,
which is why it s understandable that the scientist were not sure what to categorize the creature.
The size of the Ancient Wing, is typically the size of a modern day raven with the weight of only 2
pounds. A distinguishing trait about the creature is the fact it had a full set of teeth which lead
scientist to believe that this animal is in fact a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Change Of Identity In I Am Not Esther By Fleur Beale
The novel, I am not Esther, written by Fleur Beale follows Kirby Greenland, a fourteen year old
girl, who is suddenly abandoned by her mother. Kirby is then forced to live with family members
she has never met before in an unfamiliar, religious community with strict rules and regulations.
During her time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of
identity change and loss as well as abandonment and isolation. This helped me develop a deep
understandingof Kirby and how she undergoes a large character development throughout the text.
Firstly, I gained an understanding of Kirby and her character development through how she
dealt with her loss and change of identity. When Kirby first entered the community, she is
stripped of her belongings and even her name they give her a new biblical name of Esther . This
made Kirby feel outraged and like her identity had just been attacked. Kirby faces this challenge
by reproaching the change instantly. I know this because she says I m Kirby, not Esther for God
s sake. This showed me that Kirby is sure of her identity and would disobey the community to act
in a way which is true to herself. However, after spending so much time with unfamiliar people
and in an unfamiliar environment, Kirby questions whether she is Kirby or Esther, seeing her two
self consciousness as two separate beings. Kirby is asked by Mrs Fletcher, the guidance counsellor
whom she enlisted help from, what she wished to be called.

Compare And Contrast The Book And The Neverending Story
Like everyone else, my remembrances of childhood contain hazy memories of Atreyu doing
battle with Gmork, and a young Barrett Oliver as Bastian yelling I will do what I dream! So, in a
mood to reaffirm my youthful fantasies, I picked up a copy of Michael Ende s 1979 novel upon
which the movie was loosely based, The Neverending Story. I was not surprised that the largely
dark tone of the movie was, of course, much darker, deeper and much more sustained in the
novel. But I am not here to compare the book to the movie, both of which are classics in their
own right. Like the best of what is considered children s literature, The Neverending Story has an
appeal and a depth that literally begs for continued readings as one grows older. A novel about
growth, maturity, the power (fraught as it is) of imagination, and the necessity of books to provide
us with different perspectives on our world, The Neverending Story is a challenging children s
novel which respects its readers enough to not treat them like children.
The Neverending Story begins as Bastian Balthazar Bux, a fat little ten year ... Show more content

the Berlin Wall, and a dream for post national fluidity. The Neverending Story is not just a novel,
but a challenge for us to mitigate the power of power, to reevaluate our relationships to people and
to literature, to be individuals, and not the weak minded followers that Gmork lusts after. This is

Repentance Of Sinners In The Parable Of The Lost Sheep
How is Luke s claim on repentance of sinners in the Parable of the Lost Sheep being illustrated by
the differences in detail found, in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew and Thomas?
The Parable of the Lost Sheep is one of the many parables Jesus gave during his lifetime. It is
found in the two canonical gospels: Matthew 18:10 14 and Luke 15:3 10. It is also found in the
non canonical gospel of Thomas 107. It is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of ninety nine
sheep behind to go look for the one sheep that is lost. This context is similar in all of the three
Gospels.
However, although there are similarities, there are also differences. These differences have an
implication for the message grasped by the readers. The focus will be on the repentance of sinners
claimed in the Gospel of Luke and how it differs from the messages found in the other two Gospels.
I will do this by analyzing the effect of the differences in language, symbolic representation, location
of the parable, audience, and the context in which it is written, found in these three Gospels.
In terms of symbolic presentation, Luke uses the word sinners to compare them to the sheep as seen
in verse 7, ...one sinner who repents... Jesus is giving a reason why he is friends of tax collectors
and sinners. This is because they are like the sheep, lost and need saving through repentance. In the
Gospel of Matthew, Jesus uses the words little ones . Jesus uses these words after giving a lesson
about caring

Myers Brigg Type Indicator The Myers Brigg Assessment, and the four dimensions of personality
types based on the findings of Carl Jung, Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs, indicates Katie as an
ISFJ (intuitive, sensing, feeling, and judging). People falling into this category are often known as
nurturers. Additionally, individuals of this personality typetend to be practical, and sensitive
towards other s feelings. These traits make the ISFJ personality ideal for careers such as counseling
where they are needed to give practical and emotional support. ISFJ personality types are reliable,
and exhibit a strong sense of responsibility and duty (Sharf, 2013). Moreover, this personality type
prefers organization, planning, and schedules, (Neukrug Fawcett, 2015); qualities that Katie has
presented in her coaching positions. These characteristics have been noted in jobs that Katie has
held. Furthermore, ISFJ individuals carry high standards of work ethic (ISFJ Introverted, Sensing,

  • 2. theories of sociology Running Head: CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY 1 CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY Abstract The purpose of this essay is to discuss the three basic theories of sociology. The three basic theories of sociology are functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionism. These theories are studied on the micro or macro level. The micro level is the sum of interactions between people and groups. The micro level analysis is based on small groups and individuals versus the macro level which is viewed on a larger scale and looks at society as a whole. In the functional theory members of society share a common interest of values, beliefs, and behavioral expectations. In the conflict theory there is a constant struggle between resources and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One change or shift in society can either make optimal opportunities to the community or create the start of a downward spiral. I have found that all three theories are based on society and how an individual person or a group of people acts or behaves greatly affects each of these theories. It is amazing the amount of changes that a person can go through by having to deal with social changes. Lastly, in order to explain which theory best describes our social reality we need to define what social reality means. Social reality is basically created through social interactions, individual motives, and actions. It is a little difficult for me to choose one theory that relates to our social reality that we live in today. I feel that we could easily fall under each theory depending on the circumstances. The functionalist theory is made up of different parts that all work together like a puzzle to build stability or a strong foundation. This theory involves CLASSIC THEORIES OF SOCIOLOGY families and large communities that have a strong bond formed to support one another. We must support and invest in our schools and churches to make a difference in our community. If we lose our church due to lack of finances then our community could lose its faith. The conflict theory is generally when there is a struggle for resources. Let s face it, today we as a society are struggling with obtaining resources needed as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The X Men movie franchise is based off the popular Marvel comic of the same name; This means that the narratives in the movie franchise are adapted from the narratives of the comic books; something Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) discuss while discussing Prater s (2012) view; they say Based on comics from the 1960s and 70s, Prater argues that the more recent films disempower the female X men, while trying to claim an alibi for this sexist representation. It is an interesting view, highlighting how passive the audience becomes to hegemonic beliefs in a movie if the story happens to be adapted from a comic that was written roughly 40 years earlier. What Waterhouse Watson and Kendal (2012) were stating, about the X Men film franchise, also applies to the expanded universe of comic books. Hulshof Schmidt (2008) talks about story arcs in comic that have a negative effect on the super heroines. Hulshof Schmidt (2008) talks about the 1980 s story arc within the X Men comic book series. The story involves a female superhero who suffers a traumatic experience when she is possessed by a telepath, an experience which he (Hulshof Schmidt, 2008) sates is an unfortunate tendency of the comics industry to run their female characters through excessive turmoil. • 4. Suicide In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman Arthur Miller is a man of many words and many plays alike. More often than not, Miller likes to focus on topics that are fairly controversial and have an underlying political agenda or concept. In 1949 when Death of a Salesman hit Broadway, it was very popular and it was also very controversial. This is mainly for the openness of the events that occur throughout the plot, but focusing solely on the suicide, a topic that was much more sensitive in the 1950 s than it is in today s society. Arthur Miller was born in Harlem and lived a long life until the age of eighty nine years old, in which he married the famous idol of many young girls in modern society, Marilyn Monroe. While Miller s career started rocky with a few of his early plays, he eventually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in the dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism between the Serbsand Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force. With regard to Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their ground against Milosevic and declared independence in 1991. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What Percy (1995) fully fails to mention is that the Yugoslavian republics did not have the military capabilities to defend their own states; regardless of it was against Milosevic or another outside force and was only amplified when outside states provided no military backup (Baylis, Smith, Owens, 2014). Thus, it was relatively easy for one party, with federal force and of one ethnicity, to come in and take over. First, high heritability can be shown from genetic basis that color morphs provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide visual markers and can be seen in isolated individuals when observing selection in the wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype frequencies can be detected easily and derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time. There have been numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to study evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to strong natural and... Such changes in recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy, which result in magic traits. Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive isolation and ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across multiple consecutive generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain population, such as: physiology and behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the population s morph sequences by fitness consistency. Natural and sexual selection can work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this study shows the tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. As a result, the target population will experience a stronger evolutionary pressure when the two selections (natural and sexual) work in one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, if the disorder begins in adolescence, there are more positive outcomes when treated. These individuals usually do not display anti social personality traits in adulthood. In addition the male female ratio is lower than the childhood type. Lastly, the people with adolescent onset type have more normal peer relationships(4). One closely related disorder to conduct disorder is oppositional defiant disorder. This is a disorder usually seen in children younger than 10 years. It is characterized by a pattern of frequent uncooperative hostile behavior towards authority figures. It is manifested by frequent temper tantrums, excessive arguing, active defiance, deliberate attempts to annoy others, blaming others, frequent anger and resentment, mean and hateful talking, and revenge seeking(6). While these symptoms are part of normal development of two and three year olds they become part of a diagnosable disorder when they interfere with the normal development of the child. The Enlightenment Era, And The Romantic Era The styles we call High Renaissance, Baroque style, Scientific Reformation, The Enlightenment Era, and The Romantic Era are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the Protestant Reformation s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church. Martin Luther, son of a rural coal miner had a mass impact in all these eras but Scientific Reformation was more prominent than the rest. Luther was a German monk and Professor of Theology at the University of Wittenberg. Luther s studies were put on hold by a political crisis in Augustinians. He found himself agitated due to the corruption and lack of spirituality he saw in Rome. He saw openly corrupt priests who would taunt the rituals of their faith. Luther sparked the Reformation in 1517 by posting his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The 95 theses were a list of statements which expressed Luther s concerns about many Church practices. These Theses traveled around Europe. He felt in a manner, that the church was not always right. Herbert Hoover s Contributions Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack while battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and typhoid fever and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the rest of their childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or form foreshadow his future. For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon. Hoover was able to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in California. While attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who majored in geology as well. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college Hoover worked in the gold mines of Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and evaluated mines available for purchase for potential buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to start his own consulting business that opened its doors in 1904. Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hooverin the forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted Hoover and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe. I like it best edited, the way my clarinet teacher first introduced it to me: I practice more than ever...mostly scales and arpeggios...and anything I can t do . If I had come across this quote several years ago, I would have likely dismissed it without so much as a second glance, instantly repulsed by the words scales and arpeggios . But when I first saw the quote, I was not quite so repelled. This is strange because I used to despise playing the clarinet, when I was younger, as it seemed the only sound I could manage to produce was a squeak, ranging unpredictably from an airy hiss to a deafening, shrill cry. By holding the Seneca Falls Convention and drafting the Declaration of Sentiments they highlighted the issues that needed to change. This is recognized as the beginning of the women s rights movement. The early 19th century in the United States was a period of many social upheavals and reforms including women s rights. The women s rights movement in the United States began with a convention held at the Wesleyan Church chapel located in Seneca Falls, New York, which became known as the Seneca Falls Convention. Approximately 200 people, men and women, attended; many of them were already activists in various movements. My model aims to offer a different approach to the existing policy making process model. According to my model; the main actor in foreign policy decision making process is the National Security Council (NSC) instead of the President of the United States . By putting the NSC to the center of my model, I aim to balance the president s seemingly extreme power in the foreign policymaking process and prevent the destructive effects of internal conflicts and rivalries among bureaucratic institutions to affect foreign policy decision making process. President s status is second to the National Security Council, the President s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it cannot be always a beneficial option for the US that its decision making process is led by a one leading figure. There are good examples such as Franklin D. Roosevelt but conversely, there are negative examples in the US foreign policy such as; George W.Bush and Barack Obama, which shaped and applied erroneous policies that undermined the US role in the post Cold War international system. The NSC s structure in Classic model is controversial for me. The NSC members are designated by the president and this might allow unchallenged and without balanced foreign policy strategies under crusader type task oriented leader such as George W.Bush. The congress can check the president s appointments but this will also lead a slow down and can be regarded as a sign of weakness by the possible international challengers of the US. In addition to this, the current role of the NSC in Hilsman s model can also lead lack of coordination and open for bureaucratic rivalry under presidents such as Barack Obama. As I stated above, bureaucracy s role in USFP is also too broad. In Hilsman s model, bureaucracy is able to affect the decision making process and diminish the effectiveness of foreign policy strategies due to inter institutional rivalry. People s role is quite limited in this model with only election of the president. The public does not have any role to determine its country s foreign policy staff. Although the congress can check the president s appointees, this usually leads an administrative crisis and considered as a weakness by the challengers of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Afghanistan a good girl enters her husband s house in a white dress and leaves in a white shroud. A shroud is something one wears after death. Meaning that a good girl is to tolerate anything. Whether its abuse or just an unhappy marriage because she is a good girl the only time she will leave is in the shroud. She is to be her father s daughter. • 37. Analysis Of Midaq Alley Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. Many people during this time period blamed these problems on the government for being laissez faire; for not taking steps against industry in order to benefit the interests of the people. My older brother, Todd, was taking me and my best friend Hannah up to Vermont to go skiing. I opened our apartment door, took a quick shower, and fell asleep with Cooper on my lap while watching Full House. I woke up with dried drool on my left cheek, and I heard the sound of my dad making his daily smoothie. I got ready as fast as I could, because I was late, as always. I ran down our seven flights of stairs and met Todd ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Archaeopteryx Research Paper For my research project, I did it on the archaeopteryx and the dodo bird. The archaeopteryx, also known as the ancient wing . It comes from the 2 Greek words archaД«os, meaning ancient, and ptГ©ryx, meaning wing. The Dodo bird or the flightless bird is another example of an extinct species that is included in this paper. The archaeopteryx, once thought of as the First Bird or Urvogel was a avian/reptile. The Archaeopteryx was believed to live about 150 million years ago, towards the end of the Jurassic period. The Avian dinosaurwas a carnivore and scientist believe it prayed on small animals, which it would pick up in its talons. It also had wings like any other avian, but scientist are not completely sure if it could fly, glide or it even be another type of flightless bird, like the Dodo. The structure of the reptilian/ avian has many similarities and differences to the modern bird, which is why it s understandable that the scientist were not sure what to categorize the creature. The size of the Ancient Wing, is typically the size of a modern day raven with the weight of only 2 pounds. A distinguishing trait about the creature is the fact it had a full set of teeth which lead scientist to believe that this animal is in fact a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This species is in the columbidae family, a family made up of doves and pigeons. The dodo bird does everything on the ground, including nest, which is extremely uncommon for any type of avian. Another amazing fact about these interesting creature is that appearance of the dodo bird was only confirmed in 2007, though their has been many drawings of the creature they were all amateur drawings of all of these characters. The reason why the dodo birds where able to nest on the ground is because during there time of existence and the environment around them, the species around them posed no ... • 53. Change Of Identity In I Am Not Esther By Fleur Beale The novel, I am not Esther, written by Fleur Beale follows Kirby Greenland, a fourteen year old girl, who is suddenly abandoned by her mother. Kirby is then forced to live with family members she has never met before in an unfamiliar, religious community with strict rules and regulations. During her time in the community, also considered as a cult , Kirby faced the challenges of identity change and loss as well as abandonment and isolation. This helped me develop a deep understandingof Kirby and how she undergoes a large character development throughout the text. Firstly, I gained an understanding of Kirby and her character development through how she dealt with her loss and change of identity. When Kirby first entered the community, she is stripped of her belongings and even her name they give her a new biblical name of Esther . This made Kirby feel outraged and like her identity had just been attacked. Kirby faces this challenge by reproaching the change instantly. I know this because she says I m Kirby, not Esther for God s sake. This showed me that Kirby is sure of her identity and would disobey the community to act in a way which is true to herself. However, after spending so much time with unfamiliar people and in an unfamiliar environment, Kirby questions whether she is Kirby or Esther, seeing her two self consciousness as two separate beings. Kirby is asked by Mrs Fletcher, the guidance counsellor whom she enlisted help from, what she wished to be called. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Compare And Contrast The Book And The Neverending Story Like everyone else, my remembrances of childhood contain hazy memories of Atreyu doing battle with Gmork, and a young Barrett Oliver as Bastian yelling I will do what I dream! So, in a mood to reaffirm my youthful fantasies, I picked up a copy of Michael Ende s 1979 novel upon which the movie was loosely based, The Neverending Story. I was not surprised that the largely dark tone of the movie was, of course, much darker, deeper and much more sustained in the novel. But I am not here to compare the book to the movie, both of which are classics in their own right. Like the best of what is considered children s literature, The Neverending Story has an appeal and a depth that literally begs for continued readings as one grows older. A novel about growth, maturity, the power (fraught as it is) of imagination, and the necessity of books to provide us with different perspectives on our world, The Neverending Story is a challenging children s novel which respects its readers enough to not treat them like children. The Neverending Story begins as Bastian Balthazar Bux, a fat little ten year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Written in the late 70 s in Germany, we should really pay attention to Ende s focus on the borders of Fantastica the focus thoughout the novel on crossing borders, climbing walls, and passing gates all serve as a powerful comment on a split Communist/Democratic Germany represented by the Berlin Wall, and a dream for post national fluidity. The Neverending Story is not just a novel, but a challenge for us to mitigate the power of power, to reevaluate our relationships to people and to literature, to be individuals, and not the weak minded followers that Gmork lusts after. This is really a terrific book, and one that no doubt will continue to enthrall and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Repentance Of Sinners In The Parable Of The Lost Sheep How is Luke s claim on repentance of sinners in the Parable of the Lost Sheep being illustrated by the differences in detail found, in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew and Thomas? The Parable of the Lost Sheep is one of the many parables Jesus gave during his lifetime. It is found in the two canonical gospels: Matthew 18:10 14 and Luke 15:3 10. It is also found in the non canonical gospel of Thomas 107. It is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of ninety nine sheep behind to go look for the one sheep that is lost. This context is similar in all of the three Gospels. However, although there are similarities, there are also differences. These differences have an implication for the message grasped by the readers. The focus will be on the repentance of sinners claimed in the Gospel of Luke and how it differs from the messages found in the other two Gospels. I will do this by analyzing the effect of the differences in language, symbolic representation, location of the parable, audience, and the context in which it is written, found in these three Gospels. In terms of symbolic presentation, Luke uses the word sinners to compare them to the sheep as seen in verse 7, ...one sinner who repents... Jesus is giving a reason why he is friends of tax collectors and sinners. This is because they are like the sheep, lost and need saving through repentance. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus uses the words little ones . Jesus uses these words after giving a lesson about caring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Myers Brigg Type Indicator, And The Four Dimensions Of... Myers Brigg Type Indicator The Myers Brigg Assessment, and the four dimensions of personality types based on the findings of Carl Jung, Isabel Myers and Katharine Briggs, indicates Katie as an ISFJ (intuitive, sensing, feeling, and judging). People falling into this category are often known as nurturers. Additionally, individuals of this personality typetend to be practical, and sensitive towards other s feelings. These traits make the ISFJ personality ideal for careers such as counseling where they are needed to give practical and emotional support. Moreover, this personality type prefers organization, planning, and schedules, (Neukrug Fawcett, 2015); qualities that Katie has presented in her coaching positions. These characteristics have been noted in jobs that Katie has held. Furthermore, ISFJ individuals carry high standards of work ethic (ISFJ Introverted, Sensing, feeling, Judging).
