The Logo Of Bacardi
The logo for the Bacardi brand has been changed quite a few times. It has been recently rebranded
and given a more vintage look inspired by the Bacardi hand–drawn bat designs from the early
1900s. The bat logo was chosen because from the beginning many of Bacardi's potential clients
were illiterate, and the image of the bat helped them to remember the rum. It is also used because it
stays true to the integrity of the original symbol. In Cuban and Spanish heritage bats represent good
health, fortune, and family unity. This new/old look makes Bacardi look a little bit more
sophisticated and also quirky. Far from the cartoon style that it once had, in the new logo, they got
rid of the yellow/gold colour which makes it look cleaner, it's a smaller and ... Show more content

The Bacardi logotype is much more eye–catching when looked upon and the letter design leaves
little space for flair. The accent on the 'I' reminds the consumer that it is a product from a Cuban and
Spanish culture, it also looks more bold than the previous version and along with the particular
angular quality with the two A's, this sets a reminder of their "Untamable" feature. Bacardi has
changed to this more straight style of logo that resembles that of vodka logos which almost puts
them directly opposite to the classical rum style. Usually, rum brands want their logos to create an
exotic feel with persistent modernity. This Bacardi logo is what is going to make their rum stand out,
it will be unique compared to the rest of the rum brands. Usually rum is associated with palm trees
and pirates, this simple yet memorable logo will appeal to the crowd of consumers nowadays that
accepts respectability and slick new professionalism. This way Bacardi demonstrates the
understanding that they have developed in the way that they are targeting their audience and the way
that they want to advertise their

Women In The Factory By Ann Farnsworth-Alvear
Over the course of the first half of the twentieth century, factory work, particularly in textiles, in the
Colombian city of Medellin, shifted as being almost exclusively women's work to almost
exclusively men's work. The book Dulcinea in the Factory traces this transition, putting it in context
by going through the full history of factories in Medellin. From the establishment of factories, the
early hiring practices, strikes and their effects on factory work, and the gradual transition of men
becoming the primary workers. The author, Ann Farnsworth–Alvear, argues her thesis that the
transition from a primarily female workforce to a primarily male workforce is due to changes in
what was seen as proper or improper work for women as opposed to ... Show more content on

The establishment of the El Control system eradicated the family environment once cultivated by
factory owners. Results were now the overarching goal of the factories and human nuisance was
attempted to be scheduled out. This reorganization of how factories operated meant that hiring
across the board was reduced. Hiring that did occur was exclusively male, the cause of which is
cited as new engineers who taught Medellin factory owners how to restructure their factories
favored males. The truth was that "since the late 1930s, mill–owners had been steadily replacing
female operatives with males." The new American engineers who preferred men "merely capped a
process that had begun with the identification of la mujer obrera as being separate from la clase
obrera [the working class]." It was now gender normative for males to work in textile factories and
for women to be absent from them. The final firm transition to fully male factories was induced by
Medellin factory owners importing gender norms, just as the establishment of women as textile
factory workers in the early 1900s had

Brief Description Of Manila, Philippines
BODY
I. Brief Description of Manila, Philippines.
Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it is located in Luzon; which is the largest island in the
archipelago. Due to its convenient location for a trade route, it is known as the Pearl of the Orient.
Before Manila was rebuilt, the city suffered many episodes of destruction during World War II
(WWII) where the Japanese invasion occurred. Even though Manila is believed to be one of
Southeast Asia's best capital cities for its breathtaking views and culture, it has its flaws. Manila is
filled with crime, corruption, overpopulation, and the daily inevitable and cumbersome traffic jams.
Yet, this city is still the biggest, most developed and prosperous when compared to the other cities in
the Philippines.
II. The Importance of Preserving Historical Landmarks
Historical landmarks are just as important as every other building that has ever existed. They all
have a purpose; yet people still choose to demolish these structures. It shows a lack of respect
towards the architectural monuments. Most believe that creating brand new buildings is cheaper and
more beneficial rather than maintaining the ancient ones but it is the opposite. You can save money
by preserving them; building a brand new structure costs more.

Similarities Between Galen, Paracelsus, Spinoza, And The...
Chapter 16 Assignment #2 16.3 – 16.6
VOCABULARY:
Galen, Cavendish, Paracelsus, Vesalius, Descartes, Scientific Method, Bacon, Spinoza, Pascal
1. Galen. Galen was a physician of Greek descent and was well known for his influences on the
medieval medical world. Galen mainly did experiments on animals rather than humans which
caused his humanistic generations to be inaccurate. Galen was able to take color of a patient's urine
to be able to tell what was wrong with him/her.
2. Cavendish. Margaret Cavendish is considered to be one of the inspirational female scientists to all
sorts of people. Like many other women in France, Cavendish was raised as an aristocrat. Margaret
Cavendish had no problem giving her opinion when it came to her personal belief.
3. Paracelsus. Paracelsus was one of the most influential medical scientists that was one of the first
to begin making changes throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. He had a passion for curing his
patients however, was problematic when it came to considering the remedies.
4. Vesalius. Andreas Vesalius worked with Galen in Paris after reading a text that Galen wrote, the
text inspired Vesalius to pursue the understanding of the human body. Vesalius wrote the book
"Fabrica". Galen was different in a way where he used more of a hands–on approach when it came
to his work.
5. Descartes. Rene Descartes was one of the key figures during the Scientific Revolution. He
believed in the concept of mind over matter which was called Cartesian

Andreas Vesalius Biography Andreas Vesalius, Flemish Anatomist and Physician, was born on 1514
in Brussels (currently Belgium) during the reign of the Roman Empire. He was the legacy of many
physicians including his father and grandfather, who serviced the Roman Emperor. Vesalius was a
student in the University of Louvain and the University of Paris, where he studied medicine. He
spent his time comparing Greek documents with Arabic translations and wrote a thesis on the work
of Islamic physician and surgeon, Al Razi. Shortly after he received a degree from University of
Padua in 1537, immediately then he got assigned as chair of surgery and anatomy. He is best known
as the founder and father of the modern science of anatomy. His first Anatomy text book was based
on the human dissections he made himself. Achievements: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

curriculum for his students in Anatomy. He also wrote a pamphlet on bloodletting, which was a
common form of treatment for several diseases at that time. In 1539, he was finally able to make
human dissections. Vesalius stood against the belief of men and women having different number of

Genius During The Scientific Revolution
During the Scientific Revolution scientists created many new discoveries. For example, the better
understanding of the human body and the way it works, and the invention of many instruments used
for medical purposes. Many discoveries and inventions helped to start the advancement in the
medical field. During the Scientific Revolution there was a brilliant physician named Andreas
Vesalius, who was often known as the founder of the human anatomy. Now around the time, the
dissection of a human body had only just became an acceptable practice. Vesalius took advantage of
the practice and before the 16th century and he would steal the corpses of criminals that had been
hung and he would dissect them to analyze the structure of the human body (BrainBlogger). ... Show

Harvey was the first scientists to accurately lay out and describe the functions of the human
circulatory system. In 1593, at the age of 21 Harvey attended the University of Padua in Italy. His
teacher Hieronymus Fabricius and him had become good friends and he had taught Harvey to use
the method of dissection to better understand the human body. He had learned about the arteries and
veins in the circulatory system and the valves within the veins. Harveys discovery dates back all the
way to the thirteenth century when the respiratory system was described by Ibn al–Nafis. Harvey
was well interested in the vascular system he decided to write a book containing his work called
'Exercitatio Anatomica de Motu Cordis et Sanguinis in Animalibus' ( Latin for "An Anatomical
Exercise on the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Living Beings") or more commonly known as "
De Motu Cordis" which was later published in 1628 in Frankfurt (Famous Scientists). In 1553, a
spanish theologian and physician named Michael Servetus believed that the blood would travel from
the heart and then into the lungs, where it combines with air and then circulates back to the heart.

intrigued my interest in anatomy on the grounds of learning about his books on human anatomy
called De Humani Corporis Fabrica. Learning about this book solidified my viewpoint onto the field
of biology; that is is most certainly something I want to study and participate in for my life. That

Essay On Renaissance Health And Medicine
How far did health and medicine improve during the Renaissance?'
Introduction
Health and medicine changed considerably during the Renaissance in some areas and in some areas
it remained the same. Major changes were seen in the fields of anatomy and surgery, as seen in the
published works of Vesalius, Leonardo Da Vinci and William Harvey. But there was not much
improvement when it came to cures and treatments and also finding out the causes of diseases.
Public healthcare remained almost the same, although some efforts were carried out by the rich and
powerful to bring about a change. Overall, there was only a little improvement in this field from the
Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

Andreas Vesalius (1514–1564), a professor of medicine at Padua University, and Leonardo Da Vinci
(1452–1519), a world renowned artist, performed multiple dissections on dead bodies of criminals.
They created detailed drawings of all the things they observed during the autopsies, which formed
the basis for the understanding of the inner workings of the human body (Blakstad, 2011). Vesalius
also published a book with these drawings called 'De Humani Corporis Fabrica' (Fabric of the
human body) in the year 1543 (Bbc.co.uk, 2014). William Harvey, a London doctor proved that
blood circulates around the body and is pumped by the heart. He described how it happened in the
book he published in 1628 called 'Exercitatio Anatomica de Motu Cordis et Sanguinis in
Animalibus' (Anatomical Account of the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals) (Trueman,
2015). There were many more doctors, teachers, researchers like Servetus, Columbo, Caselpino, and
Fabricius who played a very important role in the advancement in the understanding of the human

25–year old Vesalius demonstrated to students at his lectures how wrong Galen had been by rigging

Andreas Vesalius The Father Of Human Anatomy
Andreas Vesalius was one of the greatest minds of the Renaissance, he is frequently referred to as
the founder of modern human anatomy. The reason he accurately represents the Renaissance is
because of his dedication, persistence and intelligence. He was extremely dedicated to learn the truth
about the human anatomy. No matter the difficulties that he came across, he was determined to find
the truth, and because of this, he created the basic outline of human anatomy in modern studies and
shared his knowledge by writing his book called "De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem",
which is translated into "On the Fabric of the Human Body". Andreas Vesalius proved his dedication
by disproving Galen's discoveries about human anatomy. He did this even though many people had

the research he had done while dissecting human cadavers ( "De Humani Corporis Fabrica", 2009),
unlike Galen who had based his research on animal dissections. He showed intelligence through his
research by interpreting countless types of information and piecing each of them together, giving
modern researchers their basic knowledge about the human body. Without him, the information he

How Does Vesalius Change The Face Of Anatomy?
Andreas Vesalius is regarded as the father of modern human anatomy and the reason for this is
evident in his work in De Fabrica. Before Vesalius, the teachings of Galen were considered to be the
standard of medical knowledge in the Western and Arabic world. Dissections were typically
performed by a barber surgeon under the direction of a physician, who considered themselves to be
above manual labor, and human dissections were still viewed as a very taboo practice. Vesalius
changed the face of anatomy by challenging Galen's doctrine, performing human dissections before
an audience, and by being the one to actually do the "dirty work" of dissections himself. Vesalius
forged a relationship between the audience and the corpse, bridged the gap between the living and
the dead body, and with the help of the printing press made knowledge of the human body much
more accessible for all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allowed him to foster an open relationship between himself, his audience, and the corpse that
he was dissecting at the time. He was also able to establish a high level of credibility by following
this format of communicating his findings in real time and having the reasons for these conclusions
able to seen in the body sitting right before him. This relationship was not unique to just live
dissections, as it could also be felt in his book. His drawings are very detailed and the accompanying
bodies of text explain his conclusions in a thorough, but easily understood manner. A relationship

John Hunter Anatomists
Anatomy, the study of the human body, is a discipline of the medical sciences that flourished beyond
precedent during the 17th and 18th centuries in Western Europe. During this time, many physicians,
anatomists, and doctors began to not only investigate anatomy more seriously, but also to teach
anatomy to more people. Dissections of cadavers became more common at learning establishments
and more accepted by the general public, and by government authorities. Anatomical theatres were
constructed for the mass teaching of dissections, and any and all bodies from criminal hangings
were donated as cadavers to the universities. As trends grow and become popular problems are

influential anatomist of the two. John Hunter studied and dissected every animal he could,
comparing animal and human bodies. John Hunter is credited with the naming of several body
components including all of the teeth. On top of that, he discovered the embryonic development
similarities between species, as well as discovering the paths of nerves and blood vessels through
the skull. Through his work on the circulation of blood, he paved the pathway for what is known
today as vascular surgery. Another great anatomist, Alexander Monro, was appointed to teach

was able to show his intelligence to the world, through his significant discoveries of the human
body. He showed each of these traits in several ways. He showed dedication by disproving many
discoveries that were taught and believed for many years before him, though even with the difficulty
of convincing others that his discoveries were true, he published his findings. He showed persistence
by continuing to practice human dissection even with the strict laws against it and even managed to

intelligence in his book "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" in which he explains his discoveries through

The Renaissance was a period of renewed interest in the Classical World and new understandings.
The term Renaissance means the rebirth of the Classical world, which brought new ideas,
understandings and new ways of doing things, and a progression from the Medieval way of
thinking. The traditions of Ancient Greek and Rome had a dramatic impact on the way people
thought in the Renaissance. This was evident in the areas of art and architecture, Science and the

people and the world. With people enjoying life rather than treating it as a sufferance people started
to explore the Classical World, which had a significant influence on the way people thought about
the world and humans. Giannozzo Manetti says that "the world in indeed created by god, but
humankind has changed and improved it", which is saying that the world was created by god but
without us humans, it wouldn't be the same nor as pleasant (1396–1459). Source B says "people
began to think more about themselves and their place in the world" and that "they became less
interested in thinking about god and the church", which is implying that the new philosophy of
humanism was more about what people could achieve and the world around them rather than
religious beliefs and the church. Humanism was a new way of thinking that was influenced by the

Medicine has become so advanced in the previous centuries that it is a wonder how the medical
discoveries of today have been fueled by those made during the Renaissance. As the mindset of
those living in Europe during that time changed from religion to self–discovery, medical research
began to expand and grow to a more scientific approach. Though several were unable to read, they
became more aware of themselves and humanity compared to their earlier religious views on life,
causing them to take a closer look at the human anatomy. During the English Renaissance,
physicians began to advance the scientific study of medicine leading to the development of modern
medical practices, and making a more profound impact than previous eras.

The citizens of today are living well beyond their fifties, and some are even living past their
nineties. As more and more citizens began to discover different aspects of life, their approach to
medicine began to change as it neared the end of the Medieval Era.
Though the Church still controlled most hospitals, physicians began to research and experiment with
human anatomy. Before, dissections would be made using animals instead of humans. Soon their
practices were dispelled by a physician, Andreas Vesalius. "Vesalius conducted his own anatomical
dissections on human cadavers and found that Galen's teaching [...] did not always apply to humans"
(Shane 26). At the time, dissecting a human was against the word of God, to do so would be unholy.
The Church began to reconsider after Vesalius' findings but they still did not allow the dissection of
"God fearing bodies." Instead, they allowed for the use of criminal bodies once they were executed,
or even while they were still alive as a source of torture ("History of Medicine" 2011). Though some
may see the practice as inhumane, it opened up many windows for physicians, giving them a chance
to go against the Church but still being able to live with the word of God.
During the early modern period, hospitals in Europe's urban centers [...] came under the control of
nonreligious groups[...] At the same time, more positive ideas of keeping a person's good health and

The primary place for anatomy to be studied throughout Western Europe was in the anatomical
theatre. Constructed for the specific purpose of performing dissections, all around Europe these oval

that point in time, an anatomical dissection was not simply a learning and teaching opportunity.
These very public dissections were treated as a community celebrated social event, scheduled into

"Anatomy is: a branch of morphology that deals with the structure of organisms." (Merriam–

Literature Review
1. Leonardo da Vinci
 Leonardo de ser Piero de Vinci was an Italian polymath, painter, sculptor, architect, musician,
mathematician engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. He is
widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely
talented scientist in the world. Leonardo da Vinci contributed countless achievements. He
contributed the deduction of the hierarchical structure of the nervous system. With the brain as the
commander center. The deduction that it was the retina of the eye that was sensitive to the light, not
the lens as previously believed. He learned to dissect the fragile structures of the eye by inventing
new methods that involved sectioning the eye after it had been fixed by heating in egg whites.

dissection were published in the seminal work De humani corporis fabrica by Andreas Vesalius
where Galen's physiological theory was accommodated to these new observations. Galen believed in
the Aristotelian doctrine that, in Nature, form follows function. If we want to understand the
function of an organ, tissue or body part, we must first study its form. That's why Galen considered
anatomy to be so important. Galen did experiments such as severing a nerve and observing the
effects. He was the first to determined that arteries carries blood and not

Impact Of The Renaissance
How Did the Renaissance Change Man's View of the World?
The Renaissance era. Most of us know this time period as the one where painters just simply
painted, scientists made their horrible discoveries that we are forced to learn about in our science
classes, and authors wrote long plays that could put a room full of hyper kids to sleep. Many of us,
however, do not realize the impact this movement has on our lives in the present day. The
Renaissance started in early 1300, and lasted for the next 300 years. This era manifested humanism,
realism, and the idea that the church was not the center of life. The ideals that people had followed
for the last thousand years were being questioned, as some opened their eyes to the budding world
around them. So the question still remains; how did the Renaissance change the view that men had
on themselves and on the world? During the Renaissance period, man's view of man changed largely
due to alteration in the style of art, stronger and well developed literature, and advancements in the
sciences.
The first reason the Renaissance changed man's view of the world is that of the new art. In his book
"The Last Days of the Renaissance & The March to Modernity" written in 2006, Theodore Rabb
states "One begins to know the names of the artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects ... see
well–defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and three–dimensional figures; and one begins to
notice the emphasis on symbolic representation giving

Fabrica Vesalius: Changing How The Dissection Of The Human...
Vesalius Analysis In De Fabrica Vesalius attempts to change how the public perceives anatomy and
the dissection of the human body. Since dissections were always seen as gruesome Vesalius tries to
change that perception in three ways. He does this by using backgrounds, positioning and starting
superficial. Since a dissection can be difficult for spectators to watch, starting superficial is one way
of easing the spectator in. De Fabrica does not start the illustrations with the deep internal organs, as
was the common practice of the time. Instead the first illustrations involving the muscle and tendons
was draw more artistic then anatomical. The man has his face turned up, one foot back and is even
pointing. These are all things you wouldn't see in an anatomically correct illustration. It makes the
cadaver seem more like a man rather than a dead body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This can make the audience more at easy rather than just having a picture of a cadaver. Having the

thought that these aren't just illustrations of dissected corps. Vesalius positions his skeleton men with
a cane, bent over in thought and even in a position of grief. All of these would be well known and
common positions to the spectators. They are positions the spectators may have even taken at one

Leonardo Da Vinci And Leonardo Da Vinci
The Renaissance is celebrated for having been a period of remarkable advancement in the fields
pertaining to art, literature, and science. However, with such advancements rendered too, anatomical
innovation. Progress relating to European medical knowledge was principally attributed to a
renewed curiosity in the ancient concepts of the Greek and Roman civilizations. The Renaissance
too denoted a decline in Christianity in art, as society moved away from a strictly religious
reawakening present in the Middle Ages, towards that of a more humanistic concern. The
significance of this decline supplemented by the bolstered public support of both art and science
inspired an atmosphere, which was conducive to anatomical advancements. Specifically, ... Show

The Renaissance is significant as it denoted a shift in the cultural attitude of anatomical dissections.
Leading up to, and amidst this time, physicians were tasked with learning human anatomy through
the writing of Galan, an ancient Greek physician (129–216AD). The reason for such is that the
Church was against the dissection of anatomical dissections. Supplemented by the additional burden
of being reliant upon the weather as a means by which the bodies could be both preserved and
cooled, anatomists rarely dissected corpses, and those that were studied were that of executed
criminals.
Andreas Vesalius was also a prominent artist, and anatomist within the Renaissance, famous for his,
book: De Humani Corpis Fabrica (On the Fabric of the Human Body) (Laurenza 20). Vesalius's
work evoked considerable changes to anatomical study, as he argued for the ability of students to
explore the inner workings of the human body, rather than being reliant upon the words of their
predecessors (Laurenza 20; Leopold 1). Furthermore, Vesalius through his studies revealed, existent
faults in Galen's assertions, whilst proposing anatomical theories previously not discovered
(Leopold 1).
The Renaissance fostered the promotion of science through scientific innovation. Namely, the
advent of print by movable type enabled anatomical teachings to grow, as textbooks concerning the

Why Is Leonardo Da Vinci Considered A True Renaissance Man
He was a genius. Leonardo Da Vinci, who was born in Vinci on April 15, 1452, was so brilliant, he
stood out in a sea of other talented scholars. As a young man, he trained to become a world–
renowned painter. Constantly pursuing knowledge, his determination made him an excellent
scientist. Combining his strengths in arts and sciences naturally birthed in him a prolific inventor.
Leonardo was a true "Renaissance man."
Although he was an incredibly proficient at many things, Leonardo is most remembered for being a
famous painter. At fourteen years old, he traveled to Florence to apprentice under Verrocchio, who
was an elite artist, to study many mediums of art. Verrocchio quickly noticed his young apprentice's
talent. After thirteen years

Andreas Vesalius
I. Biography
Andreas Vesalius was born on Dec. 31, 1514, in Brussels, the son of Andries van Wesele and his
wife, Isabel Crabbe. Vesalius's paternal ancestors, who hailed from the German town of Wesel, came
to Brussels in the early 15th century and became prominent as physicians and pharmacists. His
father served as pharmacist to Margaret of Austria and later to Emperor Charles V. His great–
grandfather, Johannes Wesalia, was the head of the medical school at the University of Louvain,
where Vesalius started his medical studies in 1530. He matriculated as Andres van Wesel de
Bruxella.
In 1533 Vesalius transferred to the medical school of the University of Paris. One of his two teachers

He sought to locate the precise site for venesection in pleurisy within the framework of the classical
method. The real significance of the book attempt to support his arguments by the location and
continuity of the venous system from his observations rather than appeal to earlier published works.
With this novel approach to the problem of venesection, Vesalius posed the then striking hypothesis
that anatomical dissection might be used to test speculation.
The second edition of the Fabrica, in 1555, contained many improvements on the first, but in
retrospect it was also a disappointment. One wonders about the new course medicine might have
taken, had Vesalius dedicated himself completely to the cause of anatomical research. Some time
after the accession of Philip II to the imperial throne, Vesalius became again one of the imperial
physicians. Vesalius's absence from medical schools showed itself in his Examination of Gabriele
Fallopio's Anatomic Observations (1561), in which he had to avoid passing judgment on a number
of points in Fallopio's book because he had no way of verifying them.
It is a moot question whether Vesalius used a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1564 as a pretext to
leave Spain and the imperial court. Some claimed that he went to the Holy Land to study medicinal
plants on the plains of Jericho, a topic on which he is known to have discoursed on his way there.
Vesalius might have very well made the pilgrimage out of devotion, as did many

In the 16th century, Vesalius decided that he would state his opinion on Galen and his own research
in his book titled On the Fabric of the Human Body . However, his opinion was not quite what you
would expect from someone in and before that time period, his opinion was negative toward Galen's
thoughts and writings . Vesalius did a lot of his own research in order to produce this book and to
teach people what he thought about Galen's work and compared it to the experiments he had done .
This paper will look at Vesalius' comments on Galen, why he felt like he needed to get his opinion
out there and how his opinion changed the way everyone else thought.
Vesalius talks about Galen, and how all his followers never questioned Galen's work . He spoke of
how everyone believed Galen was right, even though they could physically see that Galen was
wrong in multiple instances . Galen had even stated that he may be wrong, and that people should go
out and look for themselves, do their own research and experimentation . Nonetheless, no one
listened to that part of Galen, they all focused on that fact that he knew everything and that they

Department Store Industry Analysis in Mexico Essay
Mexican Department Store Industry The department store industry in Mexico functions just like the
majority of department stores around the world. They target the middle to upper class people with
money to spend on popular brands, food and entertainment. While the department store chains in
many countries tend to focus on one line of products (e.g., clothing), the department stores in
Mexico have diversified products and services that helps to decrease direct competition, but it also
makes it more difficult to predict a competitor's next move. As the middle class population grows in
Mexico, the market becomes more attractive, but many possibly new entrants are kept out by the
high barriers of entry.

On the other hand, Sears Roebuck's failure in Mexico was not due a problem of scale. Sudden high
tariffs drove them to sell shares of their company to Grupo Carso. Now with the NAFTAAgreement
signed, large U.S. competitors could enter the market without as much of a threat from high tariffs.
Additionally, Philipe Calderon's effort to reduce corruption eases the barriers to entry. Although the
middle class is not extremely big, it is growing, which makes it a very desirable target market. If a
department store is to start in Mexico with scale and succeed then it is likely they will not have too
much force from competitors driving them out of the market.
Suppliers
Suppliers have a lot of power in the department store industry in Mexico. Department stores must
seek out popular brands in order to attract their target segment, which places the department stores
in a position of power. The department stores also will not order and sell in such quantities that the
designer labels and popular brands will feel compelled to submit to a department store's demands.
The big companies that department stores in Mexico are trying to attract also have to consider the
risk off their investments, whether it is from the possibility of loss in route to the department store or
diminishing profits during bad economic climates. This keeps popular brands from selecting small,
low–end department stores. In Mexico these brand labels, many of which are coming

based on the work of one man than is Anatomy on Vesalius" ("Andreas"). Andreas Vesalius spent the
majority of his life working steadfast towards improvements in anatomy and physiology ("An

world knew it using unthought–of methods and new discoveries. Andreas Vesalius was born in

Galenic teachings were created by Claudius Galenus who followed the rules of Roman religion
when making his discoveries, which lead to many errors in his teachings since Roman religion
would not allow the use of cadavers ("Andreas"). All that was known about anatomy and physiology
were the teachings of Galenus, which were incorrect ("Anatomy", Florkin). Before Galenus there
was even less knowledge on medicine. Medicine was based on, mostly, the teachings of Hipocrates
before Galenus which proved even less reliable but still laid a sturdy foundation for medicine
("Anatomy", Florkin). Although Vesalius found many inaccuracies in Galenus' work, his own work
contained many as well. Which, over time, were corrected as well. Before Vesalius research was
soley abstract based or based on observations of other mammals and cutting into cadavers was
prohibited (Florkin, "Turney"). Now, surgeries, which require cutting, save lives every day. Without
Vesalius the advancements in anatomy and physiology would be less progressed. Vesalius' efforts

more religiously orthodox and stiff–necked than his father and under his leadership Spain would
become the center of the Counter–Reformation. At about this same time the zealous Cardinal Gian
Pietro Caraffa initiated the Inquisition in Rome modeled on the Spanish precedent. Six years earlier
his baleful influence had been felt in Venice when Caraffa served as a papal agent and now he

There where accounts that had the same debit and credit amounts just a few days apart. At the end of
the last quarter in 2009, there were 22 sales recorded. At the end of the previous quarters there was
not a high amount of sales which leads one to think that the sales were booked at the end of the year
to make the company meet their goal. There was also a high number of invoices with no bill of
landing. With a high number of no bill of landings, false billing is presumed. With a bill of landing
of a lesser weigh than that which was invoiced, leads to the full order not being shipped, and over
charging of the customer or that special arrangements have been made with the customer to receive
a discount for early billing. There was also 5 times where invoices where invoiced before they were
shipped. This leds to the fact that sales where most likely

The Logo Of Bacardi

  • 1. The Logo Of Bacardi The logo for the Bacardi brand has been changed quite a few times. It has been recently rebranded and given a more vintage look inspired by the Bacardi hand–drawn bat designs from the early 1900s. The bat logo was chosen because from the beginning many of Bacardi's potential clients were illiterate, and the image of the bat helped them to remember the rum. It is also used because it stays true to the integrity of the original symbol. In Cuban and Spanish heritage bats represent good health, fortune, and family unity. This new/old look makes Bacardi look a little bit more sophisticated and also quirky. Far from the cartoon style that it once had, in the new logo, they got rid of the yellow/gold colour which makes it look cleaner, it's a smaller and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bacardi logotype is much more eye–catching when looked upon and the letter design leaves little space for flair. The accent on the 'I' reminds the consumer that it is a product from a Cuban and Spanish culture, it also looks more bold than the previous version and along with the particular angular quality with the two A's, this sets a reminder of their "Untamable" feature. Bacardi has changed to this more straight style of logo that resembles that of vodka logos which almost puts them directly opposite to the classical rum style. Usually, rum brands want their logos to create an exotic feel with persistent modernity. This Bacardi logo is what is going to make their rum stand out, it will be unique compared to the rest of the rum brands. Usually rum is associated with palm trees and pirates, this simple yet memorable logo will appeal to the crowd of consumers nowadays that accepts respectability and slick new professionalism. This way Bacardi demonstrates the understanding that they have developed in the way that they are targeting their audience and the way that they want to advertise their ... • 3. Women In The Factory By Ann Farnsworth-Alvear Over the course of the first half of the twentieth century, factory work, particularly in textiles, in the Colombian city of Medellin, shifted as being almost exclusively women's work to almost exclusively men's work. The book Dulcinea in the Factory traces this transition, putting it in context by going through the full history of factories in Medellin. From the establishment of factories, the early hiring practices, strikes and their effects on factory work, and the gradual transition of men becoming the primary workers. The author, Ann Farnsworth–Alvear, argues her thesis that the transition from a primarily female workforce to a primarily male workforce is due to changes in what was seen as proper or improper work for women as opposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The establishment of the El Control system eradicated the family environment once cultivated by factory owners. Results were now the overarching goal of the factories and human nuisance was attempted to be scheduled out. This reorganization of how factories operated meant that hiring across the board was reduced. Hiring that did occur was exclusively male, the cause of which is cited as new engineers who taught Medellin factory owners how to restructure their factories favored males. The truth was that "since the late 1930s, mill–owners had been steadily replacing female operatives with males." The new American engineers who preferred men "merely capped a process that had begun with the identification of la mujer obrera as being separate from la clase obrera [the working class]." It was now gender normative for males to work in textile factories and for women to be absent from them. The final firm transition to fully male factories was induced by Medellin factory owners importing gender norms, just as the establishment of women as textile factory workers in the early 1900s had ... • 5. Brief Description Of Manila, Philippines BODY I. Brief Description of Manila, Philippines. Manila is the capital of the Philippines and it is located in Luzon; which is the largest island in the archipelago. Due to its convenient location for a trade route, it is known as the Pearl of the Orient. Before Manila was rebuilt, the city suffered many episodes of destruction during World War II (WWII) where the Japanese invasion occurred. Even though Manila is believed to be one of Southeast Asia's best capital cities for its breathtaking views and culture, it has its flaws. Manila is filled with crime, corruption, overpopulation, and the daily inevitable and cumbersome traffic jams. Yet, this city is still the biggest, most developed and prosperous when compared to the other cities in the Philippines. II. The Importance of Preserving Historical Landmarks Historical landmarks are just as important as every other building that has ever existed. They all have a purpose; yet people still choose to demolish these structures. It shows a lack of respect towards the architectural monuments. Most believe that creating brand new buildings is cheaper and more beneficial rather than maintaining the ancient ones but it is the opposite. He had learned about the arteries and veins in the circulatory system and the valves within the veins. Harveys discovery dates back all the way to the thirteenth century when the respiratory system was described by Ibn al–Nafis. Harvey was well interested in the vascular system he decided to write a book containing his work called 'Exercitatio Anatomica de Motu Cordis et Sanguinis in Animalibus' ( Latin for "An Anatomical Exercise on the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Living Beings") or more commonly known as " De Motu Cordis" which was later published in 1628 in Frankfurt (Famous Scientists). For my childhood self, it was biology that fueled those innate feelings of fascination. Biology has always been a topic of interest to me, from when I was a little kid to this day, biology consistently amazed and continues to amaze me. Ever since I was a just a kid, I knew I wanted to go into the field of science. I looked up to science greats like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Charles Darwin, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Isaac Newton. These heroes of the scientific community have been my inspiration and my role–models for science. As a matter of fact, watching shows about his anatomical art, The Mechanics of Man and even his drawing of the heart, inspired me into the field of biology and anatomy. Later on, in seventh grade I took Latin and in this class we learned about the anatomist Andreas Vesalius. Vesalius furthered intrigued my interest in anatomy on the grounds of learning about his books on human anatomy called De Humani Corporis Fabrica. Learning about this book solidified my viewpoint onto the field of biology; that is is most certainly something I want to study and participate in for my life. That being said biology is something that I hold very dear into my life, and correspondingly I want to have an education that will accomplish my goals in biology. Cornell University and CALS is the stepping stone needed for me to take that journey. In light of that, Cornell University offers a diverse range of biological and courses involving life science. This would progress me as a student wishing to study biology, to fit the bill in my education needs. I plan on studying biology and one day being a physician and a cardiovascular surgeon. Introduction Health and medicine changed considerably during the Renaissance in some areas and in some areas it remained the same. Major changes were seen in the fields of anatomy and surgery, as seen in the published works of Vesalius, Leonardo Da Vinci and William Harvey. But there was not much improvement when it came to cures and treatments and also finding out the causes of diseases. • 21. How Does Vesalius Change The Face Of Anatomy? Andreas Vesalius is regarded as the father of modern human anatomy and the reason for this is evident in his work in De Fabrica. Before Vesalius, the teachings of Galen were considered to be the standard of medical knowledge in the Western and Arabic world. Dissections were typically performed by a barber surgeon under the direction of a physician, who considered themselves to be above manual labor, and human dissections were still viewed as a very taboo practice. Vesalius changed the face of anatomy by challenging Galen's doctrine, performing human dissections before an audience, and by being the one to actually do the "dirty work" of dissections himself. Vesalius forged a relationship between the audience and the corpse, bridged the gap between the living and the dead body, and with the help of the printing press made knowledge of the human body much more accessible for all. ... This relationship was not unique to just live dissections, as it could also be felt in his book. During this time, many physicians, anatomists, and doctors began to not only investigate anatomy more seriously, but also to teach anatomy to more people. Dissections of cadavers became more common at learning establishments and more accepted by the general public, and by government authorities. Anatomical theatres were constructed for the mass teaching of dissections, and any and all bodies from criminal hangings were donated as cadavers to the universities. John Hunter studied and dissected every animal he could, comparing animal and human bodies. John Hunter is credited with the naming of several body components including all of the teeth. On top of that, he discovered the embryonic development similarities between species, as well as discovering the paths of nerves and blood vessels through the skull. Through his work on the circulation of blood, he paved the pathway for what is known today as vascular surgery. As more and more citizens began to discover different aspects of life, their approach to medicine began to change as it neared the end of the Medieval Era. Though the Church still controlled most hospitals, physicians began to research and experiment with human anatomy. Before, dissections would be made using animals instead of humans. Soon their practices were dispelled by a physician, Andreas Vesalius. "Vesalius conducted his own anatomical dissections on human cadavers and found that Galen's teaching [...] did not always apply to humans" (Shane 26). At the time, dissecting a human was against the word of God, to do so would be unholy. The Church began to reconsider after Vesalius' findings but they still did not allow the dissection of "God fearing bodies." Instead, they allowed for the use of criminal bodies once they were executed, or even while they were still alive as a source of torture ("History of Medicine" 2011). Though some may see the practice as inhumane, it opened up many windows for physicians, giving them a chance to go against the Church but still being able to live with the word of God. • 45. Impact Of The Renaissance How Did the Renaissance Change Man's View of the World? The Renaissance era. Most of us know this time period as the one where painters just simply painted, scientists made their horrible discoveries that we are forced to learn about in our science classes, and authors wrote long plays that could put a room full of hyper kids to sleep. Many of us, however, do not realize the impact this movement has on our lives in the present day. The Renaissance started in early 1300, and lasted for the next 300 years. This era manifested humanism, realism, and the idea that the church was not the center of life. The ideals that people had followed for the last thousand years were being questioned, as some opened their eyes to the budding world around them. So the question still remains; how did the Renaissance change the view that men had on themselves and on the world? During the Renaissance period, man's view of man changed largely due to alteration in the style of art, stronger and well developed literature, and advancements in the sciences. The first reason the Renaissance changed man's view of the world is that of the new art. In his book "The Last Days of the Renaissance & The March to Modernity" written in 2006, Theodore Rabb states "One begins to know the names of the artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects ... see well–defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and three–dimensional figures; and one begins to notice the emphasis on symbolic representation giving ... The Renaissance too denoted a decline in Christianity in art, as society moved away from a strictly religious reawakening present in the Middle Ages, towards that of a more humanistic concern. Leading up to, and amidst this time, physicians were tasked with learning human anatomy through the writing of Galan, an ancient Greek physician (129–216AD). The reason for such is that the Church was against the dissection of anatomical dissections. Supplemented by the additional burden of being reliant upon the weather as a means by which the bodies could be both preserved and cooled, anatomists rarely dissected corpses, and those that were studied were that of executed criminals. Andreas Vesalius was also a prominent artist, and anatomist within the Renaissance, famous for his, book: De Humani Corpis Fabrica (On the Fabric of the Human Body) (Laurenza 20). Vesalius's work evoked considerable changes to anatomical study, as he argued for the ability of students to explore the inner workings of the human body, rather than being reliant upon the words of their predecessors (Laurenza 20; Leopold 1). Furthermore, Vesalius through his studies revealed, existent faults in Galen's assertions, whilst proposing anatomical theories previously not discovered (Leopold 1). Leonardo Da Vinci, who was born in Vinci on April 15, 1452, was so brilliant, he stood out in a sea of other talented scholars. As a young man, he trained to become a world– renowned painter. Constantly pursuing knowledge, his determination made him an excellent scientist. Combining his strengths in arts and sciences naturally birthed in him a prolific inventor. Leonardo was a true "Renaissance man." Although he was an incredibly proficient at many things, Leonardo is most remembered for being a famous painter. • 55. Andreas Vesalius Andreas Vesalius I. Biography Andreas Vesalius was born on Dec. 31, 1514, in Brussels, the son of Andries van Wesele and his wife, Isabel Crabbe. Vesalius's paternal ancestors, who hailed from the German town of Wesel, came to Brussels in the early 15th century and became prominent as physicians and pharmacists. His father served as pharmacist to Margaret of Austria and later to Emperor Charles V. His great– grandfather, Johannes Wesalia, was the head of the medical school at the University of Louvain, where Vesalius started his medical studies in 1530. He matriculated as Andres van Wesel de Bruxella. In 1533 Vesalius transferred to the medical school of the University of Paris. One of his two teachers of anatomy there was Johann ... The real significance of the book attempt to support his arguments by the location and continuity of the venous system from his observations rather than appeal to earlier published works. With this novel approach to the problem of venesection, Vesalius posed the then striking hypothesis that anatomical dissection might be used to test speculation. The second edition of the Fabrica, in 1555, contained many improvements on the first, but in retrospect it was also a disappointment. One wonders about the new course medicine might have taken, had Vesalius dedicated himself completely to the cause of anatomical research. Some time after the accession of Philip II to the imperial throne, Vesalius became again one of the imperial physicians. Vesalius's absence from medical schools showed itself in his Examination of Gabriele Fallopio's Anatomic Observations (1561), in which he had to avoid passing judgment on a number of points in Fallopio's book because he had no way of verifying them. It is a moot question whether Vesalius used a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1564 as a pretext to leave Spain and the imperial court. Some claimed that he went to the Holy Land to study medicinal plants on the plains of Jericho, a topic on which he is known to have discoursed on his way there. Vesalius might have very well made the pilgrimage out of devotion, as did many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. On The Fabric Of The Human Body Argumentative Essay In the 16th century, Vesalius decided that he would state his opinion on Galen and his own research in his book titled On the Fabric of the Human Body . However, his opinion was not quite what you would expect from someone in and before that time period, his opinion was negative toward Galen's thoughts and writings . Vesalius did a lot of his own research in order to produce this book and to teach people what he thought about Galen's work and compared it to the experiments he had done . This paper will look at Vesalius' comments on Galen, why he felt like he needed to get his opinion out there and how his opinion changed the way everyone else thought. Vesalius talks about Galen, and how all his followers never questioned Galen's work . He spoke of how everyone believed Galen was right, even though they could physically see that Galen was wrong in multiple instances . Galen had even stated that he may be wrong, and that people should go out and look for themselves, do their own research and experimentation . Nonetheless, no one listened to that part of Galen, they all focused on that fact that he knew everything and that they needed to look no further for more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci and Andreas Vesalius were devising the first anatomical drawings that built the base for anatomy and medicine. And while da Vinci was in Italy drawing his beliefs, Ambroise Paré was in France on the battlefield inventing new ways to stop arteries from bleeding, and new and improved approaches to amputation. And many others like Paracelsus, the radical of alchemy, and William Harvey, the father of the circulatory system, were gaining acclaim for their advanced and contemporary ideas of medicine. Department Store Industry Analysis in Mexico Essay Mexican Department Store Industry The department store industry in Mexico functions just like the majority of department stores around the world. They target the middle to upper class people with money to spend on popular brands, food and entertainment. While the department store chains in many countries tend to focus on one line of products (e.g., clothing), the department stores in Mexico have diversified products and services that helps to decrease direct competition, but it also makes it more difficult to predict a competitor's next move. As the middle class population grows in Mexico, the market becomes more attractive, but many possibly new entrants are kept out by the high barriers of entry. Porter's Five Forces Assessment ... Sudden high tariffs drove them to sell shares of their company to Grupo Carso. Now with the NAFTAAgreement signed, large U.S. competitors could enter the market without as much of a threat from high tariffs. Additionally, Philipe Calderon's effort to reduce corruption eases the barriers to entry. Although the middle class is not extremely big, it is growing, which makes it a very desirable target market. If a department store is to start in Mexico with scale and succeed then it is likely they will not have too much force from competitors driving them out of the market. Suppliers Suppliers have a lot of power in the department store industry in Mexico. Department stores must seek out popular brands in order to attract their target segment, which places the department stores in a position of power. The department stores also will not order and sell in such quantities that the designer labels and popular brands will feel compelled to submit to a department store's demands. The big companies that department stores in Mexico are trying to attract also have to consider the risk off their investments, whether it is from the possibility of loss in route to the department store or diminishing profits during bad economic climates. This keeps popular brands from selecting small, low–end department stores. In Mexico these brand labels, many of which are coming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, we present a solution to 63 the problem of designing simple, low–cost, reflective–type 64 quasi–optical filters by using a reflective–type metasurface 65 designed to act as a quasi–optical spatial and spectral filter. 66 The proposed filter uses a single–layer metasurface fabricated 67 on a thin, ground–plane–backed dielectric substrate. The device is designed to anomalously reflect an incident wave 69 (from a given, known direction) towards a desired direction 70 over a desired frequency band of operation. Outside of this 71 band, the device will act as a normal reflector, reflecting the 72 incident wave in the specular reflection direction thereby 73 missing the intended receiver. The net effect of this concept 74 is that in the intended path between a given transmitter and 75 receiver, the device will act as a spectral filter. Since the 76 device has only a single metallic layer, its fabrication process 77 is very simple and requires only a single lithography step. 78 Moreover, the bandwidth of this filter ... Andreas Vesalius: Anatomy And Physiology Andreas Vesalius Research Paper A quote from an article from the University of Michigan states, "few disciplines are more surely based on the work of one man than is Anatomy on Vesalius" ("Andreas"). Andreas Vesalius spent the majority of his life working steadfast towards improvements in anatomy and physiology ("An Anatomist", Florkin, "Vesalius"). Vesalius' work changed the face of anatomy and biology as the world knew it using unthought–of methods and new discoveries. Andreas Vesalius was born in nowadays Brussels, Belgium in December 1514 ("An Anatomist", Florkin, Mauritsbiesbrouck, "Vesalius"). Galenic teachings were created by Claudius Galenus who followed the rules of Roman religion when making his discoveries, which lead to many errors in his teachings since Roman religion would not allow the use of cadavers ("Andreas"). All that was known about anatomy and physiology were the teachings of Galenus, which were incorrect ("Anatomy", Florkin). Before Galenus there was even less knowledge on medicine. Medicine was based on, mostly, the teachings of Hipocrates before Galenus which proved even less reliable but still laid a sturdy foundation for medicine ("Anatomy", Florkin). Although Vesalius found many inaccuracies in Galenus' work, his own work contained many as well. Which, over time, were corrected as well. Before Vesalius research was soley abstract based or based on observations of other mammals and cutting into cadavers was prohibited (Florkin, "Turney"). Now, surgeries, which require cutting, save lives every day. Without Vesalius the advancements in anatomy and physiology would be less progressed. Vesalius' efforts have not gone ignored. Despite its proximity to the Vatican, Padua was part of the free Venetian state and was located some twenty–five miles south of the port city. Humanists believed that a person's worth should be judged by their breadth of knowledge and culture, by accomplishments and not by fortune or religion, and the University of Padua sought out the best teachers regardless of their personal beliefs. That same year Charles V united with England's Henry VIII and attacked France, but more pertinent to Vesalius' future were three other events which occurred at about this time. One was that Charles V appointed his sixteen year old son Philip as the regent of Spain, who a dozen years later when his father abdicated would assume most of his father's mantles. (Charles had some 79 titles and once complained that they were "more than one head can carry.") Philip was more religiously orthodox and stiff–necked than his father and under his leadership Spain would become the center of the Counter–Reformation. At about this same time the zealous Cardinal Gian Pietro Caraffa initiated the Inquisition in Rome modeled on the Spanish precedent. Six years earlier his baleful influence had been felt in Venice when Caraffa served as a papal agent and now he vowed "to suppress and uproot, permitting no trace [of heresy] to remain... even if my own father were a heretic, I would gather the wood to burn him." Books were prohibited from being published without approval of his Holy Office and liberalizing doctrines established by the Council of Trent were suspended.
