Terror at the mall
This documentary examines a terrorist attack that occurred at a mall. It uses a mixed documentary style incorporating interviews, footage of the actual event, and narration. The documentary follows the stories of multiple people who were at the mall during the attack. - 1. The Mekong River with Sue Perkins Type of Documentary- Self reflexive Themes- nature, wildlife, poverty, wildlife trafficking Narrative Structure- Open, this documentary presents the facts about wildlife trafficking but it lets the audience come to their own judgement on wildlife trafficking. Camerawork- There is lots of wide shots which help to show the scene of the documentary. This includes lots of shots of jungles to reinforce the theme of wildlife. Close up shots are used to show facial expressions of people in the documentary. Low angle, long shot along the river is to show how the river goes on into the distance and the low angle is used to show how nature dominates us. Editing- Slow motion shots are used on the water this is to reinforce the theme of nature in the documentary and how it works. Shots of the motor bike are put together to play in a fast past, this has been used to show that the motor bike is fast moving and to create pace in the documentary. Fading out of the sunset is used to show the end of the day and also the end of the clip. Mise en Scene- a lot of the mise en scene is of the topical places where the documentary was filmed. The mise en scene constantly of rain forrest areas and wildlife conservations sites. This is to constantly reinforce the fact that the documentary is about nature. Sound- most of the sound in the documentary is diagetic as its mostly the presenter of the documentary narrating the documentary. Some of the sound is non-diagetic as there is a voice over on some parts to give extra information. Also there is some background music which is added to tie together the mise en scene. Graphics- During the documentary to show her traveling along the river, graphics of a map are used to map out where she has been and where she is traveling to. This is used to amke it easier for the audience to understand where the documentary is set.
