1. The Senate Affairs Committee Powers & Duties Bill
Whereas:
The duties and powers of the current Senate Affairs Committee are vague and do not
accurately reflect the intended powers and duties of the Committee.
Therefore, let it be proposed that:
Para. XX shall be replaced with the following:
The Senate Affairs Committee shall consist of four Senators, in addition to the
President-pro-Tempore sitting as the Chairman.
a) Powers
The Senate Affairs Committee shall oversee impeachment protocols. Any
Student Association Officer or Senator who is found to be gross negligent
of the duties of his or her office they may be referred for impeachment.
Impeachment matters that deal with SA Officers shall be discussed by the
Senate Affairs Committee. The Senate Affairs Committee shall review the
SA Officer in accordance with the PUC Constitution & Bylaws, and the
Senator Quarterly Evaluations. The Senate Affairs Committee’s verdict
shall be referred to Senate for a final vote. A two-thirds vote from Senate
is required to remove an SA officer from their position. Any decision the
Senate decides, regarding the impeachment of an SA Officer shall be
subject to the SA President’s veto. The Senate may override the SA
President’s veto by a three-fourths vote.
For Senators, the Senate Affairs Committee shall review Senator
evaluations, which will be completed by Senators, and submitted to the
Senate Affairs Committee by the end of each quarter. The evaluations may
be used as evidence during Impeachment.
b) Duties
The Senate Affairs Committee shall retain the duty to advise and suggest
ideas to SA Officers as well as their Advisors and Sponsors. The
Committee shall make written commendations and recommendations
concerning the effectiveness of each executive officer’s program, after a
review, which is to be held by the Senate Affairs Committee quarterly. A
copy of the written recommendations and commendations shall be sent to
the officer’s faculty advisor, the sponsor the SA President, and the SA
Senate. The Senate Affairs Committee shall also review Senators in
accordance with the Constitution & Bylaws.
