The students decided to paint the walls of their former primary school as their Design for Change project. They met with the principal who encouraged their idea. The wall opposite the one they had previously beautified was in poor condition. The students wrote letters requesting donations of paint and plants but initially faced delays. However, one of their supporters sponsored primer and whitewash. With leftover paint and student involvement, they refreshed both walls. It was hard work but also fun. In the end, the walls were transformed and the principal appreciated their efforts to improve the school environment.
2. Last year, as our DFC project, we had helped our former primary school to clean up and create a green corner at its entrance. DEEPAK We had really enjoyed working on this project and so wanted to do something more this time. SONU RANJIT SUBHASH THINK NITESH
3. Involve our present students and let them also learn from you. Look around the school and see what you want to do this year . So once more we went to meet Mr. SuryakantTiwari, the principal of SikshaSadan School. Sir was very encouraging and happy to have us help the school.
4. So we looked around the school ……. We found that “our wall” was thriving but the one opposite it was looking very dismal. With its faded notice boards and crumbling plaster, it seemed to cry out to us to beautify it like we had done its neighbour ! HE HELP ME, PLEEEASE!! IMAGINE
5. SrijitDasgupta Berger India, Kolkata Re: Donation of Paints Dear Sir, We are group of students from Anando, an NGO where we attend a weekend activity programme called Hottogol. This year we are taking part in the nation-wide Design For Change Contest, where we as students try to solve a problem and bring about a change in the society. Our group has decided to lend a helping hand to ShikshaSadan, a Hindi medium primary school in our neighbourhood, where some of us have studied. ShishaSadaan is located in Poddarnagar, Kolkata. The school premises are run down and we wish to liven it up by painting a mural on the walls o the school. We want to involve the students of the school in this project so that they can use their artistic skills as well as develop a sense of pride in their school. We wrote to Berger Paints and to the local municipal councilor for help. The councilor said he could help us with flowering plants for the school courtyard…. but only in winter! Berger too, agreed to give us some paint for free …..but not before October! Luckily…… DO
6. ……..One of Anando’s supporters, who had witnessed our earlier efforts, stepped in and sponsored the primer and whitewash. The plants could wait until winter we felt. We also had some paint let over from another project, which we decided to use
7. We now had enough materials. So we decided we would refresh the earlier wall too. It was looking a bit drab after the heavy monsoons!
8. The painting surface had to be cleaned before it could be painted. So armed with lots of sandpaper we set to work… ……on the walls……
22. A little change can go a long way! How to take disappointment in our stride….the councilor and paint company did not give us the materials we wanted on time, but we found ways to tackle this Painting walls is hard work….but lots of fun too!! WE LEARNT...
