The first Amendment, one of ten fundamental rights we have as American citizens. It is the right to
express any opinion without censorship or restraints. It is a travesty of freedom of speech. A
misnomer that falsely empowers citizens with the belief that their opinion and beliefs can be
verbalized and listened to without penalty.
Where censorship exists, freedom of speech cannot. This holds true in companies, schools, and
media. According to the Oxford dictionary, censorship is "the suppression or prohibition of any parts

For speech to be free, there must not be restraints; however, restraints are sometimes necessary to
protect citizens. In cases where the material advertised may pose a threat to the heath of citizens, the

Half of the things from modern media that people have heard has probably been twisted in some
way. I believe that the media does twist stories, to make things sound different. There are plenty of
examples where the media will make a situation sound different, show bias towards one person, or
lie and gives false facts. The media does this a lot more than often than you think, and it can affect a
humongous area.
Surprisingly often, the media will change a story to make someone or something sound worse. For

opinionated. Consequently, the bias of the news media in their reporting's has tainted the opinions of
the American people. By creating a strict set of laws pertaining to the reporting of news, bias within
reports will have to decrease; causing a less opinionated audience, people feeling better about
themselves and humanity, and the United States growth as a stronger country.
The news media in today's world is far too opinionated. On a regular basis, the news media and
other news outlets are often discussing opinions, their own opinions, and other's opinions about
stories and news reports rather than the reports themselves. During a discussion about Donald
Trump's immigration policy on August 25th, 2016, on the CNN newsroom, one of the reporters said
that "we heard this shift on his immigration policy." However, one of the other reporters defended
Mr. Trump by saying. "First, let me correct the record" and goes on to do so and they argue back and
forth (Person Discusses). In this report, what Donald Trump said nor any part of his speech was
shared. The report was wholly opinion based. Although, the news media will share clips and snips of
stories in many of their stories.

Instead of tweeting about important issues that are related to current events, President Trump tweets
about topics that make him appear unprofessional. For example, President Trump immediately went
to twitter after SNL, a comedy sketch show, performed numerous satire pieces about his actions. He
proclaimed that SNL was the worst show of its' network, NBC. Furthermore, he said that the
comedy show is not funny and that the cast is terrible, declaring it "bad television." These comments
from our President are alarming because a newly elected President should not be taking time out of
his busy schedule to review a television show while some of the country is still struggling to adjust

"I am not going to give you a question. You are fake news." This is the now infamous response from
President Donald Trump during his first press conference since taking office when asked "Sir, can
you give us a chance to ask a question?" by CNN reporter Jim Acosta (Johnson, 2017). President
Trump's dismissal of Accosta sparked the colloquial usage of the term "fake news," a phrase the
current president uses to lambaste media sources who report stories that do not present a favorable
impression of his presidency. However, true "fake news," has existed for far longer than Donald
Trump's presidency and includes three main types: satire, biased reporting, and deliberate
misinformation. Fake news has grown in quantity and now Americans across the country are
expressing concerns about not being able to trust media sources once considered honest and
reputable, along with having trouble distinguishing between real and fake news. Companies have
varied motives for creating fake news. Satirical news sites such as The Onion are often meant to
serve as humorous jabs at the current news cycle while one–sided sources seek to persuade the
reader of a philosophical idea or political agenda by excluding facts and cherry picking data.
Deliberately deceitful news sources are often meant to influence readers to buy into a product,
mindset, or even to gain "hits" for a website by telling an outlandish story, allowing that site to
receive advertising money after a story reaches a certain amount
