This document outlines three theories of representation: reflective representation directly reflects reality; intentional representation shapes the audience's perception of reality; and constructionist representation creates reality but the audience can analyze and reject representations. It also discusses how negative representations of young people can be used to argue that controls over young people are fair, and identifies two categories of how teens are represented - respectable and alternative/fun vs. delinquent and causing trouble.
