 Digital storytelling is the practice of combining
narrative with digital content and electronic
elements (Educause Learning Initiative, 2007).
 People tell stories to teach beliefs and values to
others. Digital stories use images, sounds, and
videos to build on the oral tradition of
transferring and exchanging knowledge with
others (Educause Learning Initiative, 2007).
 Students can learn content and meet learning
objectives while interacting with multimedia
and digital technologies.
 Students can work together to learn storytelling
and about the technology tools available for
them to use.
 Teaching storytelling will increase knowledge
of how to create a story visually and how to
write a story from what you've published.
Then, writing becomes so much easier.
 Digital media is a program that all students
know today.
 Digital storytelling gets students excited about
reading and learning. It provides them with the
opportunity to use their freedom and
imagination while learning.
 Digital storytelling is
creative and fun
 To get started, tools
such as a computer,
camera, editing
software, and
microphone are
needed (Cox, Watson,
Quinlisk, & Kim,
2009).
 Using technology to
explain something,
such as an idea,
concept, or traditional
story
 Teachers and students
can create digital
stories to introduce a
new concept, explain
a complex idea, or
summarize a unit
(Cox et al., 2009).

 People can share
stories at any time
and at any place.
 It allows you to
control what audience
members view.
 It takes the fear factor
out of presentations.
 You do not have to be
present for people to
hear or see your story.
 Technology is very
familiar to students.
We must continue to
find ways to make
learning more
interesting. Digital
storytelling is one
way to do so.
