This document discusses how to calculate the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles. The perimeter of a square is calculated by multiplying the length of one side by 4. The area of a square is calculated by multiplying the length of one side by itself. The perimeter of a rectangle is calculated by adding the length and width and multiplying by 2. The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying the length by the width. Several examples are provided calculating the perimeter and area of squares with side lengths of 9cm and 5cm and rectangles with dimensions of 4cm by 6cm and 6cm by 8cm.

• The Area :
= the side length X itself
=9 X 9 = 81 𝑐𝑚2

8. 5 cm • The perimeter :
= the side length X 4
5 X 4 = 20 cm
OR
( the sum of its side length)
5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 cm
• The Area :
= the side length X itself
=5 X 5 = 25 𝑐𝑚2

9. The perimeter and area of the rectangle :

= 6 X 4 = 24 𝑐𝑚2

• The perimeter :
= ( length + width ) X 2
= ( 8 + 6) X 2 = 28 cm
• The Area :
= length X width
= 8 X 6 = 48 𝑐𝑚2
