The Pitch The first step to a successful movie by Daniel Cronje and Nico Del Pellegrino
The Genre we’re aiming for Action – “ The word action has more than one meaning in fiction. Action is one of the fiction-writing modes authors use to present fiction. The term is also used to describe a subset of creative works emphasizing action rather than other aspects of storytelling. ” Thriller – “ Thriller is a genre of literature, film, and television that uses suspense, tension, and excitement as the main elements. ” The Genre we will be aiming for will be a cross-bread of action and thriller.
Why choose a cross-bread? Action gives the audience an edge and makes the film more interesting. Both of these together can create a medium budget film creating excitement with good filming techniques – impressive. Thriller can be low budget, yet still high quality. Iconography – Dark, scary. Stock setting – City, modern. Stock Narrative – Guns, Constant Danger. Stock characters – Main hero, deceiver Thriller Stock characters - Thriller Stock narrative - Thriller Iconography – Modern/ slightly futuristic. Stock setting – Fiction, different countries. Stock narrative – Hero saves the day, Villain dies. Stock characters – Helpless girl, heroic man, sidekick and gadgets. Stock setting - Action Iconography - Action Action
What’s the Narrative? We plan on having 3 main acts to our story about soldiers in a guerrilla mission. This includes: Half of the characters die at the start – the opening ends with a characters hand on the floor - lifeless. The other half act through towards the end – but in a flashback. At the end it turns out that the half that seemed to have died at the start, actually killed the other half. We will use filming and sound techniques to deceive the audience and reveal at the end creating a very climactic ending.
Is there a setting? We will be filming in fields for the opening. Throughout the middle of the film we will be filming in cities/towns. Towards the end the setting will come back to shock the audience after seeing the effects on the soldiers.
Soldiers S.A.S 1 Field Marshal- Sir, 64 1 Corporal- Ryan, 31 1 Private- Soap, 18 Guerilla 1 Boss- Boss, unknown 3 Troops- Troops
Who For? Identifying the audience was fairly Easy. Used 13-28 age range. Uses and Gratification- satisfy their need for entertainment and information. Research: Warner Bros Picture mentions that one of the most popular genres are Suspense/ Thriller. Decided Action/ Thriller. They WANT it 
5. What’s a Budget? Fox Searchlight- subsidiary of 20 th Century Fox. Low Budget OWNER PRODUCER! We are using a professional ident in the opening, but being our own producer is a GOAL.
The Opening. Draw the reader/ viewer- establish? Hero? Get a feel about the hero, who? Why? Do we care? TONE! Use of mise en scène- camera, sound, etc
Which one? The Action Hero- Who? Speed, danger, etc. Outside Action- Do we like the villain, what are they up to? Prologue- Which event? What’s to come? The flashback- Past, future, which is present? The everyday hero- IT’S MENT TO BE COMOMMON! Also varied.
ACTION THRILLER. Usually opens with a cop, soldier, spy or someone who is involved in action everyday. Opens with a raid/ break in- confusion, etc WB, one of their popular movie genres.

Editor's Notes

  • #5 Flashback is not known until the end. The half that supposedly survives at the start has mental breakdowns etc.
