Constantinople was the capital city of the Byzantine Empire. Located within Constantinople was Hagia Sophia, one of the greatest works of architecture and a former Greek Orthodox patriarchal basilica. Hagia Sophia was converted into an Ottoman mosque after the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 and is now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey.
