Life of a Plant A plant will grow from a tiny seed, Some water and sun is all you need. First the roots
grown underground, They suck up minerals from all around. Then come stems, some tall, some stout, And
next the branches spread about. Leaves grow in all shapes and sizes, Watch this new life as it
rises. Flowers bloom from buds on stems, They are as pretty as precious gems. Some plants give
us juicy fruit, Some have vegetables at the root. New seeds travel to and fro, By wind and water, on the
go. And the cycle keeps on going, Soon new stems and leaves are showing.

Students will create a summary of what they've learned from their experiments about lifecycle of plants through any of the following
media PowerPoint, Prezi, HyperStudio, YouTube, or Camtasia.
You will learn about the parts of a plant and a seed, we will plant seeds and observe and record their growth.ObjectivesYou
will:Identify parts of a seed.Identify parts of a plant.Materials to be used include:LeavesSeeds to plantClear plastic cups (1 per
student)Cotton balls (1 per student)Computer(s), smartphone or tablets with Internet accessPowerPoint, Prezi, HyperStudio,
YouTube, or CamtasiaOn Day 1, as a class we will access The Great Plant
Escape http://urbanext.illinois.edu/gpe/index.cfm and explore Case 1: In Search of Green Life. You will define the terms
related to the parts of a plant and seed. Begin a wall chart or use Inspiration software to make a concept map of a plant. As a class we
will go outside to gather material such as a leaves. You will cover the leaves with a piece of white paper, and color over the leaf on
the paper. You will observe what happens, and then describe the colored pictures in written format in your science journal or audio
format on science blog. On Day 2, you will be given a seed/or can bring some from store, a cotton ball, and a plastic cup. You
will soak your cotton balls in water, place one in a clear plastic cup, and then place the seed on top of the cotton ball. Tell students to
illustrate in their journals what they've done, and to label the parts of the seed.On Day 3, you will check the seeds and record the
appearance. We will take a few minutes to visit Growing Plants Indoors
http://urbanext.illinois.edu/gpe/case1/c1facts3a.html and discuss what plants need to grow. Also record science
information in journal or science blogOn Day 4, You will illustrate results of plant growth. We will also review the key words for parts of
plants and seeds; add any new terms to the wall chart or concept map.On Day 5, use graphing software, to generate graphs of
the plants' growth. Once created students will use graph as part of final presentation of the lifecycle process.
