77. • On July 25, 1946, the United States Navy carried out the fifth detonation of an
atomic bomb in history, in a lagoon at Bikini Atoll, in the South Pacific. It was called
named Operation Crossroads. Crossroads was to consist of three test shots—Able,
Baker, and Charlie—all aimed at the target fleet. Able would be dropped from a B-
29 bomber, Baker set off on or under a barge, and Charlie detonated much deeper
underwater against a group of salvaged submarines.
• Even as the press fretted about the danger of Crossroads, it also cemented a new
feature of the atomic age: nuclear kitsch. Shortly after the Able test, the Parisian
fashion designer Louis Réard débuted a skimpy swimsuit, which he named after
the atoll: the bikini.
• Even the bomb crews got swept up in the furor, dubbing the Able weapon Gilda,
after X’s character in the film of the same name. The crew not only stenciled the
name onto the bomb casing but also attached an image of the actress. As the pun
goes, She’s the bomb. Id X.

80. X was originally an Internet shock site. Its front page featured a picture, entitled hello.jpg,
showing a naked man stretching his anus with both hands, to approximately the width of his
fist. The inside of his rectum is also clearly visible. Below his anus, his penis and scrotum are
visible, as well as a golden wedding ring on the ring finger of his left hand.
The photo became a notorious surprise image and Internet meme, and was—and, through
external mirror sites, is still used regularly in bait-and-switch pranks, prevention of hot-linking
in a hostile manner, and defacement of websites, in order to provoke extreme reactions. Even
though the image from the site was taken down in 2004, mirror websites are widespread
throughout the Web. The site has changed owners, and was set to be used to host email
addresses, which never materialized.

87. gerbilling is the practice, most often attributed to gay men, of inserting a live
rodent into one's rectum (or that of a partner) for erotic pleasure.
According to an urban legend, Several years ago, X was admitted into the emergency room of
a Los Angeles hospital with a foreign object lodged in his rectum. Some say X was alone
when he arrived, others say he was accompanied by a friend (Cindy Crawford).
In any case, an X-ray was taken and it was determined that the foreign object was a gerbil
(either alive or dead at that point, depending on who tells the story). X was rushed to
surgery, where it literally took a team of doctors to extract the unfortunate animal. Some say
the gerbil was found to have been shaven and declawed; others claim it had been encased in
a special plastic pouch. It is said that the gerbil was X's own beloved pet (appropriately
named "Tibet" in this variant). In any event, when the gerbilectomy was done the medical
team was sworn to secrecy (unsuccessfully, we must conclude), and X went on his merry
way, suffering no permanent harm other than to his reputation.

94. X is a Japanese prank performed by clasping the hands together in the shape of an

98. In July 2008, X flew into an angry tirade on the set of Y. In February 2009,

at Bruce Hurlbut, director of photography for the film. According to X,
Hurlbut had, for the second time, ruined his concentration by walking
onto the set during a scene. The recording is of X directing profanities at
Hurlbut, threatening and belittling him, and finally threatening to quit the
film.

112. • The paper is ostensibly meant to be rather serious — but then Kiddon and
Brun introduce their method at parsing humor: the DEviaNT approach.
From that point on, all bets are off. DEviaNT takes two corpora — 1.5
million erotic sentences from the textfiles.com/sex/EROTICA corpus, and
57 thousand non-erotic sentences from the Brown corpus — and then
measures how closely-related “a noun, an adjective, and a verb phrase are
to the erotica domain.” The end result, if we’re being entirely scientific
about it, is a bunch of nouns, verbs, and adjectives with a “sexiness
rating.”
• Finally, because DEviaNT is a learning algorithm, the researchers had to
feed it some data so that it could actually learn what a X looks like, and
more importantly what a X doesn’t look like.

115. The term X originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a
dozen pot-smoking people who called themselves the Waldos. The term was
shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis
Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made
X code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire
generation. What is X.

128. X is a 2016 film directed by Hansal Mehta. It stars X and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles.
It is the true story of Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras , a professor of Marathi and the head of
the Classical Modern Indian Languages Faculty.
On 9 February 2010, Siras was suspended for gross misconduct after having been ambushed
by a local TV channel's camera crew, while having sex with a rickshaw puller.
He won his case against the university in Allahabad High Court on 1 April 2010, and got back
his job as professor, along with his accommodation, until his retirement.
On 7 April 2010, Siras died in his apartment. Police suspected suicide, and preliminary results

131. The tagline of X transferred from 'Pure and Safe' to 'Play Safe' in 2002 as they had
introduced a new method for protection for their product. It was hoping to target
the youth and convey a social message for safe sex but the same was not well
accepted in India and the ad was banned.
This TV ad showed a playful couple on the beach, when suddenly the girl starts
breathing heavily, and started itching for "something". The man then frantically
starts searching his pockets, the car, his bag, and finally goes to a chemist and
comes back with X.

138. • The X was first described in a satirical open letter written by Bobby Henderson in
2005 to protest the Kansas State Board of Education’s decision to permit teaching
intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in public school science
classes. After Henderson published the letter on his website, the X rapidly
became an Internet phenomenon and a symbol of opposition to the teaching of
intelligent design in public schools.
• An excerpt from the letter is as follows:
What these people don’t understand is that He built the world to make us think the
earth is older than it really is. For example, a scientist may perform a carbon-dating
process on an artefact. He finds that approximately 75% of the Carbon-14 has
decayed by electron emission to Nitrogen-14, and infers that this artefact is
approximately 10,000 years old, as the half-life of Carbon-14 appears to be 5,730
years. But what our scientist does not realize is that every time he makes a
measurement, the X is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage. We
have numerous texts that describe in detail how this can be possible and the reasons
why He does this. He is of course invisible and can pass through normal matter with
ease.

146. John Wilmot, the 17th century English libertine, published his poem X in
1673. During the Parliamentary session of that year, objections were
raised to the proposed marriage of James, Duke of York, brother of the
King and heir to the throne, to Mary of Modena, an Italian Catholic
princess. An address was presented to King Charles on 3 November,
foreseeing the dangerous consequences of marriage to a Catholic, and
urging him to put a stop to any planned wedding '...to the unspeakable Joy
and Comfort of all Your loyal Subjects." Wilmot's response was X (You
ladies all of merry England), a mock address anticipating the 'solid'
advantages of a Catholic marriage, namely the wholesale importation of
Italian X, to the unspeakable joy and comfort of all the ladies of England:

147. You ladies all of merry England
Who have been to kiss the Duchess's hand,
Pray, did you not lately observe in the show

A rabble of pricks who were welcomed before,
Now finding the porter denied them the door,
Maliciously waited his coming below
And inhumanly fell on X...

get out of their barracks, they would need a weekend pass
or more popularly a __, so they could go to Paris and enjoy
the favors of ladies.
