This is a short overview of the five types of fathers whose behavior can leave their children with false impression of God the Father. ➤ Children feel like an orphan
➤ Feel abandoned,
unnoticed
➤ Fear loss of love
➤ Don’t get close to others
➤ Have fears of rejection
➤ Overly self-reliant & have
trust issues
➤ Angry or depressed
➤ Overly serious, hard to play
➤ God is not there for them

5. PASSIVE FATHER
➤ Not at home when at home
➤ Lack of physical affection
➤ Lack of affirmation
➤ Kids see God as distant,
uncaring
➤ Kids think coping is the best
they can do. Less joy in life
➤ Kids unable to give affection
& attention to others
➤ God’s love is just words

6. PERFORMANCE DAD
➤ Following rules, success, &
achievement is key to love
➤ Devalued for failure
➤ Kids have to earn love
➤ -> Striving, driven children
➤ Hides weakness. Lies well
➤ Depressed: never good enough

they feel need to perform
➤ I have to earn God’s love and I
may fail to get it.

7. AUTHORITARIAN DAD
➤ Control > love, intimacy
➤ Legalist, truth focused
➤ Kids see God as harsh
➤ Kids look for someone else to
control/blame
➤ Intolerant of those who
disagree with them.
➤ God is not interested in
getting close to me.

8. ABUSIVE FATHER
➤ Physically, emotionally or sexually
abuses child through looks, words
or actions
➤ Kids strongly fear God. They feel:
➤ God is quick to punish
➤ God will hurt you if He gets
close
➤ Angry with God for not protecting
➤ Kids battle guilt, shame, feelings
of unworthiness
➤ Find it hard to get emotionally
close to God or others
➤ God cannot be trusted.
