maculopathy)
• Age-related macular degeneration is a
type of macular disorder

7. RETINAL DETACHMENT
• A very serious eye condition
• Occurs when the retina separates from the tissue around it
• Can cause permanent loss of vision if not treated promptly
• People most prone to this are those who are severely nearsighted, have had an
eye injury, have had cataract surgery or have a family history of retinal
detachment
• Symptoms include flashes of light, seeing small flecks or threads and/or
darkening of the peripheral or side vision

• The uvea is the middle layer of the
