OER has the potential to be a powerful new story in education that provides benefits but also faces challenges. Some key benefits are significant cost savings for students and increased creativity and choice of resources for instructors. However, adopting OER requires a major time investment from instructors to prepare materials and stay current. The story of OER is still unfolding and will take many years to fully develop as more instructors and students contribute their experiences to help address challenges like ensuring all students have adequate technology access.

Initial results found that students saved thousands of dollars through lower-cost digital and used textbook options. While some students appreciated the convenience and flexibility of digital materials, others preferred printed textbooks for retaining information. The challenges of adoption include faculty perceptions and the need for continuous improvement of open resources.

But there’s another option: You can provide immediate, free digital access to an open textbook, with a low-cost print option available through the bookstore for students who prefer print. Please join the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) for a free and open webinar on Designing for Open Pedagogy. Open Pedagogy was first introduced by Lumen Learning co-founder David Wiley, as a way to capture how the use of OER can change educational practices. He relates that using OER in the same way as traditional textbooks is like driving an airplane down the road – it is missing out on what open can provide for student and teacher collaboration, engagement, and learning.

We will hear from two professors who have not only adopted OER but have redesigned their courses with the principles of open pedagogy. Will share how he has engaged students in collaborative writing of an Introduction to Political Science open textbook. His students report that writing assignments take on new meaning when they realize that other people are going to read their work. Not just repeating what they have read or heard in class, they compare their understanding with their peers and collaborate to present their ideas in the best way possible.

Regina Gong discusses her experience leading an open educational resources (OER) initiative at Lansing Community College. High textbook costs were negatively impacting students, so she helped faculty adopt free and openly licensed OER to save students over $1 million. As experts in finding resources and copyright, librarians are well-positioned to partner with faculty on OER. LCC's bottom-up approach led over 200 faculty to use OER in over 400 courses benefiting over 10,000 students. Communicating successes helped expand partnerships and further the initiative's social justice goals of increasing educational access.

Regina Gong discusses her experience leading an open educational resources (OER) initiative at Lansing Community College. High textbook costs were negatively impacting students, so she helped faculty adopt free and openly licensed OER to save students over $1 million. As experts in finding resources and copyright, librarians are well-positioned to partner with faculty on OER. LCC's bottom-up approach led over 200 faculty to use OER in over 400 courses benefiting over 10,000 students. Communicating successes helped expand partnerships and further the initiative's social justice goals of increasing educational access.

Open educational resources (OER) help preserve collective knowledge by preventing the loss of indigenous cultures' skills and wisdom. OER also increase cross-disciplinary understanding by allowing academics from different fields to learn from one another and acknowledge the interplay between nature and nurture. Additionally, OER help academic peers mentor each other by giving instructors models for rethinking their courses to meet changing student needs when their work is fully accessible.

Using open educational resources in courses takes time to find relevant materials, customize them for the class, and replace any broken links or missing content. However, this process keeps the instructor engaged with the course materials and ensures each resource enhances the objectives. Resources must also be logically integrated into the course sequence and address the objectives. While shared materials may lack value or attribution, reviewing them critically helps instructors understand content and improve shared resources through peer assessment.
OER PROS and CONS
This document discusses the pros and cons of using open educational resources (OER) in the classroom. The pros are that OER can save students money on textbooks, provide high-quality resources, help prepare students for courses, and allow students to review materials after a course ends. Teach the Teachers, Reach the Students

Librarians and faculty members from three institutions collaborated to adapt a metaliteracy Digital Citizen badge for use with graduate literacy education students. The multi-faceted goal is not only for these students to affirm their roles as digital citizens, but also to actively teach and model such citizenship to their prospective students. This grant-funded project, which adapts content from an existing metaliteracy badging system, incorporates mechanisms to encourage a community of users, and serves as a model for collaborations with faculty across various disciplines.
In this session, project collaborators will briefly introduce metaliteracy (metaliteracy.org), provide an overview of the badging system (metaliteracybadges.org), and discuss the components added for this project, and mechanisms that worked well for collaborating. We are not only concerned with collaboration within the grant team; we also built components that will encourage educators to create open access learning objects for an Educators Corner and an Educators Conference.
Drawing from expertise as co-creators and researchers in initiatives such as the new ACRL Information Literacy Framework and the Connecting Credentials (connectingcredentials.org) and Global Learning Qualifications Frameworks (funded by the Lumina Foundation), we have worked together to create a robust resource that will be available to every SUNY institution, and, ultimately, to interested institutions beyond SUNY. We encourage participants to actively engage in the presentation by contributing ideas for badging opportunities based on your own professional development and curricular goals to an open forum in the Educators Corner.

core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
