INTRODUCTION
The increasing demand for dental services has sparked further demand for
new establishments and refurbishment of existing clinics. Professionals interior
designers are often brought in by a market seeking quaility. In the dental
clinic design. Important factors for the designer to consider improvement of
the traffic flow, reducing patients‘ anxiety and dealing with infection control.
There are possibilities of cross-infection occurring during dental surgery, so
the designer gives particular attention to this aspect.
Books about dental facility design do exist but only one of is written by an
interior designer (Maklin, 1982). It shows lists of important criteria for dental
facility design, but does not mention infection control.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This research project aims to update and further describe the basic
principles involved in interior planning and design for a small scale dental
health environment. This research seeks to apply relevant information and
data concerning the basic principles and foundations of interior planning
and design to requirements of a dental clinic and its related facilities. An
investigation of general dental practice including the procedure
of dental infection control will be used in the analysis and planning of
space. The design aspirations of patients and dentists are also explored.

LITREATURE REVIEW
In 1961 The Department of Health and Social Security, London published
Hospital Building Note 12 to provide guidelines for the design of dental
hospital facilities. The Department of Health and Social Security in Britain
(1970) published Health Centers a Design Guide. This guide had 2 main
objectives: first, to focus attention on those matters which should be
considered at the briefing stage and secondly, to offer guidance on
certain design features. Health Centers a Design Guide was written as a
guide for a general hospital which included a dental facility. Also in the
same year The Department of Health and Social Security in Britain
published Health Building Note 28 "Dental Department of Out-Patient
Department" which focussed upon the standards of dental
accommodation and dental services.
DESIGN BRIEF :
Modern design conscepts have been
applied. The concepts of “ form follows
function” has been in the planning to
improve the convienience pf working
activity of staff.
