The Metamorphosis Analysis Essay
1. The Metamorphosis Analysis Essay
Crafting an essay on "The Metamorphosis" can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires a deep
understanding of Franz Kafka's complex narrative, intricate symbolism, and the psychological
nuances embedded within the text. Analyzing the protagonist's transformation into a giant insect
involves navigating through layers of metaphorical significance and delving into Kafka's
existential exploration.
To start, one must grapple with the profound themes of alienation, existentialism, and the
absurdity of human existence that Kafka weaves throughout the story. The narrative's surreal
nature adds an additional layer of complexity, demanding a careful unraveling of the symbolic
elements and their implications on the characters and the overall message.
Furthermore, constructing a coherent and insightful analysis requires a meticulous examination
of Kafka's writing style. His use of language, symbolism, and allegory demands attention to
detail, making it crucial for the essayist to decipher the author's intentions and convey them
effectively to the reader.
Addressing the characters' psychological dimensions, particularly the protagonist Gregor Samsa,
adds another dimension to the challenge. Understanding the impact of Gregor's transformation
on his relationships and self-perception involves a nuanced exploration of the human psyche,
blending literary analysis with psychological insight.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "The Metamorphosis" necessitates a synthesis of literary
prowess, analytical acumen, and a deep appreciation for Kafka's unique narrative style. It is a
task that demands more than just summarizing the plot; it requires a profound exploration of the
layers of meaning embedded within the text.

2. Comparing Daoism And Confucianism
While Daoism and Confucianism are of two different strains of thought they often
flow in the same way like two parallel rivers in governance in aspects of life, in
practice the two systems are often flow be each other to some degree but never
interconnect at any points. Confucianism deals with social matters, while Taoism
concerns itself with the search for meaning. They share common beliefs about man,
society, and the universe, although these notions were around long before either
philosophy. Confucianismand Daoism are the two most influential philosophies in
China both having their roots during the Zhou Dynasty The political and social
environment that inspired these schools of thought was the breakdown of the Zhou
monarchy and the rise of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters;
family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure order and unity. Man s virtue in
all its forms is called ren which would make sense but Daoism does not make much
sense the ideology in which the ideal ruler and government do not interfere in the
lives of the people and lead them to prosperity of primitive simplicity by nonaction
and focuses on intuitive spontaneity. It is civilization that has corrupted humanity
from its early state of innocence but realistically as a person or society lives and
ages there is no such thing as innocence as one must grow and learn. The sage
practices nonaction, gives up worldly ambitions, and lives a simple life in accord
with nature though that one does. The dedication to right relationships and a solid
social order contrast directly with the inner direct intuition of Taoism. While both
philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism may end up with the same result in having
a healthy society, one is taught and can culminate in results while the other is
impeded by environmental variables and through inaction and exclusiveness may

3. Use Of Geothermal And Solar Powered Desalination
Fig. 3.1. Combined cycle geothermal and solar powered desalination. The system is
powered by SE during daylight hours and by geothermal during night time and
cloudy days. This combined cycle operation allows the geothermal heat source to
be regenerated and allows less expensive collection wells to be drilled from [15].
There are three sorts of geothermal vitality frameworks; wet rock/water stream
(WR), common dry steam, and hot dry rock (HDR). In a wet rock framework,
warmth is removed from either normal water stream from springs or from wells
bored into a high temp water aquifer. The cooled water is hence released to the earth
or is re infused into the groundwater framework at some separation from the source
to permit warming and return into the framework. It works like the warmth pump
frameworks utilized as a part of building warming and cooling frameworks [16].
Regular dry steam frameworks have a tendency to happen close dynamic volcanic
action where groundwater interacts with normally warmed shake and delivers
superheated water underweight in the subsurface. The boring of a well into the
aquifer containing the superheated water permits the collecting of the steam with
ensuing entry through a turbine electrical era framework. In HDR geothermal
frameworks, warmth is extricated by making a man made arrangement of joined
wells with manufactured breaks used to interface an infused liquid from an infusion
well, through the cracks where warmth is removed, and at last to an

Muted colors are toned down by reducing the saturation of color. The use of muted
colors is an archetypal characteristic of the Cubism art movement, as a way to focus
on the subject matter (The deer), creates shallow space, and not distract the viewer.
The color pallet consists of the muted primary colors of blue, red, and yellow.
Franz Marc always associated color to certain meanings, and his approach to color
theory is stated in a letter written to fellow artist August Macke which says Blue is
the male principle, astringent and spiritual. Yellow is the female principle, gentle,
gay and spiritual. Red is matter, brutal and heavy and always the color to be
opposed and overcome by the other two (Marc). However, in the composition of
the painting, the colors in the background go from blue, then red is directly located
behind the group of deer, then a tinge of yellow. The color blue ensconces and
surrounds the red, except for the upper portion of the left hand side, which is
offset by a dash of yellow. Mixed from the color blue on the right side, and the
yellow on the left, the secondary color of green swallows up the rest of the upper
half of the background. Secondary colors like orange and green, are used on the
lower portion of the composition, in which the deer are colored orange, and the
foliage is green. The use of light shatters from the bottom right

I ve always been afraid of Arthur. Now I get to be afraid of Erik and Arthur. (Bloor
42) In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the message the reader gains is that
fear gives others power. In the beginning of Tangerine, Paul would never tell his
parents what Erik was doing because he was afraid of getting hurt. While Erik and
Arthur were laughing about Mike s death, Paul is looking for his mom too see what
they are doing, but She saw none of this. She heard none of this. (52) Paul wants his
mom to see Erik laughing, but since she wasn t there to see it, Paul won t say
anything about it. Paul s fearis giving Erik power because nobody is finding out that
Erik has bad intentions. This is giving Erik the idea that he can do whatever he...

going through a very intense day, so when Erik shows up, I was supposed to be

8. Writing Out Notes And Homework On A Computer
With technology s new advancements, students are getting their homework done a lot
sooner than they used to by writing their notes out on the computer instead of on
paper. Is getting homework done faster worth having to study longer later? Writing
out notes and homework by hand has more educational benefits than typing notes and
homework on a computer. Various studies have proven that writingnotes have a
variety of benefits that exceed those of typing notes on a computer; retention rate,
distractions, and higher grades.
In an experiment done by Mueller and Oppenheimer, students were instructed to take
notes, some students did so by hand, others by laptops. Afterwards, they were given a
test on what they took notes on. Students who wrote ... Show more content on

The results were that those who took the standard class had considerably higher
marks than those who took the hybrid class. Those in the hybrid course earned an
average of only 69.2% while the students in the lecture earned an average of 77.9%.
According to the researchers, students in the hybrid course were less engaged with
the material than those in the traditional section. (Adams) This is why they believe
that those who took the standard class were more successful in earning better grades
than the other students. In a different study by Robert Williams and Allan Eggert,
Notetaking aids one s ability to recall noted information and do well on exams related
to that information. This is why it is so important for students to take notes in class.
When you write out notes in class while the teacher is talking, you are forced to listen
and summarize the key points of the lecture because writing notes are significantly
slower than typing the notes. When students take notes on computers, they generally
tend to type exactly what is being said instead of focusing on why it is important.
When these students go back and read their notes, they don t have a decent
conceptual understanding of what was written beforehand. COnsequently, these
students need to spend more time studying to get the same results as
9. Visual Symbolism In Labyrinth By Jorge Luis Borges
Jorge Luis Borges, author of Labyrinth, questions in his short stories the illusory
nature of knowledge. The complexities of Borges s writing making clear that not
all things are easy to understand and decipher. In all his short stories the images
help the readers to understand the message or the meaning of the text. For
instance, Jorges uses much the images of the Mirror, the Labyrinth, the Circle, and
the mise en abyme to signal one of his great themes, knowledge as an illusion. He
lays emphasis on the infinity of knowledge and the impossibility of acquiring all of
it. He also speaks of metafiction in his short story; how books speak of other book
and how books allude to other books. In this essay, we will look at three different

The library is compared to a labyrinth with its composition of an indefinite and
perhaps infinite number of hexagonal galleries, with vast air shafts between,
surrounded by very low railings (Borges1962, p.62). The universe is compared to a
large and vast library whereby the latter s circumference is inaccessible (p.63). The
image of the labyrinth in the story suggests the idea of the universe as an infinite
library of knowledge and since the circumference is unreachable, we understand
that one cannot grasp all the knowledge of the world. What keeps men captured in
the cage of the universe is the fact that he cannot acquire all knowledge and all the
languages of the world: as was natural, this inordinate hope was followed by an
excessive depression. The certitude that some shelf in some hexagon held precious
books and that these precious books were inaccessible, seemed almost intolerable
(Borges1962, p.66) This story makes us question our knowledge. How much to do we
know about the universe? As we have seen, through the image of the labyrinth,
human knowledge is infinite. To conclude, visual symbolism is important in
decoding Borges fiction because it is those images that help the reader interpret the
short story. Furthermore, the imageries, that Borges had used, are what render his
work

In this project, I will describe a scenario in which I am developing within my own
ministry to engage people in helping them think theologically. The Church today is
suffering greatly because many people are not engaged in Scripture, practicing
spiritual disciplines, or thinking theologically. I hope to create a pattern to correct
that and give them the ability to not just learn a little each week from a sermon, but
take everything that comes at them and learn from it, while giving them the ability to
teach others as well.
Examining three models found in this week s reading, Aware Engage Apply (Grenz
and Olson 129 130), Attending Asserting Acting (Christian Thinking) and Analysis
Reflection Application (Umbel), each three fold model had the same basic principle:
intake of knowledge, processing that knowledge, and using that knowledge. In order
for this to be effective, I will need to address each of the three legs so that everything
remains balanced. First, the intake of knowledge (other models use awareness,
analysis, or attending), must be biblical sound. If people are to think theologically,
they must be taught theologically first, which means we must teach them to Word of
God in its entirety, not just select Scriptures to back up our thought of the day.
The second leg of thinking is the processing of that knowledge; once a believer
receives knowledge, he or she must know how to process that information in light of
God and the Scriptures. While everyone thinks
11. The Romantic Movement
The Romantic Movement, known for its emphasis on the emotional aspect of
literature, was a period when such novels as Frankenstein; or the Modern
Prometheus were written, being very different than novels written before this era.
Romantic thinkers and writers, such as Mary Shelley, believed that imagination was
the crucial way of thinking. They often depicted their heroes in their novels as
creative artists that are determined to push beyond society s restrictions and ways of
life. Mary Shelley was similar to these writers of such concepts and had incorporated
many of these principles in her own novel, Frankenstein. She was apprehensive about
the healing powers of nature in the face of unnatural events, the use of one s
knowledge for good or evil intentions, the way the uneducated or poor were treated,
and the rapid increase of technology into the modern day.
Mary Shelley was born in London, England on August 30, 1797. Her parents were
William Godwin, a philosopher, and Mary Wollestonecraft, a feminist. Her parents
were well known writers during the 1800s. Political Justice, written in 1793, was
her father s most famous book which took a critical look at society and the ethical
treatment of people. Mary Shelley s mother promoted her feminist views in her
book, A Vindication of the Rights of Women (Coghill). William and Mary had only
been married for five months when Mary Shelley was born and nine days later, Mary
Wollestonecraft died from puerperal fever (Ginn). Her mother
12. The Paradoxes of Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a country of complex paradoxes; although it has made huge strides in
economic growth, poverty reduction and development, the political scene remains
volatile. In fact, several historical, social, and conditions and contextual factors
remain at play, affecting the democratization process. Drawing upon a procedural
definition of democracy, free, fair, and competitive elections and the guarantee of civil
rights and civil liberties for the citizenry must exist in order to promote
democratization in Bangladesh. Democratization, according to Canadian
International Development Agency s (CIDA) definition, refers to the process of
strengthening popular participation, building democratic institutions and practices,
and deepening societal democratic values. Despite having the framework of a
parliamentary democracy and Western democratic institutions, there has been a
downward trend in democratization in Bangladesh. Behind the façade of
democracy, instability, weak political institutions, patrimonial politics, patronage, and
political polarization exist. In this case, Bangladesh can be potentially classified as an
illiberal democracy, or even an electoral autocracy. As such, the country still faces
considerable obstacles; the prevention of a reverse wave back to authoritarianism, and
the encouragement towards further democratization and democratic consolidation,
require further assistance and new approaches in order to address these challenges.
Since the 1990s, the

Sexual predators suffer from low self esteem with a need for power and control. They
lack empathy.
Many reported offenders are male, with a history of abuse and a troubled
childhood. Men are child molesters in at least ninety seven percent of reported
cases (Sanford, 83). One investigation noted eighty percent of sexual offenders had
committed their first crime by age of thirty with all by the age of forty. Between 200
and 300 men are prosecuted to every one woman (Sanford, 83). Research has
uncovered repeated drug and/or alcohol abuse issues among convicted predators.
Lastly, sexual offenders suffer from deviant sexual behavior and attitudes (Henderson,

more to the child s age then the offenders (Sanford, 87). Offenders do not form
intimate relationships with other adults (Henderson, 39). Eight five percent of sexual

17. Music And Its Effect On Society
Music can produce many effects, mental and physical, in listeners and participants.
Cultures throughout history have recognized these effects and used music for
healing, productivity, and socialization. Currently different aspects that affect
individuals chemistry, development, and performance are being studied. The placebo
effect, a common mind over matter concept, will be looked at in its relation to music.
The chemistry behind music is not as revolutionary as one might assume. For
simplicity music is stimuli and the body has automatic responses to it. The base
response is the brain stem reacting to the tempo of the music (Chanda and Levitin
pg 186). Music increases blood flow in several regions of the brain, and dopamine
bonding which allows for better processing and more enjoyment (pg 182). When
stimulating or fast music was played cortisol levels increased, and with relaxing
music cortisol decreased; cortisol opens pathways used for anti stress and anti
inflammatory processes. Listening to music and singing also increased production of
Immunoglobulin A, an antibody (Chanda and Levitin pg 184). This chemistry is the
body preparing itself for action; this action will be discussed to better explain what is
happening when music is listened to. There is widespread public knowledge of music
s effect on the development of children, mentally and physically. Participating in
Physical Education activities paired with music with clear rhythms assists in the

1. From the economic analysis provided by PC b, Envision Alachua definitely
appears to be an appetizing approach to utilizing Alachua County s property. PC b
states that conservation easements are likely to provide tens of millions of dollars
of value to the public in the form of forest ecosystem services (pp 18).One of the
goals of the Envision plan is to provide Alachua with recreation, aesthetics, and
cultural use through 23, 216 acres of conversation easement while also addressing
the rivalry of those goals with resources management and private use. While
conservation will diminish resource utilization for private use, PC b goes on to
state that between $18.2 and 72.8 million is valued for the services of timber,
carbon sequestration, and water quality, thus increasing natural resource common
pool goods. Regardless, even If these areas are protected from pure private use, the
county is still saving money long term as they will not have to invest in water
quality initiatives or carbon reduction. Additionally, the potential for public benefit
is even acknowledged in the dissenting SP B article, in the form of jobs for
surrounding areas which can also be seen as a Common Pool good. All in all, at the
surface, Envision Alachua seems like a promising plan that balances public and
private wants to effectively manage and conserve land through economic development

story that I chose is titled When the Game Stands Tall. This film consists of a high
performing football team of De La Salle High School in the state of California. Jim
Caviezel portrays the head coach (Bob Ladouceur) as a man with such vision and
passion that goes beyond the fundamental principles of coaching the game of
football. The football team had won 151 games without being defeated which is the
highest winning record a team has had in the game of football. The film shows the
internal struggles of the players in their lives as people, and how they perform on the
field. It also shows the external tragic difficulties that they face while they attend and
play for De Le Salle High School. In the movie, the head coach helps the students
/players by not only coaching them but also showing them how to live a flourishing
life by committing to endure difficult life situations and the way to overcome them.
He helps teach the principles of brotherhood and companionship with the team that
they build. In the movie, the head coach and the staff had taught the players
22. School Uniforms Persuasive Essay
The Benefits of Uniform Adoption in Public Schools Ever wonder what it would
look like to have all students wearing the same white polo shirt, black pants, and a
district sweater walking in the hallway? Nowadays, public school and many districts
are discussing the possibilities of enforcing the uniform policy. In most places, many
private schools already require students to have their mandatory uniforms; however,
there are only a few public schools adopting this mandatory school uniform polices as
one of their enrollment requirements. The reason why not all public schools
participated was because people believe that they are violating the freedom of choice
when enforcing this mandatory uniform policy; yet problems... Show more content on

Young adolescents get distracted easily compared with the mature adults. Fancy
goods always attract people by their fantastic look and bring them to the fashion side.
Consequently, students would pay more of their attention to the latest fashion instead
of their school work. Then the school work will not be done on time because
majority of their time is spent on the fashion. Without paying attention and making
great efforts, school work can only be abandoned eventually. However, like
Walmsley emphasized, when public schools require their students to wear the
mandatory uniform, students will not have any struggle about choosing what clothes
to wear today and tomorrow. In other words, students will have more time spending
on school work. Another point is that the purpose of students going to school is
gaining knowledge and preparing for their future. Students learn how to dress
formally as a student in school. The adoption of this district uniform could help them
to prepare the way professionals dressed. The next advantage of public school
uniforms can be identified as the reduction of bullying behaviors. Everyone benefits
by adopting the uniform policy. It helps students to unite and share a same goal

In 1991, Vanilla Ice appeared on the Arsenio Hall Show for a now infamous
interview. Hall went at the white rap phenomenon like a shark smelling blood,
grilling him about his past, his dancing, his relationships with other rappers, and
more. I know a lot of black rappers are probably angry because some of the white
people screaming didn t buy rap until you did it... until they saw a vanilla face on
the album... Surprisingly, Vanilla Ice s response seemed to win the studio audience
over that night, even causing them to heckle the show s host. In 1991, new artists

If my rap is intelligent, it s because I listened to black artists like KRS One and
Chuck D. Nearly everything that my white fans now celebrate about my craft and

fans are more likely to identify with me and my music. White rappers are more
likely to find themselves in rooms full of white fans, who have come to listen to
rap music with varied understandings of its black origins. Those white fans are also
likely to represent and experience the entire spectrum of white privilege, white
frailty, and white supremacist ideas. In the end, whether they acknowledge it or
ignore it, only a fool would try to deny it: White rappers are bound to have some
racist white fans. The question white rappers ultimately need to answer is then: Am I
comfortable performing for people with racist beliefs, helping solidify their racist
ideas via my art, and benefiting from their

forced vital capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and
torso/height ratio on forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in
looking at the largest amount of air a person can forcefully exhale and continue
exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as a person can. If gender has an
effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC of females. If
there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will
FVC. If there is a correlation between torso length and FVC then the longer a torso

28. Literary Criticism Of The Ones Who Walk Away Essay
Can a literary criticism involving African Americans further enhance the
understanding of a short story about a utopian society? It may seem improbable from
the surface because these two pieces of literature seem unrelated when viewed
without intensity. The literary criticism, Playing in the Dark, describes the roles of
African Americans in literature and how these roles can also reflect and impact our
current culture and world. On the other hand, the fictional short story, The Ones Who
Walk Away from Omelas describes a utopian society called Omelas and the lifestyle of
its inhabitants. However, after understanding African Americanism and the
connection of dark and whitesymbolism through Toni Morrison s criticism, readers
can then comprehend the seemingly simple characters and the plot in The Ones
Who Walk Away From Omelas in better detail. Also, the ambiguous details of the
plot of The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas are become more clear when
examined through the eyes of Toni Morrison and her criticism on literature.
Therefore, through the analysis of the concepts such as the co dependency and
reverse symbolism of black and white and the idea of naturalized associations in
African Americanism mentioned in Playing in the Dark, the symbolic meaning of the
roles of dark and lightand the relationship of happiness and sadness throughout The
Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas are brought into greater context through the city
of Omelas, it surroundings, and its inahbitants.

29. Essay on Objectification of Women in The House of Mirth
Objectification of Women in The House of Mirth
Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth is an affront to the false social values of
fashionable New York society. The heroine is Lily Bart, a woman who is destroyed
by the very society that produces her. Lily is well born but poor. The story traces the
decline of Lily as she moves through a series of living residences, from houses to
hotel lodgings. Lily lives in a New York society where appearances are all. Women
have a decorative function in such an environment, and even her name, Lily,
suggests she is a flower of femininity, i.e. an object of decoration as well as of
desirability to the male element. We see this is very true once Lily s bloom fades, as it
were, a time when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The irony of the situation is that most women who are accepted by society and are
able to maintain the role of being something worthy to look at are able to do so
only because of a husband who supplies them with the necessary funds to achieve it.
In other words, in a male dominated society wherein women largely need the
financial support of men to be accepted, they have become commodities. Lily
recognizes this predicament when she ponders her marriage to Percy Gryce, a
position where she would be to him what his Americana hitherto had been: the one
possession in which he took sufficient pride to spend money on (Wharton 65).
Yet, this very society that demand its women be superficial creatures that merit worth
only by appearance is also one which immediately rejects a woman who seems intent
on marrying a man with wealth the one course open to women who wish to be
accepted in society. This may be where one of Lily s character qualities prevents
her from being able to join such a society. She is no good at hiding her desire to
marry a man of wealth. In fact, she even tells Selden, her true love, that she is very
expensive and must have a great deal of money (Wharton 31). These kinds of
admissions make Lily appear to be the one thing this superficial society cannot bear a
scheming adventuress out to snag a rich

Part 1: Behavioral Matrix
A behavioral matrix creates the expectations for student behavior in the classroom
and school campus. A school wide behavioral matrix lists the school wide
expectations for various times, location and transitions. Classroom teacher specific to
that classroom creates a classroom behavioral matrix. Both school wide behavioral
matrix and classroom matrix should contain the rules that are listed in the school
wide expectations. These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is
posted in classrooms, gym, cafeteria, hallway, and bus. According to Knoff (2007),
behavioral matrix sets the behavioral expectations expectation within specific
settings and contexts for students and hold them accountable. Table 1 reflects
dangerous behavioral problems categorized in the Level IV as explained in the

In fact Kony 2012 targets a very specific group of people that group is the youth and
I would have to say Western youth. Many critics denounced Kony 2012 because it s
recurrence of familiar narrative, that of middle class and predominately white, young
American saving Africans from their own self imposed miseries (Fisher, 202). Kony

products that they used to promote Invisible Children like apparel, bags, bracelets,

Peirce s essay describes the process of human thinking in its many variables to

The author starts by stating the meaning of clear and obscure, distinct and
confused. A clear idea is defined as one that can be simply recognized and that
cannot be mistaken for any other thing, if it is not so, then it is considered obscure.
From Peirce s point of view an idea must be distinct in order to be clear, than means
that the person must be familiar to it.

mentions how Descartes did not understand that the machinery of the mind can only

America is known as the land of opportunity. For some, that meant the opportunity to
grab what they could with no fear of the law. In the early 1900s, the era of dizzying
social change, anything seemed possible. With the right street smarts and gumption
to pull any job off, many immigrants rushed to America to better their family s lives.
Members of each family would do whatever possible to make that household better,
no matter the cost or consequence. This shifty attitude stemmed from many years of
family loyalty, well, that was the case of many Italians from Sicily. This exuberant
can do spirit coursed through America s immigrant filled cities, industrial heartland,
and freewheeling west, all fertile ground for empires to be built and money to be
made. This was the birth of the mafia. There were four prominent mafias in the
beginning years of America, and they were the Italian mafia, Russian mafia, Irish
mafia, and the Jewish mafia. However, the focus of this paper will be solely based
on the Italian mafia, and how family honor, respect, drugs, money, and running from
the law created a fixation and aspiration on the American gangster image. When we
think of the Italian Mafia, we think of mobsters such as Joe Gallo, Tommy
Lucchese, Charles Lucky Luciano and Al Capone. These men left a legacy behind
for the mafia to succeed, and history remembers their names. Yet these sensational

Social interactions, cognitive processes, environmental variables, cultural context,
and biological factors shape what social psychology is all about and how it is
practiced in that social psychologists are mostly interested in an individual with
emphasis on all the things that make an individual who they are and why they act and

Obviously this is an undeniable factor that social psychologist have to examine and

Biological factors contribute the to practice and shaping of social psychology in that
(and I totally agree probably more so than the text) we have inside of us certain
tendencies that we received through genetics and the biological process. The text
states that this has occurred do to variation, inheritance, and selection, which
would insure our survival as a species and be passed on to future generations

genetics play a role in who in what we are in our most raw state. I believe this

In The Sound of Waves, Yukio Mishima creates an exquisite story which has strong
idealistic and mythic features. Although Mishima writes of young love and
tranquility in The Sound of Waves, his later works are categorized as aggressive and
containing violent sexual actions. Even Mishima himself referred to The Sound of
Waves as that great joke on the public (qtd. in Ishiguro 385). However, one cannot
compare this novel to Mishima s other literary pieces; in order to classify it as
romanticized, one must evaluate the usage of imagery, an idealized setting, mythical
allusions, and characterizations which establish the romantic driven qualities in The

Mythical allusions described by Mishima serve to highlight the other qualities
within The Sound of Waves. When Shinji first catches sight of Hatsue, she is
letting her hair stream and her cheeks glow (7). These characteristics are shown
many times throughout the novel and resemble Vergil s depictions of goddesses
such as Venus and Juno in the Aeneid. One conflict that Hatsue must overcome is
when Yasuo attempts to rape her; his plot was obstructed by the intervention of a
furious hornet. Hatsue sees the flashing of the little golden colored wings and
wonders what god it [is] who [has] come to her rescue. (93).The interference of the
hornet seems far fetched, for most would think that the hornet would not only attack
Yasuo, but also Hatsue. In this case, Mishima created an idealized situation were
nature as saved Hatsue from the immoral actions of Yasuo. The setting of the island
Uta jima is idealized, which creates a place where the romance between Hatsue and
Shinji can seem realistic. The reader begins the novel with a description of this island

41. Analysis Of The Book Fierce Invalids Home From Hot...
As we read through this story we become aware of Switters contradictory nature,
rather than eschewing this trait he embraces it. He is a CIA agent who hates the
government. He is a pacifist who carries a gun and so on. Switters and his
grandmother, Maestra, come up with six qualities that denote the wisdom; they may
or may not be required for wisdom, but they certainly drive Tom Robbinss writing
style. GOOD INTRO
When talking about wisdom to someone unaware of the process to OF becoming
wise, one may say that wisdom is knowing all there is to know about life; another
may say that wisdom is having ultimate knowledge and insight through experience. I
personally agree with Tom Robbins when he describes the six qualities needed for
wisdom.
For instance, in the novel Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climate, Switters, a
rogue CIA agent, is confined to the physical and potentially spiritual elevation of a
borrowed wheelchair by the curse of a reclusive South American shaman. This
particular event occurs early on in the novel and is a perfect example of spirituality.
Both Switters and his acquaintance R. Potney Smithe had spells cast upon them. The
shaman, End of Time explained what he had done, but neither of the men could truly
believe or understand what had been done. So to test the spell Smithe touches
Switters S penis and falls to the ground, stone cold, dead. Switters couldn t
comprehend the reality of dying from some superstitious taboo. So from that day on
he resides in a
42. The Divine Number
Among all religions, all nations, and all cultures, one unique character is shared.
Whether it be engraved within the ancient grounds of Ireland, where tombs are
covered in trinomial swirls, or the works of the famous mathematician Pythagoras,
who discovered the most simple and most perfect complete polygon, the number
three is used everywhere. The importance of this digit can be found in many places,
including our religious beliefs, our world s history, and even in modern day
mysteries. Everyone on Earth has some form of religion, whether they worship a god,
multiple gods, or no god at all. Almost all of these religions have had some sort of
past with this hallowed numeral. One religion in particular, one of the world s
most famous religions, that showcases this number spasmodically is Christianity.
In this religion, we are separated into three worlds: Earth, Heaven, and Hell, so
from the very start, the number had been introduced, but it ceases to halt here. God
had Moses build him a box, famously known as the Arc of the Covenant, and only
three items are worthy enough to be placed inside this box: The Ten
Commandments, which were touched by the hand of god. A jar of Manna food that
fell from the sky to feed the people while they traveled for many days and nights and
lastly, Aaron s rod, which is a walking staff that can turn into a snake on command of
the holder. After Jesus dies, he resurrects in three days. You have the Godhead three
in one, the Father, the Spirit,

44. The Importance Of Theater In Ancient Greece
Theater has prevailed throughout the years, dating back to ancient times and still
having importance in society today. Texts of ancient Greek comedy and tragedy
have survived for over two thousand years, because a small handful of people
thought they were worth preserving. It is a wonder that these plays are still around
today, considering how much time has passed and the differences between society
today and that of ancient times, also taking into consideration the difference in
speech and language. Theater in the ancient world served as a source of
entertainment for the people. Most of the evidence that is used today are from
vases, which can tell a lot about what happened back in ancient Greece. Scenes are
played out on vases, with most being Dionysian or mythological narratives.
Painters avoided representing tragic scenes literally as they would be portrayed in
the theater, but instead a further reality of the myth. Even minute details about this
evidence was important, including the shape of the pots the work was on. Mythic
tragic scenes could be found on large, prestigious vessels like volute kraters, while
a comic scene might decorate a bell krater or small jug (oinochoe) which served
wine at a drinking party (Hughes 5). Vases are not the only archeological evidence, as
terracotta figurines are another source of knowledge for those wanting to learn about
the costumes worn in comedy in ancient Greece. Nearing the end of the fifth century,
the earliest comedy figurines were produced in Athens. These figurines were mostly
static, unlike vase paintings were the scene was full of action and engagement. These
terracotta figurines were souvenirs for the people to buy in admiration of their
favorite characters. People cherished them and even took them to their graves, where
they were found by archeologists (Hughes 39). Other than using vase paintings and
archeological evidence, some of the information known today was based on the
reconstruction of the texts from the time. The writers of the tragedies and comedies
that survived were Athenians. The dramatic festivals for which they composed took
place in the theater dedicated to Dionysus, one of their gods, located in the sanctuary
that contained his temple

47. Character Analysis Of Ralph In Lord Of The Flies
Ralph s Internal Struggle Throughout William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Ralph,
the fair leader, responds to his unique setting in many ways. At first, Ralph is
ecstatic to be on the island and to have freedom from society s rules, adult
oversight, and authority. However, he soon finds that an irrational fear of a beast
threatens to cause chaos amongst the boys. When all rules are forgotten and
savagery reigns without authority, he takes it upon himself to enforce the island s
laws in an effort to maintain order and morality. In the end of the novel, Ralph
starts to lose the specific character traits that define him as a productive leader as
the boys around him turn savage and civilization fades from their society. As the
novel progresses, Ralph takes a turn for the worse as he forgets his core principles
and is tempted by savagery. When Ralph first arrives on the island, he is a civilized
leader. When he learns that no adults inhabit the island, the delight of the
realization overcame him (2). He admires the beauty and laughs as he swims in the
salt water. Almost immediately, he draws the boys on the island to him by the use
of a conch and the group elects him their leader as a result of his fair appearance
and possession of the conch. After exploring the island, he tells the boys that This is
our island. It s a good island. Until the grownups come to fetch us, we ll have fun
(27). It is apparent that Ralph wants to have civilization on the island as he starts
