This study analyzed writing errors made by Thai EFL students in different text types (narrative, descriptive, comparison/contrast) due to interference from their first language (Thai). The researchers analyzed 120 paragraphs written by 40 English major students. They identified 16 categories of first language interference errors, including verb tense, word choice, sentence structure, articles, prepositions, and more. The types and frequency of errors varied across text types. Narratives showed the most frequent errors in verb tense, word choice, sentence structure, prepositions and modals. Descriptions and comparisons showed the most frequent errors in articles, sentence structure, word choice, singular/plural forms, and subject-verb agreement.
