2. Gladwell, M. (2000). The Tipping Point – How little things can make a big difference. Boston, MA, Little, Brown and Company (TP)
JOB1. We have to write our discussion by following book .minimum 300 words
Job2. Have to respond other peoples discussion minimum 150 words
Job 1 :
Investigate the definitions of “technology” “innovation” and “diffusion” provided in chapter one of Diffusion of Innovations (DI). Compare and contrast these definitions with other definitions you can find from other sources and provide your insight to how these definitions can help you understand and create diffusions of technology for yourself.
What are some new terms you have learned from the first and second chapter in the Rogers DI text.
How can you apply these terms to your life? Provide an example of a technology where you where an early adaptor and one where you were a late adaptor. Have you ever participated in the salience of something?
Respond with your first post by the second day the discussion is open to be eligible for full points. Make your first remark to another students comments by the third day to be eligible for full points.
Points will be deducted from all papers and discussions for poor grammar, improper capitalization, and misspelled words. Proofread your work.
To receive full points you must use critical thinking and address all items. To receive full credit you must provide references from the text to support your remarks. Use this simple method for references in our discussions. Examples: For the Diffusion of Innovations text (DI p. 45) for The Tipping Point (TP p. 73). For other references use APA format.
Job 2:
Please give a positive response of two peoples discussion by appreciating and giving some information.
I).
According to the text “Diffusion is the process in which an innovation is communicated through certain channels over time among the members of a social systems” (DI.p.5) when we try to compare this we other definitions online it can be known very clearly that diffusion is known to be spreading the things when comes to the technology it is can be known as the spreading of technology more widely.
Coming to Innovation according to textbook “Innovation is an idea, practice or object that is perceived as new by an individual or another unit of adoption”(DI.p.12).
According to Textbook “A technology is a design for instrumental action that reduces the uncertainty in the cause-effect relationship involved in achieving a desired outcome” (DI.p.13). when we compare this with other definitions which we find online and compare this “Technology is the knowledge of techniques which is implemented in machines” there are a lot of technologies which are being invented everyday

From the Rogers DI text, I have got to know some new words
3. which are compatibility, diffusion, innovation, communication.
Here compatibility is known to be technology and diffusion are
compatible with each other and I also come to know technology
is going to spread more widely in the coming days.
When I apply these terms in my life technology is will be
having a very key role from the past 4-5 years because at my
earlier adoption I have used computer “technology” for the first
time, later then as the “time” goes on now as a late adaptor I
had to adopt lot of new things in the technology that is where
there are lot of web applications which are been created every
day, here technology is being spread everyday i.e., being
diffused. In recent times I have witnessed some of the
technological salience such as cyber-attacks which are been
increasing day-by-day these cyber-attacks and the hacking of
the websites are being done very rapidly.
II).
Per the book Diffusion of Innovations, “diffusion is the process
in which an innovation is communicated through certain
channels over time among the members of a social system”
(DI p. 5). According to Merriam-Webster, diffusion is “the
state of being spread oft or transmitted especially by
contact” (Diffusion, 2017). Between the two different
definitions I feel they are very similar. The one from DI is very
precise in what it means to have diffusion and the one from
Merriam-Webster is more of a general statement of diffusion.
In the book Diffusion of innovations, it states “technology is a
design for instrumental action that reduces the uncertainty in
the cause-effect relationship involved in achieving a desired
4. outcome” (DI p. 36). According to the Oxford Dictionaries,
technology is “the application of scientific knowledge for
practical purposes especially in industry” (Technology, 2017).
These two definitions are very different. The definition from DI
is talking about how you can use technology to achieve a
wanted outcome. As for the Oxford definition, it states that in
industry scientific knowledge is used to help technology. In the
case of these two definitions we see that knowledge is used for
industry and we can reduce uncertainty of the future using
technology.
Per the book Diffusion of Technology, “an innovation is an
idea, practice, or object that is perceived as new by an
individual or other unit of adoption” (DI p. 12). According to
Merriam-Webster, innovation is “the introduction of something
new” (Innovation, 2017). I feel that these two definitions are
similar but not exactly the same. They both agree that it is
something new but the DI definition goes into a little more
depth in describing innovation. I feel that diffusion of
technology is not just something we come by everyday but
something that needs to be developed over time. The diffusion
process may take days, months, or years but when the
innovation is diffused it becomes a new technology.
One of the new terms I have learned is audience segmentation.
Audience segmentation is a communication strategy that
consists of identifying certain substances within a total
audience, and then conveying a special message to each of the
subaudiences (DI p. 85). I feel like I use this on a day to day
basis. I may say one thing to someone because I can relate to it
but not say it to the next because they may not have any idea of
what I am talking about. The next term I found was
Observability. It is “the degree to which the results of and
innovation are visible to others” (DI p. 16). I feel I use this
skill a lot especially when I like to see what other people have
adapted and what I can relate to. I see people with iPhones and
5. I am like I have something in common. I may use it as an ice
breaker to start talking with them to get to know them.
I was an early adopter to the Apple Watch. I was one of the
first people to receive the watch and adopt the idea of it. An
example of a late adopter for me is the iPod. I did not get an
iPod until 2012 and the first iPod was released in 2001. This is
an 11 year difference from when it was released to when I got
one. I never felt left behind in the iPod world because I rarely
listened to music. Ever since I got an iPod I have developed a
liking of listening to music.
I have been involved in the salience of something most recently
the fire in London and the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia.
After I saw the tragedies, I felt like I needed to spread the news
to my family and friends. I felt the spreading of this news was
important for everyone to hear, because everyone has a family
and a congress person.
