The Role Of The Titans In Greek Mythology
The Titans had very important roles and contributions to Greek Mythology as it is known today.
Many have heard of Greek Mythology, but with very little Information and understanding of these
certain Greek Gods, who had a major factor in the rise of mysticism. Because of their certain powers
and upbringing, Titans had major roles in the society. Without having a major part in the formation ,
Greek Mythology may have not been the same. The Titans originally consisted of twelve gods and
goddesses: Six male and six females, who were inherited by Gaea (Mother Earth) and Uranus
(Father Jupiter). The Titans were Kronos, Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, Coeus, Creus, Theia, Rhea,
Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys, and Themis. Kronus, the youngest among the Titans, overthrew his
Father Uranus , which led him to become king and having his son Zeus betray him. ... Show more

Many of the first generation Titans began to elope after Kronus had defeated the first generations
father . Kronus and Rhea had six: Hestia, Zeus, Demeter, Hades, Hera and Poseidon. Just like
Kronus had done many years before, Zeus had also turned on his father. Hyperion and Theia bore
three: Helios, Selene and Eos. Coeus and Phoebe had two: Asteria and Leto. Oceanus and Tethys
had Oceanids and Potamoi. However not all the siblings eloped. In fact, some of the original Titans
eloped with the second generation Titans or married others unrelated of their kind. Iapetus and
Clymene hadPromethius, Epimetheus, Atlas, Menoetius. Mnemosyne and Zeus had the Muses
(Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania.) Crius
and Eurybia had three: Persus, Pallace and Astraeus. Zeus and Themis had The Fates (Nona,

Percy Jackson's Monologue
A/N Sorry for the wait, I had to go to a party plus I just got Overwatch. Disclaimer: I do not own
PJO or HoO. Percy I hurtled through the ground faster than a jet, homing in on the power signal of
Kronos and his fellow titans where they were stationed in Canada to make it harder for the gods to
find them. I grinned because they were all in one place, which would make it much easier to
slaughter all of them. I burst out of the ground to see Kronos, Hyperion, and Krios staring at me. My
grin only widened as pieces of the building and the ground around them began battering at the titans,
causing them to bleed in several locations. However, I could feel my initial burst of power and rage
diminishing and Kronos froze time, stopping my charge and slowing the hurricane to wind speeds of
158 mph. Suddenly, Artemis flashed into the room with her hunters. She quickly analyzed the ...

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially– regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god–
fearing hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When
welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably– this then
transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but
rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum
from the woes of travel. It is the recipient's responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are
visitors. I assert that xenia has a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because
respect is the foundation of xenia; these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey,
particularly in the interactions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spoils were an important part of war during the time of The Iliad, and could be items of value or
people. Chryses was a priest of Apollo, whose daughter was taken as a spoil for Agamemnon, a
Greek warlord. Chryses approached Agamemnon about taking his daughter home, but Agamemnon
refused (Homer The Iliad 1.24–32). Agamemnon's refusal itself did not violate xenia, but his
disrespect of Chryses did: "Agamemnon was not pleased And dismissed Chryses with a rough
speech: 'Don't ever let me catch you, old man, by these ships again, Sulking around now or sneaking
back later. The god's staff and ribbons won't save you next time.' " (Homer The Iliad 1.33–37). As
Chryses was a priest of Apollo, he beseeched Apollo to seek revenge against Agamemnon and the
Greeks. Apollo answered his prayer and decimated the Greeks with a plague (Homer, The Iliad,
1.45–51, 61–62). The plague was a consequence of Agamemnon's brash reaction to Chryses'
peaceful solicitation for the return of his daughter, which infringed upon the mutual respect aspect

Rationalism In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales
The duration of the novels, the characters are seen lamenting their pasts and longing for a future,
ready for whatever seems to be awaiting them. The journey that the pilgrims takes and the stories
they tell attempts to reconcile their purpose for the journey. At the same time they reconcile their
pasts, and not just their pasts but also the past of humanity. The underling issue of the novel is that
the characters are unable to properly grieve for their pasts and it is ultimately recreated in an odd,
intergalactic colonialism that causes a war. To begin, Pearl is a poem that is contemporary to
Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales of which this novel is loosely based on. But Pearl is a dream–
vision/debate poem about a father who laments the death of his daughter. He falls asleep and has a
vision of her as a queen in heaven. They debate about rationalism, but ultimately the debate does not
have a real conclusion that comes to a satisfactory end. The emphasis of the poem is that all things
are rational through faith whether or not the individual understands. There are multiple dialogues
like this in Hyperion. The Bikura have dialogues like this on two occasions, once after they killed
Tuk and again while figuring out what to do with Duré after he snuck off to the Cleft. When Duré
aske why they killed Tuk, they gave no specific answer "'Your companion died the true death. You
did not.' [...] 'Why not? Why didn't you kill me?' [...] 'You cannot be killed because you cannot die,

The Mere Nature Of The Soliloquy By William Shakespeare
The mere nature of the soliloquy is to enter the thoughts of a specific character It is a simple idea. It
would make sense that Shakespeare employs this literary method to reveal something about
Hamlet's own internal struggle in any given soliloquy. Hamlet is an conflicted and self–disparaging
individual who often finds himself toiling with his own ideas and movies frequently. But the first
soliloquy is used to reveal to the audience that Hamlet is furious at his mother and Claudius, even
before he learns his father was supposedly murdered by the new king. The fury toward Claudius and
Gertrude alone is enough to make Hamlet even contemplate suicide, "Or that the Everlasting had not
fix'd/ His canon 'gainst self–slaughter" (Shakespeare, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By comparing corruption to a rotting plant, Shakespeare manages to insert a large, overarching
theme into a few sentences of a soliloquy.
While there is micro–juxtaposition in the sentences and metaphors in the soliloquy, the first
passionate soliloquy provides a striking contrast to the artificial dialogue that Hamlet must exchange
with Claudius in court. The juxtaposition of tone emphasizes how rules and customs of the royal
court that foster corruption. Shakespeare also juxtaposes spiritual things and earthly things,"O, that
this is too too sullied flesh would melt,/ Thaw and resolve itself into dew" (10). Hamlet is disgusted
by the earthly flesh he has to live in and wishes to be something pure and spiritual like dew. The
earthly things to hamlet, like soil and weeds, are gruesome. To Hamlet, the world is corrupt and so
are the people in it. Shakespeare juxtaposes the earthly with the divine in order to show how
Hamlet, while he wanting to be pure, is trapped on earth by some obligation, such as a "canon
'gainst self–slaughter"(10). The ban on suicide is also a symbol for Hamlet's obligation to stay in the
royal court until things are set right.
Allusion is also implemented to emphasize the corruption that is slowly taking over the Royal court.
Shakespeare has Hamlet compare his father, his mother, and his uncle all to different Greek and
Roman mythological figures. Hamlet firsts makes the comparison of

Selen Research Paper
Selene
Goddess of the Moon, Titan
Ms. Gale, Per. 1
STORY
At the very beginning of creation, there were to primordial deities: Uranus, the sky, and Gaia, the
earth. From these two, twelve titans were born. The titans then went on to birth their own offspring.
Selene was born to the two titans Hyperion and Theia. Hyperion was the god of heavenly light while
Theia was the goddess of sight and wide–shining light, the combination of these created a goddess
to light the night sky.
In the myth, it is said that every night she drove her great chariot across the sky to light up the
moon. Selene is used to represent the phases of the moon so each month there is a day or two where
she disappears.
The main myth that Selene is involved in is the myth of her and her lover Endymion. There are two
different versions of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hyperion and Theia themselves were descended from Gaia and Uranus, the two primordial deities.
They also gave birth to two other gods, Helios, the sun, and Eos, the dawn. Her main spouse is said
to be Endymion, a handsome mortal with whom she had 50 kids.
INTERESTING FACTS
Selene has an element in the Periodic Table whose name was stemmed from hers. This element is
Selenium (Se) with an atomic number of 34. It was given its name because the element has a
metallic gray look, similar to the moon. Selenium is also used as a dietary supplement.
She also has a mineral named after her: Selenite. Selenite is a form of gypsum with an appearance of
a white translucent crystal. Selenite can be used in window panes, but is mainly seen in jewelry.
The name Selena is actually the Latinized version stemmed from Selene's name, often meaning
"moon" or "moon goddess".
SELENE was the second Japanese lunar orbiter spacecraft launched on September 14, 2007. The
craft spent a year and eight months orbiting the Moon before it was instructed to land on the lunar
surface near the crater Gill on June 10,

Database Memorandum
I wanted to review the database tools we have at our disposal and explain what each is used for,
when each is appropriate, and some improvements that we are pursuing to makes these tools easier
to use and more powerful. For the sales organization there are three database options available to us;
Hyperion®, Access®, and our most widely used tool, BusinessObjects by SAP.
Hyperion:
This database is least understood by the sales team because Hyperion® is only used to gather
financial data (Pinnacle Titan Technology Partners [Titan], n.d., p. 1). As a sales team we only use it
once a year for creating our annual sales and operating budgets. The system is not easy for us to use,

Future sales initiatives and identification of nationwide hospital trends can provide tremendous
industry intelligence that the company can support with new distribution and consulting service
offerings.
SAP BusinessObjects:
BusinessObjects is the most widely used and powerful tool the sales team has at its disposable. This
data warehouse provides us with significant volumes of information that can be used to support
business decisions both internally and externally. We can answer customer questions in a short time
span and document our service to them over the last five years. The service and pricing data is most
widely called for and every representative has used their own queries to answer these questions.
While the individual initiative to respond to these inquiries is positive, they are inconsistent because
of the use of custom queries.
We want to ensure that our data is reliable and accurate, so we are going to develop a group of
standard queries for internal use by the sales team. Some report will be internally focused and
include gross sales and margin data. Others will be externally focused and include customer specific
data. Vendor sales volume, fill rates, and pricing credits are all contractual obligations we have to
fulfill. With each person running their own reports there are inconsistencies that are being used
against us as contract renewals are initiated. Monetary penalties can be invoked and damage to our
reputation as a company can

Most Important Titan Gods
The Titans There are 12 first generation titans. The Titans (males) were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus,
Cronus, Crius and Iapetus. The Titanesses (females) were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea
and Themis. A common question asked is "who is the most important Titan god?" Hyperion is the
most important Titan god. The three most important Titan gods are Hyperion, Mnemosyne, and
Cronus.
Hyperion is the god of heavenly light. He is also thought of as the one who cycles the sun.
"Hyperion, as a Titan son of Heaven, was probably also viewed as the primal god who first ordered
the cycles of sun, moon and dawn, establishing the regular rhythm of days and months. His brother
Krios, on the other hand, presided over the ordering of the heavenly constellations and so in a
complimentary manner ordered the year and the cycle of seasons" (HYPERION). Mnemosyne is the
goddess of memory, and time. "Mnemosyne was also a goddess of time. She represented the rote
memorisation required to preserve the stories of history and the sagas of myth before the
introduction of writing. In this role she was the mother of the Mousai (Muses) who were originally
patron goddesses of poets of the oral tradition" (MNEMOSYNE). Cronus is the God of time, and
the king of all Titans. "He ruled the cosmos during the Golden Age after castrating and deposing his

son who would be ready to lead the Empire should he meet his demise.
Unfortunately, during his wife's most recent child birthing, a complication occurred and the Queen
Consort passed on after giving birth to his daughter. Even with most of the Empire's greatest healers
present, no one could save the Queen from death.
Emperor Aarus did not accept that. He believes that somehow foul play was involved and his wife's
death was not an accident. Driven by grief and anguish, Emperor Aarus personally executed all
those nobles he knew were plotting against him or were against the current regime.
To this day, the twenty–seven bodies of those who plotted against him and their families hang from
outside the walls of the Imperial City. A reminder to would be conspirators that there is only one fate

Hymn to Helios: Titan of the Sun
Fair–voiced Muses, begin to sing of radiant Helios, dazzling god of the sun, brilliantly–rayed, bare
to the Son of Earth and starry Heaven . Bright tireless Helios, as you drive your chariot, you shine
upon men and immortal gods , bringing life–nourishing light to the Earth. Without you, all would be
desolate. Son of Hyperion burning radiantly, crowned in fire with the power to blind or to restore
lost sight, we welcome you all–hearing deity! You ride across the heavens propelled by fire–winged
stallions, brother of Moon and Dawn, your sparkling eyes are seen far and wide, piercingly you gaze
with your eyes from under your superb helmet. All–seeing observer, you behold the most solemn
vows of humans and rebuke those who dishonor their word. Ruler of the day that streams through
the houses of Olympus, you see all. When Persephone, the one with the delicate ankles , was seized
by dark–haired Hades, you, magnificent son of Hyperion, the seeing–eye of gods and men, told the
daughter of Rhea with the beautiful hair of what had occurred. And it was you, Helios Panoptes, in
the great hall of Alcinous, who warned Hephaestus of the infidelity of golden Aphrodite, from
Cyprus. You shine upon the Earth, diurnal light, giving life to all mortals. At the start of each new
day, you bring the most wondrous light to the world. The moments pass unobserved as the brightest

Internal Conflict In Hamlet's Soliloquy
In William Shakespeare's tragic play Hamlet, young Hamlet in scene i, scene ii uses various literary
devices to reveal his internal conflict. Hamlet opens his soliloquy with a metaphor of death: "Oh,
that this too, too sullied flesh would melt/Thaw and resolve into a dew(i,ii,1–2)". These lines
illustrate that young Hamlet wants to die a peaceful and calmly death. One can see this with the way
that he describes death, it makes one want to join this eternal sleep. Lines down his soliloquy there
is an illusion between his father and uncle: "So excellent a king, that was to this/ Hyperion to a
satyr(i,ii,11–12)". A Hyperion is a titan full of wisdom and light while a satyr is a drunk and lustful

The Theme Of Mystery In Kingdom Keepers II, By Ridley Pearson
The common thought that people have about Disney is happiness and merriment. Ridley Pearson
provides an opposing view in the book "Kingdom Keepers II" by showing the darkest parts of what
we thought we all knew. Pearson allows this to occur by taking the reader through the lives of kids
who work as DHIs(Disney Host Interactions) that become holographic people that fight the villains.
Pearson not only does this to show his opinion, but he uses it to intrigue the reader enough to want
to keep reading. This fictional fantasy about Disney and Disney parks are incomprehensible and

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes.
At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man–made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife,
water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The
beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier
in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being
poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land
developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash
that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which
devastate the marine life population.
Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological
history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The beach was one
of the very first beaches in California to be artificially doctored starting in the early twentieth
century. The carousel manufacturer, Charles I.D. Looff, purchased the land directly south

The Tone Of Decay In Hamlet
Early on in the play, Shakespeare establishes a tone of decay after Hamlet's death when Marcellus
says, "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark" (I. iv. 90). These distinctive words continue to
be proven time and time again throughout the course of the play. To begin with, Gertrude and
Claudius's incestuous relationship starts up the chain of strange events. Hamlet recalls in a soliloquy
"She married. O most wicked speed, to post / With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! / It is not nor
it cannot come to good" (I. ii. 156–158). Claudius is supposedly the messenger of God on Earth;
however, his actions are that of an immoral and dishonourable man. Gertrude is quick to forget her

Breaking The Law In Antigone
Antigone Essay The government has always controlled the way the people live by making laws that
gives the people rights, resources, and protection. The government provides protection to the people
to protect them from crime and criminals in the country. There are some people who disagree with
certain laws because they feel like they are not treated the same as other people in the same society
or feel the law is unjustified. The people protest by breaking the law to make their point to the
government. This action is not the right way to confront the government about their laws. The
message in "Antigone" is when people obey the government and its laws, that will lead to the people
having the right to peacefully disagree with those laws because the people preserve their
governments protection. The play "Antigone" takes place after the deaths of Antigone`s brothers.
Antigone wanted her brother Polynices, who died in war to be properly buried. Polynice was the
king, but he was replaced by Creon and he order that Polynices will not be properly buried. This
order makes Antigone very upset, so she decided to bury her brother herself. Antigone is then caught

Hyperion, Keats shows a remarkable development of his thought about the art of writing and also
about the poet who is just like a type of healer to humankind. Keats begins to write Hyperion after
returning from Scotland to nurse his dying brother Tom who is suffering from painful tubercular.
Tom died on December 1818 and after this shocking event Keats is unable to make any appreciable
progress on Hyperion. So due to the emotional disturbance he isn't quite ready to write his epic. He
tries to continue the poem but he only gives the reason in his letters of not writing about it. He
writes to the George Keats that "I went on with it a little last night – but it will take some time to get

Compare Shakespeare's Relationship To Other Characters In...
Hamlet Related to Others by Shakespeare How does Shakespeare relate Hamlet to other characters
in the first two acts? What about Hamlet is the same or different about the other characters? In the
first two acts, Shakespeare creates Hamlet's character in relation to other characters like Gertrude,
Claudius, and Laertes. Shakespeare relates Hamlet to Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. First, "But two
months dead– nay, not so much, not two./So excellent a king, that was to this/ Hyperion to a satyr,"
(Shakespeare 26). This could conclude that Hamlet thinks very highly of his father, but Gertrude
doesn't think the same since she remarried so quickly.Next, "Frailty, thy name is woman!",
(Shakespeare 28). The reader could interpret this as Hamlet thinks his mom is weak and dislikes her
more and more for the things she has done towards his dead father. Lastly, "O most wicked speed, to

"married with my uncle,/My father's brother, but no more like my father/ Than I to Hercules,"
(Shakespeare 28). Hamlet thinks Claudius compared to King Hamlet is like Hamlet to Hercules.
Meaning Claudius is nowhere as good as King Hamlet in Hamlet's eyes. Finally, "But to persever/ In
obstinate condolement is a course/ Of impious stubbornness. 'Tis unmanly grief," (Shakespeare 24).
Claudius thinks Hamlet is overdoing his mourning and thinks he should get over his father's death.

is just opposite of Hyperion, who is in the fear for an unknown fate, and he is tortured by "fearless"

Moneta the Greek Mnemosyne is goddess of Memory is also one of the fallen Titans. She is the
most powerful female figure in Keats's poetry, and also extremely expressive. She is also an ideal
poet who has ability to contain and tolerate suffering and still teach others its lessons. She also
classifies the people as a humanitarian poets and dreamers. The humanitarian poets are "those to
whom the miseries of the world / Are misery, and will not let them rest" (I, 147–48). The
humanitarian poets are the highest type because they keep sympathy with their fellows but the poet–
narrator is a dreamer, "a dreaming thing" (I, 168). He does not control his emotions or feelings and
does not work for his fellows so he is called an escapist. He also has excessive feelings but cannot
feel for joy and human suffering. For Keats, a poet needs to be humanitarian and can sympathize
with people. The poet achieves greatness because of his ability to share the world's sorrows, to
participate the reality of human being and comfort man in his anguish.
Due to his knowledge of suffering he is able to sympathize with the fallen Titans' pain and sorrow.
In Hyperion Apollo reads Mnemosyne's face and learns the meaning of suffering and in The Fall the
poet learns the quality of sympathy from Moneta's face. When Moneta tells how Saturn and Thea
have suffered from the defeat, the poet greatly sympathizes with them and he even has a death wish

Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare where the main character, Hamlet,
Thesis: In William Shakespeare's Hamlet mythological and biblical allusions informs us of Hamlet's
inevitable fall.
Throughout the play, Hamlet uses many mythological allusions to show his feelings towards other
characters such as Claudius, Gertrude and the old king as well as inform us of his "fall". After
Queen Gertrude is re–married to Claudius, Hamlet shows his feelings when he compares the late
King Hamlet to Claudius. Hamlet tells his mother, "So excellent a king, that was to this / Hyperion
to a satyr." (Ham. I ii 139–40). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet uses Hecuba to exaggerate the difference between the queen in the play who is full of grief
and sorrow, and Queen Gertrude who has remarried quickly and shows little to no emotion for the
death of her first husband. Another example occurs during Hamlet's soliloquy when he imagines his
mother, "Like Niobe, all tears" (Ham. I. ii. 151). Hamlet not only wishes his mother would mourn
and take revenge, but he also implies responsibility for his father's death. In Greek mythology,
Niobe boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and murdered her
children. Painters and sculptures have portrayed Niobe as a crying woman because of her guilt she
felt knowing she caused her children to die. The fact that Hamlet uses these comparisons suggests
his mother is undoubtedly responsible for his father's death. Finish and relate to thesis
Hamlet also compares himself to the demi god Hercules in Act 1 scene 2: "My father's brother– but
no more like my father/ Than I to Hercules" (I, ii, 152–153). This mythological allusion is important
because Hamlet is comparing himself to Hercules who is known as a strong warrior and earned a
place on Mount Olympus with the gods. Hamlet is saying that his uncle is very much different than
his father, like Hamlet is very much different than Hercules. Hercules is seen as a "superhero" of
Greek mythology, which is a great difference of Hamlet because Hamlet is in no way seen as a
"superhero" or someone to look up to. Hamlet

Cultural Values In The Odyssey
Thousands of peoples of thousands of cultures exist today. Each existing culture possesses customs
valuable to its people. One method of discovering the importance of certain customs to cultures is to
examine their literature. For example, Homer conveys many significant Greek customs throughout
the novel, The Odyssey. In his novel, he explains the importance of hospitality to the Greeks through
the actions of Circe, the goddess, when she takes care of Odysseus's men, and Maron when he
provides a gift of gratitude to Odysseus. A need for order and justification also exemplifies another
important custom of the Greeks.Author Homer utilizes examples of Odysseus's murdering of the
suitors who take over his home and Poseidon's punishment to Odysseus for hurting his son to
convey the importance of the importance of justice to the Greeks . Homer explains this importance
through a cause and effect punishment system from disobeying the gods orders. Piety models
another cultural value of the Greeks through Homer's book, which he explains through details of
Odysseus sacrifices, man's prayers to the gods, and mans humility to the gods' power. Through the
hospitality of Circe and Polyphemus, the need for order and justification in obeying the gods, and
piety for the gods orders, Homer reflects important customs to the Greeks in The Odyssey.
To commence, Homer conveys the importance of Greek hospitality through a goddess, Circe, and a
giant Cyclops, Polyphemus. Looking at Circe's

Analysis Of Walt Disney 's ' Snow White, Dumbo '
Walt Disney, animator, cartoonist, and entrepreneur, was a man of incredible vision and passion. He
fundamentally transformed the entertainment industry in America. Prior to Walt Disney Studios, the
art of animation was simply a "moving comic strip," void of sound or color and generally
constrained to short vignettes featuring friendly characters like cats. Disney was the first to innovate
a system of animation on a large–scale, capable of producing feature–length films. Snow White,
Dumbo, Pinocchio– these productions revolutionized the film industry in a way never seen
previously. Walt Disney continues to be a cultural phenomenon, a household name spoken to this
day by children across the world.
This romanticized image of Walt Disney conveniently forgets one of the darkest moments in the
famous visionary 's past. The day was May 29th, 1941. Over three hundred Disney Studios
employees walked out of their jobs and began to form picket lines surrounding the company
buildings. The strikers held high colorful signs featuring famous Disney cartoon characters like
Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck– one poster displayed a picture of Pluto the Dog, reading "I 'd
rather be a dog than a scab!" The workers marched on strike against Walt Disney Studios. The
outrage of Disney 's employees clearly demonstrated their unhappiness with the way the company 's
workers were being treated.

William Shakespeare 's Julius Caesar
EZ Julius Caesar was a crucial political figure that saw the fall of the Roman Republic and the rise
of the Roman empire. Through political strategy and military feats, Caesar seized significant power
and influence over Roman politics and eventually declared himself a "dictator in perpetuity". He
centralized the government, passed social and bureaucratic reform, and even created the Julian
calendar. However, he was soon assassinated by senators led by Marcus Brutus who stabbed him to
death, after which the empire underwent several civil wars. His death is considered by historians as
a watershed in Roman history, and one of the most influential assassinations in history. In
Shakespeare 's play Julius Caesar, Caesar 's death was preceded by numerous omens: a severe
thunderstorm, a bird of night screaming in a marketplace, and even a lion walking through the
streets. EZ Shakespeare alludes to Julius Caesar, in order to highlight the importance of King
Hamlet's death and also foreshadow the discovery of betrayal. One of the reasons that Caesar was
alluded to was to capture one of the themes of Hamlet: that everyone dies eventually. Like how King
Hamlet was going to die eventually, Julius Caesar dies too. It is this realization that is a major part in
Hamlet's grief driven quest for self–knowledge. Another reason that Caesar was alluded to is to
capture a similarity between Caesar's son and Hamlet. Both of their fathers were important leaders
that were murdered prematurely,

Allusions In Hamlet
Allowing one to see a comparison through a reference to something well–known rather than a few
descriptive words can strengthen one's understanding of the comparison to a great extent. These
references, or allusions, can incorporate an understanding that goes beyond what one work can
obtain. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, multiple allusions are used throughout the play to compare
the characters and extend the meanings or emotions behind actions. The texts most borrowed from
throughout the play are those of Greek mythology. Greek mythology contains an extensive amount
of stories that contain dramatic emotions and actions that allow Shakespeare to make strong
comparisons to throughout Hamlet. Therefore, by incorporating Greek mythology into Hamlet, one
is able to better understand the extent to which comparisons and emotions are made.
In one of Hamlet's soliloquies, he reflects back on a play about the history of the Trojan War.
Pyrrhus, son of Hercules, is used for Hamlet to compare himself to in his time of confusion. In the
allusion, Pyrrhus is out for revenge on those who killed his father, much like Hamlet's own situation.
In the play of Pyrrhus, it states "for lo! / His sword, which was declining on the milky head / of
reverend Priam, seemed i' the air to stick. / So as a painted tyrant, Pyrrhus stood, / and, like a neutral
to his will and matter, / did nothing" (II.ii.440–45) which Hamlet relates his own situation to.
Hamlet is at the point in the play where he knows what he has to do, but has yet to act. The effect of
alluding to this play in particular allows the audience to better understand what Hamlet is feeling.
Pyrrhus' play continues by saying " ... so, after Pyrrhus' pause, / Aroused vengeance sets him new
awork; / And never did the Cyclops' hammers fall / On Mars's armor, forged for proof eterne, / With
less remorse than Pyrrhus' bleeding sword / Now falls on Priam" (II.ii.450–55) showing how
Pyrrhus–after looking back on everything–chooses to act. He takes a pause to rethink the reason for
which he is getting revenge, and with his renewed anger, does what he came to do. This alluded play
allows Hamlet to see how a situation like his own was handled and reflect back on his actions up to

Helios Research Paper
Helios was the personification of the sun. He is a Greek Titan, and known as Sol in Roman
Mythology. His Hinduism equivalent is Surya. Each and every day Helios would bring up the sun.
There are legends and myths that Helios would return to the other side of the flat earth by floating
down the Ocean in a golden cup. Some myths claim that Apollo and Helios were the same person.
He was also said to see and hear all that happened down on the earth. This is because he could look
down and witness events and oaths being sworn.
Although the origin story of Helios is unclear, it is evident who his parents were. The parents of
Helios were Hyperion and Theia. Helios' father was Hyperion, the Titan god of heavenly light.
Theia, who was Hyperion's wife, was the Titan goddess of sight and the shining ether of the blue
sky. Helios was created from the celestial union of his parents. Helios had two sisters, Selene (the
goddess of the moon) and Eos (the goddess of dawn).
Helios was and still is commonly identified with Apollo. Apollo was a Greek Olympian, while
Helios was a Titan. Apollo was the god of music, poetry, truth and prophecy, healing, plague, and
more. Apollo is also said to be the god of light and the sun, but in Ancient Greek drawings Helios is

Mythological References in Hamlet
What's in a name? Hamlet's good friend and confidant Horatio is doomed by the etymology of his
nomenclature to give good speech. Shakespeare has gifted Horatio with an elegant lucidty that,
when inspected closely, enables the reader to better comprehend the nature of the play; one of his
first addresses is key in setting the tone of what James Joyce called "'the grave and constant' in
human suffering" (Campbell 8). This is also a principal theme of classical mythology, and to fully

A fascinating event like an eclipse was used to explain away strange behavior or portend odd
goings–on. It is believed that Hamlet was written no earlier than 1598. Around this time,
Copernicus' concept of a heliocentric universe was gaining strong popularity. It is possible that
Shakespeare might have been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around 1200,
it is more likely that a subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare's pen into
Horatio's intellect. With a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth move in their
orbits and how those movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have equated this with
motions and circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to perform a double duty. One,
he views the visitation of King Hamlet's host as "precurse to fierce events," almost like the calm
before the storm(within Neptune's empire). Something bad is going to happen: anytime you see a
ghost it is usually bad news. Two, he uses the phrase "Disasters in the sun" as a kind of prologue–
like epithet for Hamlet's light and to express the magnitude of the "omen coming on." The sun has
always been the most powerful sustaining force in nature and is (perhaps) thought to be

The Odyssey is a Greek word meaning 'the tale of Odysseus.'; Odysseus, the King of Ithaca;
husband of Penelope; father of Telemachus; and son of Laertes was not able to return home after the
war he was once in: the Trojan War. Stuck on an island, he is presumed dead. In his absence, suitors

with the help of the gods, gets home and regains his kingship. Justice is always harsh in the

When Odysseus departed from Calypso's island, Poseidon noticed and wrecked havoc using his
powers of the sea: '[Odysseus] heard the thunder of surf on a rocky coast. With an angry roar the
great seas were battering at the rocky land and all was veiled in spray. There were no coves, no
harbours, that would hold a ship; nothing but headlands jutting out, sheer rock and jagged reefs';
(pg. 81–82). Also after the Phaeacians had helped Odysseus, Poseidon punished them for their
kindness to his enemy. Hyperion, the sun god, loved his cattle and told Odysseus and his crew not to
eat them. When the crew was starving, they slaughtered and ate Hyperion's cows. Hyperion
demanded justice from the gods: 'Father Zeus and you other blessed gods who live for ever, take
vengeance on the followers of Odysseus. . . They have criminally killed my cattle, the cattle that
gave me such joy every day as I climbed the starry sky and as I dropped down from heaven and sank
once more to earth'; (pg. 190). Zeus answered Hyperion and killed all of Odysseus' crew. Aeolus had
given Odysseus a large leather bag, which contained the strong winds that could set them off course.
Odysseus' crew got curious and opened the bag. All the strong winds hurried them off course, and
they eventually landed back to Aeolus' island. They went to Aeolus and asked for help. However

The Sun God And Hercules Masculinity In Hamlet
Due to the death of his father and the remarriage of his mother, Hamlet must now be subservient to
his Uncle Claudius, for whom he has no respect. In his soliloquy, Hamlet contrasts his late father
with his uncle like a "Hyperion to a satyr, [...] My father's brother, but no more like my father than I
to Hercules"(1.2.140–153). To Hamlet, both Hyperion (the Sun God) and Hercules (a demigod)
represent the epitome of strength. In the case of Hercules, he embodies the patriarchal ideal of
masculinity––violent, dominant, and immortal. He promotes the image that men should be
unfeeling, undoubting, and all action and no words. This is the unattainable standard of masculinity
that men in Hamlet's society is subject to, since in order to be a "Real Man", that would require him
to to become a God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of being bold and brash, he is thoughtful, sensitive, and emotional, which are typically traits
reserved for women. As a result, the way that others perceive his mental instability is derived from
how much he falls short of male social expectations. His exhibition of emotions deemed unfit for
men, such as pain and vulnerability, identifies him as a social outlier. This vulnerability is triggered
by the sudden death of his father, which he vocalizes at his uncle's coronation. Hamlet complains
that he wished "the Everlasting had not fixed/ His canon 'gainst self–slaughter!" (1.2.131–132). In
this scenario, death equates inaction, since Hamlet cannot do anything if he kills himself. This
contrasts the male social expectations placed upon him, since he is expected to act on his father's
behalf by taking revenge on his enemies and inflicting outward damage. However, Hamlet chooses
to direct his frustrations inward, reflecting on his actions in long soliloquies and thinking about self–

The Moons Of Saturn : Orbital Motion
The moons of Saturn are numerous and diverse ranging from tiny moonlets less than 1 kilometer
across to the enormous Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury. Saturn has 62 moons with
confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50
kilometers (Porco 2009). Twenty–four of Saturn 's moons are regular satellites; they have prograde
orbits not greatly inclined to Saturn 's equatorial plane, while the other 38 are irregular satellites
(Turrini et al. 2009; Grav et al. 2015), whose orbits are much farther from Saturn, have high
inclinations, and mixed between prograde and retrograde orbits. 3.2.2 Theories of Saturnian'
Satellites
Several theories have described the orbital motion of the eight major satellites of Saturn (Mimas,
Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion and Japetus). Because of resonances, the theories
by Struve (1898 and 1933), Woltjer (1928) and Senclair (1977) described the motions of satellites in
pairs (e.g.: Mimas–Tethys, Enceladus–Dione, Rhea–Titan and Titan–Hyperin). Kozai(1957) and
Rapaport(1977) have improved such theories and adjusted their constants. Taylor (1984), Taylor et
al. (1987) and Harper (1988) have developed the theory of Hyperion and Iapetus by adding some of
missing terms. However, the above theories still not accurate and the residuals with observations
from the Earth are about (~1400 km) in the Saturnian system.

Hyperion translates into "watches from above" ("Hyperion–greek"). Hyperion held the east pillar,

the Titan god of the heavenly light and sun, Hyperion was also thought to be the first to understand

Keats And The Fall Of Hyperion Essay
In the description of historiographies and social theories in the longer poems of John Keats,
Kathleen Béres Rogers argues in "John Keats and the Ideas of the Enlightenment" that the
"sociological drive of [Keats's] poetry is an inheritance from the Enlightenment" (Rogers, 2012, p.
163). Here Fermanis tried to trace Keats's working both with and against of Enlightenment legacy
and in particular of its progressive, linear model of history. Keats's narrative provoked from a
savage, feudal society to an emphasis on sensation and feeling. Endymion was indebted much to the
Enlightenment and he used his sensitivity in order to sympathize with human suffering. He found

He wrote that Christine Gallant revealed the influence of faery myths and traditions on the final days

and he wished "that his grave be covered with daisies" (180). The flower daisy had been considered
a sun–symbol which had the power to protect against the faeries. After this, Gallant knew the spirit
of Keats's belief in the supernatural and particularly in Celtic Romanticism. For Keats supernatural
stood side–by–side with Classical myths as a tool in his poetry. However, the Celtic elements better

How Hamlet's First Soliloquy Effects the Audience Hamlet's first soliloquy in Act 1, Scene 2 is an
incredibly passionate and shocking passage. The passage is contrasting the artificial actions and
dialogues that Hamlet illustrates to his uncle Claudius through the entire play. The soliloquy reveals
Hamlet's melancholia and the reason for his anger, hatred, pain, and grief by explaining how
miserable his life seems. He misses his father deeply; he is disgusted by his mother and uncle's

Hamlet may be portraying his mother as a sort of Virgin Mary who was sexually untouched and un–

purity and grows to seed. Much of the imagery is dark, "rank", and "gross" (I.ii.140) which helps
create the sad mood that Hamlet is in. He uses an awful lot of juxtaposition, similes, and metaphors
to make it obviously clear the point he is trying to get across. Shakespeare seems to use these
comparisons in a fashion to make the difference between the two objects as blatant as possible, as
evidenced by the Hyperion/satyr comparison. Allusions are also used heavily throughout in order to

Essay On Hyperpectral Sensors
Hyperspectral remote sensing collects spectral images across the electromagnetic spectrum.
Hyperspectral remote sensing detects many more spectral bands than traditional multispectral
remote sensing. Hyperspectral imagers cover the visible, near infrared, short–wave infrared and

Hyperspectral sensors include the Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) and the

AVIRIS does this by discerning the fractional covers of bare soil, photosynthetic and non–

interface (Jia et al, 2006). AVIRIS data is very useful to researchers and land managers, yet data
availability is often a problem. Acquiring AVIRIS data for the exact area and growing season that a
researcher requires is often a challenge (Goetz, 2009). For this reason, hyperspectral satellite data
from the NASA EO–1 mission is more commonly used. The Hyperion hyperspectral imaging

International Crime And Jurisdiction In The United States

Homer's Odyssey: The Children Of Hyperion
Children of Hyperion Ouch! Screamed the tiny creatures of Oceanus as the rays of Helios, the sun
god, blinded their sight. Then night approached, and the goddess of the moon, Selene, came out to
give light to the darkness. As the end of night began, Eos, the goddess of dawn, used her rays of
light to disperse the mists of the night. Helios, Eos, and Selene, the children of Hyperion, were each
unique and had interesting abilities. The titan Hyperion had three children with his consort Theia.
His first child was his son Helios. He was known as the god of the sun and the god of sight.
Hyperion dreamed of having a family that consisted of only strong men, but, sadly, for him Helios
was his only son. The world was soon blessed with Eos, the goddess of dawn. ... Show more content

His appearance was one known for a prince or king. With a handsome face and a body that was
clothed in purple robes, he was respected as royalty. His head was also crowned with the areola of
the sun. Helios dwells in the city of Oceanus. His responsibility was to give light to the world. His
journey began with him rising in the east. Then he traveled across the sky in the chariot of the sun,
shining his rays upon the earth. Finally he ends the journey by descending into a golden cup that
took him through the northern streams of Oceanus back to his rising place in the east. The family of
Helios included his consorts and children. Many believed that Helios was never satisfied with the
amount of consorts he had, which resulted in him having a total of five. Although Helios had seven
sons, Phaethon was always his favorite. Phaethon was the oldest and resembled Helios the most out
of his seven sons. One day Phaethon disobeyed Helios. Phaethon attempted to drive the chariot of
the sun, and when he failed he set the world ablaze. Zeus became angry at him and struck the boy
with a bolt of lightning. Helios lived a life filled with many responsibilities, royalty, and sometimes

The Role Of The Titans In Greek Mythology

  • 1. The Role Of The Titans In Greek Mythology The Titans had very important roles and contributions to Greek Mythology as it is known today. Many have heard of Greek Mythology, but with very little Information and understanding of these certain Greek Gods, who had a major factor in the rise of mysticism. Because of their certain powers and upbringing, Titans had major roles in the society. Without having a major part in the formation , Greek Mythology may have not been the same. The Titans originally consisted of twelve gods and goddesses: Six male and six females, who were inherited by Gaea (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Father Jupiter). The Titans were Kronos, Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, Coeus, Creus, Theia, Rhea, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys, and Themis. Kronus, the youngest among the Titans, overthrew his Father Uranus , which led him to become king and having his son Zeus betray him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the first generation Titans began to elope after Kronus had defeated the first generations father . Kronus and Rhea had six: Hestia, Zeus, Demeter, Hades, Hera and Poseidon. Just like Kronus had done many years before, Zeus had also turned on his father. Hyperion and Theia bore three: Helios, Selene and Eos. Coeus and Phoebe had two: Asteria and Leto. Oceanus and Tethys had Oceanids and Potamoi. However not all the siblings eloped. In fact, some of the original Titans eloped with the second generation Titans or married others unrelated of their kind. Iapetus and Clymene hadPromethius, Epimetheus, Atlas, Menoetius. Mnemosyne and Zeus had the Muses (Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania.) Crius and Eurybia had three: Persus, Pallace and Astraeus. • 2. Percy Jackson's Monologue A/N Sorry for the wait, I had to go to a party plus I just got Overwatch. Disclaimer: I do not own PJO or HoO. Percy I hurtled through the ground faster than a jet, homing in on the power signal of Kronos and his fellow titans where they were stationed in Canada to make it harder for the gods to find them. I grinned because they were all in one place, which would make it much easier to slaughter all of them. I burst out of the ground to see Kronos, Hyperion, and Krios staring at me. My grin only widened as pieces of the building and the ground around them began battering at the titans, causing them to bleed in several locations. However, I could feel my initial burst of power and rage diminishing and Kronos froze time, stopping my charge and slowing the hurricane to wind speeds of 158 mph. Suddenly, Artemis flashed into the room with her hunters. She quickly analyzed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is actually a rather agreeable person." Aphrodite giggled every time Percy's name was mentioned. Poseidon raised an eyebrow at Dionysus who said, "The little brat saved us. He deserves more than banishment. They began to talk about how they could fix the problem, but Zeus was the King of the Gods and would make them mortal the instant they appeared to go against him. They eventually decided to try to find where Perseus had teleported to. Poseidon gave them each a room near his own in the palace and they all left to sleep, except for Athena. They had begun growing closer to the point where it could not longer be called a friendship. He kissed her and she returned it for several long seconds before they climbed into bed together and settled down for the night. Percy Alaska "They can't find us here. I brought us to Alaska." • 3. Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad Xenia is an obligatory, socially– regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god– fearing hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably– this then transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. It is the recipient's responsibility to treat the host with respect, as they are visitors. I assert that xenia has a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory because respect is the foundation of xenia; these effects can be seen throughout The Iliad and The Odyssey, particularly in the interactions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spoils were an important part of war during the time of The Iliad, and could be items of value or people. Chryses was a priest of Apollo, whose daughter was taken as a spoil for Agamemnon, a Greek warlord. Chryses approached Agamemnon about taking his daughter home, but Agamemnon refused (Homer The Iliad 1.24–32). Agamemnon's refusal itself did not violate xenia, but his disrespect of Chryses did: "Agamemnon was not pleased And dismissed Chryses with a rough speech: 'Don't ever let me catch you, old man, by these ships again, Sulking around now or sneaking back later. The god's staff and ribbons won't save you next time.' " (Homer The Iliad 1.33–37). As Chryses was a priest of Apollo, he beseeched Apollo to seek revenge against Agamemnon and the Greeks. Apollo answered his prayer and decimated the Greeks with a plague (Homer, The Iliad, 1.45–51, 61–62). The plague was a consequence of Agamemnon's brash reaction to Chryses' peaceful solicitation for the return of his daughter, which infringed upon the mutual respect aspect of ... • 4. Rationalism In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales The duration of the novels, the characters are seen lamenting their pasts and longing for a future, ready for whatever seems to be awaiting them. The journey that the pilgrims takes and the stories they tell attempts to reconcile their purpose for the journey. At the same time they reconcile their pasts, and not just their pasts but also the past of humanity. The underling issue of the novel is that the characters are unable to properly grieve for their pasts and it is ultimately recreated in an odd, intergalactic colonialism that causes a war. To begin, Pearl is a poem that is contemporary to Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales of which this novel is loosely based on. But Pearl is a dream– vision/debate poem about a father who laments the death of his daughter. He falls asleep and has a vision of her as a queen in heaven. They debate about rationalism, but ultimately the debate does not have a real conclusion that comes to a satisfactory end. The emphasis of the poem is that all things are rational through faith whether or not the individual understands. There are multiple dialogues like this in Hyperion. The Bikura have dialogues like this on two occasions, once after they killed Tuk and again while figuring out what to do with Duré after he snuck off to the Cleft. When Duré aske why they killed Tuk, they gave no specific answer "'Your companion died the true death. You did not.' [...] 'Why not? Why didn't you kill me?' [...] 'You cannot be killed because you cannot die, you cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Mere Nature Of The Soliloquy By William Shakespeare The mere nature of the soliloquy is to enter the thoughts of a specific character It is a simple idea. It would make sense that Shakespeare employs this literary method to reveal something about Hamlet's own internal struggle in any given soliloquy. Hamlet is an conflicted and self–disparaging individual who often finds himself toiling with his own ideas and movies frequently. But the first soliloquy is used to reveal to the audience that Hamlet is furious at his mother and Claudius, even before he learns his father was supposedly murdered by the new king. The fury toward Claudius and Gertrude alone is enough to make Hamlet even contemplate suicide, "Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd/ His canon 'gainst self–slaughter" (Shakespeare, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By comparing corruption to a rotting plant, Shakespeare manages to insert a large, overarching theme into a few sentences of a soliloquy. While there is micro–juxtaposition in the sentences and metaphors in the soliloquy, the first passionate soliloquy provides a striking contrast to the artificial dialogue that Hamlet must exchange with Claudius in court. The juxtaposition of tone emphasizes how rules and customs of the royal court that foster corruption. Shakespeare also juxtaposes spiritual things and earthly things,"O, that this is too too sullied flesh would melt,/ Thaw and resolve itself into dew" (10). Hamlet is disgusted by the earthly flesh he has to live in and wishes to be something pure and spiritual like dew. The earthly things to hamlet, like soil and weeds, are gruesome. To Hamlet, the world is corrupt and so are the people in it. Shakespeare juxtaposes the earthly with the divine in order to show how Hamlet, while he wanting to be pure, is trapped on earth by some obligation, such as a "canon 'gainst self–slaughter"(10). The ban on suicide is also a symbol for Hamlet's obligation to stay in the royal court until things are set right. Allusion is also implemented to emphasize the corruption that is slowly taking over the Royal court. Shakespeare has Hamlet compare his father, his mother, and his uncle all to different Greek and Roman mythological figures. Hamlet firsts makes the comparison of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From these two, twelve titans were born. The titans then went on to birth their own offspring. Selene was born to the two titans Hyperion and Theia. Hyperion was the god of heavenly light while Theia was the goddess of sight and wide–shining light, the combination of these created a goddess to light the night sky. In the myth, it is said that every night she drove her great chariot across the sky to light up the moon. INTERESTING FACTS Selene has an element in the Periodic Table whose name was stemmed from hers. This element is Selenium (Se) with an atomic number of 34. It was given its name because the element has a metallic gray look, similar to the moon. Selenium is also used as a dietary supplement. She also has a mineral named after her: Selenite. For the sales organization there are three database options available to us; Hyperion®, Access®, and our most widely used tool, BusinessObjects by SAP. • 8. Most Important Titan Gods The Titans There are 12 first generation titans. The Titans (males) were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius and Iapetus. The Titanesses (females) were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis. A common question asked is "who is the most important Titan god?" Hyperion is the most important Titan god. The three most important Titan gods are Hyperion, Mnemosyne, and Cronus. Hyperion is the god of heavenly light. He is also thought of as the one who cycles the sun. "Hyperion, as a Titan son of Heaven, was probably also viewed as the primal god who first ordered the cycles of sun, moon and dawn, establishing the regular rhythm of days and months. His brother Krios, on the other hand, presided over the ordering of the heavenly constellations and so in a complimentary manner ordered the year and the cycle of seasons" (HYPERION). Mnemosyne is the goddess of memory, and time. "Mnemosyne was also a goddess of time. She represented the rote memorisation required to preserve the stories of history and the sagas of myth before the introduction of writing. In this role she was the mother of the Mousai (Muses) who were originally patron goddesses of poets of the oral tradition" (MNEMOSYNE). Cronus is the God of time, and the king of all Titans. • 15. Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment... Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man–made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. Geology of Santa Monica Beach There is relatively little information on the natural geological history of Santa Monica State Beach; however, there is an explanation as to why. The humanitarian poets are "those to whom the miseries of the world / Are misery, and will not let them rest" (I, 147–48). The humanitarian poets are the highest type because they keep sympathy with their fellows but the poet– narrator is a dreamer, "a dreaming thing" (I, 168). Due to his knowledge of suffering he is able to sympathize with the fallen Titans' pain and sorrow. Throughout the play, Hamlet uses many mythological allusions to show his feelings towards other characters such as Claudius, Gertrude and the old king as well as inform us of his "fall". Hamlet uses Hecuba to exaggerate the difference between the queen in the play who is full of grief and sorrow, and Queen Gertrude who has remarried quickly and shows little to no emotion for the death of her first husband. Another example occurs during Hamlet's soliloquy when he imagines his mother, "Like Niobe, all tears" (Ham. I. ii. 151). Hamlet not only wishes his mother would mourn and take revenge, but he also implies responsibility for his father's death. In Greek mythology, Niobe boasted she had many children and as a result, the gods came down and murdered her children. Painters and sculptures have portrayed Niobe as a crying woman because of her guilt she felt knowing she caused her children to die. The fact that Hamlet uses these comparisons suggests his mother is undoubtedly responsible for his father's death. Finish and relate to thesis Hamlet also compares himself to the demi god Hercules in Act 1 scene 2: "My father's brother– but no more like my father/ Than I to Hercules" (I, ii, 152–153). This mythological allusion is important because Hamlet is comparing himself to Hercules who is known as a strong warrior and earned a place on Mount Olympus with the gods. Hamlet is saying that his uncle is very much different than his father, like Hamlet is very much different than Hercules. Through political strategy and military feats, Caesar seized significant power and influence over Roman politics and eventually declared himself a "dictator in perpetuity". He centralized the government, passed social and bureaucratic reform, and even created the Julian calendar. However, he was soon assassinated by senators led by Marcus Brutus who stabbed him to death, after which the empire underwent several civil wars. His death is considered by historians as a watershed in Roman history, and one of the most influential assassinations in history. In Shakespeare 's play Julius Caesar, Caesar 's death was preceded by numerous omens: a severe thunderstorm, a bird of night screaming in a marketplace, and even a lion walking through the streets. EZ Shakespeare alludes to Julius Caesar, in order to highlight the importance of King Hamlet's death and also foreshadow the discovery of betrayal. One of the reasons that Caesar was alluded to was to capture one of the themes of Hamlet: that everyone dies eventually. Like how King Hamlet was going to die eventually, Julius Caesar dies too. • 27. Allusions In Hamlet Allowing one to see a comparison through a reference to something well–known rather than a few descriptive words can strengthen one's understanding of the comparison to a great extent. These references, or allusions, can incorporate an understanding that goes beyond what one work can obtain. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, multiple allusions are used throughout the play to compare the characters and extend the meanings or emotions behind actions. The texts most borrowed from throughout the play are those of Greek mythology. Greek mythology contains an extensive amount of stories that contain dramatic emotions and actions that allow Shakespeare to make strong comparisons to throughout Hamlet. Therefore, by incorporating Greek mythology into Hamlet, one is able to better understand the extent to which comparisons and emotions are made. In one of Hamlet's soliloquies, he reflects back on a play about the history of the Trojan War. Pyrrhus, son of Hercules, is used for Hamlet to compare himself to in his time of confusion. In the allusion, Pyrrhus is out for revenge on those who killed his father, much like Hamlet's own situation. In the play of Pyrrhus, it states "for lo! / His sword, which was declining on the milky head / of reverend Priam, seemed i' the air to stick. / So as a painted tyrant, Pyrrhus stood, / and, like a neutral to his will and matter, / did nothing" (II.ii.440–45) which Hamlet relates his own situation to. Hamlet is at the point in the play where he knows what he has to do, but has yet to act. The effect of alluding to this play in particular allows the audience to better understand what Hamlet is feeling. Pyrrhus' play continues by saying " ... so, after Pyrrhus' pause, / Aroused vengeance sets him new awork; / And never did the Cyclops' hammers fall / On Mars's armor, forged for proof eterne, / With less remorse than Pyrrhus' bleeding sword / Now falls on Priam" (II.ii.450–55) showing how Pyrrhus–after looking back on everything–chooses to act. Around this time, Copernicus' concept of a heliocentric universe was gaining strong popularity. It is possible that Shakespeare might have been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around 1200, it is more likely that a subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare's pen into Horatio's intellect. With a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth move in their orbits and how those movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have equated this with motions and circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to perform a double duty. One, he views the visitation of King Hamlet's host as "precurse to fierce events," almost like the calm before the storm(within Neptune's empire). Something bad is going to happen: anytime you see a ghost it is usually bad news. Two, he uses the phrase "Disasters in the sun" as a kind of prologue– like epithet for Hamlet's light and to express the magnitude of the "omen coming on." The sun has always been the most powerful sustaining force in nature and is (perhaps) thought to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Odyssey Essay The Odyssey is a Greek word meaning 'the tale of Odysseus.'; Odysseus, the King of Ithaca; husband of Penelope; father of Telemachus; and son of Laertes was not able to return home after the war he was once in: the Trojan War. Stuck on an island, he is presumed dead. In his absence, suitors for his wife ruin his house with lavish feasts. This epic poem, by Homer, describes how Odysseus, with the help of the gods, gets home and regains his kingship. Justice is always harsh in the Odyssey; there is either no justice or a lot of it; the punishment however, is always severe. Justice in the Odyssey plays out among these characters: Odysseus and his crew, the suitors, Poseidon, Aeolus, Hyperion, Agamemnon, Aegisthus, Melanthius, Melantho, ... When Odysseus departed from Calypso's island, Poseidon noticed and wrecked havoc using his powers of the sea: '[Odysseus] heard the thunder of surf on a rocky coast. With an angry roar the great seas were battering at the rocky land and all was veiled in spray. There were no coves, no harbours, that would hold a ship; nothing but headlands jutting out, sheer rock and jagged reefs'; (pg. 81–82). Also after the Phaeacians had helped Odysseus, Poseidon punished them for their kindness to his enemy. Hyperion, the sun god, loved his cattle and told Odysseus and his crew not to eat them. When the crew was starving, they slaughtered and ate Hyperion's cows. Hyperion demanded justice from the gods: 'Father Zeus and you other blessed gods who live for ever, take vengeance on the followers of Odysseus. . . They have criminally killed my cattle, the cattle that gave me such joy every day as I climbed the starry sky and as I dropped down from heaven and sank once more to earth'; (pg. 190). Zeus answered Hyperion and killed all of Odysseus' crew. Aeolus had given Odysseus a large leather bag, which contained the strong winds that could set them off course. Odysseus' crew got curious and opened the bag. All the strong winds hurried them off course, and they eventually landed back to Aeolus' island. They went to Aeolus and asked for help. • 35. The Sun God And Hercules Masculinity In Hamlet Due to the death of his father and the remarriage of his mother, Hamlet must now be subservient to his Uncle Claudius, for whom he has no respect. In his soliloquy, Hamlet contrasts his late father with his uncle like a "Hyperion to a satyr, [...] My father's brother, but no more like my father than I to Hercules"(1.2.140–153). To Hamlet, both Hyperion (the Sun God) and Hercules (a demigod) represent the epitome of strength. In the case of Hercules, he embodies the patriarchal ideal of masculinity––violent, dominant, and immortal. He promotes the image that men should be unfeeling, undoubting, and all action and no words. This is the unattainable standard of masculinity that men in Hamlet's society is subject to, since in order to be a "Real Man", that would require him to to become a God. ... As a result, the way that others perceive his mental instability is derived from how much he falls short of male social expectations. His exhibition of emotions deemed unfit for men, such as pain and vulnerability, identifies him as a social outlier. This vulnerability is triggered by the sudden death of his father, which he vocalizes at his uncle's coronation. Hamlet complains that he wished "the Everlasting had not fixed/ His canon 'gainst self–slaughter!" (1.2.131–132). In this scenario, death equates inaction, since Hamlet cannot do anything if he kills himself. This contrasts the male social expectations placed upon him, since he is expected to act on his father's behalf by taking revenge on his enemies and inflicting outward damage. However, Hamlet chooses to direct his frustrations inward, reflecting on his actions in long soliloquies and thinking about self– harm and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Moons Of Saturn : Orbital Motion The moons of Saturn are numerous and diverse ranging from tiny moonlets less than 1 kilometer across to the enormous Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury. Saturn has 62 moons with confirmed orbits, 53 of which have names and only 13 of which have diameters larger than 50 kilometers (Porco 2009). Twenty–four of Saturn 's moons are regular satellites; they have prograde orbits not greatly inclined to Saturn 's equatorial plane, while the other 38 are irregular satellites (Turrini et al. 2009; Grav et al. 2015), whose orbits are much farther from Saturn, have high inclinations, and mixed between prograde and retrograde orbits. 3.2.2 Theories of Saturnian' Satellites Several theories have described the orbital motion of the eight major satellites of Saturn (Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion and Japetus). Because of resonances, the theories by Struve (1898 and 1933), Woltjer (1928) and Senclair (1977) described the motions of satellites in pairs (e.g.: Mimas–Tethys, Enceladus–Dione, Rhea–Titan and Titan–Hyperin). Kozai(1957) and Rapaport(1977) have improved such theories and adjusted their constants. Taylor (1984), Taylor et al. (1987) and Harper (1988) have developed the theory of Hyperion and Iapetus by adding some of missing terms. However, the above theories still not accurate and the residuals with observations from the Earth are about (~1400 km) in the Saturnian system. The name Hyperion translates into "watches from above" ("Hyperion–greek"). Hyperion held the east pillar, was apart of the Titan family tree, and helps separate the heavens from the earth. As well as being the Titan god of the heavenly light and sun, Hyperion was also thought to be the first to understand the movement of the sun, moon, stars, and seasons ("Hyperion"). Because of these discoveries, Hyperion was the father of the sun, moon, and dawn (Waterfield 19). Hyperion had one main responsibility in Greek mythology. Keats And The Fall Of Hyperion Essay In the description of historiographies and social theories in the longer poems of John Keats, Kathleen Béres Rogers argues in "John Keats and the Ideas of the Enlightenment" that the "sociological drive of [Keats's] poetry is an inheritance from the Enlightenment" (Rogers, 2012, p. 163). Here Fermanis tried to trace Keats's working both with and against of Enlightenment legacy and in particular of its progressive, linear model of history. Keats's narrative provoked from a savage, feudal society to an emphasis on sensation and feeling. He wrote that Christine Gallant revealed the influence of faery myths and traditions on the final days of Keats: "In Rome, Severn linked together candles so that as one burned down another was lit" (Mckenna, 2009, p. 180). The flower daisy had been considered a sun–symbol which had the power to protect against the faeries. After this, Gallant knew the spirit of Keats's belief in the supernatural and particularly in Celtic Romanticism. • 39. How Hamlet's First Soliloquy Effects The Audience How Hamlet's First Soliloquy Effects the Audience Hamlet's first soliloquy in Act 1, Scene 2 is an incredibly passionate and shocking passage. The passage is contrasting the artificial actions and dialogues that Hamlet illustrates to his uncle Claudius through the entire play. The soliloquy reveals Hamlet's melancholia and the reason for his anger, hatred, pain, and grief by explaining how miserable his life seems. He misses his father deeply; he is disgusted by his mother and uncle's marriage, and feels horrible about his whole situation wishing he was dead. Shakespeare is using different types of literal in Hamlet's soliloquy to connect with the audience by revealing indirect information like juxtaposition, metaphor, and imagery. Hamlet ... This would make Claudius into a Satan–like figure that breaches the garden with his bed "stewed in corruption" (III.iv.93) and she loses her purity and grows to seed. Much of the imagery is dark, "rank", and "gross" (I.ii.140) which helps create the sad mood that Hamlet is in. He uses an awful lot of juxtaposition, similes, and metaphors to make it obviously clear the point he is trying to get across. Shakespeare seems to use these comparisons in a fashion to make the difference between the two objects as blatant as possible, as evidenced by the Hyperion/satyr comparison. • 40. Essay On Hyperpectral Sensors Hyperspectral remote sensing collects spectral images across the electromagnetic spectrum. Hyperspectral remote sensing detects many more spectral bands than traditional multispectral remote sensing. Hyperspectral imagers cover the visible, near infrared, short–wave infrared and thermal infrared spectral ranges which are useful for studying vegetation (Schlerf et al, 2012). Hyperspectral sensors include the Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) and the EO–1 satellite, both of which are owned and operated by NASA. These sensors have a higher spectral resolution and are better able to estimate the biophysical characteristics of vegetation than multispectral sensors such as MODIS and Landsat (Thenkabail et al, 2000). These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... AVIRIS does this by discerning the fractional covers of bare soil, photosynthetic and non– photosynthetic vegetation at a sub–pixel level. AVIRIS has high spatial and spectral resolution that can map fuel materials and improve fire risk assessment, even around the complex urban/wildland interface (Jia et al, 2006). AVIRIS data is very useful to researchers and land managers, yet data availability is often a problem. Acquiring AVIRIS data for the exact area and growing season that a researcher requires is often a challenge (Goetz, 2009). For this reason, hyperspectral satellite data from the NASA EO–1 mission is more commonly used. The Hyperion hyperspectral imaging spectrometer is part of the NASA EO–1 mission. The EO–1mission is part of the New Millennium Program which is a program designed to drastically reduce the cost of satellite remote sensing while improving the instrumentation quality. The EO–1 platform was launched on November 24, 2000 and it now contains the Advanced Land Imager and the LEISAAtmospheric Corrector in addition to the Hyperion Imaging Spectrometer.
