The Ring Analysis Presentation
1.
2. Titling The logo of the “Dream works” is set at night and its gloomy and looks quite scary, due to colour lighting etc. its all dark. The first noise we hear is of Rain. No credits or titles until the end of the film so leaves us at edge on what it is about etc. Camera Movement First the camera zooms into the window where we assume the noise of the female is coming from. When we first see the two females it’s a steady shot at eye level and is using zoom lenses. The audience see lots of tracking shots and also panning shots when females walking in the massage otherwise there's not much camera movement because the audience are seeing the females straight out of the TV. screen which shows us an insight of the females. Framing of Shot Using a two medium shot to show both characters
3. Camera Angles Just using an eye level shot so looks like we are filming them from the TV which is eye level. Makes the audience wonder who is watching the characters. We see both characters at one angle at all time so there for not much camera movement and different angles. Mise-en-scène We know the room is a teenage girls room by the furniture such as the bed Is still a single to show the innocents of the girl. Also the lighting is constantly flashing dark to light so again makes the audience wonder what’s causing this for example the weather or is it trying to hide something. Also such things as the weather shows help is far away because makes harder for travel in a thunder storm. The lighting of the room also affect the mood of the audience because it’s a dark night makes the audience feel on edge.
4. Sound techniques Actor’s positioning and movement Non diegetic sound of the rain to emphasis the weather and help is far. When character 1 is telling her friend about the film there is a silence to show the awkwardness and that she’s scared of the story. Then noise of the TV also shows affect, when the girls turn on the TV and it just fuzzes it makes the audience recognize something is wrong with the TV. Not much movement from them until the story is told and before they looked very open and comfortable on the bed as soon as the story gets told the body language turns scared and curls up. Positioning of the characters only changes once the “Myth” is told otherwise movement is unknown. Where is the story set? What does this tell you about the genre of the film? The story is set in a teenage bedroom, in a deserted lonely house. We know this by the single bed within the bedroom which also tells us she is innocent, This tells us about the genre that something unusual is going to happen. How Many Principle Characters? The audience get introduced to two main principle characters. Both female teenagers in school uniform. Both young females shows they could be vulnerable.
