This document provides a preface and overview of the book "The Republic Reengineered" by N. U. M. Akramul Kabir Khan. It argues that secular democracy cannot protect universal human rights on its own and a system of "moral democracy" is needed instead that incorporates religious values. It presents models for an education system, economic system, and remuneration system for a proposed unified social system based on Islamic principles. The goal is to gradually replace all existing states with this model or equivalent systems that suit different contexts.
This document lists various sight words that are commonly found in children's reading materials to help with early reading skills, including words like sepia, while, cent, building, ignored, choice, and sincerely.

Making sustainable food choices easier for consumersFrancois Stepman
This document discusses ways to make sustainable food choices easier for consumers. It outlines BEUC's vision of a sustainable food system that guarantees safe, affordable and healthy food for all while respecting the earth's capacity. The document notes that while consumers are concerned about food challenges, they struggle to make sustainable choices due to limited availability, higher prices and unclear labeling. It proposes several actions to address this, including: raising consumer awareness of food production; providing understandable labeling; cutting food waste through better date labeling and campaigns; and making healthy eating less challenging through supportive environments and increased availability of sustainable options. The document calls for ongoing consumer research to ensure solutions meet consumer needs.
The nutrition department of Liverpool John Moores University was awarded the 2011 ECOG and Louis Bonduelle Research Award for their "SportsLinx" study on childhood obesity. This study monitored the eating habits of over 6,000 children in Liverpool schools since 2008, and found increases in fruit and vegetable consumption. ECOG and the Louis Bonduelle Foundation have partnered for three years to offer a €10,000 prize for research on childhood obesity, which impacts over 22 million children in the EU.

Ontario public libraries play a critical role in communities' success. The Federation of Ontario Public Libraries (FOPL) advocates for libraries and ensures a unified voice. FOPL has made progress in developing learning resources for staff, analyzing library data, marketing libraries, and increasing government influence. Going forward, FOPL aims to further promote library value, continue board training, implement marketing campaigns, and engage with government on priority issues like funding and e-resources.
The document discusses how school libraries can support public health literacy. It notes that many adults have low health literacy and patients are being asked to self-manage their care. This document discusses lengths of diagnosis-specific sickness absence as predictors of diagnosis-specific disability retirement in different socio-economic groups in Finland. It finds that longer sickness absence predicts higher risk of disability retirement, and this relationship varies by diagnosis and socio-economic group. Specifically, those with mental health disorders or musculoskeletal diseases have higher rates of both sickness absence and disability retirement. Further, those in lower socio-economic groups generally have higher rates of disability retirement. The study uses Finnish register data to analyze how the probability of transitioning from sickness absence to disability retirement changes as the number of sickness absence days accumulates, and how this varies between socio-economic groups.

Gender Levers at the State-Market Nexus: Bringing Organizations Back InTITA research
The document discusses gender equality within the context of social investment strategies in the EU. It makes three key points:
1) Social investment strategies that focus on increasing individual human capital do not necessarily promote gender equality, as they do not address how organizations sort women and men into different jobs and reward structures.
2) EU gender equality objectives for 2016-2019 emphasize increasing women's participation but do not adequately address organizational factors like occupational sorting that contribute to economic inequalities.
3) Future strategies would benefit from greater focus on positive discrimination policies and analyses of how organizational factors magnify or minimize gender inequalities using new linked employee-employer data.
Unemployment vs. sickness absence as predictors of disability retirement: a f...TITA research
Unemployment and sickness absence are predictors of disability retirement. This study compared the predictive power of unemployment versus sickness absence on disability retirement in Finland. It found that both increasing lengths of unemployment and sickness absence predicted higher risks of disability retirement, with sickness absence being a slightly stronger predictor. Unemployment was found to predict disability retirement risk, especially for mental health conditions. The study concluded that preventive efforts should target the long-term unemployed to address gradual losses of work ability early.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

The Reference Budgets
• RB’s are list of goods and services that a family of specified size and
composition would need to live at a designated level of well-being together
with the estimated annual or monthly costs of those goods and services.
• A commodity basket includes all consumption items required to attain and
maintain a certain standard of living.
• First RBs in 2010, updating in 2013 and 2015 by CPI
Aim of the study
1. Revise the contents of existing nine commodity baskets for reference
households
2. Extend the budgets by two reference households
3. Update the prices

Basis for commodity baskets
Starting point of decent minimum RBs
• What kind of consumption is required to maintain individuals’
physical and mental health and provide them the possibility of
full participation in the prevalent way in today’s (Finnish)
society?
Needs, capabilities, participation, consumption:
• Sen’s (1985,1993) capability approach
Ø means and opportunities, central capabilities (Nussbaum 2011)
• A theory of human need by Doyal & Gough (1991)
Ø basic needs, intermediate needs

Reference budgets
”Drawing up inventories of highly specified items, giving numbers to them,
allocating lifetimes, processing them and putting them into lists,
incorporating them in the budget and adding them up, is time consuming,
tedious and unexiting job….It is far more demanding than secondary data
analysis and probably as demanding as survey research. It is big social
science, it takes considerable effort, expertice, and imagination. ”
