The Codes Of Ethics And Ethics In Engineering
Introduction
Ethics
Ethics can be best defined as the analysis of the traits of moral or social which includes the social selections of a person as they communicate with
people. Ethics should be highly considered by engineers and engineers should be mindful of it as they are making professional decisions in the field of
engineering. Ethics is divided into two, some are preventive and others promote welfare to the society.
Engineering ethics Engineers as professionals are governed by some rules and standards that are related closely to ethics. Engineering ethics is
described as the rules and standard that controls the management of engineers as professionals, or the application of a series of scientific discipline in
the field of engineering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no clear cut solution to a single problem or a case study; however, there are many right solutions to it. Various solutions can be made to an
ethical problem, as it resembles the open–ended engineering design problems.
Codes of ethics Multiple professional engineering societies have managed to initiate some codes of ethics. The roles of the codes are to provide
bodywork for an engineer in making ethical judgement. Apart from that, these codes demonstrate the rights, responsibilities and the commitments of
the engineers. It also assists the engineers by providing a starting point to make any ethical decision.
Since the codes of ethics are not legal documents, disobeying its provisions will not result in taken into custody or imprisonment. However, the person
who violates it may be expelled from a professional society, such as National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and American Society of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Job Design
Job Design can be defined as the process of deciding on the contents of a job in terms of its duties and responsibilities on the methods to be used on
carrying out the job, in terms of techniques, systems and procedures and on the relationship that should exist between the job–holder and his superiors,
subordinates and colleagues.
Job design originated in the early 1900s, Frederick Taylor believed that efficiency could be improved by carefully designing work to increase
productivity. He supported structuring jobs for simplification and standardization. 'Simplification' means breaking down the job into smaller tasks and
then having each worker perform a small part in the total operation. A worker does the task repeatedly, the result is extreme... Show more content on

Job Specialization: Job Specialization was an early feature of job design and was introduced by Frederic Taylor who was the chief proponent of
scientific management in 1920s. This method included breaking up of a task into smaller units of work. The workers undertake specific aspect of
the work. Through this method the workers determine that most effective way of performing each task. The advantages included expertise
stemming from acute specialization, less costly and shorter period of job training, less wage because the job is unskilled and greater managerial
control. However there were a number of disadvantages including insignificant contribution of the individual which lacks meaning, there is no
opportunity for the individual to develop skills and further his/her career and the work is repetitive and boring with negative side effects such as
tardiness, absenteeism, turnover, dissatisfaction, frustration, apathy and carelessness. Nevertheless, scientific management based on Taylor's
principles still appear to be alive, like in the work of Walter and Guest in 1952 who studied the people who worked in a car assembly plant in order
to establish how satisfied they were with the various aspects of the job. They noticed that the workers were happy with their pay, the way they were
supervised, working conditions, but they were extremely dissatisfied with the real work they were doing. Therefore it was noticed that the application
of scientific management had implications in terms of efficiency but, if carried too far, acute specialization would generate a number of adverse
impact. As a result it was observed that there should be less monotonous jobs and in this respect two alternative approaches to job redesign– job
rotation and job enlargement were

Ethical Dilemma Employment Law
Engineering organizations around the world have become more diverse and immersed in the culture that surrounds their physical location. This is due
to the advancement of technology and infrastructure over the years in the engineering field. The engineering organization that will be analyzed in this
report has had rapid growth from a financial perspective as well as employee growth. This organization has a current full–time employee count of
approximately three hundred with a part–time employee count of approximately twenty. Employees in this organization can be categorized into the
following categories; accounting, administration, executive, management, human resource, skilled laborers, technicians, engineers, and customer
service. The organization is financially stable and the workplace morale is good, however there are ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one that this organization is facing due to the increasing number of employees year to year, is in regards to the Fair Labor Standards Act of
1938 (FLSA). The ethical dilemma that could potentially arise in the organization is the pay discrepancy towards some employees regarding employee
overtime pay and compensation. If two employees engage in conversation and one brings up overtime and that other employee does not get overtime, it
may have that employee questioning the pay scale within the organization. The other ethical dilemma this organization faces regarding employment
law is how employee safety in the workplace is handled. The organization currently only has one certified safety position to oversee all activities in the
company. This is a considerable ethical duty to uphold when it comes to overseeing three hundred plus employee. Violations and issues can be missed
therefore resulting in fines, some substantial, to the organization if not

The Practice Of Music And Enables Artists And Guest Curators
Preface Introduction
Have you ever rushed around Newcastle, totally preoccupied with the hectic hustle and bustle of city life? Passersby are often too busy or late for
something to really take in their surroundings. The practice of busking has given Newcastle a soundtrack, a musical backdrop to the chaos of city life.
However, street performers are often restricted to limited areas in order to oblige the regulations set out by the council.
This book introduces the aim of the project whereas to promote the practice of music and enables artists and guest curators to explore their creativity
while participating and engaging with music. A platform provided to become the mass populist entertainment for the population.

The lack of interesting places for concert has affected people to have less interest in visiting music spaces and there should be a suitable one for the
use, enjoyment and also benefit the people of this vibrant city.
It may not be the ultimate music space, but the premise of this project is to unite musicians with supported facilities and give them the opportunity to
promote their own music. Audiences will be offered with a fully immersive ambience and a complete program of professional cultural entertainment.
The book will demonstrate the intention of creating the music hall through its position first and foremost as an entertainment, and secondly as a
cultural presence that is increasingly seen as a key element in regeneration plans.3
Nature of Subject / Topics
A lot of people's perception of buskers is both brutally frank and ironic despite this artistic practice has always been as part of the contribution to this
culture. They are far less appreciative of these performances that are carried out with a genre which they could never normally encounter. In
consideration of the addressed matter, the music hall services as a stage that nurtures homegrown talent and accommodates wandering players.

Engineering Ethics: The Aspects Of Engineering And Ethics
INTRODUCTION
Engineering Ethics come from two words, which is engineering and ethics. Engineering is one of the applications of science to meet human needs and
desires. Combines engineering science, mathematics, and experience to design an object or process. Professional engineering practice called engineers.
The word engineering came from Latin word which is ingenium meaning 'contrive, design'. In this 21st century, engineering had been use widely
surround human life. The word ethics derived from the Greek word which is "ethos". Ethos means morality or custom character. Synonymous with
the word moral comes from other word "Mos" to the plural "Mores" which means custom or way of life. Therefore, engineering ethics is a set of
scientific discipline that applies to the profession of engineering. In 19th centuries, engineering ethics was not view as professional concern. But it is
view as personal concern. In early of 20th centuries, disaster such as series of significant structural failures, including some spectacular bridge failures,
notably the Ashtabula River Railroad Disaster (1876), Tay Bridge Disaster (1879), and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, to wider the mentality of engineer not only to understand engineering as science and mathematics but to get them to talk in ethical
categories and able to understand engineering at a philosophy level. This is because the engineering involved in various aspects of everyday human
life. For example, medical engineering. The engineering involved hospital where all hospital equipment involving machines made by engineers.
Imagine a world without engineers who have no ethics. Where all creation is created without efficiency. Perhaps an accident will happen as in the 20th
century. Thus, engineering ethics are very important in engineering to open the minds of engineers that engineering plays a vital role in society and the

Engineering Performance-Based Fire Codes
Preliminary views on implementing Engineering Performance–Based Fire Codes in Hong Kong: What should be done? Abstract Engineering
performance–based fire codes (EPBFC) are to be developed in Hong Kong. Before implementing EPBFC, or even writing down what should be
done, such as the fire safety objectives, current prescriptive fire codes should be understood. This will be a very big project to be tackled step by
step, certainly not regarded as a normal consultancy project which can be completed within a short period of, say three years. Key points on suitability
of implementing EPBFC in Hong Kong, or preserving prescriptive codes but with active updating are discussed. Approaches used overseas are... Show

In fact, before deciding whether to stick to prescriptive codes with active updating or to use EPBFC, well–planned long–term investigational works
should be carried out. This should also be a 'life–long' research project for upgrading the code to solve new problems encountered. This was well
recognized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). There, EPBFC has been studied since 1995 with some support of Area of Strategic
Development: Construction Industry Development Studies and Research Centre. A journal [37] reporting the development, problems encountered,
scientific principles, engineering judgements and practical examples was established. It appears that if EPBFC is applied properly by experts with
good training in fire safety engineering such as those holding PhD degrees, and with practical engineering experience up to Chartered Engineer status,
the following can be achieved as reported in the literature [13–34]: в†ђ Better fire safety provisions than described in the older versions of prescriptive
codes for both passive and active fire safety measures [18]. в†ђ Regulations requiring systems that might not work in a fire or even give adverse effect
can be pointed out and updated. The requirements of installing sprinkler at high headroom atrium and in escape staircases are obvious examples. This
is similar to imposing the local speed limit of 50 km per hour in downtown areas where almost all drivers will not pay attention to!

Reflection Essay
It was the first day of the new semester. Dr. Razzaque, the professor giving the introductory lecture of his fluid mechanics course, decided to start with
an audacious statement. "If you think mechanical engineering is too broad in scope for your liking, remember, you have seen nothing yet." Aware that
he had the class's attention, he went on, "Think about what you have learned so far. You have taken courses in physics, multivariable calculus, electric
circuits, computer programming and so on. It will be some time before you will properly understand how all these elements come together, but when
you do, you will probably be surprised by your own understanding of the world." He then went on to explain, citing Formula One, computational fluid
dynamics and biomimetics, how mechanical engineering brings very diverse skill sets together. Those words felt, at the time, like a key to making
sense of the plethora of courses that was my college life. Dr. Razzaque had suddenly made me realize the relevance of what I was learning. It would
prove to be a pivotal point in my academic life. That lecture, and the following course, renewed my passion for mechanical engineering. I joined Dr.
Hasan's lab a year later as an undergraduate researcher and now I aspire to pursue graduate studies in mechanical engineering. All of these can be
traced back to that quiet spring morning more than two years ago.

Computer Resource Using Virtualization Technology
Among these SPE process, we focus on load generating of performance testing. There are many load generating tools like Load Runner [13] and Silk
Performer [14]. However, tools cannot cover every testing scenario. In a server/client environment, client sends information to server generally.
However, server may send information to client. Existing tools cannot support that scenario. If a tool does not understand communication protocol, it
cannot generate load and if DUT[2] uses new technique that tool does not support, it cannot
generate load. In those situations, we cannot use existing load generating tool and we may have to use many real computers and lot of people are
required to operate software on those computers which is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Architecture of the tool
The overall architecture of the tool is presented in Figure 1. Virtual computers are generated from real server. The number of virtual computers
generated from a real server depends on the scenario under which the DUT[2] is to be analyzed. Each Virtual Computer has a different IP Address.
Thus, each virtual computer acts as an individual client. The user (tester) just interacts with the physical computer and executes the python scripts
present. These scripts activate the virtual computers which interact with the DUT[2] and generate traffic depending on the profile which the user
selects before the test begins.
Virtualization is a technique that abstracts computing resource. It enables the users to create a simulated environment and use the resources
effectively. Virtualization is divided into several categories as purpose such as server virtualization, network virtualization, desktop virtualization,
application virtualization and so on [15]. In this paper, we use desktop virtualization technique to perform software performance test. There are a lot
of desktop virtualization products such as VMWARE [16], Virtual PC [17], Parallels [18], Virtual Box [19] and so on. We selected VMWARE
because it is the most frequently used product and it uses computing resource efficiently. It enables the users to use all the CPU cores effectively. It also

Human Factors Of An Engineering Design Process
1.Provide a brief discussion of the main points in this article
Human factors or ergonomics is beneficial when it is incorporated in the early stages of an engineering design process because it focuses on improving
worker efficiency which leads to a better engineering design and business performance. HF specialists must try to understand the manufacturing
/industry process, engineering production design issues and corporate strategies so they can effectively link them with human factors and work with
engineers to adapt tools and techniques to include human factors. By conducting a planned research, the team was able to: a) Help human factors
specialists and engineers to overcome their differences of educational backgrounds, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Engineers in new product realization mostly didn't know what the human factors specialists could offer or how to engage them" (p. 37).
Information processing approach characterizes thinking as the environment providing an input of data. The information can be stored, retrieved and
transformed by our senses using mental programs with the results being behavioral responses.
The conception of the human as an information processing system is invaluable for the investigation of human factors issues because it meets the
requirement of allowing human machine performance to be analyzed in terms of the same basic functions.
The human factors specialists can input bring this valuable knowledge of information processing approach in the design of assembly line design
because efficient assembly line design not only requires efficient machinery but also efficient human operators for overall production and quality.
3.What links to Human Factors were realized on the merged map? How do they relate to class concepts?
The links to Human Factors that were realized on the merged map are described as the five tools adapted for human factors, which were integrated
into various stages of production design. These tools were HF pFMEA, HF DFA targets, HF DFF targets, Workstation layout template, and HF kaizens.

Paul's Vocabulary Immigrant
Passionate. That is primary word that comes to mind when I talk about Paul Spezza. Throughout my career I have had the privilege of working for
many students whom say that they are passionate about something, but never follow through with action. Paul is the opposite. The amount of
activities that he is immersed in inclines me to say that there is "no rest for the weary" and I would say that the word failure is not in his vocabulary.
No wonder he is currently ranked as our school's valediction out of a class of 932 students.

when working with others he is swift to know when to apply his leadership skills and when it is the time to allow others to shine.
In addition, he has over 100 volunteer hours by joining in such activities as being a mentor and afterschool tutor for elementary school aged children,

Appalachian Spring Concert Report
Exposition IV: An Appalachian Spring, is a performance of various musicians within Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts. The event took place at
Moss Arts Center in the Anne and Ellen Fife theater, with musicians stationed on stage and on the side balconies. A different instrument section played
each segment of the performance, including: horn ensemble, string ensemble, bassoonists, percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, the Linux Laptop
Orchestra, Kinect sensor and computer, and male and female choirs. This exposition was held in order to benefit the performing arts scholarship
program at Virginia Tech, but it seemed that the performance had the goal of showing off the individual ensemble's talents, and, in the end, combining
those talents.
Growing up in the Appalachians, I have had plenty of experience with bluegrass and folk, and the wide range of the culture that has had influences on
the music. Due to my background, I've heard two of the three songs which were being adapted. I attended the exposition curious to see how Bigler

to my strong problem solving skills. With no previous experience with engineering, a great deal of my knowledge for the subject comes from studying
mathematics, physics and computer science at A–Level. In preparation to study engineering at university, I have decided to read the books "Think like

knowledge to create more efficient mechanical limbs that may allow amputees to run and jump. From my reading, I have gained awareness of how
natural tendons have certain physical properties that allow them to function efficiently. This include very low strain which allows the animal to

When researching companies and average salaries, I often turn towards Glassdoor ("Glassdoor," 2016) as a source for company reviews, salaries and
company interview practises. The data curated on Glassdoor is maintained by current or former company employees which further reinforces the

Ase Code Of Ethics Essay
Based on the article from the Sacramento Bee on the Bay Bridge there were ethical violations violated by both the panelists and Caltrans that violated
the American Society of Civil Engineers Cannons one , four, and six. The first cannon of the ASCE code of ethics is that "Engineers shall hold
paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public and shall strive to comply with the principles of sustainable development in the performance of
their profession duties" (asce.org). From the Sacramento Bee article a panelist by the name of Nicoletti, said in an email that he was unaware of the
Caltrans analysis on the bridge, even though the panelist's findings relied on the analysis' conclusion. This violates the first cannon of the ASCE code...

A specific example where this code was violated in the Sacramento Bee article was that "Caltrans didn't reveal serious bridge–testing problems –
including fraud – to the public, elected officials, and the peer review panel itself." This is undoubtedly a violation of the sixth code of ethics. Not only
does violate the code of ethics but it puts into question whether or not Caltrans engineers should retain their license when they failed to provide
crucial information to the public and review panels. It is the job of an engineer to make sure that if there are critical problems to tests or projects
that it is reported to the public, officials, and other engineers such as panelists. Engineers should have the dignity to admit to problems found from
tests and project sites to other engineers involved in the project so that the problem can be fixed. It is better to have a problem revealed while a
project is in progress compared to revealing the problem when the project is over. Revealing problems early in the project may cost more money in
the long run but it will ensure the safety of the public which is the job of an engineer, instead of finding out that the project had a critical failure that
caused lives to be lost in the

S. T. Sem Fear Research Paper
S.T.E.M FEAR can be defined as the unpleasant emotions which deter an individual from engaging in activities in the field of Science, Technology,
Engineering or Math. S.T.E.M. fear is believed to be one of the main causes of the gender disparity seen in STEM careers worldwide. This
discrepancy has become a rising concern in the USA where woman account for half (50.8%) of the entire population. Studies show that although
women currently account for half the population, their presences in STEM fields are minimal. Therefore, articles such as "Letting girls speak about
science" and "The Impact of Robot Projects on Girls' Attitudes toward Science and Engineering," attempt to bring understanding to what factors
contribute to the gender gap.
пѓ Baker, D., & Leary, R. (1995). Letting girls speak out about science. Journal of research in science teaching, 32(1), 3–27.
In the article, Baker, and Leary attempt to determine what factors influence girls to choose science. Many studies have been dedicated to identifying

I Am Working With Other Parts Of The Project
One of the lessons that I have learned through my 4+ years of work experience as an EIT is that a good Engineer must always be aware of the real
life system limitations of any project he/she is involved with. With experience, not only are you able to keep aware of these limitations, but you can
also prepare for them. As Engineers, when we set out to design a product or system, we are working in a theoretical world with no limitations or
constraints. However, out in the real world, there are numerous constraints and limitations that come into play when we are forced to integrate our
design into a functioning tool. Many times, on large projects, I'm working with different groups and subcontractors. When I release an engineering
drawing, I have to understand that it must cooperate well with other parts of the project. This takes a lot of coordination with different disciplines, and
at times poses limitations on your design that would otherwise not be present. In my experience, I had to modify my design many times to better suit
the overall structure and project requirements. In other cases, constraints could be brought upon through legal and/or cosmetic means. For example, I
have been involved in projects where I would draft a design which boasts a solid engineering background. However, for any number of reasons, the
client might not necessarily like something and thus the design must be re–suited to that constraint. However, I have also learned to be mindful in this
area. If

not even half. It wasn't even dancing that made me want to be a ballerina in the first place. I had chased after that dream for so long, well into the 2nd
grade actually, all for the chance I'd one day get to wear the puffiest, cutest, silkiest, glitteriest pink tutu. And then my parents told me to think about

Simulation Modelling Essay
Simulation modelling is the procedure of developing and analysing a prototype of a physical model to predict its behaviour and performance in
real–world or over time. A model represents the system itself and the simulation represents the operation of the system over a specified time period. It
can be used to show the effects of possible conditions and the sequence of action. Modelling and simulation helps obtaining information about how a
system will perform without testing it in real life. It shows any flaws in the design and reduces potential errors with the system itself, as well the
operation of it. Also, validates the safety and durability of a physical prototype. This reduces the costs and increases the quality of products and systems.
Figure 1: Interaction between model, experiment, theory and the simulation of the system.

Simulations can often be more realistic than traditional experiments, as they allow to change the environment parameters at any stage of the design.
Analysis and simulations can be performed faster and more accurate than hand calculations and experimental testing. This allows using them for
efficient analyse of different alternatives. Also, it is quicker to make decisions from using simulation applications.
Simulations set up a coherent environment that allows for integration of simulated systems in the early analysis phase with initial components to a test
environment for the final system. Then, this environment can be transferred from development and testing field to training and education phases for
the system.

"Most of the impact of culture is subconscious: We don 't really know why we want to become a teacher, why we enjoy certain kinds of music, and
where the characteristics come from that we use when we choose a mate. Culture largely influences all of these traits
(Hall, 1976a, 1977). We also know that these cultural contexts are continually changing and that each individual processes membership in various
cultural groups differently (Wardle, F., 2013)."
Music has been placed in the curriculum of many schools but dance has not and I want to change that beginning with my students. Creativity is needed
and in dance and music there is always creativity involved. By having my students perform music and dance from different cultures it will allow them
to work together and be creative. The students will need access to videos, different instruments that are played by different cultures. We will be
providing learning through the art of music and dance. This also allows the students to express themselves in an emotional and physical way.
As my students get more comfortable with performing we would like to take them to different schools to perform. Also making this not just a
classroom project but move it to be an activity for the children for after school and eventually to where other students from other schools can join and
they can put on a performance all together. By bringing in teachers from different schools it helps to teach in different leaning styles

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE– PhD in Computational Engineering??
"In this mighty world many blabber about their dreams, but who identified their paths and persistently stuck on their words are the few ones, who are

I have had a special interest in mechanical engineering since my childhood, as I grew up watching my father develop complicated equipment for
power plants. Hence, I opted for a mechanical engineering course for my UG program. The concept of computational science and engineering which
uses numerical approaches to characterize, predict and simulate physical events and engineering systems using the laws of mechanics fascinated me. To
understand their advanced methodologies, I have pursued a Master's degree in CAD/CAM from VIT .
The courses in my PG program included Finite element methods, Applied engineering mathematics, Advanced stress analysis, Advanced strength of

Seconds gave birth to minutes and minutes to hours, yet my concentration remained resolute. Despite the daunting nature of the task, I remained
determined in what I had to achieve. For the first time applying some rudimentary scientific ideas I managed to build an intricate model of a toy car.
"You shall grow up to become an Engineer one day," my father exclaimed gazing at my laudable piece of creativity. I was only eleven and yet those
prophetic words unknowingly chartered my future course for me.
There are no engineers in my family to persuade me into becoming one. It was my own interest and curiosity that drove me into analyzing how things
work. Over the years I have developed a passion for solving complex problems that involve technical challenges. I have learnt that an engineering
problem does not have a standard solution to it and that an engineer has to choose the best from amongst the various options. The process of applying
scientific methods to solve real–life problems continued to intrigue me throughout my years of study, initially in the context of my own behavior, and
later to observe and investigate its impact on an increasing affinity towards Engineering.
When I was twelve, I went on a school trip to apipe factory in Lahore. I was fascinated by the way pipes were being subjected to hydrostatic pressure

and engineering was said to be due in large part of their lack of ability, interest, or both" (Horning 30). However, this is no longer a true fact according

Xie states that women with children have a much smaller chance to pursue a career in engineering. These women are less likely to receive a
promotion. Gender roles in society demand more of women in raising children. Differences in marriage and social life can be held responsible for most
of the difficulty that is placed on women in engineering. Interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is thinning for women
as they progress into higher levels. Women in grades 7–12 were surveyed to see if their interest in STEM fields were diminishing. According to Van
Leuvan, this survey showed that there was a decline in interest as these girls progress through high school. Throughout middle school and junior high
a love for mathematics can be developed. However, a loss of interest is present as soon as girls hit more demanding classes like calculus. Grades will
highly diminished and a fear for comprehension of mathematics in the future will develope. According to the article "Women and Minorities in

Aside from chemistry and physics, a one–year calculus sequence is a prerequisite for many engineering courses (Frehill). Bonsangue and Drew
described calculus as the "gateway course". They found that women who demonstrate good performance and persistence in calculus would likely
succeed in engineering. Moreno and Muller's research corroborated

The Codes Of Ethics And Ethics In Engineering

  • 1. The Codes Of Ethics And Ethics In Engineering Introduction Ethics Ethics can be best defined as the analysis of the traits of moral or social which includes the social selections of a person as they communicate with people. Ethics should be highly considered by engineers and engineers should be mindful of it as they are making professional decisions in the field of engineering. Ethics is divided into two, some are preventive and others promote welfare to the society. Engineering ethics Engineers as professionals are governed by some rules and standards that are related closely to ethics. Engineering ethics is described as the rules and standard that controls the management of engineers as professionals, or the application of a series of scientific discipline in the field of engineering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no clear cut solution to a single problem or a case study; however, there are many right solutions to it. Various solutions can be made to an ethical problem, as it resembles the open–ended engineering design problems. Codes of ethics Multiple professional engineering societies have managed to initiate some codes of ethics. The roles of the codes are to provide bodywork for an engineer in making ethical judgement. Apart from that, these codes demonstrate the rights, responsibilities and the commitments of the engineers. It also assists the engineers by providing a starting point to make any ethical decision. Since the codes of ethics are not legal documents, disobeying its provisions will not result in taken into custody or imprisonment. However, the person who violates it may be expelled from a professional society, such as National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers ... • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Job Design Job Design can be defined as the process of deciding on the contents of a job in terms of its duties and responsibilities on the methods to be used on carrying out the job, in terms of techniques, systems and procedures and on the relationship that should exist between the job–holder and his superiors, subordinates and colleagues. Job design originated in the early 1900s, Frederick Taylor believed that efficiency could be improved by carefully designing work to increase productivity. He supported structuring jobs for simplification and standardization. 'Simplification' means breaking down the job into smaller tasks and then having each worker perform a small part in the total operation. A worker does the task repeatedly, the result is extreme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Job Specialization: Job Specialization was an early feature of job design and was introduced by Frederic Taylor who was the chief proponent of scientific management in 1920s. This method included breaking up of a task into smaller units of work. The workers undertake specific aspect of the work. Through this method the workers determine that most effective way of performing each task. The advantages included expertise stemming from acute specialization, less costly and shorter period of job training, less wage because the job is unskilled and greater managerial control. However there were a number of disadvantages including insignificant contribution of the individual which lacks meaning, there is no opportunity for the individual to develop skills and further his/her career and the work is repetitive and boring with negative side effects such as tardiness, absenteeism, turnover, dissatisfaction, frustration, apathy and carelessness. Nevertheless, scientific management based on Taylor's principles still appear to be alive, like in the work of Walter and Guest in 1952 who studied the people who worked in a car assembly plant in order to establish how satisfied they were with the various aspects of the job. They noticed that the workers were happy with their pay, the way they were supervised, working conditions, but they were extremely dissatisfied with the real work they were doing. Therefore it was noticed that the application of scientific management had implications in terms of efficiency but, if carried too far, acute specialization would generate a number of adverse impact. As a result it was observed that there should be less monotonous jobs and in this respect two alternative approaches to job redesign– job rotation and job enlargement were ... The first one that this organization is facing due to the increasing number of employees year to year, is in regards to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). The ethical dilemma that could potentially arise in the organization is the pay discrepancy towards some employees regarding employee overtime pay and compensation. If two employees engage in conversation and one brings up overtime and that other employee does not get overtime, it may have that employee questioning the pay scale within the organization. The other ethical dilemma this organization faces regarding employment law is how employee safety in the workplace is handled. The organization currently only has one certified safety position to oversee all activities in the company. This is a considerable ethical duty to uphold when it comes to overseeing three hundred plus employee. Violations and issues can be missed therefore resulting in fines, some substantial, to the organization if not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Engineering is one of the applications of science to meet human needs and desires. Combines engineering science, mathematics, and experience to design an object or process. Professional engineering practice called engineers. The word engineering came from Latin word which is ingenium meaning 'contrive, design'. In this 21st century, engineering had been use widely surround human life. The word ethics derived from the Greek word which is "ethos". Ethos means morality or custom character. Synonymous with the word moral comes from other word "Mos" to the plural "Mores" which means custom or way of life. Therefore, engineering ethics is a set of scientific discipline that applies to the profession of engineering. In 19th centuries, engineering ethics was not view as professional concern. But it is view as personal concern. • 9. Engineering Performance-Based Fire Codes Preliminary views on implementing Engineering Performance–Based Fire Codes in Hong Kong: What should be done? Abstract Engineering performance–based fire codes (EPBFC) are to be developed in Hong Kong. Before implementing EPBFC, or even writing down what should be done, such as the fire safety objectives, current prescriptive fire codes should be understood. This will be a very big project to be tackled step by step, certainly not regarded as a normal consultancy project which can be completed within a short period of, say three years. Key points on suitability of implementing EPBFC in Hong Kong, or preserving prescriptive codes but with active updating are discussed. Approaches used overseas are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, before deciding whether to stick to prescriptive codes with active updating or to use EPBFC, well–planned long–term investigational works should be carried out. This should also be a 'life–long' research project for upgrading the code to solve new problems encountered. This was well recognized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). There, EPBFC has been studied since 1995 with some support of Area of Strategic Development: Construction Industry Development Studies and Research Centre. A journal [37] reporting the development, problems encountered, scientific principles, engineering judgements and practical examples was established. It appears that if EPBFC is applied properly by experts with good training in fire safety engineering such as those holding PhD degrees, and with practical engineering experience up to Chartered Engineer status, the following can be achieved as reported in the literature [13–34]: в†ђ Better fire safety provisions than described in the older versions of prescriptive codes for both passive and active fire safety measures [18]. в†ђ Regulations requiring systems that might not work in a fire or even give adverse effect can be pointed out and updated. The requirements of installing sprinkler at high headroom atrium and in escape staircases are obvious examples. This is similar to imposing the local speed limit of 50 km per hour in downtown areas where almost all drivers will not pay attention to! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Reflection Essay It was the first day of the new semester. Dr. Razzaque, the professor giving the introductory lecture of his fluid mechanics course, decided to start with an audacious statement. "If you think mechanical engineering is too broad in scope for your liking, remember, you have seen nothing yet." Aware that he had the class's attention, he went on, "Think about what you have learned so far. You have taken courses in physics, multivariable calculus, electric circuits, computer programming and so on. It will be some time before you will properly understand how all these elements come together, but when you do, you will probably be surprised by your own understanding of the world." He then went on to explain, citing Formula One, computational fluid dynamics and biomimetics, how mechanical engineering brings very diverse skill sets together. Those words felt, at the time, like a key to making sense of the plethora of courses that was my college life. Dr. Razzaque had suddenly made me realize the relevance of what I was learning. It would prove to be a pivotal point in my academic life. That lecture, and the following course, renewed my passion for mechanical engineering. I joined Dr. Hasan's lab a year later as an undergraduate researcher and now I aspire to pursue graduate studies in mechanical engineering. All of these can be traced back to that quiet spring morning more than two years ago. While Dr. Razzaque's course did not cover much of the coming together he alluded to, my ... The amount of activities that he is immersed in inclines me to say that there is "no rest for the weary" and I would say that the word failure is not in his vocabulary. No wonder he is currently ranked as our school's valediction out of a class of 932 students. The event took place at Moss Arts Center in the Anne and Ellen Fife theater, with musicians stationed on stage and on the side balconies. A different instrument section played each segment of the performance, including: horn ensemble, string ensemble, bassoonists, percussion ensemble, jazz ensemble, the Linux Laptop Orchestra, Kinect sensor and computer, and male and female choirs. This exposition was held in order to benefit the performing arts scholarship program at Virginia Tech, but it seemed that the performance had the goal of showing off the individual ensemble's talents, and, in the end, combining those talents. Growing up in the Appalachians, I have had plenty of experience with bluegrass and folk, and the wide range of the culture that has had influences on the music. • 17. My Passion For Engineering My true passion for engineering began when I came across the quote: "Technology are devices that make our lives better". Despite my first love of mathematics, my recent interest for engineering has come from two major influences. The first being my mathematics and physics teachers, both engineers by nature, who have helped me enhance the fundamental skills essential for engineering and embrace the importance of the field. The second being the learning about uses of technology in Computer Science, it taught me the magnitude of which technology contributes to our everyday lives has led me to intensify my desire to improve the lives of others. I believe that my mathematics and physics skills would make me a proficient engineer. This is proven with my consistent performance in the UKMT, achieving top of year for 5 consecutive years and reaching the final round in the intermediate stage as early as year 10. This has allowed be to demonstrate my flexibility and adaptability, which are both important factors to my strong problem solving skills. With no previous experience with engineering, a great deal of my knowledge for the subject comes from studying mathematics, physics and computer science at A–Level. In preparation to study engineering at university, I have decided to read the books "Think like an engineer" by Guru Madhavan and "Cats' Paws and Catapults" by Steven Vogel. The reason behind this was to grasp the methods in which a skilled engineer would think and enhance basic knowledge about the effects of materials and forces. My aim for the future would be to use my engineering knowledge to create more efficient mechanical limbs that may allow amputees to run and jump. From my reading, I have gained awareness of how natural tendons have certain physical properties that allow them to function efficiently. This include very low strain which allows the animal to rebound without wasting high energy, as the animal takes a stride the tendon compresses and absorbs energy, it then releases it when the animal springs forward. From the books, I have also gathered the difference in the walking and running in terms of motion, energy storage and efficiency. Developing such knowledge at undergraduate level will hopefully ... It is the job of an engineer to make sure that if there are critical problems to tests or projects that it is reported to the public, officials, and other engineers such as panelists. Engineers should have the dignity to admit to problems found from tests and project sites to other engineers involved in the project so that the problem can be fixed. It is better to have a problem revealed while a project is in progress compared to revealing the problem when the project is over. I Am Working With Other Parts Of The Project One of the lessons that I have learned through my 4+ years of work experience as an EIT is that a good Engineer must always be aware of the real life system limitations of any project he/she is involved with. With experience, not only are you able to keep aware of these limitations, but you can also prepare for them. As Engineers, when we set out to design a product or system, we are working in a theoretical world with no limitations or constraints. However, out in the real world, there are numerous constraints and limitations that come into play when we are forced to integrate our design into a functioning tool. Many times, on large projects, I'm working with different groups and subcontractors. When I release an engineering drawing, I have to understand that it must cooperate well with other parts of the project. This takes a lot of coordination with different disciplines, and at times poses limitations on your design that would otherwise not be present. In my experience, I had to modify my design many times to better suit the overall structure and project requirements. In other cases, constraints could be brought upon through legal and/or cosmetic means. For example, I have been involved in projects where I would draft a design which boasts a solid engineering background. However, for any number of reasons, the client might not necessarily like something and thus the design must be re–suited to that constraint. However, I have also learned to be mindful in this area. Simulation Modelling Essay Simulation modelling is the procedure of developing and analysing a prototype of a physical model to predict its behaviour and performance in real–world or over time. A model represents the system itself and the simulation represents the operation of the system over a specified time period. It can be used to show the effects of possible conditions and the sequence of action. Modelling and simulation helps obtaining information about how a system will perform without testing it in real life. It shows any flaws in the design and reduces potential errors with the system itself, as well the operation of it. Also, validates the safety and durability of a physical prototype. This reduces the costs and increases the quality of products and systems. Figure 1: Interaction between model, experiment, theory and the simulation of the system.
