THE PLANT LIFE CYCLE By: Christina Murray
SEEDS Standard 3, Objective 1a &1b. This lesson contained two indicators because it was partly a review. Students observed and drew pictures of plants and described the life cycle of local plants
SEEDLINGS For this lesson, I used Power point to help teach the six stages of the plant life cycle and to show the four different parts of plants. After the instruction they did a couple of activities to help solidify their understanding.
LEAVES I had a slide showing a bunch of different plants and all of their parts and also a slide for each of the 6 stages of the plant life cycle. The power point was beneficial in the fact that it provided students with visual examples of what we were talking about, it helped organize the information, and it helped hold student’s attention and motivation.
FLOWERS
THINGS THAT WENT WELL The students stayed very engaged throughout the slide show. The activities were very engaging as well. After the instruction they went right to work on their assignments. They had to create their very own plant and label it and then make a chain that consisted of the six stages of the plant life cycle. Having an apple their to show them an example of the fruit, harvest and seed.
THINGS TO CHANGE I would have had even more pictures and maybe better ones. I also would have had one picture on each slide. Also I would have organized the lesson in a way that didn’t make it so we were so rushed all of the time. I felt like we had to fly through the lessons extremely quickly.
REVIEWING
CREATING The students didn’t use the technology in this lesson. Everything involving it was prepared before hand. The technology was essential. In order to show the PowerPoint we had to have a projector and the computer. The visuals were necessary for the lesson. The technology integration did focus on the objective. The lesson would have been easier without it, but not as beneficial to the students understanding.
