The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Essay
The Most Wonderful Time of The Year There is nothing like being in school in November and knowing that winter break is one more month away.
The temperature has dropped and we get to wear snow boots and long jackets. Thanksgiving has come and families come together to celebrate the
joyful holidays. Families come together for the holidays to share love and joy with one another. Children are more excited for Christmas just to see
what Santa has left for them. But once New years has passed that means it's time to go back to school. The weather starts to warm up and the trees
come back to life and before you know it its summer break. Time for shorts, tank tops, flip flops and hanging out by the pool with your friends
enjoying the summer sun. Even though I like being in both seasons, I prefer winter over summer. When it comes to winter the weather is colder and
unpredictable. It could snow one day, freeze overnight and become ice. You must watch out while driving and walking because you might slide. But
there is nothing like building a snowman on the school playground or even having a big snow ball fight with your friend. As a kid living in Texas
we didn't get much snow, but when we did we got the best out of it. We would go outside for recess after lunch and make snow angels and throw
snow at the teachers. We didn't have a care in the world. Eventually, we would get cold and want to go in to warm up, but still loving every bit of it.
Our teachers didn't too much like this

Todays Education Has Changed Over Time
Education Rewind
Introduction: Todays education has changed in many ways over the years. From the behavior of students caused by different parenting skills, how
teachers teach their classes as well as students ability to use fundamentals, media and technology all play a roll in how the world of education has
evolved. Robin Lawrence a thirteen years veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementry has a good insight to how the educational
system has changed over time.

Paragraph One: Past Education
Topic Sentence: In the past students behavior, the way teachers taught their classes as well as media and technology was all very different thanpresent
day.
Transition:
Main Point One: Behavior in the past was much better. Past generations did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control
to allow their children to be young. Parents were did not have a lack of parenting skills. They were allowed to be carefree children unlike the present
day generations. Today's generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor
behavior of today's generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects the whole class.
Supporting Detail One: Mrs. Lawrence stated, "Student behavior was much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present
day.''
Supporting Detail Two: When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that

My First Year As A Teacher
Story Reviews
Introduction
The twenty–five stories that are contained in the book, My First Year As A Teacher, are about real teachers and their experiences during the first
year of teaching. Each story is different. Some are about memorable students while other stories are about some of the hardships that are
encountered as a novice teacher. The diverse sampling of stories in this book gives insight of what kind of problems one might encounter as a
teacher, yet they also describe how rewarding the profession can be. I found it rather difficult to choose only ten stories as my favorite but after much
consideration and rereading I decided on the following stories because in many ways I could relate to the students as well as the teachers that are
given life in these stories.
"Ever Been to Disneyland?" By: David Callaway David Callaway had no intentions on becoming a teacher or staying in Australia but as luck would
have it he was hired at a Catholic school, which changed his life's path. David had no experience as a teacher but found ways to work around that
handicap by teaching his students what he thought was interesting. In the beginning, his ideas did not work as well as he had planned until one student
asked if he had ever been to Disneyland. With this one question, David realized that his students, with a little coercion, would be willing to learn if he
would talk to them about the Magic Kingdom. David, like many teachers, discover

I teach because of my insatiable passion to motivate, inspire, and to positively impact my students in a way that will encourage lifelong learning. I
believe the best way to positively influence any student is to first build rapport with them. After I establish that relationship, I will proceed to teach and
lead that student to academic success. My teaching will be student–centered and focused heavily on inquiry based teaching aligning with the Next
Generation Science Standards. I also plan on continuing my education through taking classes, attending conferences, and by traveling.
My first step as a teacher is to gain rapport with my students. I believe that classroom design can contribute heavily to my success in this area. I think a
classroom environment which provides safety through acceptance and caring and allows the students plenty of opportunities to grow intellectually and
emotionally will help me make those important connections. I will provide safety through acceptance and caring by establishing classroom norms.
Some of these norms include listening when someone is talking, uncomfortable comments may be challenged, always think before reacting, and to
assume the best intentions from each classmate. Starting the new school year off with norms will allow my students to feel comfortable interacting
with each other and will hopefully encourage my relationships with the students. After establishing norms, I will offer extension opportunities for each

Autobiography Essay
While growing up, my family always pushed me to learn something new. Being a kindergarten teacher, my mother taught me the basics of reading
and writing. Those basic skills laid the foundation for all of my reading and writing experiences. In elementary school, book reports and spelling
bees were my favorite activities. Throughout middle and high school, I had one determined teacher, who was my teacher for all of my reading
and writing classes. I believe experiences in my early years, my interests in elementary school, and a specific teacher in high school made me the
reader and writer I am today. To emphasize, being the child of a teacher definitely has its benefits. As soon as I physically could, I was reading and
writing. When I was younger I loved Scooby Doo books. My earliest memory happens to be when my mom was in the hospital having my twin
sisters. I was waiting outside, reading a Scooby Doo book. I remember my first day of kindergarten very vividly. I expected my first year of school to
be much more difficult than it actually was. From a young age, my parents stressed how important grades were. I believe my grades played an...show

Every year we would have a book report. At this age, I was obsessed with horses, therefor I always chose to read books about horses. I read books
from the Phantom Stallion series, as well as Seabiscuit. I also enjoyed art, so after reading the book, making a creative poster was also fun. The
competition of trying to win a book report was something I was interested in. Around fourth grade, my school started to have spelling bees. My best
friend was the only person, other than myself, who wanted to win. If I won at my elementary school, I could proceed to district, state, and even
national levels. Sadly, I never made it past state. Even though I was never actually successful at spelling bees, it was a fun activity for me during my

During my time on the PGDE Course both in University based learning, and more evidently during my Professional Practise placements, I have come
to realise the significance of reflection within the teaching profession. Not only does reflecting on best practise benefit the children's learning but also
increases the teacher's confidence and ability in making decisions and delivering lessons. 'Reflective teaching is a great deal to do with facing such
features of ourselves in a constructive and objective manner which incorporates a continuous capacity to change and develop' (Moon, 2004).
Since embarking on the course I now question my own actions and assess the best alternatives to develop my practise by taking constructive criticism

'Reflective teachers need to be able to relate their findings to those of others and to consider results in the context of the current debates about
educational issues' (Pollard, 2008). Having a range of theorist's viewpoints, tried and tested ways of teaching, and working with more experienced
professionals has furthered my knowledge and understanding. I do not believe teachers are required to know everything there is to know about all
subjects but will have more expertise in some subjects than others. The subjects and topics which they have limited experience in will require a
professional commitment in order to research. This research ultimately builds teacher's knowledge and understanding to plan more interesting and
effective lessons. Curriculum for Excellence is allowing teachers more flexibility to organise and deliver the experiences and outcomes in a more
effective way for learners. In delivering the various curricular areas I have become more confident in subjects which I felt less confident in at the start
of the course.
I have found that through additional reading I am better equipped to question and suggest methods tried by others in professional disscussions. I found
that attending In–service day training and Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions has increased my knowledge and understanding
allowing me to develop lessons which are more rewarding for the

The Role Of A Teacher In The 21st Century
The role of the teacher in the 21st century education consists of the teacher demonstrating leadership among the staff and with the
administration–bringing consensus and common, shared ownership of the school's vision and purpose. It is important for the teacher to make the
instructional content engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students' lives; teach core content that includes critical thinking, problem solving, addition
to information and communications technology (ICT) literacy; and facilitate instruction encouraging all students to use 21st century skills so they
discover how to learn, innovate, collaborate, and communicate their ideas. In addition, teachers are to ensure the 21st century content (global
awareness, civic literacy, financial literacy, and health awareness) is included in the core content areas; make certain subjects and related projects are
integrated among disciplines and involving relationships with the home and community. Teacher are also to reflect about their practice by including
assessments that are authentic and structured and demonstrate student understanding and demonstrate the value of lifelong learning as well as
encourage their students to learn and grow. The evaluation process for teachers includes the following components:
Component 1: Training – Before participating in the evaluation process, all teachers, principals, and peer evaluators must complete training on the
evaluation process.
Component 2: Orientation – The teacher

Essay about Teachers and Students
Teachers and Students
The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it
be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career.
Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship
between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.
The experience of a student at school, especially at a younger age, in most cases sets the main base of the skills of that...show more content...
Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls,
but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of
children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student
as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them,
but also keep them busy.
Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued
that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going
too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom
governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of
their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in
school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this

My First Day For A Teacher
Middle school, that awkward time when you're too young to be high schoolers, yet too old to be elementary schoolers. We all experience it, most
don't take much from it, but I was an exception. At Archdale Trinity Middle School there was a teacher by the name of Mr. Gary Hunsucker. I will
never forget that name, for he impacted me for life. All of the students wanted Mr. Hunsuker, probably because his class was fairly easy to pass.
What the students didn't know was the lessons he taught. Not only lesson plans, but life lessons. I remember seeing Mr. Hunsucker in the halls. I
can remember his radiant smile, and his humble complexion. I always wanted the experience of having Mr. Hunsucker for a teacher, so I made sure
of it. I applied for Algebra I because I knew Mr. Hunsucker taught that class. Not to my surprize, I got in his class. I can remember how excited I was
to see him in class teaching! August could not come soon enough.
The first day of August had finally arrived, and the first day of school was here. I looked at my schedule that read, "Gary Hunsucker, Algebra I – 4th
Period". That whole day felt as long as the whole summer did waiting on that clock to read, "1:45". It seemed as if the clock ticked only a fraction
of the speed it should. Finally, 1:45 came along and I rushed through the halls, like a horse in the derby. I made my way into Mr. Hunsucker's room
quicker than a kid darting into a candy shop. Immediately, I got all my binders and papers out and prepared.

Year End Reflection Essay
Year End Reflection 2016
When I think of grade 8, I think of all the sports I play and how much I developed as a student athlete from the beginning of the year to now.
Why sports comes to mind when I think of grade 8 is because this would be the year where I'm transitioning from grade 8 to high school, which means I
will have to start taking sports more seriously, because in high school sports, for example, in football you have to be really good, and you can't depend
on being a "good athlete' because when you get to the next level of playing football (high school) everyone is a good athlete, and you start to realize
that being athletic will only take you so far.
My main sport that I play is football. I started playing football when I was 11, when I started I was pretty good. I was playing at a position lots of
players wanted to play, linebacker, and I didn't really take it to my advantage because I know anything about football, but as that season went on I
started getting better at my position, but the following year, I was played at a different position because the kids we were playing with were a year
older than me, that's when I realized if I wanted to be a good player, I had to try, and that is when I really started developing in football, the...show more

being able to control myself when I have freedom in school. This year also taught me skills I didn't know I had, like if I separate myself from my
friends I could complete lots of work without the

My Experience As A Student Teacher
Today's classroom is one of variety and challenge. I have seen first hand, in the classroom I observed this semester, the impact of various children's
backgrounds. There were second graders from every walk of life and this diversity impacted how they interacted with each other, and, on some
occasions, how the teacher interacted with them. When working with a group of children such as these, the educator must be aware of every aspect of
diversity in their classroom. Diversity may come in many forms: academic achievement, race, language, or socioeconomic differences, and it may be
difficult to address each of these needs individually. Regardless of these challenges, a successful teacher will have the ability to create an atmosphere
which will turn the student's perceived "limitations" into their strongest ability. This what will keep them determined and ready to engage with the
curriculum. My experiences as a student teacher showed me that the biggest barrier that I will have to surmount is finding a way to communicate the
necessary information to my students so that they will learn and even thrive in my class. This is especially true when working in a low income area
where students are worried about problems that are much bigger than school: where their next meal is coming from or how much money they can earn
to help their family when they go to work that night. Such larger concerns will dwarf what happens in school, making homework seem irrelevant and
/or impossible. With

Becoming a teacher can be an exciting and challenging experience for anyone. It can be quite difficult to put four years of knowledge into their
teaching and into a classroom environment. And while it may seem challenging at first it does become easier over time.
A teacher is not only someone who teaches, but they are a symbol of learning.
A teacher is a person who plays the most important role in the development of any student. The future of those students depends on the qualities and the
dedication of that teacher. It is the teacher who creates an interest in students to develop and to progress. It is the teacher who helps the students
achieve whatever aims they set for themselves.

The curriculum then becomes more relevant, therefore the motivation for the students to accomplish the tasks increases.
The subject matter not only has to be relevant but it also has to be stimulating to the students' curiosity. If a student is bored with the content, they are
not going to want to learn it.
The classroom also has to be seen as a caring and supportive place with a sense of belonging. Every student must feel respected, valued and heard.
Giving children the support for learning by welcoming their questions and encouraging exploration is very important for teachers to do.
Extrinsic motivators are sometimes used when teachers have a student or class who feels like they have earn't something for their hard work. This
could be things such as stickers or stamps on their homework and tests. Or it could be receiving verbal or written praise. It could be just the thing that
motivates certain students. But not all students need to be extrinsically motivated. Teachers need to find out which type of motivation works best for
which student to help them succeed.
Classroom teaching is more likely to be effective when it is informed by an understanding of how students learn. Constructivism is the current approach
to learning in Australian schools today. Constructivism is how each student goes about constructing his or her own knowledge. This type of

Student–centered teaching are encouraged in which students participate in discovery learning and assessment is often based on group as well as
individual project portfolios.
With the impact of technology in the classrooms and the drastic change in the role of teachers, the learning environments also need major reform.
According to the recommendation of the National Educational Technology Standard provided by the International Society for Technology in Education
(ISTE), the student–centered teaching environments should be as followed:
Moving from Traditional to Student–centered Learning Environments
Traditional Classroom Student–Centered Classroom
Teacher–centered instruction Student–centered instruction
Single sense stimulation Multisensory stimulation
Single path Multipath progression
Single media Multimedia
Isolated work Collaborative work
Information delivered Information exchange
Passive learning Active/exploratory/inquiry–based learning
Factual, knowledge–based Critical thinking, informed decision–making
Reactive response Proactive/planned action
However, ISTE's recommendation of this model learning environment of the new classroom would not materialize without teachers' understanding and
appreciation of what technology can do to enhance their teaching; thus, promoting student learning.

My Cooperating Teacher who received the Teacher of the Year Award from Woodbridge High School in Irvine Unified School District, Ms. Christine

Teacher's Salaries Essay
Lurking over our great country is a troubling issue that is plaguing the professional educational workforce. When compared worldwide, American
teachers work the most hours, yet are paid in the lowest brackets when related to the top 32 nations (Teachers Pay). In addition, when you compare a
teacher's salary to other four year degree salaries, teachers are among the 5 lowest paid degrees (O'Shaughnessy). Not only are the salaries among
the lowest in the American workforce, a typical teachers at home workload exceeds all other professional jobs by 20% (Current). Furthermore,

According to an hourly wage, that would place a teacher's salary above accountants, computer programmers, and mechanical engineers at the entry
level. In addition to the hourly rate, teachers often are given economic incentives that aren't available to other jobs (Teachers). These same researchers
also claim that the benefits given to teachers far outweigh those of rival professions. Therefore, stating that based off limited research, teachers are paid
an adamant amount of money, and need not complain (Anderson).
In contrast there are many reasons why teachers truly are underpaid. First, what these researchers fail to make public, is the fact that the hourly wage
that they base a teachers pay is centered only on the hours that a teacher is present at school. They do not take into consideration the hours that
teachers put in at home. On average a teacher will work 20% more Sundays than any other profession, these hours will not be paid or documented into
a teachers pay schedule. The reasoning behind the large at home workload comes from the excessive amount of homework and assignments that they
must grade or create for previous and following work days. Secondly, they are often forced to work at multiple locations, with early starting hours
ranging from 6 to 7 am. Furthermore, some of these locations can be extremely far, costing the teacher an

My First Day As A Teacher
The night before my first day as a teacher I was scared. It was something totally different for me; it was something I had never done before. Yes, I
have made some microteachings at the university, but that was not the same as been in an actual classroom with kids observing you and waiting for
you to teach them something. In my head, there were questions such as What am I going to do? What should I tell to the kids? Is this how it is
supposed to be done? The next morning, I get up and prepare myself for my first class. Surprisingly, it went pretty good. Although I assumed that
there were some things in which I needed to work on, in general, I used to think that I did a good job. Now, almost two years later and after spending

This is something that happens to me: in my life as a student I am very quiet, observer, and introverted; in the other side, as a teacher I like to sing
songs to my students (kindergartens), dance with them and, if possible, use some fun activities. Teachers' beliefs influenced different tasks such as:
selecting and presenting learning activities, preparing students for new language and checking their understanding, monitoring students' learning,
giving feedback, among others (Richards & Lockhart, 1994). I agree completely with this perception, because it is something that I have noticed
since this course started: in the videos of my classmates, in the classes of my teachers, and in my own classes. Related to this, another topic seen
during this semester was about the lesson plans as means of reflection. It was something very useful that never crossed my mind: writing some notes
or observations about the class after it ended can be very helpful to discover things that otherwise may go unnoticed and at the end, it can help us to
avoid doing the same mistakes over and over. I found this tool useful and important to my practice because it helped me to realize some situations
that can present in a class and also it encouraged me to reflect on how can I solve those issues and avoid them to occur

Teacher Evaluation Essay
In 2009, the Race to the Top education initiative used federal grants to incentivize states to enact rigorous teaching reforms in K–12 education. The
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 built off the progress of this reform by urging states to explicitly define and improve teacher quality
assessments. Today, states are tasked with identifying the goals and components of an effective, evidenced–based teacher assessment system.
Attracting high–quality novice teachers, retaining and rewarding effective veteran teachers, and improving developing teachers constitute the three
main goals of a rigorous an effective teacher evaluation system.
BACKGROUND_______________________________________________________________ A principal rating...show more content...
However, standards–based observations create a rigorous, objective, and measurable rubric for educators to evaluate the quality of teacher performance:
unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished. These clear observation scales limit subjective bias given that it is clearly defined assessment
rubric. However, accountability measures linked to a "limited sample of instruction can potentially effect reliability" and increase educational budget
costs for administrative evaluation To that end, a teacher's instructional performance does not correlate with student achievement nor does it measure
other qualities, such as "soft–skills". The value–added test provides an objective measure of assessment, emphasizing growth over proficiency. A
teacher assessment system which uses value–added measurements captures a holistic evaluation of a teacher's performance. Meanwhile, a
proficiency–based test demonstrates a student's ability to meet a benchmark on one test–an isolated measure. Value–added measures recognize the need
for growth for all students, regardless of knowledge or skill. However, "a system based only on value–added measures would not be helpful for
identifying the most effective teachers in a district." It is difficult to institute a common benchmark for value–added performance, given that student
achievement across a district varies and scores are highly unpredictable from year to year. Additionally, students'

An Effective, Professional Teacher Essay
Introduction The statement 'Teaching – reflections, questions, decisions' sums up what it means to be an effective teacher. Teachers are constantly
making decisions about professionalism and ethics, teaching strategies, classroom management, and how to keep their students motivated. These
decisions can have a major impact on student learning and how effective they are as teachers. Questioning is an essential–and one of the most
important–instructional skills that a teacher can possess. Teachers need to be able to ask the appropriate types and levels of questions, such as the
high and low order questions based on Bloom's taxonomy, as well as being skilled in responding to students answers. Teachers also need to be
constantly evaluating and...show more content...
It is essential to encompass all of these behaviours and standards to succeed in being an effective teacher, as they are in an authoritative position and
therefore need to lead by example. Teacher professionalism is also dependant on professional judgement, which involves making decisions on what is
the right thing to do in certain situations, and ethical behaviour. The code of ethics is based on respect, caring, integrity, diligence and open
communication (Groundwater–Smith, Ewing & Le Cornu, 2007, p. 332). Sometimes teachers can come across 'ethical dilemmas' which are complex
problems that have more than one solution, and in turn, each solution has different advantages and disadvantages, therefore having no clear correct
answer (Groundwater–Smith et al., 2007, p. 336). For example, "You observe another teacher publicly humiliate a child who is known to have
previously bullied other students. What do you do? Do you say anything?" Ethical dilemmas require teachers to explore all situations and outcomes, and
make a decision on what is right and just. Professionalism and ethics together, as relevant to teachers, demands all of these appropriate behaviours and
responses in any circumstance (Whitton et al., 2010, p. 123). Constructivism Teaching techniques and strategies, such as proactive teaching,
collaborative learning and constructivism, can also affect the quality of

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Essay

  • 1. The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Essay The Most Wonderful Time of The Year There is nothing like being in school in November and knowing that winter break is one more month away. The temperature has dropped and we get to wear snow boots and long jackets. Thanksgiving has come and families come together to celebrate the joyful holidays. Families come together for the holidays to share love and joy with one another. Children are more excited for Christmas just to see what Santa has left for them. But once New years has passed that means it's time to go back to school. The weather starts to warm up and the trees come back to life and before you know it its summer break. Time for shorts, tank tops, flip flops and hanging out by the pool with your friends enjoying the summer sun. Even though I like being in both seasons, I prefer winter over summer. When it comes to winter the weather is colder and unpredictable. It could snow one day, freeze overnight and become ice. You must watch out while driving and walking because you might slide. But there is nothing like building a snowman on the school playground or even having a big snow ball fight with your friend. As a kid living in Texas we didn't get much snow, but when we did we got the best out of it. We would go outside for recess after lunch and make snow angels and throw snow at the teachers. We didn't have a care in the world. Eventually, we would get cold and want to go in to warm up, but still loving every bit of it. Our teachers didn't too much like this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Todays Education Has Changed Over Time Education Rewind Introduction: Todays education has changed in many ways over the years. From the behavior of students caused by different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as students ability to use fundamentals, media and technology all play a roll in how the world of education has evolved. Robin Lawrence a thirteen years veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementry has a good insight to how the educational system has changed over time. Transition: N/A Paragraph One: Past Education Topic Sentence: In the past students behavior, the way teachers taught their classes as well as media and technology was all very different thanpresent day. Transition: Main Point One: Behavior in the past was much better. Past generations did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control to allow their children to be young. Parents were did not have a lack of parenting skills. They were allowed to be carefree children unlike the present day generations. Today's generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor behavior of today's generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects the whole class. Supporting Detail One: Mrs. Lawrence stated, "Student behavior was much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present day.'' Supporting Detail Two: When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My First Year As A Teacher My First Year As A Teacher Story Reviews Introduction The twenty–five stories that are contained in the book, My First Year As A Teacher, are about real teachers and their experiences during the first year of teaching. Each story is different. Some are about memorable students while other stories are about some of the hardships that are encountered as a novice teacher. The diverse sampling of stories in this book gives insight of what kind of problems one might encounter as a teacher, yet they also describe how rewarding the profession can be. I found it rather difficult to choose only ten stories as my favorite but after much consideration and rereading I decided on the following stories because in many ways I could relate to the students as well as the teachers that are given life in these stories. "Ever Been to Disneyland?" By: David Callaway David Callaway had no intentions on becoming a teacher or staying in Australia but as luck would have it he was hired at a Catholic school, which changed his life's path. David had no experience as a teacher but found ways to work around that handicap by teaching his students what he thought was interesting. In the beginning, his ideas did not work as well as he had planned until one student asked if he had ever been to Disneyland. With this one question, David realized that his students, with a little coercion, would be willing to learn if he would talk to them about the Magic Kingdom. David, like many teachers, discover Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Journey As A Teacher PPP #3 I teach because of my insatiable passion to motivate, inspire, and to positively impact my students in a way that will encourage lifelong learning. I believe the best way to positively influence any student is to first build rapport with them. After I establish that relationship, I will proceed to teach and lead that student to academic success. My teaching will be student–centered and focused heavily on inquiry based teaching aligning with the Next Generation Science Standards. I also plan on continuing my education through taking classes, attending conferences, and by traveling. My first step as a teacher is to gain rapport with my students. I believe that classroom design can contribute heavily to my success in this area. I think a classroom environment which provides safety through acceptance and caring and allows the students plenty of opportunities to grow intellectually and emotionally will help me make those important connections. I will provide safety through acceptance and caring by establishing classroom norms. Some of these norms include listening when someone is talking, uncomfortable comments may be challenged, always think before reacting, and to assume the best intentions from each classmate. Starting the new school year off with norms will allow my students to feel comfortable interacting with each other and will hopefully encourage my relationships with the students. After establishing norms, I will offer extension opportunities for each of our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Autobiography Essay While growing up, my family always pushed me to learn something new. Being a kindergarten teacher, my mother taught me the basics of reading and writing. Those basic skills laid the foundation for all of my reading and writing experiences. In elementary school, book reports and spelling bees were my favorite activities. Throughout middle and high school, I had one determined teacher, who was my teacher for all of my reading and writing classes. I believe experiences in my early years, my interests in elementary school, and a specific teacher in high school made me the reader and writer I am today. To emphasize, being the child of a teacher definitely has its benefits. As soon as I physically could, I was reading and writing. When I was younger I loved Scooby Doo books. My earliest memory happens to be when my mom was in the hospital having my twin sisters. I was waiting outside, reading a Scooby Doo book. I remember my first day of kindergarten very vividly. I expected my first year of school to be much more difficult than it actually was. From a young age, my parents stressed how important grades were. I believe my grades played an...show more content... Every year we would have a book report. At this age, I was obsessed with horses, therefor I always chose to read books about horses. I read books from the Phantom Stallion series, as well as Seabiscuit. I also enjoyed art, so after reading the book, making a creative poster was also fun. The competition of trying to win a book report was something I was interested in. Around fourth grade, my school started to have spelling bees. My best friend was the only person, other than myself, who wanted to win. If I won at my elementary school, I could proceed to district, state, and even national levels. Sadly, I never made it past state. Even though I was never actually successful at spelling bees, it was a fun activity for me during my elementary Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. During my time on the PGDE Course both in University based learning, and more evidently during my Professional Practise placements, I have come to realise the significance of reflection within the teaching profession. Not only does reflecting on best practise benefit the children's learning but also increases the teacher's confidence and ability in making decisions and delivering lessons. 'Reflective teaching is a great deal to do with facing such features of ourselves in a constructive and objective manner which incorporates a continuous capacity to change and develop' (Moon, 2004). Since embarking on the course I now question my own actions and assess the best alternatives to develop my practise by taking constructive criticism from...show more content... 'Reflective teachers need to be able to relate their findings to those of others and to consider results in the context of the current debates about educational issues' (Pollard, 2008). Having a range of theorist's viewpoints, tried and tested ways of teaching, and working with more experienced professionals has furthered my knowledge and understanding. I do not believe teachers are required to know everything there is to know about all subjects but will have more expertise in some subjects than others. The subjects and topics which they have limited experience in will require a professional commitment in order to research. This research ultimately builds teacher's knowledge and understanding to plan more interesting and effective lessons. Curriculum for Excellence is allowing teachers more flexibility to organise and deliver the experiences and outcomes in a more effective way for learners. In delivering the various curricular areas I have become more confident in subjects which I felt less confident in at the start of the course. I have found that through additional reading I am better equipped to question and suggest methods tried by others in professional disscussions. I found that attending In–service day training and Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions has increased my knowledge and understanding allowing me to develop lessons which are more rewarding for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Role Of A Teacher In The 21st Century The role of the teacher in the 21st century education consists of the teacher demonstrating leadership among the staff and with the administration–bringing consensus and common, shared ownership of the school's vision and purpose. It is important for the teacher to make the instructional content engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students' lives; teach core content that includes critical thinking, problem solving, addition to information and communications technology (ICT) literacy; and facilitate instruction encouraging all students to use 21st century skills so they discover how to learn, innovate, collaborate, and communicate their ideas. In addition, teachers are to ensure the 21st century content (global awareness, civic literacy, financial literacy, and health awareness) is included in the core content areas; make certain subjects and related projects are integrated among disciplines and involving relationships with the home and community. Teacher are also to reflect about their practice by including assessments that are authentic and structured and demonstrate student understanding and demonstrate the value of lifelong learning as well as encourage their students to learn and grow. The evaluation process for teachers includes the following components: Component 1: Training – Before participating in the evaluation process, all teachers, principals, and peer evaluators must complete training on the evaluation process. • 8. Essay about Teachers and Students Teachers and Students The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective. The experience of a student at school, especially at a younger age, in most cases sets the main base of the skills of that...show more content... Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although it may be true that boys are more active than girls, but to say that they are treated differently is to be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student as often as possible. The same goes for an active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate them, but also keep them busy. Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued that boys and girls are different, especially at such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be going too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom governed by a female teacher, they are predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the performance of their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in school is declining. One much question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My First Day For A Teacher Middle school, that awkward time when you're too young to be high schoolers, yet too old to be elementary schoolers. We all experience it, most don't take much from it, but I was an exception. At Archdale Trinity Middle School there was a teacher by the name of Mr. Gary Hunsucker. I will never forget that name, for he impacted me for life. All of the students wanted Mr. Hunsuker, probably because his class was fairly easy to pass. What the students didn't know was the lessons he taught. Not only lesson plans, but life lessons. I remember seeing Mr. Hunsucker in the halls. I can remember his radiant smile, and his humble complexion. I always wanted the experience of having Mr. Hunsucker for a teacher, so I made sure of it. I applied for Algebra I because I knew Mr. Hunsucker taught that class. Not to my surprize, I got in his class. I can remember how excited I was to see him in class teaching! August could not come soon enough. The first day of August had finally arrived, and the first day of school was here. I looked at my schedule that read, "Gary Hunsucker, Algebra I – 4th Period". That whole day felt as long as the whole summer did waiting on that clock to read, "1:45". It seemed as if the clock ticked only a fraction of the speed it should. Finally, 1:45 came along and I rushed through the halls, like a horse in the derby. I made my way into Mr. Hunsucker's room quicker than a kid darting into a candy shop. Immediately, I got all my binders and papers out and prepared. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Year End Reflection Essay Year End Reflection 2016 When I think of grade 8, I think of all the sports I play and how much I developed as a student athlete from the beginning of the year to now. Why sports comes to mind when I think of grade 8 is because this would be the year where I'm transitioning from grade 8 to high school, which means I will have to start taking sports more seriously, because in high school sports, for example, in football you have to be really good, and you can't depend on being a "good athlete' because when you get to the next level of playing football (high school) everyone is a good athlete, and you start to realize that being athletic will only take you so far. My main sport that I play is football. I started playing football when I was 11, when I started I was pretty good. I was playing at a position lots of players wanted to play, linebacker, and I didn't really take it to my advantage because I know anything about football, but as that season went on I started getting better at my position, but the following year, I was played at a different position because the kids we were playing with were a year older than me, that's when I realized if I wanted to be a good player, I had to try, and that is when I really started developing in football, the...show more content... I developed a lot of skills this year, coming in as a kid who didn't take his school work seriously, I learned that school really does matter and I will need school if I want to do anything in life. This year specifically also taught me a lot of skills that I could use in high school like time management and being able to control myself when I have freedom in school. This year also taught me skills I didn't know I had, like if I separate myself from my friends I could complete lots of work without the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. My Experience As A Student Teacher Today's classroom is one of variety and challenge. I have seen first hand, in the classroom I observed this semester, the impact of various children's backgrounds. There were second graders from every walk of life and this diversity impacted how they interacted with each other, and, on some occasions, how the teacher interacted with them. When working with a group of children such as these, the educator must be aware of every aspect of diversity in their classroom. Diversity may come in many forms: academic achievement, race, language, or socioeconomic differences, and it may be difficult to address each of these needs individually. Regardless of these challenges, a successful teacher will have the ability to create an atmosphere which will turn the student's perceived "limitations" into their strongest ability. This what will keep them determined and ready to engage with the curriculum. My experiences as a student teacher showed me that the biggest barrier that I will have to surmount is finding a way to communicate the necessary information to my students so that they will learn and even thrive in my class. This is especially true when working in a low income area where students are worried about problems that are much bigger than school: where their next meal is coming from or how much money they can earn to help their family when they go to work that night. Such larger concerns will dwarf what happens in school, making homework seem irrelevant and /or impossible. With Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Becoming a teacher can be an exciting and challenging experience for anyone. It can be quite difficult to put four years of knowledge into their teaching and into a classroom environment. And while it may seem challenging at first it does become easier over time. A teacher is not only someone who teaches, but they are a symbol of learning. A teacher is a person who plays the most important role in the development of any student. The future of those students depends on the qualities and the dedication of that teacher. It is the teacher who creates an interest in students to develop and to progress. It is the teacher who helps the students achieve whatever aims they set for themselves. Teachers have a lot to do with motivating...show more content... The curriculum then becomes more relevant, therefore the motivation for the students to accomplish the tasks increases. The subject matter not only has to be relevant but it also has to be stimulating to the students' curiosity. If a student is bored with the content, they are not going to want to learn it. This could be things such as stickers or stamps on their homework and tests. Or it could be receiving verbal or written praise. It could be just the thing that motivates certain students. But not all students need to be extrinsically motivated. Teachers need to find out which type of motivation works best for which student to help them succeed. Classroom teaching is more likely to be effective when it is informed by an understanding of how students learn. Constructivism is the current approach to learning in Australian schools today. Constructivism is how each student goes about constructing his or her own knowledge. This type of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. My Cooperating Teacher who received the Teacher of the Year Award from Woodbridge High School in Irvine Unified School District, Ms. Christine Haley is an evident reminder that the excellent teachers are not born by chance. Ms. Haley's interview responses clarified why she has become such a role model for her colleagues as well as students. It is evident that her thorough knowledge in literature, composition, and linguistics confidently leads her students to greater subject interest and strong work ethic, too. Ms. Haley states that she has put together the 10th grade AP Language and Composition course several years ago. Since then, she continually reexamines the Common Core structures and applicable district selection of literature prior to the beginning of each school year. She schedules daily composition and linguistics lessons according to the rubrics of AP Language and Composition exam; she modifies weekly agenda pertinent to the students' comprehension pace throughout each month. She tells me that as an attempt to teach most effectively, she intentionally reminds herself of the master schedule throughout the year. Personally, it has been quite impressive to observe how this teacher combines such intriguing literature pieces in alignment with thematic topics along with the writing practices (e.g., narrative writing and grammar with The Catcher in the Rye, persuasive and historical writing with Julius Caesar). She selects the instructional materials /techniques from her Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Teacher's Salaries Essay Lurking over our great country is a troubling issue that is plaguing the professional educational workforce. When compared worldwide, American teachers work the most hours, yet are paid in the lowest brackets when related to the top 32 nations (Teachers Pay). In addition, when you compare a teacher's salary to other four year degree salaries, teachers are among the 5 lowest paid degrees (O'Shaughnessy). Not only are the salaries among the lowest in the American workforce, a typical teachers at home workload exceeds all other professional jobs by 20% (Current). Furthermore, teachers were only given a 2.3% salary raise in 2009. Yet the rate of inflation rose to 3.1% causing a loss in purchasing power and creating a hardship on the...show more content... According to an hourly wage, that would place a teacher's salary above accountants, computer programmers, and mechanical engineers at the entry level. In addition to the hourly rate, teachers often are given economic incentives that aren't available to other jobs (Teachers). These same researchers also claim that the benefits given to teachers far outweigh those of rival professions. Therefore, stating that based off limited research, teachers are paid an adamant amount of money, and need not complain (Anderson). In contrast there are many reasons why teachers truly are underpaid. First, what these researchers fail to make public, is the fact that the hourly wage that they base a teachers pay is centered only on the hours that a teacher is present at school. They do not take into consideration the hours that teachers put in at home. On average a teacher will work 20% more Sundays than any other profession, these hours will not be paid or documented into a teachers pay schedule. The reasoning behind the large at home workload comes from the excessive amount of homework and assignments that they must grade or create for previous and following work days. Secondly, they are often forced to work at multiple locations, with early starting hours ranging from 6 to 7 am. Furthermore, some of these locations can be extremely far, costing the teacher an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. My First Day As A Teacher The night before my first day as a teacher I was scared. It was something totally different for me; it was something I had never done before. Yes, I have made some microteachings at the university, but that was not the same as been in an actual classroom with kids observing you and waiting for you to teach them something. In my head, there were questions such as What am I going to do? What should I tell to the kids? Is this how it is supposed to be done? The next morning, I get up and prepare myself for my first class. Surprisingly, it went pretty good. Although I assumed that there were some things in which I needed to work on, in general, I used to think that I did a good job. Now, almost two years later and after spending this semester...show more content... This is something that happens to me: in my life as a student I am very quiet, observer, and introverted; in the other side, as a teacher I like to sing songs to my students (kindergartens), dance with them and, if possible, use some fun activities. Teachers' beliefs influenced different tasks such as: selecting and presenting learning activities, preparing students for new language and checking their understanding, monitoring students' learning, giving feedback, among others (Richards & Lockhart, 1994). I agree completely with this perception, because it is something that I have noticed since this course started: in the videos of my classmates, in the classes of my teachers, and in my own classes. Related to this, another topic seen during this semester was about the lesson plans as means of reflection. It was something very useful that never crossed my mind: writing some notes or observations about the class after it ended can be very helpful to discover things that otherwise may go unnoticed and at the end, it can help us to avoid doing the same mistakes over and over. I found this tool useful and important to my practice because it helped me to realize some situations that can present in a class and also it encouraged me to reflect on how can I solve those issues and avoid them to occur Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Teacher Evaluation Essay In 2009, the Race to the Top education initiative used federal grants to incentivize states to enact rigorous teaching reforms in K–12 education. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 built off the progress of this reform by urging states to explicitly define and improve teacher quality assessments. Today, states are tasked with identifying the goals and components of an effective, evidenced–based teacher assessment system. Attracting high–quality novice teachers, retaining and rewarding effective veteran teachers, and improving developing teachers constitute the three main goals of a rigorous an effective teacher evaluation system. However, standards–based observations create a rigorous, objective, and measurable rubric for educators to evaluate the quality of teacher performance: unsatisfactory, basic, proficient, and distinguished. These clear observation scales limit subjective bias given that it is clearly defined assessment rubric. However, accountability measures linked to a "limited sample of instruction can potentially effect reliability" and increase educational budget costs for administrative evaluation To that end, a teacher's instructional performance does not correlate with student achievement nor does it measure other qualities, such as "soft–skills". The value–added test provides an objective measure of assessment, emphasizing growth over proficiency. A teacher assessment system which uses value–added measurements captures a holistic evaluation of a teacher's performance. Meanwhile, a proficiency–based test demonstrates a student's ability to meet a benchmark on one test–an isolated measure. Value–added measures recognize the need for growth for all students, regardless of knowledge or skill. However, "a system based only on value–added measures would not be helpful for identifying the most effective teachers in a district." It is difficult to institute a common benchmark for value–added performance, given that student achievement across a district varies and scores are highly unpredictable from year to year. Additionally, students' Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. An Effective, Professional Teacher Essay Introduction The statement 'Teaching – reflections, questions, decisions' sums up what it means to be an effective teacher. Teachers are constantly making decisions about professionalism and ethics, teaching strategies, classroom management, and how to keep their students motivated. These decisions can have a major impact on student learning and how effective they are as teachers. Questioning is an essential–and one of the most important–instructional skills that a teacher can possess. Teachers need to be able to ask the appropriate types and levels of questions, such as the high and low order questions based on Bloom's taxonomy, as well as being skilled in responding to students answers. Teachers also need to be constantly evaluating and...show more content... It is essential to encompass all of these behaviours and standards to succeed in being an effective teacher, as they are in an authoritative position and therefore need to lead by example. Teacher professionalism is also dependant on professional judgement, which involves making decisions on what is the right thing to do in certain situations, and ethical behaviour. The code of ethics is based on respect, caring, integrity, diligence and open communication (Groundwater–Smith, Ewing & Le Cornu, 2007, p. 332). Sometimes teachers can come across 'ethical dilemmas' which are complex problems that have more than one solution, and in turn, each solution has different advantages and disadvantages, therefore having no clear correct answer (Groundwater–Smith et al., 2007, p. 336). For example, "You observe another teacher publicly humiliate a child who is known to have previously bullied other students. What do you do? Do you say anything?" Ethical dilemmas require teachers to explore all situations and outcomes, and make a decision on what is right and just. Professionalism and ethics together, as relevant to teachers, demands all of these appropriate behaviours and responses in any circumstance (Whitton et al., 2010, p. 123). Constructivism Teaching techniques and strategies, such as proactive teaching, collaborative learning and constructivism, can also affect the quality of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
