Project 1
CRUSADE FOR CLEANLINESS
Carried out by Kaukab Javed

Purbasha Roy

Sayantika Das
We realized that we can make an impact only in a small way and on a small
area. We chose our school as the target area.
Feel
We felt it was sad that the dustbins in the classrooms were often empty while waste
materials remained scattered around them.
We saw the large dustbin in the playground not used effectively..
Imagine
We imagined how wonderful it would be if people bothered to take time to aim properly so
that they threw waste materials into and not around the bins.
Do
*The first thing we did was to commit ourselves to bring about a change in ourselves and in
others.
*We took care and time to throw things into the various bins.
* We made bins and placed them in strategic places.
* We made posters urging people to throw rubbish into the bins.
* We placed these posters all over the school.
* We stood guard over the big dustbin in the playground and reminded everyone to throw
the waste materials into the bin.
* We called back people who threw things outside the bin and requested them to pick up the
things and put them into the bin. Some did so. Others ignored us but turned back when we
ourselves picked up their waste and threw it into the bins.
* We visited every class room and brought down the dustbins and emptied them into the
main bin. In each class we requested the students to join us in our CRUSADE FOR
CLEANLINESS.
We felt that we had an impact particularly because we were willing to clean up other
people’s mess. We intend to carry on with our crusade.

Project 2
A Slash of Green
Carried out by Ishara Hazra

Srimoyee Bannerjee
Mohima Chowdhury
Feel
We felt that our school did not have much greenery. There is a small garden of medicinal
plants but very few people know about it and it is not where many can enjoy it.
Imagine
We imagined how lovely it would and how soothing for the eyes if we had potted plants in
different parts of the school. These could be foliage or flowering plants.
Do
* We decided to provide these plants ourselves.
*We asked permission from our Principal to collect money from the students and teachers.
We also gave some money.
*We discussed with our teacher what plants would grow easily and need less care.
*We learnt about nursery beds.
*We filled the first pots with sand because we were going to use cuttings and rooting would
be easier in sand.
*We used cuttings of Diffenbacia, Monastera and other similar plant
*We learnt how to cut at the nodes so the rooting would be easier.
*We planted them in sand.
*We placed them in the shade and watered them regularly.
*When we saw the roots coming out we transplanted them in pots
*When they grow a little more we will place them in suitable places so that others can enjoy
them.
We had great fun and learned a lot about gardening. We resolved to have some potted
plants in our own homes.
3. Design for Change.
Loreto Day School, Sealdah
Loreto Day School, Sealdah has been actively involved in FEEL, IMAGINE and DO
projects for more than thirty years. The students have been guided to analyse social needs
and conditions. They have seen areas where they can contribute effectively. Many projects
have been undertaken in both rural and urban situations. To mention a few:- The Village
Outreach programme, The Rainbow Programme, The Hidden Domestic Child Labour
Programme, The Human Rights Education and many others.
These are on going programmes and thus we have not mentioned them under this current
undertaking.
The projects we have presented are small in scope but involve the students impacting
personally on their immediate surroundings. Thy have been from inception to execution
entirely the work of the students. We feel that it has brought about a chane and a different
mindset in all those who participated in them.
