The First Sexual Revolution During The Era Of The Roaring...
The first initial Sexual Revolution happened during the era of the Roaring Twenties. Women were becoming more promiscuous and they had
become more comfortable in their own skin. They would start to wear clothes that they felt appealing rather than clothes that others felt appealing.
During the Roaring Twenties sex became a topic that one could converse with ease rather than a topic that everyone would just not talk about, still
during this time families would not talk about sex with their children. This all changed with the second Sexual Revolution, mothers were able to
talk about it with their children. The ideology of sex has changed from the Baby Boomers to Generation Y because the Sexual Revolution made it
a less taboo topic to talk about. Many people have various different ideas of what sex actually means. For many sex it is something they won't do
do until they are married and they know they wanted to have decided on just one sexual partner, for others it is an act they have casually with
strangers they just met at a party a few hours ago. The ideology of sex is the general idea of what sex actually is, which is how people's perspective
of sex has changed from one generation to the next. An example of this is that the Baby Boomer's parents were very conservative with the idea of sex
generally waiting until marriage; but in reality some would still have sex before marriage and would often have a gun shot wedding. Since the parent's
of the Baby Boomers were living in

Pursuing Sex In Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress
Kelcie Horner
Professor D'Angelo
English 102
December 3, 2017 Pursuing Sex
The speaker in "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell is a shady man that is trying to persuade a virgin to have sex with him. The man is using
the uncertainty of death throughout the poem to seduce the woman, which leads to the assumption that it is more about sex, than love. Although he
does admire her beauty, the question to be asked is whether he is in love with her or if he is in it for his own selfishness. "If time is the super–villain of
Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress," then having sex is the super–power he needs to gain control over his enemy. But, sex isn't so easy to come
by. Possibly because only a very special someone would understand the speaker's ideas about it. With wit and daring, the speaker discusses sex in
frank, beautiful, and disturbing language." (Shmoop Editorial Team). The man seductively uses the essence of time to try to persuade the woman to
have sex with him, before they both die, or before she figures out what his true intentions are.
The man preys into the fear and uncertainty of death by stating "then worms shall try that long preserved virginity, and your quaint honour turn to dust"
(Marvell 27–29). "This disgusting image is intended to encourage his lover to give her virginity to the speaker rather than foolishly saving herself for
the "worms" when buried. He also makes a pun of her "quaint honour", which could be seen as a reference to her naГЇve preservation of her virginity
even though death ("turn to dust") is inevitable. It is also a reference to her body – "quaint" was a euphemism for vagina around the late 16th century"
(BBC). He is trying to get her to let go of her honor, implying she will lose her virginity eventually, whether it is with him or the worms in her grave.
Trying his best to get what he truly wants, he starts using her honor against her, telling her that worms will turn her honor to dust and if she would
just have sex with him it would be preserved. The man insinuates that he will admire and love her for ages, but if that is true, why is he so persistent
for it to happen right now?
Starting off the poem he tells the woman how long he is willing to wait for her, but there is

The Effects Of Pre Marital Sex On The United States
Before someone decides to commit to a lifelong marriage to their significant other, it makes you wonder if the couple has actually taken the time to let
their relationship fully flourish and develop. Have they taken the time to learn the other person's biggest aspirations, their pet peeves, and their desires?
With the recent increasing acceptance of pre–marital sex in the United States, the following study takes an in depth look on the importance of
assessing sexual compatibility early on in the relationship, thus allowing other important aspects of the relationship to grow. Although there are still
couples who wait for a deep level of commitment before engaging in the sexual part of their relationship, it is far more common for those two people
to discover their sexual compatibility before they have made long–term plans for the future of their relationship. This study collects data from 2035
married individuals by observing how soon they started the sexual aspect of their relationship and how this timing is related to their existing
communication sexual and overall relationship quality and satisfaction. Structural equation as well as group comparison analyses confirmed that sexual
restraint was linked to better relationship results. Keywords: Sexual timing, sexual timing trajectories, psychometric properties. "What research method
was used in the study you selected? Sometimes referred to as "methodology" or "methods" in the journals. Examples include survey

Factors that Affect Teen Sex Behavior
An alarming rate of pregnancy among teenagers has become an issue in our society. In fact, the whole scenario is so intense that there are at least 2 to
3 cases happening each day. As there is no smoke without fire, for each and every occurrence, there is definitely a cause as to why it happens. Without
any second thought, teen sex behavior is the main cause of this problem. No matter in the first–world or third–world countries, teen sex behavior has
becoming common issue everywhere. Among some of the factors that cause teen sex behavior that plague the world today are family stability,
media and religion. As we all know, family plays a significant role in teens' life as it will cause a great impact on their emotions and characters
when they are still in the growing and learning stage. However nowadays, teens get neglected or feel unloved and uncared most of the times as their
parents are caught up in the rat race or family problems such as divorcee. According to an article published by the Heritage Foundation, Children
whose parents have divorced are increasingly the victims of abuse and neglect. They exhibit more health problems, as well as behavioral and
emotional problems (The Effects of Divorce on America). On the other hand, according to a research done by the ministry of education of Singapore,
slightly more than 80 per cent of parents think that it was important to broach the sexual topic, but less than 50 per cent had actually done so (Many

The Sexual Revolution And The Contraceptive Pill
The Sexual Revolution has been one of the most defining movements in recent world history. It is the only event other than a world war that has
irrevocably shaped our global public consciousness. When we here the term, The Sexual Revolution, we unconsciously begin to associate it with
several late 20th century cultural movements and philosophies. The most famous of these are its influences through music, and the contraceptive pill.
On May 9th, 1960, the United States Food and Drug Admiration approved the world 's first commercially produced birth–control pill, and from then
on, the world would never be the same. The pill was heralded as ushering in a new age of "greater reproductive freedom to American women" and it
was credited with starting the cultural paradigm shift commonly called Sexual Revolution (History.com Staff). However, the contraceptive pill itself
did not have the power to change a culture, it was only an instrument to facilitate a culture in changing itself. It had no power; it only gave people a
way to have greater sexual liberties without consequences. So what made the culture want to change? What truly caused the Sexual Revolution? By
looking deeper into its root philosophies and causes, the Sexual Revolution can be viewed as a product of Darwinist human 'unexceptionalism'. To
understand the revolution's underlying cause, you have to understand what The Sexual Revolution was, and perhaps more importantly, what it still
represents today. The Sexual

The Flea
John Donne was a contemporary of Shakespeare. His writing career occurred during the Renaissance. Poems about seduction were common
during this era. The Flea by John Donne was a poem about a man urging his love interest into a sexual union with him by way of reason. In this
time, premarital sex was considered a great sin and could get someone in a lot of trouble. The flea in this poem was used as a symbol of love and
romance. A flea was one of the things that would least likely be used to describe a plot, between a man and a woman, about premarital sex. He
appealed to her sense of reason rather than seducing her because she was fearful about giving herself to him. The narrator never talked directly about
sex, instead he used imagery and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flea sucked blood from both of them so he represented three lives; the narrator's, his love interest, and its own. He convinced her that even
though their blood was mingled inside the flea no one could ever call it "a sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead." He later expressed his jealousy of
the flea tasting her without having to woo her. He believed he should be entitled to the same privilege.
The narrator stated, "oh stay, three lives in one flea spare." In this statement, the narrator was asking his love interest to spare the life of the flea
because it represented the both of them and their union. In a way, he tried to make her feel guilty by telling her that she would be killing the three
lives that the flea represents. He started his next line saying that they were almost married but ironically ended it saying that they were more than
married. He expressed that the flea represented the two of them as well as their marriage bed and marriage temple. Even though her parents did not
approve of their union and she did not have sex with him he told her that they were cloistered in the walls of the flea. Later, he admitted that she was
apt to kill him and asked her to not commit a crime by killing the part of herself that was inside of the flea. To kill the flea would be unholy so he
said, "three sins in killing three." If she were to kill the flea she would be committing murder, suicide, and sacrilege. She would me committing murder

An Archaic Interpretation Of The Bible
The word fornication comes from the Greek word porneia. In the Bible, porneia is roughly translated to sexual immortality which was later
interpreted to include adultery, anal sex, oral sex, homosexual sex, sexual possessions, etcetera, by the Christians. Today in the Catholic church, sex
is strictly seen as a necessary act needed to procreate the catholic church. They equate the rising interest in sex as a rise of devil's activity in the
world. This is the result of an archaic interpretation of the bible and especially Paul's work in the new testament. The church condemns sex because it
demotes us to animals, and as chosen people of Christ, they adhere to archaic laws to be pure, instead of following a natural way of life.
In the text to the Corinthians, Paul is angered by the sexual immorality practiced in the Christian community. The word porneia is interpreted
differently over the years, and one can trace its beginning back to the Hellenistic period, "The usual translations–"fornication" and "sexual
immortality"–reflect the breadth and flexibility of the term's meaning. But they obscure its actual content and connotations" (Harper 383). Around the
first century, a majority of the world was Hellenized. With the prominence of Greek culture, it affected the way of life in the Hellenized areas. The
Greeks explored all types of sexual activities, which was strictly prohibited by Jewish customs. Everyone except for the Jews in the Hellenized world
act on their sexual desires.

Helminiak provides an interesting discussion based on a reoccurring topic of interest, integration of sexuality and spirituality. Helminiak begins the
paper establishing that the greatest undertaking was trying to define spirituality. He then proposed that sexuality would either foster or hinder one's
spiritual growth to the extent that if would affect the person's sexual behaviors. Helminiak suggested that someone's sexual behavior would essentially
fall in accord with their chosen religious belief and ethical requirement as a means to enhance their relationship with God. The paper begins with the

cross–level interactions suggest that individual religiosity has a greater negative effect on approval of premarital sex in countries that are more

June Khan Is Not Obliged Analysis
In "Sofia Khan is not Obliged" the main character is a decent case of such a woman who rehearses the Islamic ceremonies not for only a reassurance
or to keep up the religious clothing regulation; rather she does it to satisfy her God and also to her self–soul. Her conviction supplies her the strength
to battle against all impediments and to be stronger in decision making. Several times she recalls the citation from the holy Quran. This study decided
to apply the concept of haya' on the basis of the leading character 'Sofia'. In that case, an analysis on Sofea's speeches and actions is highly needed for
the sake of the progress of this study.

The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints Essay
Individuals who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints are taught gender is an essential characteristic of an individual
premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. (The Family Proclamation to the World) American society teaches through media, that males are
to be aggressive, and females are to be submissive. Society teaches individuals to stuff males and females into confining and suppressive boxes, where
males are meant to be domineering and females are sexual objects and marriage is disposable. It's such a stark contrast the difference between how
those of the faithful LDS families are raised when compared to those who have been integrated into the beliefs of society. Children who are raised to
view society as the correct way, are taken into a highly stereotypical, and deceptive world.
American society views the acceptable man as being controlling and domineering, whereas the acceptable and desirable woman's purpose is to cater to
the man, physically and sexually. Females are nearly always stripped down (often literally) to what lies at their core, their essential, biological
womanliness, their essential subordinate position to man." (Byerly, Carolyn, Ross 26) When women are portrayed in such a way, individuals begin to
be dissatisfied with themselves, as well as with the ones they are intimate with, comparing them to the impossible standards of society. While
attempting to appease the opposite sex, then they aren't being true to their

Race, Gender And Premarital Sex
This research examines the relationship between race, gender and premarital sex; furthermore it looks at the factors that cause individuals to
participate in premarital sex. Guttmacher Institute reported that over 95% of the American public has engaged sexual intercourse before getting
married, and even most Americans born before the 1940's engaged in this practice as well (Regnerus and Uecker 2001). Even though it is not
something new, it is now being considered less taboo. Trends in premarital sex have continually been shifting; we as a nation seem to be opening
ourselves up to the idea of sex before marriage, and passing it off as normal (Martin, Martin, Martin 2001). Even though many people might have
engaged in premarital sex, their thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These findings show that race and gender have an impact on how one views premarital sex. One limitation to this research was that there was no
question in the GSS that had asked how many people actually had premarital sex; it would have been interesting to comparing what people thoughts
about the issue, to their very actions on the issue.
Premarital sex has been practiced even before the 1940's, so it is not a new topic, but then again it is. Even though many people were engaging in
this act, their thoughts and actions did not always match up. At the fear of not being socially correct, people would often consider premarital sex in
a negative manner. However, as we can see, trends have been shifting over the years in how people view sex before marriage; it is much more
acceptable to talk about and people no longer have feel obligated to hide their

Different Aspects Of Love In Poetry
Different Aspects of Love in Poetry
The metaphysical poems of pre 1914 explored the whole experience of humans, which included love, politics, and how society was e.g. in this era
premarital relations were forbidden by the church, romance and mans lust towards women. The poets used romance to represent other deeper issues
in a symbolic way, like in "To His Coy Mistress" or "The Flea" where the poets use syllogistic arguments, which are usually used in politics, and in
these poems show what society then was like. A lot of metaphysical poems usually contained accounts of how a woman has lost her virginity before
marriage which at that time was considered a taboo subject as the women would have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"And in this flea, our two bloods mingled be"
Donne uses this to try and persuade the woman that they have already had sex as the flea has both of their bloods inside it. It was an Elizabethan
saying about sex which shows his obvious intentions of trying to get her to sleep with him. He is saying as they have already has sex with the flea
they might as well do it now. Throughout "The Flea" the man uses allsorts of persuasions like saying her virginity means nothing or that she would not
lose anything if she did sleep with him. He lies to her throughout saying their relationship is past marriage. He clearly shows no love for the women. It
is written as a light hearted argument. It shows no love just a mans lust towards a woman.
In "Upon Julia's Clothes" the man who is in it talks about how beautiful Julia is. He talks about her as if he possess' her and he talks about how much
he likes her body:
"That liquefaction of her clothes!"
He is saying that he can see her body through her clothes which shows that he is obsessed with her body and that she dominates his thoughts. He
doesn't mention any other of her qualities just her sex appeal in this poem which shows he sees her as sex. This poem shows the lust of a man towards
a woman.
In "The Sick Rose" there are warnings about the consequences of lust. This poem is the opposite of the flea where the man is telling the

The Use Of Marriage In John Donne's The Flea
"The Flea", by John Donne, is a poem about a man trying to persuade a woman to have premarital intercourse with him. One literary device that is
prevalent among almost all pieces of poetry is the use of symbols. The flea symbolizes not only intercourse throughout this poem, but also the idea of
marriage. Through analysis it can be thought that the flea could represent marriage because it bit both the man and woman the two have become one
already, "Where we almost, nay more than married are /This flea is you and I, and this /Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is" (Lines 11–13). It is
also possible that Donne is arguing that because God created all things he must have created the flea; therefore, the flea is essentially doing what God
intended and fornication is God's will. If this is what is believed then the two of them should not feel any remorse or shame and the woman would not
lose her maidenhood if they engage in sex. "The Flea" encompases ideas that deal with desires that come from within and what drives those desires
between man and woman.
Throughout the poem, Donne emphasizes a man's desire and how he is going to go about achieving that strong internal desire, but fails to touch on the
other half: what exactly the woman wants. During the poem we realize that the woman does not actually want to have intercourse with the man. This
can be seen when she tries to kill the flea for the first time but is stopped by the man. "Though use make you apt to kill me, /Let not

...TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD (AND THE PEOPLE I LOVE)
Christians talk a lot about premarital sex. And I think that's a mistake. I don't think it's a mistake because the issue is unimportant but because the
grammar is skewed. The word "fornication" is almost gone from contemporary Christian speech. It sounds creepy and antiquated. Instead, we talk about
"abstinence" and "premarital sex." In the most recent issue of Touchstone magazine, I argue that the loss of the words "fornicate" and "fornication"
implicitly cedes the moral imagination to the sexual revolutionaries because the words "fornication" and "premarital sex" aren't interchangeable.
Fornication isn't merely "premarital." Premarital is the language of timing, and with it we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conscience to evade repentance. After all, if the problem is one merely of "timing" or of "waiting" then the problem is resolved once one is married.
The event was in the past. This makes fornication even more dangerous, in this sense, than adultery. Both fornication and adultery are acts of infidelity.
But a man who has committed adultery, if he is repentant, understands something of how he's broken trust, attacked a covenant. He can see that even
when his wife has forgiven him, he must invest years in rebuilding trust. He can understand why his wife concludes that if he'll cheat with one woman,
why would he not cheat with another? He must work to show himself faithful. The fornicator can be deceived into thinking that marriage has solved the
problem. He doesn't see the ongoing nature of the problem. Often he finds it difficult to lead his wife spiritually, or to fully gain

Pre-Marital Sex
I. Supports premarital sex
A. Engaged Couple
The most prominent argument for premarital sex among Christians is the marital argument, which says, "We are in love and plan to marry soon.
Why should we wait?" (Williams: 2010). If both participants are willing, care deeply for each other, and use protection, premarital sex is fine. This
experience will bring two people closer together. (Zeolla: 2011) Others practice premarital sex because they are engaged and will be marrying each
other soon. They will learn what sleeping with someone is like, what to do and they will be gaining more experiences. They will not have to worry
about having experience because they have done it before. And this is even better if they will marry the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is stated in 1 Thessalonians 4:3–4 – "It is God 's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should
learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable" (NIV). (Mahonev: 2011)
Sex is a good thing. It is created by God to be a beautiful and enjoyable expression of love, but only between a married couple, husband and wife. It is a
gift to be used in marriage, not just for the call of the lust. God wants everyone to control the passions, wait and remain sexually pure until marriage,
because all sexual activity outside marriage is a sin against Him.
III. Conclusion and Solution
We don't support premarital sex because we agree on the arguments of against it. God doesn't allow premarital sex. As a Christian, we believe that
a couple must be married first before having any sexual activity. Sex is a gift from God to a married man and woman only and it's not just an act
between a girlfriend and boyfriend or fiancГ© and fiancГ©e. We are not allowed to do it just because we want to. It is a sacred act for married
couples. We need to save sex for our marriage, just like the bible said. Premarital sex also causes damages physically and emotionally.
Because of this conclusion, we have come up with a solution of having sex education, read the bible and go to church regularly. Sharing God's word
can help them understand that premarital sex is a sin and shouldn't be done. Sex education can also

The Storm Essay
Marriage is a tradition that was passed down through human history for over five thousand years now. The traditional marriage involves a man and a
woman who love and support each other, although in today society it might not be the case. Generally, in traditional marriage, the woman and the man
will hold loyalty towards one another because they have a relationship that was established upon trust and bond. Adultery and premarital sex were not
existed in that age. However, what we see on the news everyday was a totally different story. The question becomes what leads women to commit
adultery and what did they get out of it. In "The Storm" by Chopin, the marriage between Bobinot and Calixta was both successful and unsuccessful.

The release of repression on their feelings was immense that they were not able to control themselves as they wanted each other for sex in the

of her passion, without a guile or trickery." (Chopin 101). Her passion has overcome her rationality. Undoubtedly, she was genuine and honest in
her passion for her husband and son but this passion ends with the departure of her husband and son. By sleeping with Alcee, Calixta feel fulfilled
and satisfied "Calixta watched Alcee ride away... as she lifted her pretty chin in the air and laughed aloud." (Chopin 102). She was not ashamed of
what she did; in fact she was happy that she has fulfilled her wish that has been lasted for many years. In "No Name Women" by Hong Kingston, it

the man that she met in town. "To sustain her being in love, she often worked at herself in the mirror, guessing at the colors and shapes that would

Premarital Sex and Religion Essay
Premarital Sex and Religion
The Catholic Church teaches that premarital sex is wrong, yet it is still widely practiced around the world. The reason marriage was created was to
join two people of the opposite sex together in a holy sacrament that would make the couple one. God's reason for marriage is quoted in the bible when
he said, "For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." The Sacrament
of marriage is one of the most sacred Sacraments in the Catholic Religion. By performing premarital sex, the couple is breaking a covenant with God
and is performing a sin. Marriage is the joining of a couple in the eyes of God and in the eyes of the State. When ... Show more content on

Premarital sex goes against God's law so our relationship with God is destroyed. Penance can heal our relationship with God, but the emotional
ties that go along with premarital sex can hurt a person for life. Many couples that have premarital sex often do not stay together in marriage.
Many people have strong emotional hardships that they go through after having premarital sex. Premarital sex doesn't just lead to sin; it leads to a
separation of God and your family and friends. Sex is the sacred sigh of the covenant with God, when a couple has sex they are sealing the
covenant with God. Breaking this sign of the covenant is one of the most harmful sins that we as a people can expose ourselves to. In order for us
to enter into heaven God says "But among you there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity...because these are
improper for God's holy people.1" Breaking the sign of the covenant with God is breaking God's law and going against everything God wants for
us. God doesn't ask much from us considering all that he has given us, he asks us only to follow his laws, in Jesus said, "If you love me, you will
obey what I command.1" Premarital sex goes against God's command and ruins our relationship with him.
Since the time of Christ, Christians have thought premarital sex to be a sin. Ancient Christians use to believe that "marriage was a second rate choice
but if one lacked self control, he had to take

they needed to have law enforcement with religious obligations, and most importantly the sexual temptations. Knowing that human could never fully

Since all of these cases over time the Puritan have change and added to laws to help prevent sexual crimes. A very common one was the arrangement of
marriage. This made it easier for the men and women to get married younger, to ensure they would keep their vow of virginity. As it says in the
book, " As marriage was the way to prevent fornication, successful marriage was the way to prevent adultery". After helping to prevent fornication,
they also put in other laws to help prevent adultery. One was if the husband or wife leaves the home or leave puritan county lines for an amount of
time, they would be immediately sent back to their families and punished. Also for husband who came to the New World alone and left their
families in England would be set back if they were on Puritan grounds. All of these charges would be punished by paying a certain amount of pounds
and receiving a certain about or stripes(whippings) depending on the case. Another issue that occurred during this time was the friendship of two
members of the opposite sex who weren't married or had other significant others. The real issue wasn't necessarily the friendship, but more of two
different sexes being alone together. For example November of 1630, the court prohibited Mr. Clark from keeping Mrs. Freeman company or he would

The Effects Of Premarital Sex On Children And Young Adults
Innocence Lost When God created man and woman, his sole purpose was for them to be fruitful and multiply. Sex was created by God and meant for
marriage. Therefore, woman valued their chastity and would not do a disservice to their bodies. Premarital sex should not be practice because it leads
to unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and loss of innocence. In 1275, England established the age of consent to be 12 to prevent
older men from ravishing the young maidens to ensure their chastity remained undamaged until marriage ("Age of Consent")." Although the age of
consent law is confusing" the most important matter is to keep our children and young adults safe ("Age of Consent") The sexual terrain of the

The rate of illegitimate births in the United States has risen sharply since the early 1970s. In the 1940s fewer than five percent of the total births were

–Christians are to look at sex and sexuality different from the world
–V3 deals with two areas, sexuality in action and in thought o Sexual Immorality: 'pornea' fornication and adultery are in thought here
Matthew 15:19 Jesus says, "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander."
There both adultery and fornication are mentioned, with sexual immorality focusing on fornication

Sex that says I want you physically, not completely o One author put it this way, "Sex outside of marriage, according to Keller, is a way of
receiving fulfillment and pleasure but not actually a giving of oneself. Sex is addictive and like all addictions, the more that you do it the less
payoff there will be. Sex then becomes less powerful and therefore less pleasurable. However, sex within marriage becomes sweeter and more
powerful because it is more about giving than receiving in this context. Even as married couples get older (and may not look as good as they did when

Sex, Lies, And Hook Up Cultures
Everyone knows that hook–ups are in and what to expect for sex, right? I get the impression that everyone puts up this front that makes him or her
seem smart about sex and hook–ups, but realistically they are faking it till they make it. As I read through this article, "Sex, Lies, and Hook–up
Cultures" by Donna Freitas, I realized there are so many rumors about sex and hook–ups that the younger generation doesn't honestly know the truth
about sex. Donna Freitas, a professor, took the time surveying college students about religion and sex at their college. She discovered how most
students lie about sex and many of them are trailing into the ways of casual sex. Freitas realized how many students are pressured into hooking–up
with others and what the culture of hooking–up means to other students. Shockingly, she found how more students were willing to have sex with
someone then to ask him or her out on a date. Catholics, especially were shown to have no knowledge about what having sex means in their religion
along avoiding it in their faith. Freitas also talked about how more students are accepting of having sex with their partner than to actually have a full
conversation about sex with them. A key point I found interesting in this article is how one would describe the meaning of "hooking–up". Through
Freitas' studies, she came to the conclusion "that a hook–up is an sexually intimate activity" (13). She also noted how this could mean a simple kiss or

Pre–Marital Sex: Is It Worth The Wait? Pre–marital sex, young Catholics know it is wrong. So why do they do it? Most teenagers have heard or coined
the phrases “everyone’s doing it.” “If you loved me you’d do it” and also “It’s okay I
have a condom.” Sex before marriage can be harmful to your body, your future, but the scariest of all your eternity. In this paper we shall look
more into the Catholic point of view on pre–marital bliss. The purpose of sex is to unite a married couple as one loving body in consummating a

Persuasive Essay On Emerging Adulthood
Despite some young adults are privileged and may not have to worry as much about issues of the real world. Several of other young adults are
growing up slowly and are not completing milestones that were common at their age in past generations. Emerging adulthood is beneficial to young
adults and should be more supported by others because having emerging adulthood would give young adults more time to have identity exploration, it
helps give young adults more self–focus, and it helps to understand what the real world really is and the issues that come. Initially, emerging adulthood
is helpful because young adults have more time to find their identity. In the article, the Arnett talks about the importance of identity exploration: "a few
of these, especially identity exploration, are part of adolescence too, but they take on new depth and urgency in the 20s" (Henig, 200). Arnett is
implying that the stage of emerging adulthood plays a major part in finding who the person is. Coming into adulthood a person can feel rushed into
adulthood and not fully grasp who they are and what they want or like to do with their life. This feeling is felt even as a teenager. Having the extra
time to explore who they are can only benefit the person and ease the transition into adulthood. Arnett emphasizes the urgency on how beneficial
finding a person's true self. " The stakes are higher when people are approaching the age when options tend to close off and lifelong commitments must

The Golden Age of America, the period post WWII, was taken out behind the proverbial house and beaten by the coming of the Counter Culture
Revolution of the 1960s. Everything that the "greatest generation," built and quite literally defended was thrown to the wind by the next generation
without a second thought. They were able to free themselves from the shackles of society so easily for various reasons, including: affluence, leisure
time, easy access to literature, and higher education. These topics have been touched upon far too much for me to mention them in my paper, and I

Government spending on the war grew huge industries that dried up the unemployment rate very quickly. The climax of this economic boom
ironically came with the explosion of the last bomb. The virtually unscathed American industrial infrastructure rose above the rubble of European
factories and Asian offices, and the United States was more than happy to invest heavily in the foreign markets allowing for Hulk like growth in an
already thriving national economy. That generation, after a great struggle, became members of a superpower and were responsible for a brand new
America. Post WWII Americans owned America, they had made her their own with progressive reforms to both government and economy. Social
changes, however, were hard to come by and the younger generation began to feel oppressed by society's harsh limitations. So, in fact the Counter
Culture Revolution of the 1960's was started by a teenage hissyfit against their parents. The first blow came to the institution of family. With higher
education and a broader choice of a career thanks to new industry the family unit became irrelevant. Children had loose roots and easily forgot where
they came from. Family crests were replaced by job titles and their identity became their own. In The Graduate Ben returns from college to a
ceremonious welcome. Ben has done it, he has made his parents proud and graduated with honors, but he feels empty. Up

Religious And Personal Beliefs Of The United States
Adhering to your religious and personal beliefs in a society where there have been generational shifts in attitudes toward nonmarital sex is
challenging. These changes in sexual attitudes and behaviors are connected to growing cultural individualism in the United States. When a culture
places more importance on the desires of the self and less on social rules, more relaxed attitudes toward sexuality are the almost inevitable result. You
are faced with the decision of conforming to a society where the acceptance of premarital sex is at an all time high. Yet, your religion and personal
beliefs have shaped your moral compass, which makes it evident that you do not wish to stray away from your decision of abstaining from sex until
marriage. In efforts to assist you in effectively communicating your desires to your girlfriend we will evaluate your relationship through key
communication concepts such as: culture, Social Exchange Theory, Social Penetration Theory, listening, and Self–Discrepancy Theory. . Making the
decision of remaining abstinent until marriage takes a lot of courage. Committing to this decision, however, is just as difficult. It becomes especially
challenging when the individuals in our lives do not understand or support our life choices. As you said yourself, "we are in 2016 and are well past
the sexual revolution years." Going to school in Santa Barbara certainly doesn't make things easier as Isla Vista is known for its infamous "hook–up"

Getting Ready For Marriage By Jim Burns And Doug Fields
Marriage is a bond made between two people that is hoped to last a lifetime; however, in recent times this bond is becoming broken due to the
increase number of divorce. An important way to not become a statistic of divorce is to receive counseling or to read a self–help book like, "Getting
Ready for Marriage" written by Jim Burns and Doug Fields. These resources allow married couples to develop the vital skills needed to push
through the trials and tribulations that can occur during marriage. The completion of reading "Getting Ready for Marriage" will decrease the
likelihood of a marriage ending by divorce dramatically. Before getting married it is important to plan one's life after the ceremony as mentioned in
the book. In correspondence Burns and Doug explains planning as dissecting one's relationship during the courtship or engagement phase. It's
important to evaluate the relationship in order to find red flags before it is time to make a commitment. Red flags are things that someone should put
into consideration before marriage to help figure out if they are marrying the right person for them. Some examples of red flags is addiction, abuse,
unfaithfulness, etc. One important way to find a red flag is by talking to someone who mutually knows the relationship and asking their opinion about
the relationship. Hopefully, their opinion will not be biased due to their situation if it appears to be ask another person. Next, is to look at oneself as a

John Donne The Flea
The FleaThe Flea is a seductive poem which is written by John Donne during 1600s. In this poem, Donne presents flea to his lover as a symbol of
their metaphysical relationship. The poem contains 3 stanzas of nine lines each. The rhyme scheme of the poem is AABBCCDDD which is three
couplets and tercet. Each of these stanzas discuss three separate arguments from the speaker to his mistress. Donne uses images, metaphor and
persuasive method to convince his lover to have premarital sex. He tries hard to pull her thoughts in his way of thinking. The speaker is developing
argument to fulfill his desire for premarital sex thats why he uses flea as an analogy for their metaphysical relationship. In the first stanza, the author
is trying to build up a connection between he and his lover by using the flea as a metaphor for sex. The author is trying to convince his lover to get
physically engaged with him. The author justifies it by saying that the flea has already sucked their blood and it is mingled within the walls of the flea
and so why couldn't they? From the beginning of the poem, the author tries to catch our attention towards the flea by saying that "Mark but this

them and their blood mingles within the walls of flea. The woman denies this because she is afraid of losing his virginity and the time the poem was
written, sex is considered as a sinful crime if it done before marriage. The flea, at last is killed by his lover and the person is unsuccessful in bending his

The Nature Of Sexual Desires
Kant argues that there is a clear distinction between sexual desires also known as ones appetite and romantic desires. With man having a sixth
sense called appetite, these impulses are pleasing the appetite of someone else (Kant, Heath & Schneewind, 1997). The utilization of another person
in order to gratify mans sexual desires through the use of another person, is similar to that person being an instrument for man's service. The
individual is being thrown away once the appetite has been fed. After man has achieved the sexual desires, the relationship is over and thrown away
which can be compared a lemon as it is thrown away after the juices have been sucked out of them (Kant, et al., 1997). If man loves someone for
purely sexual gratification this is not true love, rather it is a form of appetite. Kant would view this as man being equivalent to animals as a person is
allowing the use of profit, which can also be labeled as indiscriminate lust (Kant, et al., 1997). Human beings have the ability to reason practically and
the ability to decide on the actions to take. Animals act on their instincts, and when humans do this they are not creating a committed connection, rather
satisfying on their sexual impulses (Kant, et al., 1997). Contradictory to man's sexual impulses, people with no such sexual impulses or
non–heterosexual desires are considered to be imperfect, not acceptable and therefore immoral. Individuals outside of marriage cannot morally engage
in sexual desires in

Women 's Portrayal Of Women Essay
In Early modern literature, there are many pieces of literature that are written by men who talk about women in ways that objectify and try to
control them because back then women were not given much agency in society. The women that are being portrayed in this type of literature
about unrequited love are seen as extremely flat characters who are just the objects of affections for the narrator. This is problematic as it just
portrays women as someone for the narrator of the poem to pin over although women are so much more than that. However, there are some
authors trying to empower women and acknowledge the issues within their patriarchal society which are still prevalent to this day. These issues
still apply today because there is still blatant sexism when positions of power are still dominated by men. There are some feminist writers on our
syllabus even though a lot of them could not care less about how they represent women because they are only suppose to be an accessory to the
story. They are always trying to describe what their perfect woman is like but she does not exist in real life. It causes unrealistic standards for women.
For example, John Donne's poem "The Flea" is empowering as he is questioning society's views about sex before marriage. Donne is giving his beloved
more agency throughout the story by criticizing the unreasonable expectations put on by institutions that govern society, like the church. An author in

Islam, A Religion That Changed Society And Struggling With...
Islam, a religion that dates back to over 1600 years ago, is considered to be one of the fastest growing religions in the world. It is one of the few
Abrahamic religions alongside Judaism and Christianity. Abrahamic religions have similar foundations, and conservative teachings in regards to
sexuality. For instance, premarital sex is prohibited. Chastity and purity are highly valued in the Muslim community. I will be discussing my
experiences, perspectives, and beliefs as being a Muslim woman in today's society and struggling with my perception of sexuality. Being born into a
Muslim household, I was taught not to question religion and authority. Whenever I had asked a question about religion that my family (immediate and
extended) were not able to answer, the response was "Don't question God's wisdom, we don't always know why". Unanswered questions and the
inability to question authority are insufficient for me. In regards to sexuality,Islam has strict guidelines of what is expected, permitted, and condemned.
For example anal sex, pre–marital sex, extramarital sex, and incest are clearly prohibited. I have come to understand that Islam does not accept many of
the LGBT populations. In Islamic jurisdiction, homosexuality is deemed unnatural and condemned in Islam, as it supposedly destroys the family unit.
Similarly, changing one's sex is prohibited because it is thought that God created everyone the way they are, and changing his creation is unlawful.

Should Sex Education Be Legal?
Sex: the elephant in the room no one likes to talk about. It is a natural act humans have done for years but also a taboo to show or acknowledge.
Sex, despite being taboo, is omnipresent. It is present in discussions of God, television, dating, and other areas, all of which have played a role into
my understanding of sex and sexuality. However, public education has ultimately been the main factor in maintaining my personal safe sex life. Many
parents debate whether sex education should remain in school and be exposed to their children, despite the fact sex is already pervades in other
aspects of life such as religion, gender roles, media, and relationships. Sex education should remain a part of public school curriculum because it
educates teenagers about its consequences and how to do it safely.
Religion
I have never truly believed in any form of entity that controls the universe, what happens to me and others, or destiny. Growing up in a Catholic
household, I questioned God's existence a lot for allowing many tragic events to transpire, and one of the reasons I do not wish to believe in religion
is because it condemns sex and different sexualities. Growing up watching television and later learning more about sex, I realized having sex does not
make you a bad person. In a sense, my lack of religion makes me a lot more open to the idea of sex. While my household is not homophobic,
Catholicism and Christianity in general frown upon homosexuality. Consistently, people will

Premarital Sex And Its Effects
In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born prior to 1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the
gender disparity may have been caused by cultural double standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and
especially after World War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent among women. By the end of the 20th century,
between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex before the age of 19. During the colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but
privately condoned to an extent. Even though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a child outside of wedlock was not. If a pregnancy
resulted from premarital sex, the young couple were expected to marry. Beginning in the 1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the stigma
attached to it lessened for many people. Love began to become enough for a reason to practice sex, instead of marriage or engagement in the eyes of
many. The percentage of ever–married men and women who had premarital sex (20–44 years old) between 2006 and 2010 is 90.6% men and 86%
women (www.cdc.gov). A new study of 38.000 Americans has found that 95% had premarital sex (www.truthdig.com). Another statistic says that 3% of

Premarital sex is not a sin against God? The Bible does not forbid premarital sex. There is no passage of the Bible that references premarital sex as a
sin against God. The association between sin and premarital sex is a new Christian idea. The only possible reference to premarital sex being a sin in
the Bible is in the New Testament. This premise although, is generally dismissed by theologians because the Greek word pornei, or sexual immorality
is commonly incorrectly translated into the English word fornication. In Biblical times women were the owned property of a man. Men ruled over
women and their children. Women had very few, if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this was that in biblical times adultery was defined as a situation in which there was the danger of a married woman being
impregnated by another man. This is also why sex with a prostitute is/was not adultery, even if the man is married. In the Hebrew understanding of
the Adultery Commandment of Moses, Adultery, as understood by what Moses said, was only wrong for married women, never a married man.
Even Solomon, a great prophet of the figure of the Bible who was said to be favored by God had seven hundred princesses and three hundred
concubines. The Bible shows that polygamy, rape, incest, and orgies are not only accepted, but was often rewarded, by God and was common practice
of "great men of the Bible," none of whom wherever spoken out against in the Bible. Christ 's teachings at the Sermon on the Mount were that the only
law is the law of love. He showed this by reversing four of the Old Testament laws which conflicted with loving people. Therefore, anything that was
unkind, not by mutual consent, etc. would be immoral for a Christian, but obviously not loving sexuality regardless of marital status or natural sexual
orientation. The New Testament says nothing about premarital sex. Some versions though do mistranslate the Greek word pornei, which means sexual
immorality, into the English word fornication, which means sexual intercourse with someone who one is not married to. Pornei, meaning sexual
immorality, included such

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Single Parenting...
"A single parent could feel like a mouse racing on a wheel, where she/he is continually running, trying to maintain a proper household and raise healthy
children." This is a statement from Victoria Thompson. I do believe in this statement because for me single parents, unlike the married couple, are
having a hard time in dividing their time with their work and taking good care of their kids. So, single parenting faces more disadvantages like the
experience of economic hardship, negative judgment of the community and the psychological effects on rearing children that make the family and
relation cycle really complicated.

First, their children may suffer bullying because of having only one parent. This can affect the children's way of living. Kids who are bullied can
experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues. The child will not be able to do what he wants because he will be afraid to socialize
with other children. Second, a child with a single parent can compare their selves to the other children who have married parents. A child may feel
envious about not having a father/mother to guide him/her. According to Paul R. Amato, "Children living with single parents are exposed to more
stressful experiences and circumstances than being children living with continuously married parents." This statement proves that single parents are
having a hard time raising their children. Lastly, the children living with a single parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings. Children who

No Sex Before Marriage?
Society has plugged information into young people's mind for generations. This programmed, presumptive information has made youthful people,
especially teenagers, and young adults think and act like robots. Buried deep in many teenagers thoughts ensued by their parents and society are the
words, "No sex before marriage!". Different people, have countless different reasons that they believe one should not have sex before marriage.
Society, in lots of different places look poorly on those who engage sexually before being married. I've witnessed it happen more then once locally in
my area, and its always ends with such a negative outcome. Even in schools kids are taught that sex is bad thing, and told not to engage in any sort of
sexual activity. Rather then being taught about the importance of safe sex society is programing kids to just not have sex at all, especially in America.
"Americans love to tout the value of waiting until marriage to have sex. We teach abstinence–only education in schools across the country, and even
comprehensive sex–ed programs often point out that "abstinence is best."" (Jill Filipovic). People get married, most of the time, because the love
each other but marriage is only a document. And when you love someone, you don't need a contract to prove it. And you shouldn't need a stamp of
approval saying when and when you're not allowed to be intimate with someone you love. Having sex before marriage should not be looked so poorly

The Flea By John Donne
"The Flea", by John Donne is a raunchy romantic poem that explains the speakers unyielding love that is represented by an insect. Using the insect to
seduce his beloved after they both get bitten by the insect. As the speaker seduces his beloved, he involves her beliefs and values, intending to get his
way with her no matter what it takes. But she doesn't give in to his manipulation.
As you read more deeply into the poem, we can also see the larger and symbolic meanings of this poem. For example the flea, sex, marriage, and
religion. The flea is the main focus on of this poem, It's size is considered small but it is large on the inside because it symbolizes their "marriage".
Since both of their bloods have been mingled, making the speaker seem desperate for her and continues to find a way to convince her. The audience
will also get a sense the speaker's character throughout the poem, he is confident, clever, charming, considerate, frustrated, and whiny.
Sex is the main focus for the speaker. In line seven, Donne writes, " Yet this enjoys before it woo", the flea is actually enjoying sucking her blood
because that's what flea's do. All the speaker wants is to enjoy himself with her as much as the flea does when he sucks her blood. The speaker is
very unreliable when it comes to love because that's not what he's looking for. If he was then he wouldn't try to involve his beloved in premarital sex.

in a way that goes against what he or she claims to believe or feel. Before I got married in 1999, I had a lust problem. I was a fornicator. I was going to
church every week; but I was bound by the spirit of fornication and lust. I wore a holy mask in church, but outside of church, I was everything but

The First Sexual Revolution During The Era Of The Roaring...

  • 1. The First Sexual Revolution During The Era Of The Roaring... The first initial Sexual Revolution happened during the era of the Roaring Twenties. Women were becoming more promiscuous and they had become more comfortable in their own skin. They would start to wear clothes that they felt appealing rather than clothes that others felt appealing. During the Roaring Twenties sex became a topic that one could converse with ease rather than a topic that everyone would just not talk about, still during this time families would not talk about sex with their children. This all changed with the second Sexual Revolution, mothers were able to talk about it with their children. The ideology of sex has changed from the Baby Boomers to Generation Y because the Sexual Revolution made it a less taboo topic to talk about. Many people have various different ideas of what sex actually means. For many sex it is something they won't do do until they are married and they know they wanted to have decided on just one sexual partner, for others it is an act they have casually with strangers they just met at a party a few hours ago. The ideology of sex is the general idea of what sex actually is, which is how people's perspective of sex has changed from one generation to the next. An example of this is that the Baby Boomer's parents were very conservative with the idea of sex generally waiting until marriage; but in reality some would still have sex before marriage and would often have a gun shot wedding. Since the parent's of the Baby Boomers were living in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Pursuing Sex In Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress Kelcie Horner Professor D'Angelo English 102 December 3, 2017 Pursuing Sex The speaker in "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell is a shady man that is trying to persuade a virgin to have sex with him. The man is using the uncertainty of death throughout the poem to seduce the woman, which leads to the assumption that it is more about sex, than love. Although he does admire her beauty, the question to be asked is whether he is in love with her or if he is in it for his own selfishness. "If time is the super–villain of Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress," then having sex is the super–power he needs to gain control over his enemy. But, sex isn't so easy to come by. Possibly because only a very special someone would understand the speaker's ideas about it. With wit and daring, the speaker discusses sex in frank, beautiful, and disturbing language." (Shmoop Editorial Team). The man seductively uses the essence of time to try to persuade the woman to have sex with him, before they both die, or before she figures out what his true intentions are. The man preys into the fear and uncertainty of death by stating "then worms shall try that long preserved virginity, and your quaint honour turn to dust" (Marvell 27–29). "This disgusting image is intended to encourage his lover to give her virginity to the speaker rather than foolishly saving herself for the "worms" when buried. He also makes a pun of her "quaint honour", which could be seen as a reference to her naГЇve preservation of her virginity even though death ("turn to dust") is inevitable. It is also a reference to her body – "quaint" was a euphemism for vagina around the late 16th century" (BBC). He is trying to get her to let go of her honor, implying she will lose her virginity eventually, whether it is with him or the worms in her grave. Trying his best to get what he truly wants, he starts using her honor against her, telling her that worms will turn her honor to dust and if she would just have sex with him it would be preserved. The man insinuates that he will admire and love her for ages, but if that is true, why is he so persistent for it to happen right now? Starting off the poem he tells the woman how long he is willing to wait for her, but there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Pre Marital Sex On The United States Before someone decides to commit to a lifelong marriage to their significant other, it makes you wonder if the couple has actually taken the time to let their relationship fully flourish and develop. Have they taken the time to learn the other person's biggest aspirations, their pet peeves, and their desires? With the recent increasing acceptance of pre–marital sex in the United States, the following study takes an in depth look on the importance of assessing sexual compatibility early on in the relationship, thus allowing other important aspects of the relationship to grow. Although there are still couples who wait for a deep level of commitment before engaging in the sexual part of their relationship, it is far more common for those two people to discover their sexual compatibility before they have made long–term plans for the future of their relationship. This study collects data from 2035 married individuals by observing how soon they started the sexual aspect of their relationship and how this timing is related to their existing communication sexual and overall relationship quality and satisfaction. Structural equation as well as group comparison analyses confirmed that sexual restraint was linked to better relationship results. Keywords: Sexual timing, sexual timing trajectories, psychometric properties. "What research method was used in the study you selected? Sometimes referred to as "methodology" or "methods" in the journals. Examples include survey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Factors that Affect Teen Sex Behavior An alarming rate of pregnancy among teenagers has become an issue in our society. In fact, the whole scenario is so intense that there are at least 2 to 3 cases happening each day. As there is no smoke without fire, for each and every occurrence, there is definitely a cause as to why it happens. Without any second thought, teen sex behavior is the main cause of this problem. No matter in the first–world or third–world countries, teen sex behavior has becoming common issue everywhere. Among some of the factors that cause teen sex behavior that plague the world today are family stability, media and religion. As we all know, family plays a significant role in teens' life as it will cause a great impact on their emotions and characters when they are still in the growing and learning stage. However nowadays, teens get neglected or feel unloved and uncared most of the times as their parents are caught up in the rat race or family problems such as divorcee. According to an article published by the Heritage Foundation, Children whose parents have divorced are increasingly the victims of abuse and neglect. They exhibit more health problems, as well as behavioral and emotional problems (The Effects of Divorce on America). On the other hand, according to a research done by the ministry of education of Singapore, slightly more than 80 per cent of parents think that it was important to broach the sexual topic, but less than 50 per cent had actually done so (Many parents shy to talk ... • 5. The Sexual Revolution And The Contraceptive Pill The Sexual Revolution has been one of the most defining movements in recent world history. It is the only event other than a world war that has irrevocably shaped our global public consciousness. When we here the term, The Sexual Revolution, we unconsciously begin to associate it with several late 20th century cultural movements and philosophies. The most famous of these are its influences through music, and the contraceptive pill. On May 9th, 1960, the United States Food and Drug Admiration approved the world 's first commercially produced birth–control pill, and from then on, the world would never be the same. The pill was heralded as ushering in a new age of "greater reproductive freedom to American women" and it was credited with starting the cultural paradigm shift commonly called Sexual Revolution (History.com Staff). However, the contraceptive pill itself did not have the power to change a culture, it was only an instrument to facilitate a culture in changing itself. It had no power; it only gave people a way to have greater sexual liberties without consequences. So what made the culture want to change? What truly caused the Sexual Revolution? By looking deeper into its root philosophies and causes, the Sexual Revolution can be viewed as a product of Darwinist human 'unexceptionalism'. To understand the revolution's underlying cause, you have to understand what The Sexual Revolution was, and perhaps more importantly, what it still represents today. The Sexual ... • 6. The Flea John Donne was a contemporary of Shakespeare. His writing career occurred during the Renaissance. Poems about seduction were common during this era. The Flea by John Donne was a poem about a man urging his love interest into a sexual union with him by way of reason. In this time, premarital sex was considered a great sin and could get someone in a lot of trouble. The flea in this poem was used as a symbol of love and romance. A flea was one of the things that would least likely be used to describe a plot, between a man and a woman, about premarital sex. He appealed to her sense of reason rather than seducing her because she was fearful about giving herself to him. The narrator never talked directly about sex, instead he used imagery and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flea sucked blood from both of them so he represented three lives; the narrator's, his love interest, and its own. He convinced her that even though their blood was mingled inside the flea no one could ever call it "a sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead." He later expressed his jealousy of the flea tasting her without having to woo her. He believed he should be entitled to the same privilege. The narrator stated, "oh stay, three lives in one flea spare." In this statement, the narrator was asking his love interest to spare the life of the flea because it represented the both of them and their union. In a way, he tried to make her feel guilty by telling her that she would be killing the three lives that the flea represents. He started his next line saying that they were almost married but ironically ended it saying that they were more than married. He expressed that the flea represented the two of them as well as their marriage bed and marriage temple. Even though her parents did not approve of their union and she did not have sex with him he told her that they were cloistered in the walls of the flea. Later, he admitted that she was apt to kill him and asked her to not commit a crime by killing the part of herself that was inside of the flea. To kill the flea would be unholy so he said, "three sins in killing three." If she were to kill the flea she would be committing murder, suicide, and sacrilege. She would me committing murder and ... • 7. An Archaic Interpretation Of The Bible The word fornication comes from the Greek word porneia. In the Bible, porneia is roughly translated to sexual immortality which was later interpreted to include adultery, anal sex, oral sex, homosexual sex, sexual possessions, etcetera, by the Christians. Today in the Catholic church, sex is strictly seen as a necessary act needed to procreate the catholic church. They equate the rising interest in sex as a rise of devil's activity in the world. This is the result of an archaic interpretation of the bible and especially Paul's work in the new testament. The church condemns sex because it demotes us to animals, and as chosen people of Christ, they adhere to archaic laws to be pure, instead of following a natural way of life. In the text to the Corinthians, Paul is angered by the sexual immorality practiced in the Christian community. The word porneia is interpreted differently over the years, and one can trace its beginning back to the Hellenistic period, "The usual translations–"fornication" and "sexual immortality"–reflect the breadth and flexibility of the term's meaning. But they obscure its actual content and connotations" (Harper 383). Around the first century, a majority of the world was Hellenized. With the prominence of Greek culture, it affected the way of life in the Hellenized areas. The Greeks explored all types of sexual activities, which was strictly prohibited by Jewish customs. Everyone except for the Jews in the Hellenized world act on their sexual desires. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Annotated Bibliography On Helminiak Annotated Bibliography Helminiak, D. A. (1998). Sexuality and spirituality: A humanist account. Pastoral Psychology,47(2), 119 –126. Helminiak provides an interesting discussion based on a reoccurring topic of interest, integration of sexuality and spirituality. Helminiak begins the paper establishing that the greatest undertaking was trying to define spirituality. He then proposed that sexuality would either foster or hinder one's spiritual growth to the extent that if would affect the person's sexual behaviors. Helminiak suggested that someone's sexual behavior would essentially fall in accord with their chosen religious belief and ethical requirement as a means to enhance their relationship with God. The paper begins with the author providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It then investigates whether the effects of individual level religiosity on approval of premarital sex are contingent on the economic characteristics of a nation, reflected by a country's gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. Multilevel analyses of data from the sixth wave of the World Values Survey (2010–2014) reveal that both individual religiosity and GDP per capita are important predictors of attitudes toward premarital sex. Furthermore, cross–level interactions suggest that individual religiosity has a greater negative effect on approval of premarital sex in countries that are more economically ... • 9. June Khan Is Not Obliged Analysis In "Sofia Khan is not Obliged" the main character is a decent case of such a woman who rehearses the Islamic ceremonies not for only a reassurance or to keep up the religious clothing regulation; rather she does it to satisfy her God and also to her self–soul. Her conviction supplies her the strength to battle against all impediments and to be stronger in decision making. Several times she recalls the citation from the holy Quran. This study decided to apply the concept of haya' on the basis of the leading character 'Sofia'. In that case, an analysis on Sofea's speeches and actions is highly needed for the sake of the progress of this study. 1)Haya towards the invisible presence of the Almighty: Duting the entire text "Sofia Khan is not Obliged", the readers can see enough ups and downs in Sofia's life. Sofia's haya' toward the invisible presence of Allah and the angels protects her to do sex before marriage while it is a common young and mixed culture happening all over the world. Premarital sex was viewed as an ethical issue which was forbidden in many societies and considered a sin by various religions, yet since about the 1960s, it has turned out to be all the more broadly acknowledged, particularly in Western nations (WIKI). • 10. The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints Essay Individuals who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints are taught gender is an essential characteristic of an individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. (The Family Proclamation to the World) American society teaches through media, that males are to be aggressive, and females are to be submissive. Society teaches individuals to stuff males and females into confining and suppressive boxes, where males are meant to be domineering and females are sexual objects and marriage is disposable. It's such a stark contrast the difference between how those of the faithful LDS families are raised when compared to those who have been integrated into the beliefs of society. Children who are raised to view society as the correct way, are taken into a highly stereotypical, and deceptive world. American society views the acceptable man as being controlling and domineering, whereas the acceptable and desirable woman's purpose is to cater to the man, physically and sexually. Females are nearly always stripped down (often literally) to what lies at their core, their essential, biological womanliness, their essential subordinate position to man." (Byerly, Carolyn, Ross 26) When women are portrayed in such a way, individuals begin to be dissatisfied with themselves, as well as with the ones they are intimate with, comparing them to the impossible standards of society. While attempting to appease the opposite sex, then they aren't being true to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Race, Gender And Premarital Sex This research examines the relationship between race, gender and premarital sex; furthermore it looks at the factors that cause individuals to participate in premarital sex. Guttmacher Institute reported that over 95% of the American public has engaged sexual intercourse before getting married, and even most Americans born before the 1940's engaged in this practice as well (Regnerus and Uecker 2001). Even though it is not something new, it is now being considered less taboo. Trends in premarital sex have continually been shifting; we as a nation seem to be opening ourselves up to the idea of sex before marriage, and passing it off as normal (Martin, Martin, Martin 2001). Even though many people might have engaged in premarital sex, their thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These findings show that race and gender have an impact on how one views premarital sex. One limitation to this research was that there was no question in the GSS that had asked how many people actually had premarital sex; it would have been interesting to comparing what people thoughts about the issue, to their very actions on the issue. Premarital sex has been practiced even before the 1940's, so it is not a new topic, but then again it is. Even though many people were engaging in this act, their thoughts and actions did not always match up. At the fear of not being socially correct, people would often consider premarital sex in a negative manner. However, as we can see, trends have been shifting over the years in how people view sex before marriage; it is much more acceptable to talk about and people no longer have feel obligated to hide their ... The poets used romance to represent other deeper issues in a symbolic way, like in "To His Coy Mistress" or "The Flea" where the poets use syllogistic arguments, which are usually used in politics, and in these poems show what society then was like. A lot of metaphysical poems usually contained accounts of how a woman has lost her virginity before marriage which at that time was considered a taboo subject as the women would have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "And in this flea, our two bloods mingled be" Donne uses this to try and persuade the woman that they have already had sex as the flea has both of their bloods inside it. It was an Elizabethan saying about sex which shows his obvious intentions of trying to get her to sleep with him. He is saying as they have already has sex with the flea they might as well do it now. Throughout "The Flea" the man uses allsorts of persuasions like saying her virginity means nothing or that she would not lose anything if she did sleep with him. He lies to her throughout saying their relationship is past marriage. He clearly shows no love for the women. It is written as a light hearted argument. It shows no love just a mans lust towards a woman. In "Upon Julia's Clothes" the man who is in it talks about how beautiful Julia is. He talks about her as if he possess' her and he talks about how much he likes her body: "That liquefaction of her clothes!" He is saying that he can see her body through her clothes which shows that he is obsessed with her body and that she dominates his thoughts. He doesn't mention any other of her qualities just her sex appeal in this poem which shows he sees her as sex. This poem shows the lust of a man towards a woman. In "The Sick Rose" there are warnings about the consequences of lust. This poem is the opposite of the flea where the man is telling the

  • 14. The Use Of Marriage In John Donne's The Flea "The Flea", by John Donne, is a poem about a man trying to persuade a woman to have premarital intercourse with him. One literary device that is prevalent among almost all pieces of poetry is the use of symbols. The flea symbolizes not only intercourse throughout this poem, but also the idea of marriage. Through analysis it can be thought that the flea could represent marriage because it bit both the man and woman the two have become one already, "Where we almost, nay more than married are /This flea is you and I, and this /Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is" (Lines 11–13). It is also possible that Donne is arguing that because God created all things he must have created the flea; therefore, the flea is essentially doing what God intended and fornication is God's will. If this is what is believed then the two of them should not feel any remorse or shame and the woman would not lose her maidenhood if they engage in sex. "The Flea" encompases ideas that deal with desires that come from within and what drives those desires between man and woman. Throughout the poem, Donne emphasizes a man's desire and how he is going to go about achieving that strong internal desire, but fails to touch on the other half: what exactly the woman wants. During the poem we realize that the woman does not actually want to have intercourse with the man. This can be seen when she tries to kill the flea for the first time but is stopped by the man. "Though use make you apt to kill me, /Let not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. r e a d ...TO THE PEOPLE OF GOD (AND THE PEOPLE I LOVE) Christians talk a lot about premarital sex. And I think that's a mistake. I don't think it's a mistake because the issue is unimportant but because the grammar is skewed. The word "fornication" is almost gone from contemporary Christian speech. It sounds creepy and antiquated. Instead, we talk about "abstinence" and "premarital sex." In the most recent issue of Touchstone magazine, I argue that the loss of the words "fornicate" and "fornication" implicitly cedes the moral imagination to the sexual revolutionaries because the words "fornication" and "premarital sex" aren't interchangeable. Fornication isn't merely "premarital." Premarital is the language of timing, and with it we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (English Standard Version) The language of "premarital sex" can enable a conscience to evade repentance. He can see that even when his wife has forgiven him, he must invest years in rebuilding trust. He can understand why his wife concludes that if he'll cheat with one woman, why would he not cheat with another? He must work to show himself faithful. The fornicator can be deceived into thinking that marriage has solved the problem. He doesn't see the ongoing nature of the problem. Engaged Couple The most prominent argument for premarital sex among Christians is the marital argument, which says, "We are in love and plan to marry soon. Why should we wait?" (Williams: 2010). If both participants are willing, care deeply for each other, and use protection, premarital sex is fine. This experience will bring two people closer together. (Zeolla: 2011) Others practice premarital sex because they are engaged and will be marrying each other soon. (Mahonev: 2011) Sex is a good thing. It is created by God to be a beautiful and enjoyable expression of love, but only between a married couple, husband and wife. It is a gift to be used in marriage, not just for the call of the lust. God wants everyone to control the passions, wait and remain sexually pure until marriage, because all sexual activity outside marriage is a sin against Him. III. Conclusion and Solution We don't support premarital sex because we agree on the arguments of against it. God doesn't allow premarital sex. As a Christian, we believe that a couple must be married first before having any sexual activity. Sex is a gift from God to a married man and woman only and it's not just an act between a girlfriend and boyfriend or fiancГ© and fiancГ©e. We are not allowed to do it just because we want to. It is a sacred act for married couples. We need to save sex for our marriage, just like the bible said. Premarital sex also causes damages physically and emotionally. Because of this conclusion, we have come up with a solution of having sex education, read the bible and go to church regularly. As I read through this article, "Sex, Lies, and Hook–up Cultures" by Donna Freitas, I realized there are so many rumors about sex and hook–ups that the younger generation doesn't honestly know the truth about sex. Donna Freitas, a professor, took the time surveying college students about religion and sex at their college. She discovered how most students lie about sex and many of them are trailing into the ways of casual sex. Freitas realized how many students are pressured into hooking–up with others and what the culture of hooking–up means to other students. Shockingly, she found how more students were willing to have sex with someone then to ask him or her out on a date. Catholics, especially were shown to have no knowledge about what having sex means in their religion along avoiding it in their faith. Freitas also talked about how more students are accepting of having sex with their partner than to actually have a full conversation about sex with them. A key point I found interesting in this article is how one would describe the meaning of "hooking–up". • 31. The Nature Of Sexual Desires Kant argues that there is a clear distinction between sexual desires also known as ones appetite and romantic desires. With man having a sixth sense called appetite, these impulses are pleasing the appetite of someone else (Kant, Heath & Schneewind, 1997). The utilization of another person in order to gratify mans sexual desires through the use of another person, is similar to that person being an instrument for man's service. The individual is being thrown away once the appetite has been fed. After man has achieved the sexual desires, the relationship is over and thrown away which can be compared a lemon as it is thrown away after the juices have been sucked out of them (Kant, et al., 1997). If man loves someone for purely sexual gratification this is not true love, rather it is a form of appetite. Kant would view this as man being equivalent to animals as a person is allowing the use of profit, which can also be labeled as indiscriminate lust (Kant, et al., 1997). Human beings have the ability to reason practically and the ability to decide on the actions to take. Animals act on their instincts, and when humans do this they are not creating a committed connection, rather satisfying on their sexual impulses (Kant, et al., 1997). Contradictory to man's sexual impulses, people with no such sexual impulses or non–heterosexual desires are considered to be imperfect, not acceptable and therefore immoral. • 32. Women 's Portrayal Of Women Essay In Early modern literature, there are many pieces of literature that are written by men who talk about women in ways that objectify and try to control them because back then women were not given much agency in society. The women that are being portrayed in this type of literature about unrequited love are seen as extremely flat characters who are just the objects of affections for the narrator. This is problematic as it just portrays women as someone for the narrator of the poem to pin over although women are so much more than that. However, there are some authors trying to empower women and acknowledge the issues within their patriarchal society which are still prevalent to this day. These issues still apply today because there is still blatant sexism when positions of power are still dominated by men. There are some feminist writers on our syllabus even though a lot of them could not care less about how they represent women because they are only suppose to be an accessory to the story. They are always trying to describe what their perfect woman is like but she does not exist in real life. It causes unrealistic standards for women. For example, John Donne's poem "The Flea" is empowering as he is questioning society's views about sex before marriage. Donne is giving his beloved more agency throughout the story by criticizing the unreasonable expectations put on by institutions that govern society, like the church. • 33. Islam, A Religion That Changed Society And Struggling With... Islam, a religion that dates back to over 1600 years ago, is considered to be one of the fastest growing religions in the world. It is one of the few Abrahamic religions alongside Judaism and Christianity. Abrahamic religions have similar foundations, and conservative teachings in regards to sexuality. For instance, premarital sex is prohibited. Chastity and purity are highly valued in the Muslim community. I will be discussing my experiences, perspectives, and beliefs as being a Muslim woman in today's society and struggling with my perception of sexuality. Being born into a Muslim household, I was taught not to question religion and authority. Whenever I had asked a question about religion that my family (immediate and extended) were not able to answer, the response was "Don't question God's wisdom, we don't always know why". Unanswered questions and the inability to question authority are insufficient for me. In regards to sexuality,Islam has strict guidelines of what is expected, permitted, and condemned. For example anal sex, pre–marital sex, extramarital sex, and incest are clearly prohibited. I have come to understand that Islam does not accept many of the LGBT populations. In Islamic jurisdiction, homosexuality is deemed unnatural and condemned in Islam, as it supposedly destroys the family unit. Similarly, changing one's sex is prohibited because it is thought that God created everyone the way they are, and changing his creation is unlawful. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Should Sex Education Be Legal? Sex: the elephant in the room no one likes to talk about. It is a natural act humans have done for years but also a taboo to show or acknowledge. Sex, despite being taboo, is omnipresent. It is present in discussions of God, television, dating, and other areas, all of which have played a role into my understanding of sex and sexuality. However, public education has ultimately been the main factor in maintaining my personal safe sex life. Many parents debate whether sex education should remain in school and be exposed to their children, despite the fact sex is already pervades in other aspects of life such as religion, gender roles, media, and relationships. Sex education should remain a part of public school curriculum because it educates teenagers about its consequences and how to do it safely. Religion I have never truly believed in any form of entity that controls the universe, what happens to me and others, or destiny. Growing up in a Catholic household, I questioned God's existence a lot for allowing many tragic events to transpire, and one of the reasons I do not wish to believe in religion is because it condemns sex and different sexualities. Growing up watching television and later learning more about sex, I realized having sex does not make you a bad person. In a sense, my lack of religion makes me a lot more open to the idea of sex. While my household is not homophobic, Catholicism and Christianity in general frown upon homosexuality. Consistently, people will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Premarital Sex And Its Effects In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born prior to 1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the gender disparity may have been caused by cultural double standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and especially after World War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent among women. By the end of the 20th century, between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex before the age of 19. During the colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but privately condoned to an extent. Even though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a child outside of wedlock was not. If a pregnancy resulted from premarital sex, the young couple were expected to marry. Beginning in the 1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the stigma attached to it lessened for many people. Love began to become enough for a reason to practice sex, instead of marriage or engagement in the eyes of many. The percentage of ever–married men and women who had premarital sex (20–44 years old) between 2006 and 2010 is 90.6% men and 86% women (www.cdc.gov). A new study of 38.000 Americans has found that 95% had premarital sex (www.truthdig.com). Another statistic says that 3% of the US population, represents nearly 10.000.000 person, wait until marriage. These 3% wait to found love, get married then have sex for the first time after they get married. (waitingtillmarriage.org) .By 2000, roughly a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Premarital Sex Is Not a Sin Against God? Graham Mattison Dr. Kathleen Corley Bible and current events Position paper May 4, 2004 Premarital sex is not a sin against God? The Bible does not forbid premarital sex. There is no passage of the Bible that references premarital sex as a sin against God. The association between sin and premarital sex is a new Christian idea. The only possible reference to premarital sex being a sin in the Bible is in the New Testament. This premise although, is generally dismissed by theologians because the Greek word pornei, or sexual immorality is commonly incorrectly translated into the English word fornication. In Biblical times women were the owned property of a man. Men ruled over women and their children. Women had very few, if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for this was that in biblical times adultery was defined as a situation in which there was the danger of a married woman being impregnated by another man. This is also why sex with a prostitute is/was not adultery, even if the man is married. In the Hebrew understanding of the Adultery Commandment of Moses, Adultery, as understood by what Moses said, was only wrong for married women, never a married man. Even Solomon, a great prophet of the figure of the Bible who was said to be favored by God had seven hundred princesses and three hundred concubines. The Bible shows that polygamy, rape, incest, and orgies are not only accepted, but was often rewarded, by God and was common practice of "great men of the Bible," none of whom wherever spoken out against in the Bible. Christ 's teachings at the Sermon on the Mount were that the only law is the law of love. He showed this by reversing four of the Old Testament laws which conflicted with loving people. Therefore, anything that was unkind, not by mutual consent, etc. would be immoral for a Christian, but obviously not loving sexuality regardless of marital status or natural sexual orientation. The New Testament says nothing about premarital sex. Some versions though do mistranslate the Greek word pornei, which means sexual immorality, into the English word fornication, which means sexual intercourse with someone who one is not married to. • 38. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Single Parenting... "A single parent could feel like a mouse racing on a wheel, where she/he is continually running, trying to maintain a proper household and raise healthy children." This is a statement from Victoria Thompson. I do believe in this statement because for me single parents, unlike the married couple, are having a hard time in dividing their time with their work and taking good care of their kids. So, single parenting faces more disadvantages like the experience of economic hardship, negative judgment of the community and the psychological effects on rearing children that make the family and relation cycle really complicated. Single parenting is about having a child without living with a partner or spouse. In historical events, the major reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, their children may suffer bullying because of having only one parent. This can affect the children's way of living. Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues. The child will not be able to do what he wants because he will be afraid to socialize with other children. Second, a child with a single parent can compare their selves to the other children who have married parents. A child may feel envious about not having a father/mother to guide him/her. According to Paul R. Amato, "Children living with single parents are exposed to more stressful experiences and circumstances than being children living with continuously married parents." This statement proves that single parents are having a hard time raising their children. Lastly, the children living with a single parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings. Children who don't see or feel the act of love between his/her parent can have a hard time expressing their feelings with other person. Due to unseen acts of love, the child may be confused on how he/she will show their feelings with other person. So instead of showing it, they are going to hide their feeling with their self ... • 39. No Sex Before Marriage? Society has plugged information into young people's mind for generations. This programmed, presumptive information has made youthful people, especially teenagers, and young adults think and act like robots. Buried deep in many teenagers thoughts ensued by their parents and society are the words, "No sex before marriage!". Different people, have countless different reasons that they believe one should not have sex before marriage. Society, in lots of different places look poorly on those who engage sexually before being married. I've witnessed it happen more then once locally in my area, and its always ends with such a negative outcome. Even in schools kids are taught that sex is bad thing, and told not to engage in any sort of sexual activity. Rather then being taught about the importance of safe sex society is programing kids to just not have sex at all, especially in America. "Americans love to tout the value of waiting until marriage to have sex. We teach abstinence–only education in schools across the country, and even comprehensive sex–ed programs often point out that "abstinence is best."" (Jill Filipovic). People get married, most of the time, because the love each other but marriage is only a document. And when you love someone, you don't need a contract to prove it. And you shouldn't need a stamp of approval saying when and when you're not allowed to be intimate with someone you love. Having sex before marriage should not be looked so poorly upon this day in age. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Flea By John Donne "The Flea", by John Donne is a raunchy romantic poem that explains the speakers unyielding love that is represented by an insect. Using the insect to seduce his beloved after they both get bitten by the insect. As the speaker seduces his beloved, he involves her beliefs and values, intending to get his way with her no matter what it takes. But she doesn't give in to his manipulation. As you read more deeply into the poem, we can also see the larger and symbolic meanings of this poem. For example the flea, sex, marriage, and religion. The flea is the main focus on of this poem, It's size is considered small but it is large on the inside because it symbolizes their "marriage". Since both of their bloods have been mingled, making the speaker seem desperate for her and continues to find a way to convince her. The audience will also get a sense the speaker's character throughout the poem, he is confident, clever, charming, considerate, frustrated, and whiny. Sex is the main focus for the speaker. In line seven, Donne writes, " Yet this enjoys before it woo", the flea is actually enjoying sucking her blood because that's what flea's do. All the speaker wants is to enjoy himself with her as much as the flea does when he sucks her blood. The speaker is very unreliable when it comes to love because that's not what he's looking for. If he was then he wouldn't try to involve his beloved in premarital sex. He tries to convince her that she wouldn't be committing a sinful act, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Hypocrite Analysis "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1 Corinthians 9:27) The worst thing a leader can be in the church is a hypocrite. The Merriam–Webster Dictionary defines hypocrite as a person who acts in a way that goes against what he or she claims to believe or feel. Before I got married in 1999, I had a lust problem. I was a fornicator. I was going to church every week; but I was bound by the spirit of fornication and lust. I wore a holy mask in church, but outside of church, I was everything but holy. I couldn't live right to save my life. I lived a defeated life of sin and shame. My desire to have sex outweighed my desire to be free. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I knew what the word of God says, but yet I chose to do my own thing. I was a hearer of the word, but not a doer of the word. I knew the way of holiness, but I chose to walk contrary to the word of God.
