This document proposes a literacy initiative that would provide e-readers loaded with books to children aged 10-17. The Nook Literacy Initiative would be a pilot program funded by the Massac County Housing Authority and Metropolis Rotary Club. It would purchase 5 e-readers to loan to housing youth with the goals of increasing literacy, reading, and exposure to different topics. Participants would attend an introductory event and feedback would be collected to measure outcomes.

4. The Nook Literacy Initiative
Proposal
 Purchase five Nook eBook readers
 Develop and implement a program for Housing youth to borrow
their Nook for a predetermined period of time
 The program should have mandatory participation of initial kick-off
event in which agreements are signed and kids will learn the basics
of operation.
 Advertise the project to families with kids ages 10-17
 Measure outcomes by collecting feedback and monitoring the
books the children read at the end of program meeting.

Literacy Initiative – $34.95 for an all inclusive
protection plan that covers
breakage and spills (highly
recommended for kids)
– $30 for the Nook carrying case
– Total cost per unit: $ 203.95
