DOMAIN NAMES AND IP ADDRESSES
A domain name is the website address such as google.com or Hotmail.com
A domain name uses words and letters rather than numbers
A domain name is something that is specific to a certain website
An IP address is an individual set of numbers which send you to a website. These numbers are usually separated by dots.
A domain name and an IP address are the same thing yet domain names are used more since they are easier to remember.
By typing in a domain name into the search bar, your computer will then change it into it’s IP address and direct you to your desired website.
DATA PACKETS AND PACKET SWITCHING
A data packet is used over a network as a form of digital communication.
Data packets are used when information has to be sent. It is broke down, transmitted and then reassembles once the data has been sent.
Packet switching is a mode of sending data in a message. Although, this message is broken down into smaller parts and sent individually.
The data is then put back together. Data packets and packet switching is very similar.
ROUTERS
A router is where all of the data is sent in a computer.
Data from a device is sent to the router in order to be in it’s desired place.
The router directs the data to where it is supposed to be.
The router organises the data so that the computer can function correctly.
