The document provides a brief description of each strength, highlighting how each one shows up in his work and life. It explains that his Arranger strength allows him to effectively adapt to changing situations. His Achiever strength drives him to accomplish tasks every day. Positivity makes him optimistic and enthusiastic. Ideation means he enjoys generating new ideas. And Self-Assurance gives him confidence in his own perspective and decisions.
This document is the August 2015 issue of the TOPS Newsletter, published by the Government of Ontario. It contains several articles on managing emotions in the workplace, including managing change, repairing damaged work relationships, and incorporating humor and mindfulness. It also profiles the Secretary of the Cabinet, Steve Orsini, and discusses his views on stress, challenges, and improving diversity in public sector hiring. The editor shares a humorous anecdote about having allergies during an interview.
The document is a chapter from a book about eliminating limiting beliefs about money and success. It introduces 103 common disempowering beliefs and has the reader rate how true each one feels. Scaling a business is a leadership challenge. This is the message that this amazing book leaves you with, how though do we do that? Musings - that stream of thought that arrives from any direction as we read, take-in information and process it - are captured in a slidedeck that will hopefully act as an aide memoir but also as a catalyst for you to read the work.
My notes and musing around this valuable book on the leadership challenges around scaling an organisation. These are my notes, my comments and insights, but the work is that of Robert I Sutton and Rao Hayagreeva, their case studies, their thinking and sometimes their words.
Naeem Zafar is an experienced entrepreneur and professor who has started and advised many companies. He shares that one obvious lesson for startup success is to have passion for your idea. However, a less obvious but equally important lesson is having a supportive spouse or partner who understands the demanding lifestyle of an entrepreneur, which can play a vital role in an entrepreneur's success. Understanding from family is critical given the irrational amounts of time and energy entrepreneurship requires.
This document provides an introduction to a 10-question e-course designed to help people facing big life changes, such as career transitions, make choices aligned with their values and purpose. The e-course guides users to slow down, focus internally, and connect with who they are, what they want, and their vision and values. This process is meant to reduce fear and enable more satisfying decisions in the face of challenging crossroads. Key aspects covered include reflecting on what currently works well, dreaming about desires, identifying one's qualities and talents, and envisioning one's purpose and future.
Gideon F. For-mukwai presented at a Business Conference in Singapore on using storytelling to promote a business. Storytelling is an effective way to introduce ideas and persuade new supporters to join a cause. A good story should identify the founder's origins and goals, highlight defining moments that shaped their values, and convey lessons of humility. Stories should realign with the audience through an engaging opening and memorable closing. Crafting stories with rhetorical devices makes the message more appealing and impactful.

The Power of Moments Book Exploration by Laurie HawkinsLaurie Hawkins
Chip and Dan Heath's book explores how to create meaningful "defining moments" through four key elements: elevation, insights, pride, and connection. Defining moments can occur during transitions, milestones, or difficulties ("pits"). To build memorable positive experiences ("peaks"), one must first address any negative moments and then design experiences that boost sensory appeal, raise stakes, and break expectations. Creating insights involves sparking realizations for others or stretching oneself. Moments of pride result from recognizing others' accomplishments or practicing courage.

Key aspects involve observing oneself, choosing behavior over being run by thoughts, and standing in a creative place called "now what?" after examining what's happening and adding meaning.

Reboot Podcast #44 – We are Designed to Fail – with Nicholas Russell and Jerr...rebootio
Startups fail, we hear that all the time. Failure is good, we hear that all the time too. But we rarely hear about the pain, the shame and the second-guessing that comes with it. Even worse, at least for me, we rarely hear about the opportunities that lie, or may lie in something ending beyond just a pivot or a lesson learnt. In that moment, reading that email on the bench, my feet hurting, I wished someone would have told me what I know now to be true. This startup failing is not proof that something is broken within you. In fact, it's an opening and an opportunity to find something new within you and for you.

CHAPTER ONE
DEFINING A
PIVOTAL MOMENT
“That was a memorable day to me, for it made great changes in me. But it is the same with any life. Imagine
one selected day struck out of it, and think how different its course would have been.
Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that
would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.”
― Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
What have been your Pivotal Moments?
Our path through life and career is riddled with twists, turns, backtracks and offshoots. And our journey
has been signposted by decisions avoided or taken; opportunities missed or seized; moments shrunk
from – or embraced.
Pivotal (ˈpivətᵊl) ADJECTIVE Of crucial importance.
Moment (ˈməʊmənt) NOUN A specific instant or point in time.
Let me ask you: what have been some of the pivotal moments in your life and career?
I'm guessing that when you really think about it, the dictionary definitions don’t go far enough; that we're
not just talking about the chronological landmarks of life: school exams, leaving for university, getting
married, having children.
We're talking about those fleeting yet deep moments when you realised something special was happening
or about to happen. Something that would determine a course for you.
So with those thoughts in mind: what would be your personal definition of a "Pivotal Moment"?
Self-Coaching Exercise 1.1: Create your personal and extended definition of the term "Pivotal Moment".
Keep the following questions in mind:
What are the essential ingredients that make a moment "pivotal"?
What stand-out characteristics distinguish a "pivotal moment"?
What sensory evidence (feelings) need to be included in your definition?

Designing the future
In my pivotal moment, one of the strongest feelings I had about the one course over the other was its
absolute harmony with the long-term vision I had for my future.
Often, we're not used to thinking so far ahead ("long-term" means at least 10 years), but it's essential if
we're to get a strong sense of direction.
Self-Coaching Exercise 1.3: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with?
What do you see? Feel? Hear from others? Say to yourself?
What have you achieved? What are you most pleased and proud to look back on?
What is most important to you, here and now?
How has your approach to the pivotal moments helped you get here?
Encapsulate your 10-yr vision in a few choice sentences. Then describe how the pivotal moments – and
your approach to them – have contributed to your success.
The importance of deeper thinking
So where are we? We've thought about our own definition of a "Pivotal Moment". We've looked at some of
the deeper sensory characteristics of our past pivotal moments. And we've considered how future pivotal
moments might contribute to our longer-term vision.
For some, it might feel like we've gotten a little off-track, here. That we've gone a little too deep when
what we're really interested in are practical steps to seize opportunities to build a successful career.
But there are 3 very good reasons for going deep with our thinking.
1. Our Intuition. We've underscored the importance of our intuitions when faced with a
pivotal moment. Our intuition is a powerful ally to our more "rational" decision-making
tactics. And ask any successful professional (including yourself): which of your best career
decisions were not guided by an impassioned inner voice?
2. Our Responses. We've brought into awareness our responses to the pivotal moments. What
we've had to do. What we've had to overcome. What we've been capable of in the past. This
thinking will be useful in developing our sense of possibility for future moments, as well as
helping maintain our motivation and resilience.
3. Our Themes. We're noticing common themes and characteristics of pivotal moments: some
internal; some external; some common to all of us; some just for us. A sensitivity to these
themes will help us spot the pivotal moments in our futures – some we would perhaps have
otherwise missed.
