which has intrigued me so far in the semester of social psychology is the foot in the
door phenomenon. The foot in the door phenomenon is described in our textbooks
as the tendency for people who have first agreed to a small request to comply later
with a large request (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2013). It can be
understood as asking someone (i.e. friend, family member, co worker or stranger)
agreeing to do a small service for you then later they are more willing to agree to a
larger favor that you ask of them. Most of this phenomenon is based on how you

The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada is a biographical account of
his childhood in the south Bronx. He and his 4 brothers were raised by only their
mother. She would survive on no more than ten dollars a week. He moved several
times as a child until finally landing on union avenue, the place were many of his
life lessons were learned and at times applied. He learned about the ranking process
of kids on union Ave. and how the only way to improve your status was to use your
fists to fight your way up the chain. Looking back Geoffrey Canada notices the major

The lower categories were the early teens and the pre teens. The early teens were
just learning the rules whereas the pre teens couldn t go off of the sidewalk.
Geoffrey belonged to the lowest rung, the sidewalk group. As time went on he got in
many fights, sometimes with friends just to dig himself out of the bottom group. He
soon became the kid not to challenge because he learned how to fight.
The next was Stick . Their wasn t much mention of this phase in his life, but he does
mention the fact that in certain circumstances, a broken bottle or a stick can be used
in self defense when the opponent uses a weapon. The place where this would happen
is at school. The rules of the streets still applied but the problem was many different
gangs associated and congregated at his junior high. So everyone their follows
different rules, some gangs might think the use of weapons is acceptable, so
Union Ave. people have to adjust these circumstances and use a stick or a broken
bottle to defend themselves. As he grew even older he began to notice other gangs
tendencies of carrying knives. He realized that this fact changed the code of
conduct. No longer would be a good fist fighter keep you from confrontation. Even
the most unskilled fighter could win a fight and be on top if they knew how to

My initial impression of this selection was that Marvin was a very smart ten year
old. He was very also curious about the world that he lives in. 2. The genre of this
selection is science fiction. Dealing with destruction of the world that we know

day of drug overdose, according to the Penington Institute. Many people, including
President Trump, have pinpointed Mexico as a source of many of the drugs
consumed in the US. President Trump voiced his views in the speech in 2015 as he
announced his Presidential bid: They re sending people that have lots of problems,
and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re

Endo s descriptions of Indian customs from the Japanese viewpoint are evident,
through the Japanese travelers and also through the way he uses imagery to suggest
a merging of the ancient Japanese beliefs (Koshinto) with the Indian beliefs about
the Ganges and his own Christian beliefs. Koshinto lies at the core of Japanese
sensibility and forms Japanese traditional lifestyle (Mase Hasegawa 28). Each
traveler or character is searching for a greater understanding, not merely of the
motivating force behind their behavior, but of a deeper nature. In doing so, they all
find themselves in direct confrontation with their own personal desires for spiritual
rejuvenation. They embark upon journeys toward greater self understanding where
each is caught up in his own process of individuation. The river is a recurrent site
motif with ritual significance, providing an idyllic destination.
Endo gives the River Ganges different metaphorical significances which we
understand through the cases of the five tourists; it is a balm for haunting memories,
a remedy for loneliness, and a cure for feelings of emptiness and worthlessness.

Is this simply a prayer recited by many, under varying circumstances or might there
be more to these words then fits our eye? We find this prayer in Matthew 6 and

For my Elkonin boxes activity. I chose words that three or more phonemes in the
word because all of my students are at the middle school level, but struggle with
spelling and fluency. I feel as though these words may challenge them appropriately. I

Sherman Alexie s Flight
The novel Flight was a very interesting story about a young boy who seems to be
lost in life and has an identity crisis which leads him down the wrong path and
makes the poor decision to shoot up a bank. To have the boy come to the
conclusion what he was doing was wrong Sherman Alexie sends him to different
places and times to show teach him something more, almost like the Scrooge and
the many ghosts he encounters in A Christmas Carol . I will discuss a few of his
flights analyzing each flight and his journey from Zits to Michael through
emotional encounters and tough lessons. The first flight I will discuss is Zits
journey into the Indian Boy in 1876. Zits gets to experience being a young boy
who has a father and meets many famous Native American figures and he gets to
experience the Native American culture. For the first time he identifies with the
Native American s and wants to be fully Native American, but in this boy s body
Zits does not have a voice. I believe the boy not having a voice could represent that
children, generally don t have a voice. Zits never had much if any say in where his
next home would be and he certainly didn t choose to be left behind by his father.
During his flight he also witnesses a great battle, the torturing and dismantling of

This is great! When funeral homes only have to offer what they have on display, it
can be very minimal, and families may want to purchase a casket that fits what
they are looking for somewhere else, and then your funeral home loses on the sale.
Again, as mentioned before my funeral home uses a casket book to show families
what we have, there is a good selection but at the same time it is still just a handful
of what the casket company makes. Sometimes it seems that families are just
settling for a casket because that is all we have, so it would be great if we could
access the whole warehouse inventory with a click of the mouse. It was also
mentioned that with a digital casket book, funeral directors can start to make at
home funeral arrangements at time of need. This is a nice idea since sometimes it
is hard for families to make it into the funeral home; the next of kin can be too

at the University of New Hampshire. Murray claims that an author must first write
what they do not expect to write in order to find their own style and voice, the
motivation to write and the joy that comes with it. This is a problem, he says that
plagues college students, as many have not yet discovered this art which causes many
to have a distaste for writing. Murray uses his own personal experience with writing
and how he first came upon writing with surprise to demonstrate how it change his
style and gave him joy and motivation to write every day and to show how it can do
the same for students. In order to do this Murray uses ethos, pathos and logos in
order to prove his point and relates to his audience specifically. Murray uses his
experience at the university, his interactions with other professors and students and
his personal experiences throughout his journey as a writeras a solid foundation for

The Role Of Teens, And Teen Stereotypes In The Breakfast
Club
The Breakfast Club was an extraordinary film that dealt with teenagers in detention.
Although it looked like a regular movie, it had deep meanings involved with it.
The movie showcases a circle of teens who are completely different from each
other. At first they didn t interact with one another, but as the movie goes on they
begin to become close friends. The Breakfast Club does a great job at
exemplifying the dynamics of a group in society because there are so many
associations of people who interact with each other even if the interests are
completely different. The characters in the movie move from an out group to an in
group because they all felt like outsiders towards each other, but as time was going
on in detention they were starting to really like each other. They became an in
group towards the end of the movie because they made their own grouping, which
they referred to it as The Breakfast Club . When each of the students came into
detention, they each had their own identities and their own underlying issues that
no one knew about. When they started to open up and grow closer with each other,
their identities changed all together. They were beginning to show their real
personalities within each other and at the end of the film they all embraced who
they really were on the inside and who everyone else was. In every high school
film, there are always the teenage stereotypes that are seen. In The Breakfast Club,
the five students each represented the major stereotypes that people join with high
school. Claire was considered the preppy popular girl, John was considered the
bad boy, Allison was considered the weird emo girl, Andrew was considered the
school s best athlete and jock, and lastly Brian was the nerd. The crazy thing about
this was that those stereotypes didn t even match the students, those stereotypes are
what they used to hide their real identities. John wasn t the real bad boy, he was
insecure and scared. Claire didn t like being popular because she hated to agree with
everyone, she wanted to be herself but she couldn t around certain people. Brian didn
t want to be the nerd, but his parents made him become one. Brian was just as cool
and chill as the other students but he could never show
