Google uses virtualization for internal corporate infrastructure. As part of this, we have developed a number of tools, some open source, for managing the Xen deployment. The talk will describe the technical infrastructure used, the internal workflows and machine management processes, and the specific use-cases for virtualization.
Slides of Kubernetes Athens Meetup vol3 - Unikernels An alternative OS Archit...Nikos Zois
This presentation is a part of Kubernetes meetup vol3 @ Athens.
At the very beggining we explain how we manage until now to come closer to the virtual hardware, removing possible duplication layers, that appear between the hypervisor and the Virtual Machine. An alternative solution removing duplication layers is Unikernels. Having small sized VM including only hypervisor libraries and our application in the same level (kernel), we build a Custom Virtual Machine targeting smaller footprint, reduced latency and better security. Next we explain very fast the OSv unikernel that allow us to compose a linux service built as shared object within the unikernel. Finnally we see a benchmark of a Redis Cluster that is running on OSv unikernels.
Docker moves very fast, with an edge channel released every month and a stable release every 3 months. Patrick will talk about how Docker introduced Docker EE and a certification program for containers and plugins with Docker CE and EE 17.03 (from March), the announcements from DockerCon (April), and the many new features planned for Docker CE 17.05 in May.
This talk will be about what's new in Docker and what's next on the roadmap

Kitware is involved with Qt in two main areas. First, Kitware is the provider of the CMake (www.cmake.org) build tool which is used to build KDE, the flagship open source Qt project. In addition, Kitware has been using Qt for the ParaView (www.paraview.org) project. ParaView is an open-source, multi-platform data analysis and visualization application. With the recent change in Qt licensing Kitware is also starting to use Qt for many other open source scientific and medical projects. For cross platform C++ GUI development Qt now stands alone as really the only viable choice. This talk will cover the CMake build system, and the impact Qt and Qt derived projects are having on state of the art scientific computation.

Linux, Unikernel, LinuxKit: towards redefining the cloud stack.Idit Levine
One of the major announcement last week at DockerCon 2017 was LinuxKit, a tool to create minimal and safer operating system for running your containers.
This announcement marks a new phase in the quest to redefine the the stack in the cloud, which had started with the introduction of Unikernels.
In this session we will provide a deep dive on LinuxKit, Unikernels and what they mean for the future of the cloud.
We will discuss how these approaches are Integrated with clusters management tools like kubernetes, and show a few demos.
Cloud Native Night November 2019, Munich: Talk by Matthias Häusslerr (Cloud Consultant at Novatec)
=== Please download slides if blurred! ===
Abstract: Containers, applications, functions: When deploying workloads to the cloud, developers have various options. With this talk, we intend to clarify the different possibilities, with closer focus on Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, Project Eirini, and Knative.
We'll compare and contrast the latest experiences of those platforms in order to extract a meaningful comparison of their features from a developer perspective, providing answers to the following questions:
- Which type of workloads are suitable for which platform?
- Which programming model applies for each platform?
- Where are the differences/where are the overlaps?
- How mature are the individual solutions?
- How simple and user-friendly are they?
Additionally, we'll measure and compare key metrics that affect the developer experience (e.g., time to deploy, time to scale, and other such metrics). The overall goal is to better understand what makes each individual useful in the best way and how they can work together.
RTP NPUG: Ansible Intro and Integration with ACIJoel W. King
Ansible is one of the newer and more exciting automation toolsets for networking. Ansible (unlike Puppet and Chef) is agentless, which makes it significantly easier to automate existing devices that may not have an agent installed – such as many networking devices.
Networks are evolving from hundreds or thousands of individual devices to the Software-Defined Network paradigm of a single fabric under a central controller. The GUI on top of an SDN controller isn’t sufficient and will still need automation.
This presentation describes how Ansible can add value to configuration management of a Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) infrastructure.
An introduction to the Moby Project and LinuxKit. The demo essentially walked through the LinuxKit examples available on Github at https://github.com/linuxkit/linuxkit paying specific attention to the linuxkit.yml nginx example in the home directory, and the redis-os example in the examples directory.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

12. Cloud computing - simplified
● Everyone has a different definition
● Let's stick with the NIST definition:
“Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-
demand network access to a shared pool of configurable
computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage,
applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and
released with minimal management effort or service provider
interaction. This cloud model promotes availability and is
composed of five essential characteristics, three delivery models,
and four deployment models”
NIST
Definition of cloud computing, Draft 14
http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/SNS/cloud-computing/index.html
13. More simplified definition
● Cloud computing is:
– On-demand
– Self-service
– Ubiquitous network access
– Location independent resource pooling
– Rapid Elasticity
– Measured service
