Many early pioneers to the Ohio region came from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. All pioneers needed a rifle and ax when traveling to Ohio. Building a log cabin involved cutting down trees, notching the ends of each log so they would fit together at corners. Fireplaces provided heat and light for pioneers. Pioneers made clothing from linen, skins, and wool. Everyday dangers for early Ohio pioneers included encountering wild animals while hunting for food.
